FTGG EP. 15: I thought I was healing...BUT I was distracting myself
This episode of ForTheGreaterGood is so foundational to the people we are, and have been working on.It is for the people who look like they’re healing on the outside… but deep down know they’ve been staying busy to avoid themselves. In this honest and reflective conversation, we unpack what “false healing” can actually look like—the packed schedules, constant self-improvement, endless goals, distractions, routines, and even the ways we hide behind the language of boundaries while quietly avoiding our thoughts and emotions. We talk about the difference between busyness and real inner work:One keeps you outward and moving. The other asks you to sit still long enough to confront what’s unresolved.Because healing isn’t always productive-looking, sometimes it’s slow; sometimes invisible.Sometimes it’s simply being honest enough to admit that you’ve been performing growth instead of allowing yourself to truly feel.In this episode, we explore:• Why stillness feels so uncomfortable• The emotional weight silence brings to the surface• How distraction can become a coping mechanism• What real healing actually requires from us emotionally and mentallyTogether, we reflect on difficult but necessary questions:Where in your life are you busy… but not actually healing? What are you avoiding by staying in motion? And if you sat with yourself—without distraction, without performance—what truth would finally rise to the surface?Because sometimes the hardest truth is this:you’re not stuck…you’re just finally still enough to see what’s been there all along.Breathe.

FTGG Ep.13: The War Within, The War Outside
A real thought-provoking dialogue unfolds in this episode especially relevant in the current human state and existence climate we are in.In this episode, share in the dialogue on while wars are framed through politics, borders, and strategy, who really pays the costs?- Human lives; families, generations who must live with its consequences.Together with Uzo, we explore many questions that might have gone unmasked in headlines to reflect on the toll of current times. We discuss how conflict shape families, the invisible wounds societies carry forward, and whether wars between nations mirror unresolved battles within humanity itself. It won't be a ForTheGreaterGood episode if we didn't self reflect, we did ask ourselves of this possibility: if peace begins with individuals what responsibility do we each carry in shaping the world we live in?Enjoy this reflective conversation about power, humanity, and the possibility of beginning again.

From over-giving and people-pleasing to proving our value through sacrifice, we unpack how approval can become confused with connection. We examine a shift from conditional love to authentic intimacy through a few questions. How did we learn that love required effort instead of presence? What changes when we stop proving ourselves? Why can receiving genuine love sometimes feel more uncomfortable than chasing it?We hoped to have found our thoughts and feelings on learning how to soften, to receive without guilt, and to exist in relationships where being ourselves in enough. FTGG Ep.6: Self-Acceptance and Self-Cultivation
What are we really searching for when we say we’re searching for "self"?A heavy, and monumental question on the quest that is life...What do we search for in the words of finding self, living authentically, or self-discovery, as if who we are is something lost, waiting to be uncovered. Consider this, what if the self we adventure to seek isn’t something we find… what if it’s something we slowly create? In this episode, we explore the tension and tenderness between self-acceptance and self-cultivation—two ideas that can feel contradictory, yet may be deeply intertwined. We reflect on the pressure to “figure ourselves out”.Does this conversation feel so urgent in the season of life many of us are living right now?Uzo and Shanel sit with questions like:What are we really searching for when we say we’re searching for self? Can we accept ourselves as we are while still choosing to grow? Can self-acceptance and self-cultivation exist at the same time—or do they pull us in opposite directions?Do we become who we are through our relationships with others, or in separation from them? It's an arrival point to see the idea that just maybe who we are isn’t existence hidden or lost, but one shaped, tended to, and cultivated over time.Explore these questions for yourself, and maybe in a conversation for anyone navigating becoming—without needing to arrive, fix, or perform their way there. This episode's conversation invites a softer understanding of becoming—one that allows for both acceptance and growth, without urgency or self-rejection. It’s an episode for anyone navigating their sense of self in this season of life and wondering how to honor who they are while still allowing themselves to evolve.

Episode 36: What’s Ending with Us
Choosing Self and Pursuing Healing – Reflections on "It Ends With Us" We saw the movie *It Ends With Us* inspired bu the book of the same name by Colleen Hoover, and having many things hit home for us, we decided to do an episode focused on a movie review. It shares a blend of reflection on the story, the similarities in our own story, and practical advice for you our listeners while empowering those who may be in similar situations. To open the episode, we provide a summary and core story themes of the movie: Lily’s love story with Ryle, the unraveling of his abusive behavior, and her reconnection with young love, Atlas. We saw the story as a portrayal of the complexities of love and abuse coexisting in a relationship. Main Thoughts and Questions: - What did we see Lily’s do on her emotional journey as she comes to terms with Ryle’s violent behavior, despite their initial love and connection. - Taking the courage it takes to acknowledge abuse, especially when love is involved, as seen in Lily’s internal struggle. - Real-world parallels: why it is difficult for many to leave abusive relationships, and the societal or emotional pressures that often prevent it. - Choosing Self Over Toxic Love: Lily’s decision to prioritize her well-being and that of her child over her love for Ryle- our own decisions to choose our selves. - We empathize the importance of self-worth and how choosing oneself is an act of reclaiming power in the face of manipulation and control. - What did beginning that healing journey that Lily embarks on after leaving Ryle look like? - Breaking free from an abusive relationship can set a powerful example for others, especially children, about self-worth and boundaries. Closing Thoughts - Closing reflection on Lily’s story as an inspiration for anyone facing the decision to leave a harmful relationship. - A reminder to listeners: Healing is possible, and choosing self is an act of reclaiming life and future.
