On this edition of Century: The Math of Fentanyl. Host Doug McVay is joined in conversation by Morgan Godvin, a researcher, writer, harm reduction advocate, and co-author an article entitled \"Estimating the daily milligrams of morphine equivalent of illicit fentanyl use in Los Angeles: Clinical and epidemiological implications,\" which was published in the August 2026 edition of the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence. They spoke at the eighty-eighth annual meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, which took place June 13 through 17 in Portland, Oregon. Plus, the Joint United Nations Programme against HIV/AIDS has released a new report which shows that a combination of factors is threatening to reverse years of gains in the AIDS response. Angeli Achrekar, Assistant Secretary-General of UNAIDS, discussed the report at a news conference June 12.

An amended version of House Bill 5350, An Act Concerning Cannabis, Hemp and Infused Beverage Regulation, was approved by the Connecticut House of Representatives on April 20 in a roll call vote of 83 to 61, after more than three hours of sometimes contentious debate. This week on Century of Lies we hear portions of that debate including interventions by CT State Reps. Roland Lemar and David Rutigliano.
