The inquest in to the death of Pte Geoff Gray has begun. His parents opened the evidence, telling the court Geoff loved the Army and wanted to join the RLC. Brig Coles spoke for the MoD, but failed to apologise to Mr & Mrs Gray on behalf of the Army. Geoff's first girlfriend also told of the last time she spoke to him, hours before he died. *Barry is in a cafe near court this week, hence the background noise.

Pte Geoff Gray was 17 years old when he died at Deepcut Barracks in Surrey. He had two gunshot wounds to his head. It was just days after the 9/11 attacks on New York and the UK, and its military bases were on high alert. The original inquest recorded an open verdict. His parents, Geoff and Diane Gray, have fought for more than a decade to get a second inquest and learn the truth about what happened.

The Coroner, Judge Peter Rook QC, has recorded a verdict of suicide in the inquest in to the death of Pte Sean Benton. After more than six months since the start of the inquest, the packed court room heard that Sean inflicted five gunshot wounds to his own chest, but Sean's sister Tracy has called for the police to investigate thoroughly after comments about the bullying from an NCO.

Sgt Gavaghan has given evidence to Pte Benton's inquest and answered allegations from at least 17 former trainees and staff at Deepcut in the mid-1990s. He told the coroner the camp made him behave a certain way. Among those who've also given evidence this past week have been the former OC of B Sqn, Maj Gascoigne, LCpl Terri Lewis and Lt Radford. It's been an interesting week at Woking Coroners Court.
