Everything In Conversation: To Voice Note Or Not To Voice Note

Happy Wednesday EIChatters! To voice note or not to voice note, that is the question. In a piece for the Independent from the start of the year Helen Coffey explored whether a rise in voice notes has helped kill the art of conversation. She writes that despite being an initial sceptic about voice notes and finding them awkward and less useful than a phone call, she has since come around and become a primary source of communication in her circle.A 2025 survey commissioned by Sky Mobile found that 62% of voice note recipients had experienced ‘voice note fatigue’, and 20% said they’d personally received a voice note longer than 10 minutes. More than one in ten said they received over 10 voice notes a day, and 44% said they listened at double speed to get through them quicker. There’s also apparently a geographical element to this that suggests the UK is actually lagging behind other countries in our adoption of recorded messages. A 2024 YouGov survey found that 48% of Indian respondents either preferred receiving voice notes or liked them just as much as texts, compared to just 18% of people in Great Britain. We dive in with your help!We hope you enjoy, as always please do rate, review and share us with a friend :) Kisses! Awkward Engagements, Circumcision Activism & Sheerluxe's AI Influencers

Hello EICabbages!Strap in because today we're taking you on a tour of the most salacious, strange and shocking stories in the news. Russell Brand running for mayor, TERF nonsense in the running space, Hannah Spencer calling out Westminster's drinking culture and a murder used for sexist click bait. From there we're taking on a topic that depressed us way back in 2024 after UK fashion and lifestyle magazine Sheerluxe introduced yet more AI influencers to its roster, with Brooke, Gigi, and Eden joining their OG AI-fluencer Reem. Comments on their socials are uniformly negative, but Sheerluxe seem undeterred. We discuss. And last (but not least) we're talking circumcision after The Cut published a piece titled ‘‘The Men Who Want Their Foreskins Back". The story centres on a 30-year-old man who was circumcised as a baby and recently underwent reconstructive penis surgery- plus the thriving online community of men going to lengths to manually "restore" their own foreskins. Not a topic we know much about, but we share what we learned from the piece and how it's shaped our current opinions. This week Oenone has been loving The Testaments on Disney+, Beef on Netflix, I Just Want You To Be Happy by Jem Calder (out 21st May) and The Cage on BBC iPlayer, Beth has been loving Expectation by Anna Hope and Ruchira has been loving Ex Machina, Search Party on YouTube and (secretly) Temptation Island on Netflix.Links: BBC - Influencer dies days after being hit by car in Soho Hannah Spencer Instagram Feminegra - Daily Mail's BBL Influencer Headline Sparks BacklashThe Standard - Russell Brand announced plan to run for London MayorPolitics Joe - What it's REALLY like in Westminster | Hannah Spencer interviewBBC - Sheerluxe defends use of AI influencer The Cut - The Men Who Want Their Foreskins Back Hosted on Acast. Everything In Conversation: Single Woman Tax

Happy Wednesday EICarrot cakes! This week we're tackling, maybe the only downside to being single for women? Glamour columnist Chante Joseph, known for her viral Boyfriends Are Embarrassing piece, published a recent piece titled ‘Is the ‘single woman tax’ going to cost me my future?’ In it she dives into the very real financial burden of not being coupled up.In the piece she speaks to Renée Sylvestre-Williams, the author of The Singles Tax: No-Nonsense Financial Advice for Solo Earners, who defines the ‘singles tax’ as the “financial penalty that single people are paying as a result of a society that has primarily focused on ‘the couple’.” She has some galling figures including the fact that retirement costs 44% more than for those in a couple. And if you’re single in London, you’re paying over £20,000 a year on living and lifestyle costs. She links this to the increased Hinge prompts joking about splitting rent and the fact that women are being encouraged to find a 6ft banker to couple up with. We dissect this dire situation ,with your help! Euphoria, Bieberchella & Celeb Snog Sightings

Hey EIChameleons, we're back! And so is some questionable TV from Sam Levinson - we get into it, as well as controversial Coachella performances and a little Lena Dunham chat! But we will be discussing Famesick next week so get your copies ready!Euphoria has returned to our screens, with its cast of characters now having graduated from high school and firmly transplanted 5 years into the future, in the wild, Wild West of the working Adult world. Stephanie Mcneal for Glamour writes, 'as I watched a close up of Sweeney licking water out of a bowl and endured a frankly disgusting scene of Cherry and Zendaya experiencing, let’s say, stomach issues, in a car after swallowing the drugs, I had to stop and ask the question: Who is this show for, exactly?’ - we have the same question!Next up! Bieberchella! 'Depending on your level of fandom, the stripped-down vision, with minimal audience asides, read as either radically vulnerable or disappointingly self-interested, The effect was both frustrating – would it really kill him to do more than one verse of 2015 anthem Where Are U Now? – and endearing; many tears were shed to the image of the man singing back to his 13-year-old self', writes Adrian Horton for the Guardian.Ruchira's Been Loving: I Swear, The L WordBeth's Been Loving: FamesickOenone's Been Loving: Famesick, Yesteryear, Line Of DutyEuphoria Season 3, Episode 1 Review: Who Is This Show for Now?Euphoria has become the most toxic show on television'Euphoria’ Season 3 is an unhinged disaster: review‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Feels Like Entertaining but Disjointed Fan Fiction: TV ReviewBieberchella’s Karaoke Set Healed an Entire GenerationJustin Bieber at Coachella review – pop’s troubled prince mostly hits right notes in low-energy setSabrina Carpenter issues apology after Coachella moment sparks backlash: ‘Could have handled it better’Sabrina Carpenter Apologizes for Mocking Arabic Call at CoachellaKarol G’s Historic Coachella Set Included Becky G, Wisin, and Tons of Latin Genres Hosted on Acast. UK Censorship, Problematic Millennial Feminism & The Drama

Helllo friends! Welcome to the EIChapel! This week we're making a vow to you all to cover interesting stories, dive deep into the discourse and share yet another bouquet of excellent recommendations.First up we're discussing a pretty grim story out of Manchester, after a school librarian revealed she had been asked to remove a host of book titles from her shelves. These books included Heartstopper, The Da Vinci Code, 1984, We Should All Be Feminists and Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates. We discuss the importance of reading beyond your age group and why we think these decisions fail children rather than protect them.Secondly we're untangling some thorny feminist internet discourse, after one Gen Z account accused millennial feminism of being sex-obsessed, shallow and misguided. They wrote "Gen Z is kinda clocking millennial/Gen X feminists tea. Y’all said/say men are trash but then advocate for having casual sex with many of them and partaking in kinks that may be harmful. It never made sense." We unpack this idea and interrogate the feminist messaging that we grew up with and whether our attitudes to sex really have been harmful to younger generations. And finally- Kristoffer Borgli's new Zendaya/R-Pattz fronted film The Drama. If you've not heard about it, then congratulations on being born literally this morning. To catch you up: what starts as a gorgeous meet-cute becomes something else after Emma (Zendaya) shares the worst thing she's ever done during a pre-wedding dinner with her maid of honour (Alana Haim), her husband (Mamoudou Athie), and Charlie (Edward Cullen Robert Pattinson). Everything In Conversation: Lindy West & The Great Polyamory Debate

Hello EICockapoos! This week we're diving into some discourse that's been rumbling on steadily for a few weeks and spawning new discourse in its wake... Lindy West's latest memoir and what it reveals about her polyamorous relationship and wider attitudes to non-traditional ways of loving. Some context: Lindy West is a feminist author, activist and comedian whose newly released memoir Adult Braces explores her journey from denial about her husband Aham's need to be poly and her eventual happy ending as one third of a triad with him and another partner. The details of the memoir have caused a bit of a stir after she described finding out from a third party that he was out kissing someone at a bar, with readers struggling to see this as anything other than what NOT to do when opening a marriage. With your help we discuss the fall out, the coverage and the case for caution when exploring a non-normative relationship style. Ye's Return To Festivals, Diva Extinction & The Girlification of 'Betting'

Hey EICrumpets,This week Wireless Festival announced that all three days would feature Ye as their headline off the back of his 12th studio album Bully. Ye was blocked from entering Australia last year after releasing the song ‘Heil Hitler’, and declared himself a Nazi around 2022, going on many X rants saying countless antisemitic things. We ask why now, and why are such comebacks easily dished out to men?Are the divas in for the same fate of dodos? Pop culture writer Louis Staples argues so. In a piece for Harper's, he says we're witnessing the extinction of divas in real-time. Women are the target for predictive market apps – platforms that sees users betting on everything from war, to Taylor Swift's wedding. Social accounts like @Polybaddies on X and @Kalshigirls have their eyes on young women through memes on matcha and starter packs. Why? Everything In Conversation : The Age Of Attraction

Hello EICreatures, we're back, and so are TV producers! Did we ask for another dating show? No! Did we get one? YES!Netflix says ‘Age of Attraction is throwing out the rulebook — and birthdates — singles build connections based purely on chemistry, compatibility, and an undeniable spark that has nothing to do with the year they graduated from high school. In this dating experiment, there’s only one question they can’t ask: 'How old are you?’'Filmed in Whistler Canada, the 40 singles meet at a retreat and take part in different activities to get to know each other… if they feel a special connection they can go to the 'promise room', exchange rings and commit to each other before they reveal their age to each other…Ellie Muir for the independent writes it's ‘an Oedipus complex disguised as a dating show’ ‘Age, surprise surprise, turns out to be a bit more than that. Mommy and daddy issues are always the elephant in the room here, but rarely interrogated. The younger women lament the "immature" men in their own generation and seek out someone older with financial stability, while the older men — most of them with children from previous relationships — definitely signed up to this show with the sole intention of securing a 20-something girlfriend.’ Has the pendulum swung back on the stigma around age gap relationships? Or does this show prove that they can indeed be very tricky territory? We hope you enjoy, as always please do rate, review and follow the show on your podcast player app! SNL UK, Chappell Roan Vs. Kids & Shy Girl Cancelled

Hello EICorgis! Happy Friday! This week we kick off by discussing a feel-good story involving seven courageous canines who went missing in China before returning home as a pack- led by a bossy little corgi called Da Pang (or Big Fatty). Then we get a first person report of Lily Allen's tour from Oenone. O is a huge fan, but does she think that the critics are right in calling Lily's 45 minutes of stage time a little... underwhelming? Then we're reviewing the show everyone was loving to hate (even before the first episode had aired)- SNL UK. Did we like it? Will we watch again? And do we think this could end up as enormous as the American OG?Up next, more Chappell Roan drama after she was slammed by former Chelsea footballer Jorginho. He claimed that she sent her security guard to scold his wife and 11 year old stepdaughter for bothering the singer at a hotel breakfast. Chappell (who has been banned from an upcoming festival in Rio de Janiero because of this drama) denies that this security guard was hers and says she never saw a mother or a child while having her breakfast. What do we make of it, why is Chappell such a target for these stories, and how the HELL is Jude Law involved? Finally: some literary drama after horror novelist Mia Ballard had her book Shy Girl pulled from shelves and cancelled after Hachette received claims it had been written with the help of AI. Mia denies these allegations and claims a third party editor was to blame. We discuss the book, the allegations and what it means for publishing that a partly AI book could potentially make it all the way to shelves before being detected. This week Oenone has been loving the group of seven dogs who travelled 17km home, Ruchira has been loving The L Word and Beth has been loving Ready or Not 2.Thank you SO much for listening and Cue Podcasts for the edit! The question is…did it? So for anyone who hasn’t watched it, Netflix released “Reality Check: America’s Next Top Model” on the 16th of February, and in three separate hour-long episodes it dives into the creation of the show which was hosted by Tyra Banks and then briefly Rita Ora, the many scandals that happened during its 24 seasons- or cycles, as the show called them- and how it all fell apart. We hear from many former contestants, as well as former judges J “Miss J” Alexander and Nigel Barker, and creative director on set Jay Manuel. But most controversially, Tyra Banks also appears and has her say- something people are having a lot of feelings about, and which we will get into. More TV news! A new limited series from Ryan Murphy's anthology franchise has captured the minds and hearts of the internet, myself included, it documents the intense, whirlwind romance and subsequent tragic marriage of John F. Kennedy Jr. played by Paul Anthony Kelly and Carolyn Bessette played by Sarah Pidgeon, Based on Elizabeth Beller's book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the show explores their rise as a 1990s "It Couple" while highlighting the immense, often suffocating pressure of fame, paparazzi, and legacy. Everything In Conversation: Friendship Vs. Motherhood

Happy Hump day EICrunchies! So last week an Instagram post by a child-free creator went semi-viral. The post explored the perspective of its child-free creator (Danni Duncan) and many other child-free people who have felt sad when a friendship has changed following a mate having a baby, and want spaces to express that freely. In the visuals for the post she writes: "I know your kids come first but I still believe friendship should go both ways so that makes me selfish. I understand you’re busy but I still hope to hear from you, so that makes me needy. I don’t expect the same time as before but I do hope for some effort, so that makes me unrealistic. I miss our friendship and I’ll say that out loud, so that makes me difficult. Or maybe I’m not a horrible friend. Maybe I just believe friendship should survive life changes. And that both people deserve to be seen.”And we wanted to discuss this- with your help. We ask: is it fair for CF women to express their sadness when a friend has a baby? Is it on mothers to cross the divide or should those of us without kids do the heavy lifting? Are some friendships just seasonal? And where on EARTH are the dads in all this?Thank you all SO much for your takes on this- as empathetic, thoughtful and considered as ever. Everything In Conversation : Lucy Letby & True Crime

Happy Wednesday EIConversationalists. This week we ask, should everything be content? As of early February 2026, there are at least seven major television and streaming documentaries specifically focused on the case of Lucy Letby. The latest documentary The Investigation of Lucy Letby landed on Netflix earlier this month, featuring, in their words ‘never-before-seen footage as well as interviews with case investigators, a friend of Letby, and one of the victims’ parents.’The words “digitally anonymised” popped up every time the grieving mother, or Letby’s college friend, “Maisie”, appeared on screen, because although the documentary used their real voices, and real words they used Ai generated humans to represent them.In a piece for Newsweek H. Alan Scott writes, ‘On paper, the logic is sound. In practice, it is deeply unsettling. The closer you look, the more the illusion unravels. They are talking FaceTuned images—avatars trapped in the uncanny valley, mimicking sorrow without any of the soul, Instead of honoring the victims and grappling with the incomprehensible horror of Letby's crimes, we are left debating the ethics of a visual effect.’Netflix defended the decision to Esquire, stating the technology was used "to protect the anonymity of the contributors at their request." The evening standard said it was 'a morally egregious use of AI slop'Aside from the AI issue which we go into, we can’t stop thinking about how many documentaries are popping up, seemingly constantly, about things that have just happened or are still happening.Do true crime documentaries need to have such a big place in our culture?Thank you so much for all of your opinions and takes on this topic, we love being in conversation with you all. Hello EICruisers! This week on the pod we're all over the map of pop culture, discussing everything from Brooklyn Beckham's tattoo cover-ups to cancelled RHONY stars to Taylor Swift's Croydon music video to France's open letter "reminding" 29-year-olds to have babies. We also get deeper into the newly released batch of Epstein files and discuss the fallout so far, how we're choosing to consume this news and why nobody can seem to easily frame this story. There's also some soul-searching to be had as the three of us ask... are WE performative? One commenter thought so after last week's episode. No hate to them (promise!) but it did make us think... where has this insult come from and what does it actually mean?Beth's been loving Schitt's Creek and a dognapping drama, Ruchira's been loving Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show and Oenone's been loving Industry and chatting to old men in Waterstones (more on her Substack here). Thanks so much for listening! The Classics, ICE Out Pins & Is Olivia Dean Being 'Woman'd'?

Happy Friday EICritics. It's a full house of hosts again at EIC headquarters, hallelujah! This week, we're wondering if little pins add up to big outcomes? And why the internet has suddenly turned on Olivia Dean.A lot went on at this year's Grammy’s which took place on Sunday night in LA. Kendrick Lamar won record of the year, Bad Bunny won album of the year and his reaction of disbelief and processing is already circulating as a meme, Olivia Dean was named as best new artist, and Billie Eilish won best song with Wildflower. But aside from the accolades, a big feature of this year’s ceremony- and something that’s been discussed a lot since- were the ICE Out pins that were worn by many attending - Kehlani, Billie Eilish and Finneas, both Justin and Harley Bieber, Joni Mitchell, plus a handful more. Should we be praising this, or questioning if celebrities scared to participate in true activism?Next up, in 2022, one of the internet's favourite culture writers Rayne Fisher-Quann coined a term when she tweeted, ‘Ottessa moshfegh is on the verge of getting woman'd | can feel it (woman'd is what I call it when everyone stops liking a woman at the same time)’, we ask, is this happening right now to Olivia Dean?Beth's been loving - Bridgerton Ruchira's been loving - Oh,Mary! , PerfectionOenone's been loving - The Count Of Monte Cristo2025 was ICE’s deadliest year in two decades. Everything In Conversation: Do Gen Z Hate Sex Scenes?

Hello EICrumpets! Welcome to Wednesday. For this week's Everything In Conversation we're talking about sex in films after actor and director Olivia Wilde responded to the statistic that almost half (48.4%) of Gen Z don't want to see as much sex in film and on TV. She said "I think the way that sex has been portrayed in film for a long time hasn’t been particularly realistic. There’s been this movement now towards authenticity, which is really good. So I choose to interpret that statistic maybe as Gen Z saying, ‘We don’t want to see inauthenticity anymore. We want to see real relationships, and we want to have something that feels more genuine.” Is she right that Gen Z are only rejecting poor representations of sex OR are they in fact a truly prudish generation who won't be happy until all love scenes are abolished and everyone involved put in jail? The Beckhams, Grief Porn & 2016

Hey EICapulets! To Brooklyn, or to Beckham? That is this week's question. There was simply no way of doing this episode without discussing the biggest news of the week, which is a pretty big statement, all things considered. On Monday evening, Brooklyn Beckham took to his Instagram and posted a series of stories stating that he does not want to reconcile with his family. This comes after years of speculation about a rift between the Beckhams and Brooklyn and Nicola, a lot of which started after their 2022 wedding. We discuss how and why this has taken the internet by storm, and what we make of it all.Next up! Chloe Zhao's Hamnet is based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name. The fictional story follows Agnes Hathaway (played by Jessie Buckley) and William Shakespeare (played by Paul Mescal) as they lose their son Hamnet to the plague- and how this tragedy births the play Hamlet. Very little is known about Shakespeare’s life, so this story has been compared to fan-fiction. But just a lil fact check: several other plays, including two comedies, Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It came between the death of Hamnet and the creation of Hamlet, according to The New Yorker.Since the film’s release there’s been a lot of claims it's "grief porn". We get into it.And lastly, whoever is doing 2016’s marketing needs a raise, after a nostalgia-based trend caused what feels like the entire internet to look back a decade to the days of Pokemon Go, Brexit, Beyonce’s Lemonade, Trump 1.0, Kylie lip kits and chokers to name but a few big moments and trends. For those of us who were old enough to own phones and participate in the culture and social media back then, throwbacks are aplenty. For those who missed it the first time around, FOMO is in full force. Harper’s Bazaar has called 2016 the “last good year”, and Glamour suggested it might be the last time we felt “hopeful”. According to TikTok, searches for 2016 surged by 454% in the first week of the new year and about 229 million posts have been made using their 2016 filter. Everything In Conversation: Rawdogging Boredom For Clout?

Happy Wednesday! We hope your EIConcentration is feeling sharp as we dive into our conversation about a trend where boredom is the goal.In a piece for The New York Times, called “They Want to Influence You to Do…Nothing’’ Alexander Nazaryan explores how boredom is the “unlikely star of a social media fad that has young people doing… absolutely nothing.” The rules? No screens, no talking, no music, no food, no games and no napping for a fixed amount of time. The point? Apparently to improve your attention span and break your addiction to scrolling on social media. And many people claim that it works, that after completing their challenge they feel energised, focused, creative and free. But there’s some skepticism too, mostly about the fact that so many of the people doing this are also filming it and posting it online. Can you really be that serious about fixing the impacts of too much internet if you’re still doing everything for the internet?Thank you so much for all of your opinions and takes on this topic, we love being in conversation with you all.O, R, B xxThe Guardian - Friction-maxxing: could less convenience lead to much more happiness?Observer - How knitting became my scrolling antidote NY Times - They Want To Influence You to Do... Nudifying Technology, Bad Husband Content & Toxic Ambition in Marty Supreme

Morning EICitizens! And welcome to the Republic of Content. On this week's docket...We head briefly over to Beverly Hills to discuss last Sunday's Golden Globes. What did we think of the winners and who do we deem the best dressed/worst behaved? Then we get stuck into Marty Supreme, Josh Safdie's new sports comedy-drama fronted by Timothée Chalamet. In it he plays ruthlessly ambitious Marty Mauser, a shoe salesman with grand plans to become the ping pong world champ. The film is getting rave reviews (and has just earned TC his very first Golden Globe)- but what did we think? Worth the hype or just another tired tale of a selfish man with big ambitions?Next up: Grok. 2026 started with mass digital violations, as huge numbers of women (and children) were targeted with deepfakes thanks to a new feature of Elon Musk’s AI tool which allowed digital undressing of real photos. As of this Wednesday Grok will apparently now ignore instructions to generate sexualised images, but we argue that the damage is already done. What do we think is behind this trend (spoiler: it's misogny) and what else should be done? Finally we investigate if people online are growing tired of content about useless male partners, especially if their wives and girlfriends won't listen. Comment threads are now full of the same sentiment: if you're not going to leave him, then leave us out if it. Is this a fair response? And does it speak to a cultural divide or just a digital one?Thank you SO MUCH for listening- as well as for your lovely messages and reviews. Everything In Conversation: 'The Diary Of A Misogynist'?

Happy Hump Day EICamels. This week we're delving into the world of male-led podcasts, specifically, Steven Bartlett's.Last week, Instagram account @notyourpolitefeminist posted a carousel titled ‘The Diary Of A Misogynist’. Meredith writes, ‘The Diary of A CEO is often framed as thoughtful, emotionally intelligent, and progressive. it presents itself as a space for growth, vulnerability, and "having the hard conversations." And on the surface, that's exactly what it looks like: reflective language, slow pacing, men talking about feelings. but here's my problem with Bartlett, it stays focused on men's inner worlds - their fear, their insecurity, their unmet needs without really interrogating the systems that still benefit men even when they're struggling. The podcast leans heavily on therapy language: trauma, attachment, healing, vulnerability. but stripped of any feminist analysis, those words lose their power.’Steven Bartlett released the first episode of DOAC in September 2017, but what started out as a hobby, and ‘way to learn from other business leaders’, has grown to become one of the biggest podcasts in the world, last year it reached one billion streams. However alongside its astronomical success, has it slowly descended into something very different, and perhaps even dangerous?Thank you so much for all of your opinions and takes on this topic, we love being in conversation with you all.O, R, B xx@notyourpolitefeminist's post BBC InvestigationNew Statesman - Steven Bartlett's Empire of Bluff Hosted on Acast. Everything In Conversation: The Women Quietly Quitting Their Husbands

Hello EICherries. We imagine you're all quietly quitting your work obligations right now, as we slither towards the end of 2025... but today we're going to be talking about the women who are quietly quitting their husbands. What is quiet quitting a marriage? It’s the slow, silent retreat that often happens behind closed doors when one partner, often a woman in midlife, simply checks out. Despite the fact that divorce rates among older adults have climbed over the past few decades, countless couples are staying together, because separation feels too exhausting, too financially risky, or too disruptive to the lives they’ve built. And in many cases, their husbands don’t even realise how far things have drifted until it’s too late.Monica Corcoran Harel writes ‘Passivity came up again and again in my reporting: Husbands tune out their disenchanted wives like Charlie Brown deflects the monotonous drone of his schoolteacher. They make flimsy promises to engage more on an emotional level or to help out around the house. Maybe they vacuum for a month or two. Or act all intrigued when a partner vents about an incapable colleague. But eventually, the extra-credit effort falls by the wayside or just doesn’t feel like enough. In some cases, the man’s need to be lauded for taking on a fraction of the physical load only punctuates how much a woman has to accomplish every single day.’We get into it!Thank you so much for your takes on this topic, we love being in conversation with you all and hope you enjoy the episode, O,R,B xxThe Women Quietly Quitting Their Husbands Hosted on Acast. Everything In Conversation: Is Veganism Dead?

Happy Wednesday EICarnivores* (consumers of meaty content, that is)This week we're asking: where are all the vegans? In this article for Dazed Laura Pitcher investigates the apparent decline in plant-based restaurants, food options, and people who openly identify as vegans, and asks whether this is related to a shift away from wokeness and empathy and towards conservatism and self-interest. Thank you so much for all of your amazing takes, we genuinely love hearing from all of you every week. If we can ask a final small(ish) favour, recommending us to a friend, leaving us a 5 star rating or writing a short review wherever you're reading this massively helps us to keep making the show. Wicked For Good, Christmas Ads & Ad Fatigue

Hey EICrackers, merry Friday...get ready for a magical, festive &... fatigued, episode!First up, Wicked For Good. We all went down the yellow brick road to the cinema to see the sequel. The story picks up after Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) has fled the Emerald City and been branded the "Wicked Witch of the West" by the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh). Glinda (Ariana Grande), now "Glinda the Good," struggles with her public role as the Wizard's associate while her friendship with Elphaba is tested. The film focuses on their final journey to see each other with empathy and change Oz "for good". We get into it.Next! We don’t know if you've heard, but Christmas is coming. How do we know this? Because the annual supermarket/high street Christmas adverts have dropped in the UK. High street festive ads have become peak Christmas culture in the UK. For our non-UK listeners, Lena Dunham did a fairly good poke at this in Too Much with the John Lewis Rita Ora playing Santa ad. So this year, we’re going to take a look at some of the big ones that have dropped. And finally... from Christmas Ads to CHRIST, not another ad. In a piece on Substack, Hannah Glenn explores her own fatigue with advertising, in a world where everything and everyone seems to be trying to sell her something. We hope you enjoy as always please do leave a review on your podcast player app, LY, O,R,B xxxThank you so much to Cue for editing this podcast!Beth's been loving: No One Is Talking About This, Patricia Lockwood, Oenone's Substack Ruchira's been loving: Wuthering Heights,BroadchurchOenone's been loving: Pluribus, Mother Mary TrailerWicked For Good - box office smash“Wicked: For Good” Is Very, Very BadCrisis At Christmas AppealTop 10 UK Christmas AdsJoel Goldby's Gift GuideNothing Feels Authentic Anymore Because Everything is an Ad, Hannah Glenn Hosted on Acast. Everything In Conversation: Where Are All The Male Authors?

Hello EICritical Thinkers & happy humping day (or whatever the saying is). This week we're discussing the apparent mass-vanishing act of male authors, after a piece for The Guardian suggested that David Szalay's Booker win has "put masculinity back at the centre of literary fiction." Oh! Ok!In a rebuttal for Vogue, author and friend of the podcast Eliza Clarke argues that it’s time to put this debate to bed. She writes: “Male writers still continue to dominate literary awards. They make up a large portion of our bestsellers, all the while continuing to be viewed as more worthy and deserving of critical plaudits. Bernadine Evaristo remains the only Black woman to have won a Booker Prize, ever, and she had to share that win with Margaret Atwood.”With your help and takes we ask: is there any truth to it? And if so: what's driving women's dominion in literary fiction? Thanks for all of your thoughts as ever! Follow us on IG @everythingiscontentpod. Kim Kardashian's Acting, Millennial Makeovers & The Return of Vine

Hello EICherries 🍒 We're back with a fresh crop of content for you...Ryan Murphy's latest legal drama All's Fair has kickstarted the internet's incredible meme cycle. Just how bad is Kim Kardashian's pivot to acting? Why is she wearing a pencil skirt with exposed thong? And could this girlboss law firm series land itself into the camp canon? Next up, millenials are spending huge amounts on cosmetic work. A new Bustle piece speaks to the women convinced this is the natural outcome from never being able to afford a house. And finally Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is back after selling the site to Elon Musk and essentially leaving it to metaphorically burn. Guess what... he's now bringing back Vine, the original and beloved video-sharing platform that unexpectedly shut down in 2017. Is he the saviour we need or is this something more sinister?Thank you so much for listening <3 O, R, B xoxoIn partnership with Cue Podcasts.-----This week, Ruchira has been loving Bugonia and Princess Mononoke. Real Housewives of London, Rosalía & Rini (Skincare For Children)

Hey EIChihuahuas, happy Friday! To celebrate, we gift you a brand new episode, kisses. This week on the podcast it’s just Oenone & Beth steering the content ship through the choppy waters of: The Real Housewives of London, the biblical new release from Rosalía, & a controversial new celebrity skincare line.First... Real housewives of London premiered this summer, with many curious as to how this beloved show would fare across the Atlantic. The series follows eight women navigating London’s ultra-wealthy social circles, balancing old money, new money, & country piles. There’s glamorous events, designer drama, & class tensions with the expected Housewives mix of alliances, gossip, & fallouts. The series sees the women get into blows over some dubious dentistry aka teeth-gate, renting outfits, not picking up the bill & the definition of ‘best friend’. We share our thoughts on the series & the explosive two-parter reunion.Next up, on November 6 Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell launched a new line of sheet masks for children. Everyone’s writing about it from Glamour, to Marie Claire, The New York post & The Metro, & not an insignificant number of you guys in our DMs, too. So is this a dystopian nightmare, or just a bit of harmless fun that’s been blown out of proportion? And last but by no means least, an album hotly anticipated globally, but also very much on this podcast, & that is LUX, the fourth record by Spanish singer and songwriter Rosalía. According to Pitchfork it’s “a heartfelt offering of avant-garde classical pop that roars through genre, romance, and religion”. The BBC called it “radical and riveting” & NME said it’s “an arresting album of astonishing scope and ambition”. The 33 year old, who is a trained Flamenco singer, sings in 13 different languages on the album, including Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese, Latin and Sicilian, and worked for a year writing the lyrics and working with professional translators to make sure they were just right. It is receiving an avalanche of five star reviews for artistry, composition, narrative, lyrics. The album is now out, we’ve both listened to it... We’re by no means musical experts, but we give our thoughts.Thank you so much to Cue podcasts for the edit.Beth's been loving: Shirley Valentine, The Missing KayakerOenone's been loving: Loren Ipsum, Andrew GallixReal Housewives Of LondonShay Mitchell statement on RiniWhat Dermatologists Really Think About Sheet Masks for Toddlers - Rosalía Has Biggest Streaming Debut of Any Female Spanish-Language Artist on Spotify love ya O, R, B xx Hosted on Acast.
