For nearly a decade, I found myself in what I thought was a relationship but turned out to be a ‘situationship’—a confusing, unfulfilling space with someone who wasn’t ready for the depth I was seeking. At the same time, I found myself entangled in a similar pattern with my job of two decades. My work became my whole world, claiming to be my ‘family’ because I spent so much time there. But, over time, I realized that this job was just as dysfunctional as the family dynamics I thought I’d escaped. All of this built up over two years, leading me to a breaking point that forced me to take a step back and focus on healing through intensive therapy. When I finally chose to end that ‘situationship,’ I marked it by bringing a new kitten into my life, a symbol of new beginnings.
