Fireside Chapters

Around the campfire, stories come alive. In this podcast, two friends take you chapter by chapter through great books, mixing deep discussion with a little humor and a lot of warmth. We’re starting with The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss — a tale of music, magic, and myth that’s perfect for a fireside conversation. Whether you’re reading along or just love a good story told by the firelight, there’s always room by the fire.

Episode 31: A Place to Burn

Tonight we are going over Chapter 54: A Place to Burn. Apparently we can keep up singular chapter episodes for a solid 3 episodes. Kvothe finally plays for the Eolian, I know I've been waiting for this chapter for a while. Theres honestly so much good stuff in this one I am not sure what to give a taste of in this description. This is one of the better chapters in the book, if you've made it this far just listen to this one, trust me.Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.

    Episode 30: Slow Circles

Tonight we are going over Chapter 53: Slow Circles. Two episodes for singular chapters!? How long can we keep it up? I hope there are some people that appreciate dedicating a whole episode to the introduction of Auri. Get your tinfoil hats ready, because we go over some of the most interesting theories about her. Could she be a princess, or a fey? Is she the one rescued from a sleeping barrow king? Could she be the one who names him Dulator? Don't worry, I'll bring all this up again as more information is brought forth. Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.PS. Let me know if the audio sounds better now. Thanks!

    Episode 28: Chapters 50 & 51

Tonight we are going over chapter 50: Negotiations and chapter 51: Tar and TinLet the bickering begin. We get the arrival of a Goated character, despite what Matt thinks, and we get a brief explanation of Runes. Entirely convincing me that it is complicated, annoying, and not worth the effort. We also get a hint of someone spying on Kvothe. Could it be a lost princess, or a moon fey. Only time will tell.Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.

  4. 29

    Episode 27: Chapters 47, 48 & 49

Tonight we are going to go over chapter 47: Barbs, chapter 48: Interlude - A Silence of a Different Kind, and chapter 49: The Nature of Wild Things. We still do three chapter episodes? I guess it's hard not to when some of these chapters are so short. We see Kvothe enter a business arrangement regarding a mutual hatred between him and his co-owner. Bast admits to becoming far too scared of things since meeting Kvothe, coincidence? And our Hagrid sized interpretation of Kilvin is squashed. Pull up a log around the fire as we break it all down.

  5. 28

Episode 26: The Ever Changing Wind

Tonight we are going over Chapter 46: The Ever Changing WindA lot happens in this chapter, and it is honestly one of the funniest chapters of any book I have ever read. If you haven't fallen in love with Elodin by the end of this I don't even know what to tell you. We learn about the crockery, see Elodin call the name of stone, and watch Kvothe go for a short flightPull up a log and join us by the fire as we break it all down.

  6. 27

    Episode 25: Chapter 44 & 45

Tonight we are going over Chapter 44: The Burning Class and Chapter 45: Interlude-Some Tavern TaleKvothe continues his struggle between picking which Master wants him more, and it seems he might pick the one that wants nothing to do with him. The old stern doctor, the burly lamp obsessed engineer, or the certifiable insane asylum escapee. Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.

  7. 26

    Episode 24: The Flickering Way

Tonight we are going over chapter 43: The Flickering Way.The highlight and simultaneously the low point of this chapter have to be the insults Kvothe and Ambrose hurl at each other. We finally see the rest of the archives, if only briefly. We get the names of some very important people to call back on later, and Kvothe is accused of peeing on one of Loren's books.Pull up a log and join us for this episode. Also I believe I have figured out the audio issues, unfortunately there were about 4 or 5 more episodes recorded by the time I did. I will do my best to edit them to limit the annoyance of it. Thank you again for bearing with us.

  8. 25

    Episode 23: Chapter 41 and 42

Tonight we are going over Chapter 41: Friend's Blood, and Chapter 42: BloodlessLots of talk about blood I guess. We are going to get the creation of the first mythological tale of many to involve Kvothe; whether or not he can bleed. We also learn a bit more about Willem, and get two Masters that seem to be fighting for Kvothe's attention. Who will he choose? This week on Fireside Chapters. Also just as an apology to any viewers. We have been having some problems with audio. At the time of writing this we have recorded up to episode 28. I am working on fixing it, but I can't really isolate the problem. It only appears to happen at random times, and of course I only notice it when editing. Please bare with us, as this is not something I am very familiar with. Apologies again!

  9. 24

    Episode 22: On The Horns

Tonight we are diving into Chapter 40: On the HornsOne of the better chapters, even if it is a bit barbaric. We learn about the masters a bit more, including who I think to be an ally and who is an enemy to Kvothe. Lots of further world building in the implications of this situation, and Kvothe twists the whole thing into joining the arcanum. Yay? Was it worth it?Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.

  10. 23

    Episode 21: Chapters 38 and 39

Tonight we are diving into Chapter 38: Sympathy in the Mains and Chapter 39: Enough Rope.Okay, so a lot happens here. We get a proper introduction to the complete and utter Jack*ss that is Hemme, and his idiotic tendencies towards women. We finally get to see the archives, even if only half of it. There's a stern conversation with Lorren, and something tells me it won't be the last. Lastly we get to see Hemme eat a little humble pie. Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.

  11. 22

    Episode 20: Bright Eyes

Tonight we are diving into Chapter 37: Bright Eyes. We get the formation of the Anti Ambrose League, or as others might like to call them, Kvothe's friends. The borderline unhinged Manet. Lovable Sim, and the sincere Willem. Kvothe also wounds his pride, which we all know can only lead to bad things.Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.

  12. 21

    Episode 19: Less Talents

Tonight we are diving into Chapter 36: Less Talents. There's a lot in our first University chapter. We learn kvothe is not the best at math, we get introduced to all of the masters (Kilvin = MVP), Elodin gives us something to look for, and Kvothe shows us his mind hasn't dulled in the years in Tarbean.Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.PS: I F***ING LOVE IT

  13. 20

    Episode 18: Chapters 33, 34, and 35

Tonight we are diving into Chapter 33: A Sea of Stars, Chapter 34: Yet to Learn, and Chapter 35: A Parting of Ways.We get a first love as sweet as strawberry wine, Kvothe kisses a man's wife (figuratively), and we would add a few more people to the list of good people in Tarbean, except we aren't in Tarbean anymore.PS: Follow the sevens!

  14. 19

Episode 17: Coppers, Cobblers, and Crowds

Tonight we are diving into Chapter 32: Coppers, Cobblers, and Crowds.Okay, okay, I think that makes about six good people in Tarbean. Kvothe prepares for his journey to The University, and we get a truly emotional farewell. Pull up a log and join us around the fire as we break it all down.PS: We love you Trapis, even if Matt has some odd ideas about you.

  17. 16

    Episode 14: Chapters 24, 25, and 26

  18. 15

    Episode 13: The Burning Wheel

Tonight we are diving into Chapter 23: The Burning Wheel. In tonight's reading we learn about Tehlu (no known glowing appendages) and Encanis.
