The group’s 1983 newsletter unpacks the main reasons behind its founding; firstly, to recognize women’s unique position within the community, and secondly to address the need to gather in a group setting where “[women] could share their problems and discuss issues which affect the community” (Fordsburg Women’s Group Newsletter, 1983).In addition, the newsletter sets out the FWG’s aims and objectives ; which explained why the group was formed, what the group was doing and how the group was related to other women’s groups as well as the activities, the group had already started such as organising women not to participate in the tricameral parliament, keep fit classes, food parcels for African families who were affected by the Vaal
