EWB 432 KILL OR BE KILLED 5 PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID
Rennie and I are back another episode or KILL OR BE KILLED, our exploration of the bleak, brutal movies of the 70’ and 80’s. The seminal masterpiece PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID, directed by Sam Peckinpah, in prime form, is our subject this time around. There are a multitude of cuts available that have been released over the years so, for the record, we will be used the 1988 Turner Preview Cut for basis. This, 122 minute version is an attempt to combine the theatrical release and some “new” scenes that we edited out of the theatrical version and is widely considered closer to Sam Peckinpah’s intent. We go a little bit off brand with this installment of Kill or Be Killed. It’s a preview of what we will be doing with our Neo Noir Maniacs miniseries over at Necomaniacs. EWB 419 Steve Austin Today is the Day
I have to be honest, having Steve Austin on as a guest was a bucket list item for me. I have been a Today is the Day fan for decades, having discovered them on Clusterfuck, the three-way split with Chokebore and Guzzard that Amphetamine Reptile released way back in 1994. I was hooked; I thought Today is the Day was the future of music, combined all of the angst, aggression, frustration and energy of metal and punk but with a undefinable uniqueness that defined a whole legion of bands including Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye and their imitators. NEVER GIVE IN is the new release, marking another step forward in the evolution of this iconic musical beat. It’s a true honor to have Steve on Everything Went Black. Intro: “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “The Choice is Yours” – Today is the Day

EWB 416 NO KINGS
This episode is not for everyone but I feel compelled to put this out on the feels of th No Kings weekend. I have never been political; for most of my life, I have felt like politics had little impact on my life. Most people probably feel the same way, dealing with the everyday trials of making a living and taking care of themselves and their loved ones. Politics has always felt like this abstraction to me, which is probably why Trump and MAGA have found a foot hold in the US political machine. I attended the Newark No Kings Rally and I wanted to share some of my observations and thoughts. Intro: “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “State Control” – Discharge
-
274

EWB 411 KILL OR BE KILLED SORCERER
This week Rennie and I discuss William Friedkin’s SORCERER, a film that was a critical and commercial flop when it was released in 1977. As the years went by, the film enjoyed a critical reassessment and is even considered by some to be a classic. If you are a fan of gritty realism where there are no heroes, this is a film for you. Also, dig the incredible score by Tangerine Dream. Intro: “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Intro 2: “The Call” – Tangerine Dream Outro: “Abyss” – Tangerine Dream

EWB 405 PAUL ALOISIO RESTLESS SPIRIT
Paul Aloisio of Restless Spirit joins us this week for a tribute / remembrance of Ozzy Osbourne. It’s a heavy time in not only heavy metal but in the larger popular culture. Apologies for the relatively poor audio quality. Intro: “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Mr. Crowley” – Ozzy Osbourne

Fast forward over two decades and Deadguy has now deployed their new album Near Death Travel Services available from Relapse Records.
