Friday Freak Zone
by Raglan Community Radio
Growing up in Liverpool, England in the 1950's and early 60's, Paul was very much influenced by the music he heard around him as a boy. Moving to New Zealand in 1966, at the height of the British musical invasion of the world he was delighted to find that the music scene he thought he had left behind in England was just as strong in NZ, but with the added bonus of hundreds of local bands just getting started. Bands such as Tom Thumb, Human Instinct, Underdogs, Ticket, Highway, La De Das etc. Paul considers himself lucky to have emigrated at such a momentous time in musical history, as he was able to enjoy the best of both worlds. On the Friday Freakzone you can hear anything from the 60's psychedelia, 70's progressive rock, folk and blues, 80's post punk, through to the present day, and always an ear out for the quirky and unusual.
