DrumQuig Podcast Episode 25 featuring Sean Crowley of Big Sky

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 25 featuring Sean Crowley of Big Sky! Guys. Once again, this was an absolute blast to do.I was introduced to Big Sky while attending a recent Bill Murray and his Blood Brothers concert. Yes that Bill Murray. And yes he does sing and dance and it was magical. But it was the band that opened that caught my eye and I'm so glad to bring you this episode with Sean.We talked about all things music, including his influences and I just so happened to have that man's vinyl sitting behind me (gotta watch the episode to find out) , how he feels about everyone from Ringo to John Bonham and so much more.In this episode, we sparked a debate from an idea that Dad and I had earlier this week in that, should a band still be marketed as the band if they only have one sole founding member left? Obviously this is for curiosity purposes but it led us right into the highly contested "Rush" conversations that have been going on these past few months. Sean was a fantastic guest who's beard game was only rivaled by his calm demeanor and great conversation. As mentioned in the show, please head on over to Stay Tuned Records Online Shop Link https://staytunedrecordsfl.myshopify.com/ Snag a record or two to help them during this tough time. I myself after posting snagged another Dream Theater album to add to my collection and the ORIGINAL Batman soundtrack because, well Batman! I will add the disclaimer because I'm sure someone will ask it. Stay Tuned does not sponsor nor did they pay for me to do this. I truly did this and put them up on this platform to support local and to support local music. It's as simple as that. Want to design your own custom jersey? DrumQuig Podcast Episode 24 featuring Mike Garrie of Antelope and Deadset Florida!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 24 featuring Mike Garrie of Antelope and Deadset Florida!Right off the bat, we were laughing in this one so you know we had a blast.Mike and I talk about so much in this one, starting with finding out we only live about a mile away from each other to the first time I met Mike and all the times I've run into him since. We discussed where it all started from him, happenstance run-ins and reunions, what is considered a "classic" (Spoiler: It's a car). All in all, a truly fun time was had. What makes this episode more fun is that we discussed Dave Weckl by chance and a week after we filmed this, we both got to see him play a pop-up show nearby a couple days before his Masterclass. (See our Instagram for some shots from that)In the area and want to see Mike play? Check out https://www.deadsetfl.com/ for all upcoming shows and @deadsetflorida on IG. DrumQuig Podcast Episode 23 featuring Yogi Watts of Demon Hunter!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 23 featuring Yogi Watts of Demon Hunter! It's not every day that you get the chance to sit down, well virtually anyways, with a drummer you have admired for almost 20 years yet here we are. First and foremost, Yogi and I have talked about this for YEARS and it has never come to fruition and to be honest, I'm glad it didn't until now. It was the perfect timing for sure. Yogi, while sitting at his daughters softball practice mind you, gives us a deep dive into how he got into Demon Hunter, his life before and what it has afforded him, his influences and how much his faith and beliefs mean to him. We discussed his thoughts on being in the band for 20 years for a band that's been around for 22 and his thoughts on how far they have come together. We talk about missed opportunities and what's to come for Demon Hunter moving forward. Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 22 featuring the amazing Bill Sanders of MiniM! Guys, I say it every single time but this was such a fun episode! Right from the get go, we give a shout-out to the place where I was introduced to MiniM and how that has just exploded since then.Billy and I talk about life, family, years without drumming, grief, and how all of these things impacted his musical and self-journey to where it is today. Our talks span how the band got started, how it's grown and the stages/venues that were once a dream that they have been able to play at. It truly was a blast to have him on the show and he even issued a challenge to get some more local guys on the show and we hear you loud and clear! If you're in the greater Tampa Bay Area, be sure to catch MiniM and a TON of other bands playing at Gasparilla Music Festival Sunday April 12th! In this episode, we are joined once again by a super awesome guy, who not only is a drummer himself but an incredible artist, Joe Beausoleil of Flooded Studios and Jerseys for Drummers , marking his second appearance on the show!Joe was gracious enough to come back on the show and we wasted no time getting right into it. We talked about how Joe's very own Jerseys made for the one and only Carter Beauford himself found their way into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and how surreal of a moment that was for him. We talked about life, making jerseys for both of Dream Theater's drummers at this point, with him adding Portnoy to the list, and so much more. DrumQuig Podcast Episode 20 featuring Dopapod and Photon drummer, Neal "Fro" Evans!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 20!Today's guest should be a familiar face to some as he was behind the kit with Dopapod for many years and recently Photon. Please welcome Neal "Fro" Evans! Right off the bat I will say there is something to getting to experience someone's live performance in person and a few weeks later get them to come on the podcast. Truly amazing.Evans and I wasted no time learning about his backstory, the where and how of his drumming and where that journey has brought him to today. One of the funniest bits of the show was featured in one of our reels where Evans talks about the meaning behind some of the songs he plays, particularly Mouse Hunt! Fun times were had, discussing everything from Pianos to Piccolos and everything in between. We got to discuss Fro's involvement with Rally Around The Family Band which was too good not to pass up given their Rage Against The Machine Covers as well as other tribute bands for RadioHead and Black Sabbath that played at that event.Disclaimer: To our regular viewers/past/future guests, politics are generally never a topic we broach in the show for a plethora of reasons. However, when they are directly related to a facet of our guest, it was impossible not to discuss. We hope you enjoy the show as much as we did! DrumQuig Podcast Episode 19 featuring Steel Pan Player Extraordinaire, Aaron Cote!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 19!Another INCREDIBLE guest joins the show this time around and it's the first appearance of a steel pan/drum (we debate this during the show) performer in the history of the DrumQuig Podcast in Aaron Cote.Right out of the gate, I was hooked on Aarons abilities and explanations. He tells us all about his journey of how he became a steel pan player and how that brought him to where he is today. This episode is all about learning about steel pans and hearing some amazing cruise ship tales, especially one where someone (we won't say who) was left on the island. Aaron just brings a PASSION to the music and it was such a pleasure to have him as a guest.Links:Where to find the shirt: https://www.jordanmorrisonmusic.com/Where to purchase Steel Pans and support music https://mittcott.com/Want to design your own custom jersey? DrumQuig Podcast Episode 18 featuring Scotty from Drummer POV and Raised On Candy!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 18!PREFACE: This was such a FUN episode to have and I'm thankful for our guest Scotty aka Drummer POV on Instagram! As I stated before, Scotty and I had a blast with this one. I jokingly said he was the first person to ever reach out to us to be on the show but I truly am thankful that he did and that we were able to make this happen. In this episode, we discussed how Drummer POV came to life, some 40+ years ago and how it has evolved into what it is today. We discussed musicians as a whole, how important Drum Techs are to the music world, custom art pieces, and so much more. We got to talk what music means to us, who the influeneces were and Scotty even shared some amazing stories from his time working in a music store ... in the big apple itself, NYC.A further note: Our passion for this show goes well beyond creating a video podcast. Sometimes it's about informing the masses about how to keep music alive. In this episode, we rely once again on our friendship with the incredible music store M.A.E in South Florida and how important they are not only to their community, but future musicians and music as we know it.Want to design your own custom jersey? DrumQuig Podcast Episode 17 featuring Rob Houk from Aqueous and Tand!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 17!In this episode, I try not to go complete fanboy as our guest is none other than Rob Houk, former drummer for Aqueous and Tand! This one goes deep my friends. To many of you that know me, I covered MMA for the better part of 16 years and interviewed countless fighters. I would strive hard to come up with unique questions or different ways to approach the interview and treat it more like a conversation rather than an interrogation. I say all of this because just minutes before the show started, Rob hit me with the bombshell that made me add "former" to the front of Aqueous. And in those mere moments before hitting record, the interviewer in me truly shined. I really hope you enjoy this one, I sure as heck did.Rob and I discussed all things drums, of course. The origin of his playing, the bands that got him to today and we finally got to the bottom of why there were only six episodes of "Drumsticks and Flats", his brief podcast where he would try out various spots in Buffalo and talk about you guessed it, chicken wings. https://youtu.be/4SiHh2RCBYs?si=nb1q8PKLHsbgOhbpI can't thank Rob enough for this episode. His laid back demeaner, the cigar, and really his overall character really made this episode fly by so much so that we ended up talking well, WELL after the episode had concluded. We appreciate all of your support as this is the last episode of 2025. It's been a journey, an adventure but most importantly, an honor to have you watch these episodes of anywhere from 2-3 musicians just have fun talking about what we love and why we do it.2026 promises to have guests big and small, from the local band down the street to the award winning bands you know and love (or haven't yet but will). DrumQuig Podcast Episode 16 featuring The Heavy Pets drummer, Jamie Newitt!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 16! In this episode, we have a very special guest, a man of many talents and is in at LEAST three different bands, the one and only Jamie Newitt! It's always fun to connect with a drummer during the first time you see a live performance. The way the grooves play out, the feeling of funk and just the overall energy. It was all of these traits that brought me to make sure Jamie was a guest on the show and we were happy to have him! Jamie and I talked about his passion for music growing up, what got him started on the drums and what a big impact The Heavy Pets have had on his life, being with the band 16 of the 20 years they have been around. The shows in Miami and St Petersburg this month are must-see and I HIGHLY recommend. There are even a few surprises that Jamie may or may not have shared during the show. This was so much fun and I had an absolute blast. Thanks Jamie and see you December 20th! DrumQuig Podcast Episode 15 featuring Janne Mieskonen of Royal Sorrow!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 15! In this episode, we branched beyond the US to bring you our first international guest and drummer for Royal Sorrow, Janne Mieskonen! This was a super fun episode to plan and film given the seven, yes seven, hour time difference between myself and Janne but we made it work. We got right to how exciting it has been for his band Royal Sorrow and their first album release coming up on September 26th, available in VINYL, which looks incredible by the way. Janne and I talked about his inspiration, how long he's been drumming, how he found his current bandmates, and what this journey has been like leaking up to the debut album release and subsequent tour with Leprous later this year. We talked music, Dream Theater, Metallica and what band would be his dream band to tour with. This was so much fun and Janne was such a solid individual and I had a blast speaking with him. We hope you enjoy! During the episode, I did make it a point to shout out an amazing family owned music store in South Florida called MAE - Music Artis Enterprises LLC. Scott and his family were INCREDIBLY accommodating during my visit to see Dream Theater in Orlando earlier this month and you may be seeing more between us and them. Stay tuned! Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 14 featuring Andrew Holzbaur of Impending Doom, BoneCrown, and Emerald The Band! Andrew and I have been talking about this for a LONG time and I'm so glad we were able to make this happen! This episode jumps right into Impending Doom announcing the same day a new album is in the work for the first time in 7 years! We discussed what brought him to metal, the various bands he played in and how he ended up with Impending Doom! I loved hearing Andrew's journey and just the fun stories he was able to bring to this episode, including life on the road and how UPS gave him a path he didn't even know was there. I'm putting links to all of Andrew's projects mentioned in the episode as well as the UPS video I referred to that got quite a reaction. DrumQuig Podcast Episode 13 featuring metal drumming legend, Derek Roddy!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 13! We are back from almost a YEAR LONG hiatus and back better than ever! For this episode, we reached back into the archives to find someone we've been wanting to talk to for many, MANY years and finally just asked and got a resounding "Sure!". That person? None other than Derek Roddy! Dad and I met Derek 15 years ago at a local music store, Seminole Music. At that time I had never seen anything like his drumming in person and was astounded by his talents. This episode showcased so much more.Roddy talks about being "honest" in music, how musicians have ruined music and a myriad of topics that really make you take a moment to reflect on his opinions. We covered the Dream Theater auditions (fitting given the recent touring and Portnoy being back in the band) and how Roddy felt Portnoy leaving was all part of a genius plan that as you can see, has worked out marvelously. We talked metal, life, snakes (briefly), and how mistakes are okay when it comes to tracking music. It's part of the process. It was truly an honor to get to spend over an hour talking with a man with such insights and opinions that you don't generally hear. Fun fact: Yes the intro is Derek playing from the episode and no I didn't know I was going to use it until watching it back. It just seemed to fit so well.Enjoy! DrumQuig Podcast Episode 12 featuring Jay DePool!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 12! In this episode, you'll immediately notice that Troy is with us and we, without coordination, both wore our newly acquired DrumQuig Podcast Jerseys from Jersey's for Drummers! Now to our guest, the one and only Jay DePool. Jay is unlike any other guest we have had on the show and brought such a unique perspective to life, music and social media presence. The amount of topics we covered in this episode is mind-blowing. We discussed everything from older music, social media and micro influencers, family lineage and who they played with, drum companies and so much more. We understand that Jay's perspective is not what you're used to hearing. That's okay. We here on the DrumQuig Podcast are all about having those with their own opinions to share on the show because that's how we all get along. We had a blast talking with Jay and getting a different perspective on drums, life and making people happy before yourself. Find Jay everywhere a platform exists. @JayDePool Enjoy! DrumQuig Podcast Episode 11 Featuring Joe from Jerseys For Drummers!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 11! In this episode, we are joined by a super awesome guy, who not only is a drummer himself but an incredible artist, Joe Beausoleil of Flooded Studios and Jerseys for Drummers! We here on the DrumQuig Podcast are huge believers in supporting small business and this episode talks a LOT about that, starting with the amazing jersey created specifically for the DrumQuig Podcast! This episode was just absolutely great. I had discovered Joe a few months back and he followed the page and the rest is history. We talk about his background in music, discuss a painful high school memory hardware malfunction (see the video here and don't worry, Joe sent it to us to it's okay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdFqUF9Q0Tc). Joe continues with the backstory of making jerseys and how he got to where he is today. If you take nothing else away from this episode, remember that nothing should stand in the way of trying to make your dreams come true. Just look at what Joe has been able to accomplish using his background and passion for music. Joe really brought his A-game to this episode and brought an amazing looking Red Ale from Norse Brewing which if available, I will be attempting to find stateside and try. Joe tells his story about seeing Dave Matthews for the first time, how he got connected with Carter Beauford and ended up designing for him, as well as the many drummers that now wear custom jerseys that if I may say so, are incredibly comfortable and don't restrict any movement whatsoever. It's really a fun episode where you see two drummers having the best time and talking about what drives us and how we got to where we are today. I really hope you guys enjoy this one! Every Sunday at 8pm EST Joe's show featuring local craft beer where they review the beer and open card packs. Check that out  @ImperialPulls  Want to design your own custom jersey? DrumQuig Podcast Episode 10 featuring friend of the show, Jordan Jensen!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 10! In this episode, we are joined by an absolutely incredible drummer and decade long friend of the show, Jordan Jensen! We waste no time jamming out to our intro song, finding out why drums, life as a father, metal, inspirations and just plain old good times. One of the best parts of this episode? Finding out we were at the same drum clinic at the same time almost 16 years old. It was absolutely insane. You'll need to watch the show to figure out who it was. Jordan discusses some of the many bands he's played with including Dark Sermon, Otis Archer, new project Casket (music to be released soon), and of course Don Denham and the Cut Offs. We talked about drum clinics at Seminole Music, when his son picked up his first drumstick, his inspirations and mentors, and the Ice Cream Factory. Enjoy! Alex and I waste no time in the episode starting quite literally from the first second jamming out to our intro song. DrumQuig Podcast Episode 8 featuring Glenn Quiggins!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 8! In this episode, we are joined by a fantastic guest who bears no relation to us (or so we know), Mr. Glenn Quiggins! First and foremost, due to scheduling availability, the show will continue with just one Quiggins for the next few episodes until that is sorted out. But as they say, the show must go on! First and foremost, the announcement has finally come. The DrumQuig Podcast is now a PROUD member of the Geek Network Podcast Syndicate! Watch the episode to find out more! This was an incredible episode. Glenn and I had connected a while back in a group that was made up , well you guessed it, people with the last name Quiggins. As I state in the show, we are not related to Glenn but by the end of this episode, I think that may not be entirely true. Glenn talks about his life growing up, the instruments he played, how he came to finally play drums, God's Rock and Roll Army talk and so much more when it came to music. The man has played all over and even has a band with another Quiggins, cousin Jim, called Sweet FA. What an emotional roller coaster following Glenn's story and how he's not just a musician but a huge history buff. Glenn talks about Kentucky history and how the Quiggins Site located on his ranch confirmed information that changed the history books, literally. Glenn talks about treasure hunting and various trips he has been on and what the coolest thing he ever found during a dive was. Glenn also discusses his upcoming project with the History Channel regarding a family heirloom passed down with a riddle that provided the location of the John Swift Silver Mines. A Quiggins that is also multi-talented? We don't know anyone like that on this show. Finally the penultimate question was asked: What are the best nicknames that you've been given and what has stuck? Glenn's a musician, history buff, treasure hunter, potential relative and now , a true friend of the show. Find him on Youtube, Spotify and wherever you get your music nowadays! DrumQuig Podcast Episode 7: Kentucky Derby Edition

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 7: Kentucky Derby Edition! But wait. No guest? That's right! Part of the idea behind starting this show wasn't always having a guest. It was a continuance of the conversations that we were having on a daily basis anyways. Whether it was current events, drumming videos, or in this case, some sad news about Sam Ash Music Stores. #RIPSamAsh. This episode features our opinions on certain bands trying to be secretive and clever regarding their new drummer, how Dad feels about the Kentucky Derby (today) , whether or not this is Dream Theater's last hurrah and our memories of Sam Ash and what it means for musicians going forward. Tell us what you think. Do you like the one-on-one's like this? Any guests/topics you'd like to see on the show? Let us know! We appreciate any and all feedback. Our intro song "All Blues" can be found on David Northrup's cd "Shapes" ,available on all downloadable platforms. Want a physical copy? DrumQuig Podcast Episode 6 featuring David Northrup!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 6! In this episode, we are joined by a fantastic guest and someone we have been wanting to speak with for some time, David Northrup!! First and foremost, who's a fan of the new intro? I know our guest is. For those unfamiliar with David, his body of work includes working with Wynonna Judd, Travis Tritt (2000-2009), Joe Diffie, Doug Stone, Tanya Tucker, Lila McCann, Jo De Messina, Jo-El Sonnier, Pam Tillis, Ty Herndon, Lee Greenwood, Connie Smith, Gene Watson, Deborah Allen, Louise Mandrel, Rock Legend John Waite, The James Brown Horns, John Mellencamp, Guitarist Les Dudek, Jam Band Sensation The Disco Biscuits, and the Oak Ridge Boys, just to name a few. This once again was an absolutely fantastic show! As you can see, Dad's back and we aren't slowing down. David talks about why he became a drummer, his journey around the country and upbringing, his faith and how it plays a part in his life, and what life can be like as a studio drummer. David gives us the "tell-all" and talks about his time on the road, his family, a fun concert story you won't want to miss and so much more in this jam-packed episode that we didn't want to stop. David will most definitely be a returning guest. Our new intro song "All Blues" can be found on David's cd "Shapes" , available on all downloadable platforms. Want a physical copy? DrumQuig Episode 5 featuring Paul Christiansen!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 5! In this episode, we are joined by an amazing guest, ANOTHER one of the first followers that we got on the podcast, Paul Christiansen!   First and foremost, many of you will notice it was just Matt this episode and that was due to scheduling conflicts and we didn't want to make you guys wait any longer for this amazing episode! We start the conversation once again with the penultimate question. Why Drums? Paul's answer is really a testament to how you feel you can be on one path and end up taking a different one entirely. We have to say, we had a blast just going down who influences Paul as a drummer, how he's been a drum teacher for YEARS and what that means to him as well as discussing his various bands over the years, including his current project, Pathos and Logos. Shout out to Tales Of A Concert Junkie for just outright making amazing merch that was featured once again on the show tonight. DrumQuig Podcast Episode 4 featuring Steve Colucci!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 4! In this episode, we are joined by an amazing guest, one of the first followers that we got on the podcast, Steve Colucci! First and foremost, we talk about "why the drums"? . Colucci takes us through bashing on pots and pans and chairs and making his way to a drum set and his first drumming influences and how that has shaped who he is today. This episode is a perfect embodiment of what we are trying to accomplish on the show. We invited Steve on because of his support and to expand our community not because he was a famous drummer or an influencer. And throughout this episode, the latter may not be true. Steve's stories start anywhere from motivating others, chops and grooves, and even a most fascinating story about a drummer you may know in Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett! This is a story that had Matt speechless and if you've watched the show, you'd see that doesn't come often! Shout out to Tales Of A Concert Junkie for just outright making amazing merch that was featured once again on the show tonight. DrumQuig Podcast Episode 3 featuring Dylan Dekker!

In this episode, we are joined by a guest that both Dad and I had stumbled across on Instagram in the past few months, in Dylan Dekker. Dekker’s unique style and talent really stuck out to us both and we were so happy to get him on the show with us.

DrumQuig Podcast Episode 2 featuring Rush Tribute Band Drummer, Ffej!

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 2! In this episode, we are joined by a very special guest, the drummer from Solar Federation, a Rush Tribute band, Jeff Herb! We dive right into the impact that  the one, the only, the professor, Neil Peart of Rush had on all of our lives and how Jeff (referred to as Ffej as that is his stage name since childhood) started this amazing tribute.  We dive into the life of a tribute band drummer, what Rush meant to him and how he has carried this torch for the past ten years and hopefully many many more. Ffej really brought a fun energy to our episode tonight and we had a blast talking to him.  We introduced our first appearance of a question we will be asking every single one of our guests but you'll have to watch/listen to find out what it is and what Ffej had to say about it. As mentioned in the episode, you can catch Solar Federation playing March 9 at Halftime Sports Bar and Music in Newark Delaware and March 23 at Mickey's Black Box in Lititz, PA for Ffej's 50th birthday bonanza. Special shout-out to co-host Troy as it is his birthday this week and we want to make sure that he rings in 60 with style. Happy Birthday Dad!  Shout out to Tales Of A Concert Junkie for just outright making amazing merch that was featured once again on the show tonight.

DrumQuig Podcast Episode 1 featuring Chris Foster : A Tribute To The Professor, Neil Peart

Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast! Co-Hosts and Father-Son Duo Matt and Troy Quiggins will be back each episode to bring you another discussion regarding the impact that music has had on our lives. In this episode, friend of the show and friend to Troy and Matt for the last 10 years joins us to talk about the 4th anniversary of the passing of the legend, the one, the only, the professor, Neil Peart of Rush. We dive in with backgrounds on how music impacted each of our lives and how we all ended up playing drums. We discuss what Rush meant to us and the first time each of us experienced the wonder that was, whether it was vinyl, cd or live. We even ended with our top 5 most influential drummers, even though most of us (all) couldn't limit it to just 5. This show is really about us taking our daily conversation and turning it into a bi-weekly show that hopefully you all will enjoy! Shout out to Tales Of A Concert Junkie for just outright making amazing merch that was featured on the show tonight by Matt.
