You Don’t Need More Time, You Need a Plan | Max’s Fitness Journey as a Doctor
A busy anesthesiologist, a stubborn plateau, and a fitness plan that finally fits real life. Max Jolly reveals how he balances hospital chaos, night call, and a demanding medical career while still making strength training a nonnegotiable - and why hiring a trainer changed everything.Max opens up about the pressure-cooker reality of anesthesia, from 6 a.m. hospital starts to emergency trauma call, and how that kind of schedule forces him to be intentional with every workout. He and Devin trace the shift from self-programmed push-pull-leg splits to a more structured approach built around better form, smarter exercise selection, and staying healthy enough to keep doing the job he loves.Devin and Max also get into the reality of training while working a physically demanding medical job, the biggest misconceptions about anesthesiologists, and the often-overlooked value of keeping your body strong for the long haul. Max shares what he learned from shoulder pain, how sled pushes and pulls became a favorite, and why even small, consistent effort beats chasing perfection. If you've ever felt too busy, too inconsistent, or too unsure about what to do in the gym, this episode is a reminder that progress does not require a perfect schedule - just a smarter one. I Tried to Become an Acrobat… and It Changed My Life
What happens when you decide to chase something that feels completely out of reach?Long before D.Rob Fitness, Pilates, calisthenics, and personal training, I was fascinated by movement. As a teenager, I saw my first Cirque du Soleil show and was completely blown away. I never imagined that years later I’d actually find myself training in acrobatics and performing on stage. In this episode of Deep Dive: Behind the Brand, I take you back to that unexpected chapter of my life—from taking dance classes in college and becoming a Wichita State cheerleader, to working at a tumbling gym and eventually getting the opportunity to learn acrobatics from a professional.I’ll share how that experience reignited a passion I had almost forgotten, the acrobatic skills I learned, creating and performing my own work at Wichita State, performing at The Cotillion, and continuing to pursue acrobatics even after my original partner moved away. But this story isn’t really about becoming an acrobat. It’s about what the journey taught me.Along the way, I discovered calisthenics and Pilates, pushed myself far outside my comfort zone, learned to embrace failure, and realized that sometimes the things that seem completely out of reach are exactly the things worth pursuing. In this episode, I talk about:* The Cirque du Soleil experience that first inspired me* How dance and Wichita State cheerleading opened the door to movement* How I got started training in acrobatics* Creating and performing an original acrobatic piece* Performing at The Cotillion* How acrobatics led me toward calisthenics and Pilates* What the experience taught me about confidence, fear, and failure* Why I’ve learned to pursue things even when they seem out of reachSometimes the path you’re supposed to take isn’t the one you planned. You just have to be willing to say yes. This is Deep Dive: Behind the Brand—the stories, experiences, opportunities, failures, and lessons that helped shape D.Rob Fitness.Remember: Train Smarter.
