DROPPIN DIMES
by Utah Podcast Network
With a background in both news and sports, Brittany Johnson got her start in the world of television at CBS2/KCAL9 News in Los Angeles. While working at the duopoly, Brittany worked alongside one of the nation’s most respected sports anchors and former NFL Defensive Back Jim Hill, and occasionally with seven-time NBA All-Star “Big Game James” Worthy. Brittany fell in love with the world of sports and journalism from a young age. She always knew that she wanted to play basketball and be a sports reporter. As an athlete, Brittany grew up playing basketball, volleyball and track and field. Moving here to the Beehive State, Brittany has found much success at ABC4 Utah, quickly moving up the ranks from a news producer, to a Social Media Correspondent for their Sunday night sports show Real Sports Live, to now working as a full time Reporter.

DROPPIN DIMES 041: “Utah State Has Gone Global”
We try to get to the bottom of what happen after the Utah State vs. Nevada basketball game that lead to Nevada forward Jordan Caroline punching a glass fire extinguisher case outside of the locker room and the coaching staff yelling at police officers. Of course we talk about the tensions in the Lakers locker room following draft rumors and an embarrassing loss to the Phoenix Suns. Following that loss, Snoop Dogg took to his social media to rant about how terrible the Lakers are and called for a new coach and new teammates for LeBron James. We also touched on the Ole Miss basketball players who took a knee during the national anthem and why they did it, and spoke about the NBA’s new basketball league in Africa. DROPPIN DIMES 040: “Pac-12 Networks: Love it or nah?”
This week on Droppin Dimes, we spent much of the time speaking about the Pac-12 Network. A recent report claims the network is suffering financially and not getting the biggest bang for its buck. We take a closer look at the claims made in the report. We also talk about the state of the Pac-12 Conference in general, what it would take to recruit top-of-the-line talent to Utah and more. We also speak about Washington State University, football coach: Mike Leach. Apparently, Leach is going from the sidelines to the classroom. He’ll be teaching a class titled “Insurgent Warfare and Football” at WSU. We also talk a little NBA regarding Anthony Davis’ trade request. DROPPIN DIMES 039: “Ride the Wave”
On this week’s episode of Droppin Dimes, we talk about everything from the great Utah-BYU rivalry game, to women holding notable positions in professional sports and the latest controversy surrounding NBA Center Dwight Howard. After playing from behind all three quarters, Utah made one of the best comebacks in college football history and scored four straight touchdowns in 13 minutes to win 35-27. We recapped the win and looked ahead to the Utes taking on the Washington Huskies for the Pac-12 Championship. If the Utes win the championship, they play the winner of Ohio State and Northwestern, so we discussed the possibility of playing Urban Meyer, the former Utah head coach. Plus, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice is going to be the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns? There’s a possibility that can happen. We break down the scenario and talk about the need for women involvement in some sort of official capacity within make sports. And finally, we discuss Dwight Howard’s new drama and how he’s allegedly been outted by his ex-boyfriend. While Twitter is having a field day with the news, our conversation eventually takes a more serious tone when we speak about issues still facing the LGBTQ community. DROPPIN DIMES 038: “Keep it Pushin’”
This week’s podcast has a little something for everyone. On episode 38 we cover everything from Pac-12 football, the NBA and a huge drug bust in Salt Lake City. We open up the show with that drug bust. Sascha Blume has found himself in a pickle. His landlords, which he has never met, were busted by the feds for allegedly laundering millions of dollars in drug money to fund a popular concert venue in Salt Lake City. So does Sascha continue paying rent? Will the feds seize the property he rents out? At this point it’s too early to tell, so we will continue podcasting from the trap house until we’re asked to leave! We also recapped Utah’s dominating victory over USC. During that conversation, we also discuss freshman quarterback Jack Tuttle’s decision to transfer out of Utah’s football program. And finally, we, of course, talked about the fight between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets. The fight involved Brandon Ingram, Rajon Rondo, and Chris Paul. Did you miss it? We give you play-by-play action during the podcast. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/038-droppindimes.mp3 Follow the team on social media: Twitter: @DroppinDimes_ @BJohnsonABC4 Instagram: @BrittanyReneeTV @blume_sascha

Football is back! This week on Droppin Dimes, Sascha and Brittany talk all things college football. Mainly focusing on the University of Utah Football team for the first part of the show, we recap Coach Kyle Whittingham’s first official press conference of the season, break down the 2018 schedule and talk about the future of the program under Whittingham. The conversation turns into something serious when we discuss Urban Meyer, head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. We talk about how both the program and Meyer handled domestic violence accusations surrounding the now fired assistant football coach Zach Smith. Per the usual with this podcast, we got off topic a couple of times but managed to find our way back. It’s actually pretty funny! DROPPIN DIMES 035: “Hip Hop, Athletes & Activism”
On this week’s episode of Droppin Dimes we open up the show with the following question: “Is LeBron James an activist, social media activist or social activist?” The question stems from James’ ongoing back-and-forth with President Donald Trump. We also touch on the #MeToo movement and how little it has rocked the world of sports. There have been a couple of minor events but nothing major. When the conversation moves to the PAC – 12 we end up talking about YG and his support for Utah Athletics. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/035-droppindimes.mp3 Follow the team on social media: Twitter: @DroppinDimes_ @BJohnsonABC4 Instagram: @BrittanyReneeTV @blume_sascha

DROPPIN DIMES 033: “All Hail the King”
On this week’s edition of Droppin Dimes talk about everything from the NBA Finals to the Pusha T and Drake beef. We open up the show by bringing you up to speed with hip hop’s latest beef and question whether Drake will ever respond to Pusha T’s “The Story Of Adidon” or if he will listen to J Prince and not release the alleged ‘career-ending’ diss. The conversation of course moves to the NBA Finals and the epic sweep the Golden State Warriors pulled on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Which team will LeBron James head to after his Finals defeat? Will the king stay put in Cleveland? Will LeBron team up with Paul George? Where will Kawhi Leonard sign next season? And do we really have to call Swaggy P ‘Swaggy Champ’ now? We weigh in on all that plus Dennis Rodman going to Singapore’s ahead of the summit between President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/033-droppindimes.mp3 Make sure you subscribe to the podcast and follow the team on social media: Twitter: @DroppinDimes_ @BJohnsonABC4 @Hoopninthehive Instagram: @BrittanyReneeTV @blume_sascha @hoopninthehive

On this week’s episode of Droppin Dimes we had the of finally meeting the man behind the green basketball and hat avatar on Twitter. We’re talking about none other than NBA Writer Clint Peterson. Peterson has covered the NBA and Utah Jazz for eight years so we thought it’d be fitting to bring him in and talk about the playoffs. But if you know anything about our podcast, then you know that we never stay on topic. So, in addition to NBA Playoffs, we talk mayonnaise, zombie sonics, Drake, alternative facts and fake news. DROPPIN DIMES 027: “Let the Madness Begin”
We covered a wide-range of topics on this week’s episode of Droppin Dimes. We talked March Madness, NBA Playoffs, Tiger Woods being on the cusp of winning his first PGA Tour tournament in more than 4½ years, and former UCLA quarterback and current NFL prospect Josh Rosen and his off-the-field opinions. Somehow we went from talking about Kevin Durant and how he never brushes his hair, to men going through a ‘not wanting to shower’ phase when they were kids. Then that lead to us talking about Cedric and his time in the military and what survival tactics he used during deployment. DROPPIN DIMES 025: “NBA Champion Tracy Murray & NFL prospect Tyshon Mosley!”
This week’s podcast featured an all-star lineup. NBA Champion Tracy Murray called into the show and former Utah State Aggie and NFL hopeful Tyshon Mosley stopped by as well. We started off the podcast catching up with Tracy Murray. From working with the Los Angeles Lakers as their shooting coach, to now being an announcer for UCLA, and recently accepting an on air position with ABC News in Los Angeles. After bringing us up to speed on his life, we had the champ weigh in on a plethora of topics; the NBA Trade Deadline, how he handled being traded, summer games at Pauley Pavilion, the one-and-dones, how the NBA has changed since he’s left the league, his thoughts on super teams, Tom Brady vs Michael Jordan and so much more. Oh, how could we forget to mention this … we also talked to him who would win in a one-on-one with LaVar Ball. His response to the question was hysterical. The show takes a more serious turn with Utah State Aggie Tyshon Mosley. The Offensive Guard opened up about being released from the Aggies and finishing his college career up at Portland State University. Mosley talked about how restructuring his life after hitting a low period allowed him a second chance at finishing his education and his football career at PSU. When asked how he would describe his life story thus far, he said he’d definitely call himself ‘The Comeback Kid.’ We also talked to Mosley about chasing his dreams of playing in the NFL and what it would mean to him to either be drafted or picked up during free agency. He said he’s already working on his draft day outfit, would love to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and will most likely cry when his name is called during draft day. Then, the show took a sharp turn. We somehow got on the topic of football players going pee and poop on the sidelines, football players peeing in their pants, if Mosley would ever take a butt napkin or butt pads endorsement, a Viagra endorsement and so much more. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/025-droppindimes.mp3 Follow the team on Twitter: @RealTracyMurray @TyshonMosley72 @BJohnsonABC4 @Hoopninthehive Follow the team on Instagram: @brittanyreneetv @blume_sascha @hoopninthehive @tymosley71 @realtracylmurray

DROPPIN DIMES 024: “Former Runnin’ Ute Tim Drisdom”
This week we had the pleasure of having former Utah Runnin’ Ute Timothy ‘Tim’ Drisdom on Droppin’ Dimes. If you’ve watched him play at the U, then you know he’s a great shooter. But if you happen to see him around town, don’t ever tell him ‘he was a great shooter’ because great hoopers never lose their stroke. In the time we had with Drisdom, we spent a lot of it talking about his days playing college hoops and how the program at the University of Utah has developed over the years. We also talked about the current Runnin’ Ute’s roster and how they’re struggling to find their niche. Drisdom shared his insight as to what could be the reason for the Utes losing four straight games in Pac – 12 play and about the team chemistry. We had some fun and got Drisdom’s take on Lavar Ball and the Lakers, how Kyle Kuzma being in the NBA has a positive effect on the University of Utah, AAU hoops and Utah Jazz. Drisdom has found much success in life; from playing college basketball to trying out for the Salt Lake City Stars, and now being named the Head Coach of Intermountain Christian School. On top off all that, Drisdom is the Worship Leader at The Point Church in Kearns and is Founder of the Salt Lake City Mass Choir. The father of three devotes all of his success to God. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/024-droppindimes.mp3 Stay in contact with the team here: Tim Drisdom https://www.instagram.com/ timdrisdom/ Cedric Williams [email protected] Cedric Williams https://www.instagram.com/ hoopninthehive/ Brittany Johnson https://www.instagram.com/ brittanyreneetv/

DROPPIN DIMES 023: “Who’s Next in Utah?!?”
This week on Droppin Dimes we covered a lot of ground. From the Utah Utes being the only Pac 12 team to pull off a bowl game win, to previewing the Alabama-Georgia game and how much success Utah Jazz Guard Donovan Mitchell has had thus far into the season — if it’s a hot topic in sport right now, we covered it. Cedric, Sascha and Brittany spent a lot of time trying to figure out why and how the Pac 12 went 1-8 in bowl games this season. That conversation lead to Head Coach Kyle Whittingham’s 11-1 bowl game record and what that means for the University of Utah. The NBA named Donovan Mitchell the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for December. That lead to us talking a lot about the Utah Jazz and changes they need to make to the team. We also got off topic, which is always fun, and talked Comic Con, Netflix, Metta World Peace back when he was Ron Artest and so much more. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/023-droppindimes.mp3 Make sure you listen to: @Tariktrotter https://www.youtube.com/user/MusicByTarik

DROPPIN DIMES 022: “Droppin Dimes Goes Hollywood”
If you’re a fan of the show then you know things can get a little crazy sometimes. That’s just what happened in this episode. Cedric Williams, aka the “Washed up Hooper” was back on the mic, and Wayne Thompson Jr. aka “Mr. iHeart Radio” made a special appearance. The show pretty much started out with everyone giving Wayne a tough time about his Alma Matter Utah State University. We talked about the school’s athletic program and if it gets enough respect in the state. So Aggie fans, you should give this one a listen because Wayne really goes to bat for y’all. In addition to that, we talked about the Utah-BYU rivalry, the college football early signing period, and Kyle Kuzma and Donovan Mitchell’s early success in the NBA. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/022-droppindimes.mp3 Make sure you subscribe and listen to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbv3L2nYrMY Follow Niki Ellis on Instagram: @Nikiellismusic

DROPPIN DIMES 016: “Batman Returns”
Former Utah wide receiver KENNETH SCOTT, joined Droppin Dimes for the 16th episode. It’s only fitting that we called on the former Ute to break down the big Utah – BYU rivalry game. The Utes went down to Provo and beat the Cougars 19-13. The Utes may have walked out with the W but it wasn’t pretty. Scott talked about the improvements the Utes need to make on offense, quarterback Tyler Huntley’s explosiveness and how good the team’s defense is. In addition to recapping the game, Scott gives his picks for week 3 of PAC 12 football. A topic we haven’t discussed thus far on the show is Colin Kaepernick and how the former San Francisco 49er has yet to be signed to a team. Scott offered his opinion on the matter and where he stands on players taking a stand on social justice issues. It’s been a while since we’ve talked to Scott. DROPPIN DIMES 015: “Don’t 50 Cent It”
On this week’s episode of Droppin Dimes we covered a lot of ground. Sascha Blume and Brittany Johnson weighed in on the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor aftermath (shout out to all the people that put up live streams on Twitter so Brittany could watch for free), the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics trade update and Tropical Storm Harvey affecting local sports teams and their families. We also caught up with Kraig Williams, Communications manager of the Salt Lake Bees. The Bees are on the brink of making it to the playoffs for the first time since 2013 so Williams stopped by to talk about the team’s chances of getting in. We also discuss the team’s relationship with the Los Angeles Angels and what it’s like for guys trying to make it into the major league. Somehow we also got into the topic of Brittany throwing out the first pitch at one of the games, but Kraig said she can’t “50 Cent it” (click here to see 50 Cent bomb the first pitch he threw out). The Bees also have great activities scheduled for the kids for the rest of the regular season. DROPPIN DIMES 012: “Life After Football”
It’s no secret that the University of Utah has produced some stellar athletes through their football program over the years. For this episode of Droppin Dimes, two of them joined the show to discuss what they’ve been up to since their playing days at the U. Both Jesse Boone and Matt Martinez continue to find success off the field these days. Boone graduated in 2005 with an undergraduate degree in economics and business management in addition to his Masters degree in business administration. After finding eight years of success as a professional football player with the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders, Rhein Fire of NFL Europe and the Las Vegas Locos of UFL, Boone is now a Broker and the Owner of Redzone Real Estate, specializing in residential rental investing. Martinez graduated from the U in 2012 with a double major in economics and sociology and a criminal background minor. While playing football at the U, Martinez served as Team Captain, he also made the All-Academic Pac 12/Mountain West Team, and was the winner of six bowl games, including the Sugar Bowl. Boone and Martinez know football doesn’t last forever – that’s why they have made it their mission to prepare the current players at the University of Utah for life after football by establishing Ute Athlete Connect, which helps athletes transition into the workforce. During the podcast we also talked about their other foundations, what it’s really like playing in the NFL, and previewed the upcoming football season at the U. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/012-droppindimes.mp3 Foundations and charitable giving: Ute Athlete Connect Athletes Stronger Together Boone Brothers Charity Football Camp Ron Mcbride Foundation

Real Salt Lake fans can probably name every player on the team and more than likely follow the club on all social media platforms. From running the cameras and capturing the big plays, fan moments, and more, Gibbons is the driving force behind Real Salt Lake’s digital content. He joined Droppin Dimes to give us the play-by-play on how things work behind the scenes at RSL. During the podcast Gibbons previews the club’s big exhibition match against Manchester United, gives insight into covering the NBA, his take on super teams and talks a little hip-hop. DROPPIN DIMES 008: “You Can’t Outrun Your Fork”
How do you balance being the top Utah Jazz Writer for the Deseret News and being a Health Coach? It’s not easy but someone has got to do it. That someone is Jody Genessy or as most of you might know him from Twitter, DJJazzyJody. Jody is up to much more nowadays than just keeping Utahns informed about their beloved Jazz. The once 373.3 pounds Jody, has lost 161 pounds and is now going by Jody 2.0 (I made that up earlier…you’re welcome Jody). He joined Droppin Dimes to talk about his life-changing journey. This podcast is not meant to be a diet infomercial, but rather a platform for someone to share their success and hopefully it will change someone’s life. Going from needing a “more to love seatbelt” (seatbelt extender) on the plane, to being able to enjoy a simple rollercoaster ride with his 4 children and wife at Lagoon, Jody opens up about when and why he made the decision to transform his life. Is Gordon Hayward staying or leaving? Can the Jazz be the next superstar team? What’s is like covering the Jazz? We end the podcast discussing the NBA with Jody. DROPPIN DIMES 007: “Are The NBA Finals Over-Hyped?”
The NBA Finals is in full swing and I think it’s safe to say – no one saw this coming – I mean, did you really think the Cleveland Cavaliers would have this tough of a time against the Golden State Warriors? Ben Dowsett, Deputy Editor, Basketball Insiders, joined Episode seven of Droppin Dimes to discuss just that – how tough it’s been for LeBron James and his guys to stop the Warriors. Ben dropped his take on how the series has played out thus far, how great and effective Kevin Durant looks, the style of play in which the Cavs are most effective against the Warriors and he also gives his prediction on who will win the chip this year For this episode we also revisited the topic of NBA players “resting” and the amount of back-to-backs these guys have to play. One thing that many fans haven’t factored in is how the arena availability affects all of this. Confused? Listen to the podcast and read Ben’s article. Jazz fans, we didn’t leave you out. We of course talked about the future of Hayward, George Hill, Boris Diaw and Derrick Favors. W also entertain the idea that the Jazz are on their way to being the next super team. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/007-droppindimes.mp3

DROPPIN DIMES 006: “The Goon Life”
A familiar face dropped by the show for episode six – Kyle Goon, Sports Writer for the Salt Lake Tribune. Goon, who covers multiple sports at the University of Utah, brings you up to speed on the baseball, softball and basketball teams. He talks about the baseball team rallying together for their injured teammate DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and coming out with an 11-10 victory over Arizona State, Keirsey’s future after he ran into the outfield wall and collapsed, dislocating and fracturing his left hip, how the Utes softball team has come a long way, and what the future holds for the Runnin’ Utes. During the show, Goon opens up about what made him want to become a sports writer and how stellar of an athlete he was growing up (just kidding – according to Goon he wasn’t that good at sports growing up). We also discuss the NBA, what it takes to be a good analyst, and parents like Lavar Ball. http://lennondesignllc.com/wp-content/audio/droppin-dimes/006-droppindimes.mp3 Follow everyone on Twitter or Instagram:   @kylegoon IG @blume_sascha @BJohnsonABC4

DROPPIN DIMES 004: “The Stat King: Andy Larsen”
Who is the best player in the NBA? Should college athletes get paid? Will Gordon Stayward or will he chunk up the deuces? Those are just some of the topics discussed in this week’s episode of Droppin Dimes. Andy Larsen, Utah Jazz Beat Writer for KSL.Com, joined the show to wrap up the Jazz season and give his perspective on the direction the team will go during the offseason. From the NBA Lottery, free agency and trades, Larsen weighs in on the headlines dominating the Salt Lake Valley right now. Milos Teodosic—heard of him?
