A loose, exploratory current runs through this set, pulling together guitar‑driven haze, electronic drift, post‑punk edges, outsider pop, chamber stillness and a few sharp archival turns. The mood shifts without fuss: ambient bloom into jangling indie shapes, dub‑touched folk into synth shimmer, noise‑bitten punk into spacious improvisation, all threaded by a sense of artists working their own corners with clarity rather than chasing a single style. It plays like a long, unhurried walk through parallel scenes — familiar textures, odd detours, and the occasional jolt — unified more by curiosity than genre. A quietly adventurous thread runs through this edition of World of Jazz, tracing how improvisers and composers adapt their music into something reflective yet forward‑leaning. Most of the selections are selected from extant releases that show where exploratory music is heading — flute‑driven improvisations, spacious rhythmic architectures, pointed small‑group dialogues and electronic inflections. The playlist also includes two earlier innovators, a specific reminder that today’s practitioners are working inside a continuum shaped by those players who expanded the language of jazz decades ago. The journey begins with the structured, cinematic layers of Miho Hazama and Jacques Kuba Séguin’s olfactory-inspired trilogy, before shifting into the vibrant Afro-Cuban and Mambo energies of Arturo Sandoval and Tumbao Bravo. Throughout the selection, the mood oscillates between the intimate, melancholic beauty of Elsa Nilsson and Norma Winstone and the rhythmic complexity of Adam Rudolph and Onilu. It culminates in a definitive nod to the avant-garde, bridging the gap between Doug MacDonald’s hard-bop tributes and the seminal, electric fusion of Miles Davis’s “Great Expectations.” PLAYLIST Miho Hazama “The Pioneer’s Quest” from Frames (Edition Records) 00:00 Arturo Sandoval “With The People” from Sangú (TM Records) 06:59 Elsa Nilsson Band Of Pulses “Mourning For Two” from Liminal (Adhyâropa Records) 09:48 Tumbao Bravo with Paul Vornhagen “Chan’s Song” from Joy of The Mambo (Global Pulse Records) 16:10 Jacques Kuba Séguin “Éphémère” from La Triologie Des Odeurs : Parfum No. 1 (Odd Sound) 21:03 Jacques Kuba Séguin “Paysage pour Muniak” from La Triologie Des Odeurs : Parfum No. 2 (Odd Sound) 23:00 Jacques Kuba Séguin “How We Start Again” from La Triologie Des Odeurs : Parfum No. 3 (Odd Sound) 33:50 Ben Wolfe “If Only” from Any Time After Now (Resident Arts Records) 40:47 Dave Douglas “Oclupaca” from Transcend (Greenleaf) 43:38 Adam Rudolph “Inception” from Sunrise (Meta Records) 48:11 Alexis Martin Ensemble “Pimbina” from Les pôles Volume 1 (Les Productions Alexis Martin Inc.) 52:38 Doug MacDonald “Captain Bacardi” from Tribute To South Central (Dmac Music) 55:57 Your Brother’s Keeper & Gary Bartz “Cauldron” from Where Rivers Meet (Brownswood Recordings) 1:00:16 Onilu “Holocene Serene” from Jakuta’s Dance (577 Records) 1:06:01 SoSaLa “Leila” from 1987 - Hajime (DooBeeDoo Records) 1:12:24 Mick Goodrick, Fred Hersch “Five Excursions” from Feebles, Fables and Ferns (ECM Records) 1:17:18 Kemuel Roig “The Peacocks” from Both Sides Now (Life In Music) 1:26:00 Norma Winstone & Steve Gray with the NDR Symphony Orchestra “A Timeless Place” from A Timeless Place (Enodoc Records) 1:35:12 Alejandro Falcón “Bolera Para Brenda” from Falcón in Blue (Dot Time Records) 1:39:41 Miles Davis “Great Expectations” ftom The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (Columbia) 1:46:37

The somewhat unhinged eclecticism of this 32 portion collection is not the product of any specific programming but instead a basic listing of what has arrived in my in-box, and has passed muster. Different Noises 137
This selection offers a deep dive into the experimental and the atmospheric, weaving together a tapestry of psych-rock, avant-garde textures, and dry wit. It is a sequence that thrives on contrast—moving from heavy, hypnotic rhythms and swampy voodoo to lo-fi charm and the minimalist beauty of contemporary compositions. The journey transitions seamlessly between moments of dense, sonic saturation and stripped-back introspection. Whether it is the gritty electronics or the intricate arrangements, the tracks are united by a shared sense of unconventional exploration with a hypnotic groove attached. It is a collection designed for focused listening, where the strange and the familiar collide in unexpected ways.
