First Testament Survey

This course begins with developing an understanding of the culture of the ancient Near East, which is necessary to understand the culture of the Bible. Then it takes you verse by verse through the narrative books of the Old Testament and a summary of the wisdom literature and prophets. The goals of the course are, first, to give the student a deeper cultural and theological understanding of the Bible. The second is to help the student understand the narrative themes of these books and how they fit into the greater metanarratives of the Bible as one story of Yahweh’s redemption of humanity and creation.
