Everybody you've just purchased a home, but you don't have access to it yet and you want new garage doors before you move in. So it's a new house. You don't have access to it yet. Can you get a quote on a new garage door? I've asked Adam Greer from easy lift garage doors to help us answer that question, Adam, how are you? Uh Great. How are you doing? Fantastic. So how do you solve that problem? People uh don't have access to the new home yet, but they want to get the garage door replaced before they move in. Yeah, so we could give a, a guessimate, uh is the best we can do. I just clarify that I can, uh based on what you've told me on the side, um, you know, we can give you a close, uh almost usually accurate, but I definitely as a company, we prefer to get our, you know, we need to get on site uh before we finalize any deal, take uh measurements and, and make sure the style they're looking for and hoping for uh can be met. Uh But typically we can give, um, a rough, almost 100% accurate, uh, quote just by, you know, by measuring from the outside. Uh, maybe the homeowners already thrown a tape measure on there. Uh, so, yes, is the final, uh, estimate I don't like to finalize till I've seen it. Uh, but we can, we can pretty much meet your need. Adam, you've been doing this for a very long time and you could probably just drive up to the house and take a quick look and be pretty close. Yes. Yeah, it's sometimes you get thrown off the, the heights here in the, you know, height of a door here in the Houston area. Sometimes they're not quite seven ft tall and metal. That's one of the reasons when you do it, they're like six ft. Uh, they've got this so you have to have a special top section and sometimes from the street. Uh, that's, I've missed that a time or two. Um, why I just, we just like to finalize by throwing a tape measure up and, and then seeing the inside making sure there's no obstacles that they weren't able to tell me about. For more information about EZ Lift Garage Doors & More in Katy, Texas log on to www.ezohd.com or check them out at www.checkapro.com.   Visit Us At -  EzLiftGaragesDoors&More   You Can Call Anytime:  (832) 497-4260   Podcast Episode Transcription: This is the Check A Pro radio show check a pro Joe has assembled a team of pre-qualified home service contractors to bring you the latest in services products and techniques now here's your host the man with a hard hat and tool belt check a pro Joe one of the most important things in your garage is your garage door spring that actually really makes the garage door go up and down with great ease if the garage door spring is not working properly if it's broken you will not get the garage door up and down I've asked my friend Adam Greer from easy lift garage doors to join me here on the program because this question comes up a lot from listeners Adam what is the difference between garage door springs and how long will they last so you have what's called an extension spring which only uses on the single car garage doors the 8 by 7 is 9 by 7 and that spring is the type that stretches down your horizontal tracks so they those springs actually stretch and retract and that's what operates the door it's the lowest grade spring out there then you have the next level would be Wayne Dalton and that spring you don't see it it's an internal spring and that's going to get you about 6000 for their base model about 6000 cycles what does that mean to the homeowner depends on machines the door but we try to help people six years somewhere in that range you'll use up that six 6000 cycles then you have the torsion spring system which is where you'll see a physical strain above the board that's your best ring option out there is to use torsion springs and that a base torsion spring system it's going to be about 10,000 so that's you that's going to kind of starting place the cycles can be you know we can get up to 60,000 cycles there there's lots of you can upgrade this spring and get you maximum cycles and that's going to depend on the weight of the door the size and the door a couple of things you have to take a note of that we can definitely get you some higher cycle lifecycle springs but a 10,000 cycle spring 7 to 10 years somewhere on the average toll America a lot to unpack there everybody if you didn't get it go back and listen again in short I believe Adam is recommending the torsion spring that's it's a standard spring it's the one that he put in my home on both my garage doors I've got a double and a smaller single and he actually swapped out the old fashioned springs that did go down the length of the track with the torsion spring and I'm happy with it yes thank you Adam I appreciate it you're more than welcome Check A Pro is your local source for pre-qualified contractors stay tuned for more of the check a pro radio show.

For more information about EZ Lift Garage Doors & More in Katy, Texas log on to www.ezohd.com or check them out at www.checkapro.com.   Visit Us At -  EzLiftGaragesDoors&More   You Can Call Anytime:  (832) 497-4260   Podcast Episode Transcription:   This is the Check a Pro radio show, check a pro Joe has assembled a team of pre-qualified home service contractors to bring you the latest in services products and techniques now here's your host the man with a hard hat and tool belt check a pro Joe a frequently asked question is why should I purchase an insulated garage door and for those of you who don't know most garage doors are not insulated and the question is why would you buy an insulated garage door I've asked Adam Greer from easy lift garage doors to help me answer that question because he is the garage door expert here on the program today Adam how are you great always pleasure again so what's the answer to the question why purchase an insulated garage door that's a great question actually and so when somebody is interested in that my I kind of flipped the question what is you're trying to accomplish is it going to be a man cave well then it's an easy winner we go to the highest form of isolation which is like an R17 but then we explain to them that you're going to need to have some kind of climate control in your garage and that would justify man caving if they're saying hey the son of evening beats on my door and I just need to kind of kill that then there's a lesser like an R7 final back door that kind of deals with that if they think oh it's just something that maybe I should do they have no real reason and it's not going to benefit them we help them understand it is that worth your money then so it really depends on the purpose what you're trying to accomplish and then we can help you there's so many levels of options at that point so the word should you there's never a should you would it benefit you it's you and meet your needs and serving let's go with it well if it helps our listeners my wife and I decided to get an insulated door I'll tell you my reasons one reason is it's a lot quieter another reason is it just feels more substantial and safer whether this is true or not I believe it's going to last longer just because it feels more substantial is that fair right in that and that may be again in that question you know we sat down with you actually and what are you trying to accomplish and sometimes it is that the durability is definitely is more durable and that's maybe one of the answers that may be the only motivator and you got to highly decorated type door you know it's definitely custom door often the custom doors are only offered in an insulated door so again what does the customer want what are they hoping to accomplish when it's over and will help them meet that need and my wife and I are very happy with our garage doors Adam thank you so much for joining me here on the program today my pleasure thank you check a Pro is your local source for pre-qualified contractors stay tuned for more of the check a pro radio show.

For more information about EZ Lift Garage Doors & More in Katy, Texas log on to www.ezohd.com or check them out at www.checkapro.com.   Visit Us At -  EzLiftGaragesDoors&More   You Can Call Anytime:  (832) 497-4260   Transcription: Can't I go to the Home Improvement store 0:02 and buy my own garage door and install 0:05 it myself this is the Check A Pro radio 0:08 show Check A Pro Joe has assembled a 0:10 team of pre-qualified Home Service 0:11 contractors to bring you the latest in 0:13 Services products and techniques now 0:15 here's your host the man with a hard hat 0:17 and tool belt check a pro Joe here at 0:19 Checker Pro radio we get questions all 0:22 the time from listeners and this one 0:23 keeps coming in over and over again 0:26 and it's about garage doors I've asked a 0:29 garage door expert Adam Greer from Easy 0:31 Lift garage doors to join me in helping 0:34 answer this question hi Adam how are you 0:36 I'm doing great Joe thanks for having me 0:38 on once again it's always a pleasure 0:39 yeah and thank you the question is can I 0:41 go to the big box stores and buy my own 0:45 garage door instead of hiring a company 0:47 like yours 0:48 uh you know it's a it's a touchy 0:50 question certainly can they all sell 0:52 them is it worth it is the bigger 0:54 question you know because you're going 0:55 to pay more than you would actually pay 0:56 buying from a professional and here's 0:58 the situation if you go buy a Weber 0:59 grill from Home Depot it's not the same 1:01 as buying a Weber grill from Weber 1:03 everybody makes a box store version of 1:05 their product and it sells it still a 1:07 top dollar so yes 1:10 that's the big question and the answer 1:12 from a professional would be no I it's 1:14 it's not worth your money and by the 1:16 time you add labor and everything you 1:17 spent more than you would spend 1:18 typically by hiring just a professional 1:20 home start so the quality of the door 1:22 isn't better and the price is not better 1:24 plus the homeowner would have to put the 1:27 door in themselves or hire someone to do 1:29 it correct and truthfully the quality 1:32 typically is is less you know it's the I 1:34 don't want to use brand names but they 1:35 all sell the brand name but even if you 1:38 went to that manufacturer in Houston 1:40 you'll get that brand name but a better 1:43 version of the brand than what they're 1:45 giving to the box stores and something 1:47 as a professional home service provider 1:50 you don't want to hear from the 1:51 homeowner I've bought this door at The 1:53 Big Box store but I want you the home 1:56 service provider to install it you can't 1:58 back that door up can you correct in 2:01 fact we get those calls all at the work 2:03 all we're going to stand behind is our 2:04 labor whatever that package has or 2:06 missing or whatever damage it's on you 2:08 and it they're never right there half 2:11 time they're missing parts it's it's 2:13 ridiculous and then you would have to 2:15 use parts from your truck and that's not 2:16 the full package and it's going to cost 2:18 a homeowner more and in the end when 2:20 that door fails and they call you you're 2:23 gonna shrug your shoulders and say ain't 2:24 our door exactly and we stress that with 2:27 them uh we will not take responsibility 2:29 I've had doors get dropped off by The 2:32 Big Box store that are literally they 2:34 must have drove a forklift work through 2:35 it and dropped it off at their porch and 2:37 you open up and go look here you go 2:39 there's what you gotta go fight them and 2:41 it's not easy at that point as I say 2:43 hire a professional have them bring the 2:46 product to the home and that Home 2:48 Service professional is of course 2:50 responsible for it and they will back it 2:52 up Adam thank you so much for joining me 2:53 today Checker Pro is your local source 2:55 for pre-qualified contractors stay tuned 2:58 for more of the Check A Pro radio show!

actually my garage door guy he's a 0:23 garage door expert he's been doing this 0:25 for a very very long time I brought him 0:28 on the program today to talk to all of 0:31 us about your garage door and replacing 0:36 the spring for your garage door Adam how 0:39 are you 0:40 I'm doing great Joe thanks for having me 0:42 once again it's always a pleasure I 0:44 appreciate you taking time out of your 0:46 busy day to talk to me and my listeners 0:49 so this question comes up a lot so I'm 0:53 gonna pose this to you why do we need to 0:55 replace the garage door spring is this 0:59 something that's necessary or is the 1:01 garage door guy just trying to sell us 1:03 something we don't need 1:05 huh that's a really good question and it 1:08 does get asked pretty frequently 1:10 um I guess with the story explaining 1:11 what the spring does so the spring 1:14 counterbalances the door so let's just 1:17 take an average two-car garage door 1:19 which is 16-7 it's just your No Frills 1:22 25 gauge door 1:24 weighs approximately you know 160 to 175 1:27 pounds depending on the manufacturer 1:29 type of thing and um and the confusion 1:33 is that people use their hands and if 1:35 they've had to disconnect their opener 1:37 for a power outage or some other reason 1:39 and they're able to open it by hand they 1:41 think it it works magically 1:43 um and then we get the phone call we can 1:45 get our door open today and our car is 1:47 stuck and uh and we got them we 1:49 explained to him it's a broken spring 1:52 and they well I I've used it without 1:55 this you know I've without the opener 1:57 before and and it's always worked I 1:59 pulled that red string and it and it 2:01 opens right but today you have a broken 2:04 spring so the thing that makes the door 2:06 work is actually broken 2:08 um sometimes it's not broken it's just 2:10 at the end of its life it's so weak that 2:12 it just the opener still struggles to 2:14 open that door because again openers 2:16 aren't even designed to lift weight 2:19 they're supposed to just guide a 2:20 balanced door so you need that door 2:22 balanced so it's a couple things I've 2:24 had customers ask me just to can you 2:26 just take that spring off and just make 2:28 this door work you know without it and 2:31 um but it's it's just important to 2:32 understand 2:33 that that spring is what makes 170 2:37 pounds seemed to weigh nothing if that 2:41 spring is broke you have to lift 170 2:43 pounds and some guys will say well I can 2:45 do 170 pounds in the gym but you have a 2:48 16 foot wide seven foot tall barbell if 2:52 you will that just doesn't live very 2:53 easily so we had a customer just uh a 2:58 week and a half or so ago who was trying 3:01 to get us to can't you just make the 3:03 door functional and then we can do the 3:04 spring repair later he had a broken 3:06 spring and it's we couldn't get another 3:08 scan the only way to make it functional 3:10 is we have to do the spring repair and 3:13 uh he literally thought he was going to 3:15 find someone else to make it work and uh 3:18 let us walk away I don't know what he 3:20 ended up having with that John but he 3:22 just could not understand that that 3:25 spring is what makes that door work and 3:28 so that's it's a major safety issue the 3:31 spring is broken you are somehow using 3:33 that door still you're taking a chance 3:36 I'm getting hurt destroying the door 3:39 ruining the opener there's a lot of 3:41 things can take place by operating the 3:43 door because some people go up to the 3:45 opener just crank the Open Force full 3:48 blast so that it somehow grunts its way 3:51 through but you're really asking for a 3:53 world of hurt on that I totally agree 3:56 with you I know something about garage 3:57 doors I'm not the expert like you but 4:00 it's simple everybody I'm a homeowner 4:03 like you guys listening it's very simple 4:04 you need to have a spring that is wound 4:08 properly the door needs to be balanced 4:11 without the spring you cannot get the 4:14 garage door to open with or without the 4:16 garage door operator or the garage door 4:18 opener and Adam's right he knows this 4:20 way more than I do when your spring does 4:22 not work you cannot lift that door and 4:25 the garage door opener don't even try to 4:27 do that because you're going to damage 4:28 that and now you're gonna have to get a 4:30 new spring and a garage door opener so 4:33 the best thing to do is when it breaks 4:36 and here's a Telltale sign you can hear 4:38 it sometimes it sounds like a little 4:40 bomb going off if you hear a big boom in 4:42 your garage take a look at the spring 4:44 but if you can't get your garage door up 4:46 it really could be the spring call a 4:49
