Wuthering Heights (2026) w/ Brian Hicks

It's finally time... The podcast is discussing another 2026 release with the highly controversial "Wuthering Heights" directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacobi Elordi that came out on Valentine's Day. Sound bite from the episode: "So that was a thing we watched..." In this episode the podcast welcomes back returning guest, Dr. Brian Hicks who specializes in Bronte literature. Brian and Stephanie give their uncensored review of the film and discuss how much it differs from the book, the parts that were uncomfortable and made no sense, as well as what they would like to see in a Wuthering Heights film. Brian also pitches at least three different film concepts. Beware of book and film spoilers and enjoy hearing two people rant after just watching the film a few hours before recording! Miss Austen

In today's episode Stephanie looks at MISS AUSTEN which aired on PBS in May. The 4 episode mini-series is based on Gill Hornby's novel, "Miss Austen," which follows Cassandra Austen (Jane Austen's sister) in 1840 as she searches for the letters Jane wrote to her friends and family. In history, Cassandra Austen is known for burning the majority of Jane's correspondence and it has been a mystery why ever since. Hornby creates a narrative that answers why she did this, and gets audiences to learn and appreciate Cassandra in the process. The Artful Dodger w/ Drea Mayer

Welcome back to the podcast Drea Mayer in today's conversation about the Hulu TV show "The Artful Dodger," which just announced a second season is coming and will start filming in Australia in 2025! (If only Stephanie and Drea knew about that before this episode was filmed; spoiler alert, they're excited!) "The Artful Dodger" takes place about 15 years after Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist (but you don't need to know the novel to appreciate this show). It follows Jack Dawkins aka the Artful Dodger (played by Thomas Brodie Sangster) in the 1850s in Australia as he works as a surgeon. He is reunited with Fagan (David Thewlis) who shows up as a prisoner while also navigating a relationship with Lady Belle (Maia Mitchell), the mayor's daughter who wants a career in medicine. Between gore, humor, and romance, this show seems to have it all! Highly recommend if you're looking for a good time. Lovely War takes place between World Wars I & II as Greek Goddess Aphrodite tells a story to her fellow gods about two couples during WWI. This novel was a rollercoaster of emotions. Whether you read (or listened) to Lovely War or not, be prepared for spoilers as well as a discussion on WWI and historical pieces set during the Great War. It's bound to be an interesting listen no matter if you read the book or not. As the material is heavy, be sure to take care of yourself :) Thank you to Dahlia for sharing so much of your personal story. Downton Abbey w/ Emily Heyden

Join Stephanie and her guest Emily Heyden discuss the PBS Masterpiece series Downton Abbey with a look back on the show (that ran from 2010-2016) before discussing the recent news of the latest/third movie currently in the works. [Buckle up for spoilers!] Downton Abbey is the home to the Crawley family as well as the staff who serves them (very much an upstairs/downstairs story). The show starts in 1912 with the sinking of the Titanic and the death of the heir to the Crawley family, which leads to a distant cousin, Matthew Crawley, a member of the working class, to become heir of the estate. From inheritance and maintaining Downton to scandals and WWI, there is so much conflict in the show (and it gets very addicting). Emily would also like to note how much she loves the yellow labs on this show and can't believe she forgot to mention them :) Downton Abbey is available on Prime Video, Peacock, Brit Box and, as always, your local library.
