In this week’s episode of Frank and Amhara discuss and review Bong Joon Ho’s dark comedy science-fiction film Mickey 17 (an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey 7) and Steven Soderbergh spy thriller Black Bag (written by David Koepp). Mickey 17, set in the future, follows Robbert Pattinson’s titular Mickey, who, to escape his debt to a powerful and sadistic loan shark, hastily signs up for a planetary colonisations mission, led by Mark Ruffallo’s Buffoonish ‘Kenneth Marshal’.  Unfortunately, the position he unwittingly signs for is that of an ‘Expendable,’ which involves being ruthlessly experimented on and deployed on suicide missions, only to be indefinitely ‘reprinted’ following death. Black Bag is a conversation focused spy thriller (starring Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett and other actors). They are finally back! Its your old friends Frank and Amhara, and they're here to review Richard Linklater's new Netflix romcom 'Hit man.' The film follows Gary (Glen Powel), a University psychology and philosophy professor, and a part time undercover cop. In his newly appointed role as an undercover cop, Gary posses as hitmen in sting operations to solicit muder for hire confessions. Gary invitably falls for Madison (Adria Ajorna) who hires his alter ego 'Ron'. And the two form a twisted relationship of alter egos, serial killer fetishing and gaslighting. They agree that its a well made film well suited for casual homeviewing. But Frank argues its tonally boring and even a little bit cringe. Whereas Amhara thinks its lighthearted tone creates a fascinating juxtaposition to its rather twisted tale.
