There's currently no shortage of struggle across the peoples' movements, many of which are dominating the mainstream news outlets. We want to highlight a critical struggle that is not making the headlines, and that is the fight for Black Liberation. On December 9, 2025, organizers from the US touched down in Venezuela to participate in the International Peoples' Assembly for Sovereignty and Peace conference. This was in an effort to show solidarity and support the people of Venezuela and their fight for the sovereignty of their country. Jae Franklin was one of these organizers. As a Black Queer organizer in Chicago, Jae serves as a co-chair of the Anti-War Committee Chicago, the Coalition Against the Trump Agenda, and is a member of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization. On Sept. 24, 2010, more than 70 FBI agents took part in a series of coordinated raids that were aimed at activists of the anti-war and international solidarity movements, and also members of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO). In a bogus investigation of “material support of terrorism” charges, seven houses and an office in Minneapolis and Chicago were raided. Agents forcibly entered his residence and ransacked his belongings before taking him away in handcuffs.Alejandro faces absurd charges of "conspiracy to commit civil disorders." This is a transparent political accusation meant to criminalize and deter the wave of protests and legitimate activism against ICE terror in Los Angeles. Alejandro has done nothing wrong, and his arrest is unjustifiable. As an organizer who has spent years courageously defending immigrant families, he represents exactly the kind of grassroots leadership that the Trump administration seeks to eliminate with intimidation and repression. This arrest is part of a broader pattern of political persecution, from the FBI's historical targeting of Chicano activists, Black liberation organizers, and anti-war protesters to the current escalation of attacks against those resisting Trump's deportation agenda. On Thursday, April 24, Tallahassee Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) organized a rally demanding the FSU administration stop allowing manifestations of white supremacy on campus. The protest was called in response to a mass shooting by a white supremacist on April 17 that resulted in the deaths of Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba, as well as the injury of six others.Towards the end of the protest, Lain Dorsey, head of communications with the SDS chapter, turned on a microphone with a hidden speaker and pointed it toward the admin building. One FSU police officer gave Dorsey a trespass warning for using amplified sound, but they ignored it. A swarm of police descended upon Dorsey, arresting them as they chanted, “Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba! On August 19, over 20,000 people marched on the opening day of the Democratic National Convention, demanding an end to U.S. aid to Israel and an end to the genocide in Gaza. The march was the result of over a year of work by the Coalition to March on the DNC. Marchers came within sight and sound of the Democratic National Convention, putting heat on United States government as it facilitates a genocide. More than 270 organizations from across the country worked for over a year to organize the March on the Democratic National Convention. Israel has relied on U.S.-supplied aid to carry out its genocidal campaign in Gaza. The coalition made its main slogans “Stand with Palestine” and “End U.S. aid to Israel.” Other issues included immigrant rights and legalization for all; defending LGBTQ and reproductive rights; stopping police crimes and enacting community control of the police; defending the right to unionize and strike; and demanding money for jobs, schools, healthcare, housing and the environment. Today we are joined by Carlos Montes, an iconic leader of the Chicano National Movement. Carlos was the founder, spokesperson and minister of information for the Brown Berets. He was also a key leader of the 1968 Los Angeles High School walkouts, the Chicano Moratorium against the Viet Nam War, the mega-marches from 2006 and continues today as a leader of Centro Community Service Organization in Los Angeles. Louise is a chief steward and executive committee member of her union, the United Legal Workers (ULW), and works as a staff attorney for the ULW's farm worker project. Louise describes the unique struggles involved with organizing workers in a more "professional" industry, the need to fight the boss even at non-profit organizations, and the reasons to fight as a union that go well beyond getting pay raises.
