7 POPULAR FRENCH IDIOMS
In today’s episode, we will learn 10 popular French idioms. Connect with me: https://wa.me/message/G4EXB23HGD2CO1. What are idioms? 1. Ça marche Literal translation: it walks. Figurative translation: 'it functions', but also 'got it' or 'okay' Être dans la lune Literal translation: to be in the moon Figurative translation: to daydream, to pay zero attention. This is easy to guess, right? Sometimes, French also use this for the same meaning: être tête en l'air - which literally means 'head in the air,' but actually means 'to be distracted'. Est-ce que tu as compris ce que je viens de te dire? Y: Quoi? Désolée, j'étais dans la lune. X: Do you understand what I just told you? Y: What? Sorry, I was daydreaming. 3.Ça coûte un bras Literal translation: It costs an arm. Figurative translation: It's super expensive. I know, there's an identical idiom in English - It costs an arm and a leg. Who copied whom? Ex. ça coûte les yeux de la tête (it costs the eyes in the head) This car was extremely expensive. 4. Faire la grasse matinée Literal translation: to do a fat morning. Figurative translation: to stay in bed until late in the morning. Chaque samedi, j'aime bien faire la grasse matinée. Every Saturday, I like staying in bed until late. 5. Coup de foudre Literal translation: a lightning strike. Figurative translation: to fall madly in love at first sight. Did you guess it right? Use it if you feel like you've been hit by a lighting bolt when you see someone for the first time. If it's only a 'moderate' love at first sight, this is what you use: coup de coeur. C'était un coup de foudre entre lui et moi. We fell madly in love at first sight, him and me. 6. Être sage comme une image Literal translation: to be reasonable like an image. Figurative translation: it's usually used to define kids who are very calm. Les enfants que je garde sont sages comme des images. C'est un travail facile et je suis très content. The kids I babysit are very calm. It's an easy job, and I'm so glad. 7. Boire comme un trou Literal translation: to drink like a hole. Figurative translation: well, you can guess, I think (hint: the picture of Kermit above). Vous devrez le conduire chez lui, il boit comme un trou. You'll have to drive him home; he's drinking heavily.

LET’S LOOK AT FRENCH REFLECTIVE VERB
Glad to have you here today! Reflexive verbs in French are verbs which mean an action done to oneself, for example, laver means 'to wash', but se laver means 'to get washed' or literally ‘to wash oneself’. That's why in the infinitive form the verb has se in front of it and this needs to change as we talk about other people doing the action just as in English – he has a wash/he washes himself or we are having a wash/we wash ourselves. How to form a sentence using a reflexive verb Reflexive verbs follow the normal formation patterns and many are regular -er verbs. They just have an extra pronoun. Remember that me, te, se become m', t', s' before a vowel or silent -h: *s’appeller je m'appelle tu t'appelles il/elle/on s'appelle nous nous appelons vous vous appelez ils/elles s'appellent

Number 60 to 100 in french
In this episode, we will continue learning numbers in french. Let’s take it a step further as we learn number 60-100. Soixante et un, soixante-deux, soixante-trois, soixante-quatre, soixante-cinq, soixante-six, Soixante-sept, soixante-huit, soixante-neuf - 70 – soixante-dix 71 – soixante-onze 72 – soixante-douze 73 – soixante-treize 74 – soixante-quatorze 75 – soixante-quinze 76 – soixante-seize 77 – soixante-dix-sept 78 – soixante-dix-huit 79 – soixante-dix-neuf (which is literally 60 + 19) With the numbers in the 80s, quatre-vingt is used which is like saying 4 twenties (in old English Four score was used instead of eighty thanks to this French influence) 80 – quatre-vingts (notice vingts ends in an S) 81 – quatre-vingt-un (notice vingt does not end in an S) 82 – quatre-vingt-deux 83 – quatre-vingt-trois 84 – quatre-vingt-quatre 85 – quatre-vingt-cinq 86 – quatre-vingt-six 87 – quatre-vingt-sept 88 – quatre-vingt-huit 89 – quatre-vingt-neuf The number 90 in French is quatre-vingt-dix. You will notice that it is a combination of quatre-vingt (80) + dix (10) The rest of the numbers in the 90s follow the same pattern of 80 + a number from 10-19. 90 – quatre-vingt-dix 91 – quatre-vingt-onze 92 – quatre-vingt-douze 93 – quatre-vingt-treize 94 – quatre-vingt-quatorze 95 – quatre-vingt-quinze 96 – quatre-vingt-seize 97 – quatre-vingt-dix-sept 98 – quatre-vingt-dix-huit 99 – quatre-vingt-dix-neuf (which is literally 4 x 20 + 19)-Cent
