Garbage Day: Midnight Movie Mayhem

After a bit of catching up, we talk at length about Dutch angles and the usual nonsense associated with any discussion of this film before transitioning into a conversation about the perpetually unsatisfying breadcrumbing that takes place in modern media, and ultimately, how to accept your own death.

Ralph & Nick & Zak will be back soon to continue the fifth season of Garbage Day: Midnight Movie Mayhem, but to tide over anyone who just wants to listen to two of the voices you're used to hearing, we're unearthing a classic episode of Zak's other movie podcast, But Why Do You Like It? in which our own Nick Rice talks to Zak about their mutual love of 1997's Alien: Resurrection and all its goopy glory fun. The 3 fellas will be back soon with brand new episodes, but for now, enjoy an oldie but (very) goodie!

We watched a classic this time, gang. It was technically a box office bomb though. So we had a good excuse. Subjects include influence being the THING in our current culture, whether or not the Glengarry guys are "a type of guy", good movies that are hard to like, resetting Instagram suggested content for your mental health, creation in the age of algorithms, etc.

The fellas have a wonderful time talking about one of the best movies about rollerblading from the year 1993. (We really do though. Favorable reviews from all of us. I know you don't believe this right now, but we loved it.)

The fellas have a brief chat about what they've been up to lately before talking about a quintessentially cult movie called Samurai Cop. A film about a wig.

We're back to end our season very shortly before beginning another one! What are seasons anyway? They're lies. Anyway, we talk about the 1966 Batman film based on the television show of the same name.  You may know the franchise. Personally, we are split on whether or not it's good. Zak and Nick say no. It's Episode 50! This is a special episode where we watch a movie called "BAT MEN". It was made by a Mr. Tim Burton in the year 1989. That's when it was released. It was probably made before then. Nobody knows. Is this a cult movie? We have conflicting views on it at the show and it is very likely to come up in the next episode. For now, cue up the movie and watch with us. It was a lot of fun.

The boys kick off season 4 with a little chattaroni about the Hulk Hogan/Vince McMahon-penned fever dream "No Holds Barred". Amazingly, no one impersonates JR at any point, even though I'm sure that's what you wanted. "Always leave them wanting more." We take a quick dive into an absurd fan theory that 'They Live' was inspired by the Mario Bros. arcade game before moving on to the insanity of uh, the entire world? Also, brief discussion of what the future of the show looks like.

The fellas examine Brandon Lee's iconically goth big break/swan song and have some good things to say about it. Some less good things as well. This is the last episode of the season. Ralph and Nick are joined by special guest Michael Lastname to discuss one of Michael's personal favorites: 1998's dystopian sci-fi film, Dark City. How many movies is it similar to? A lot. Is it still good? We'll tell you, obviously.

Zak is MIA this week. Not the musical artist famous for "Paper Planes" and middle fingering the entire earth at the Super Bowl. He's not here, is what I'm saying. So, we have our friend Matt (resident Verhoeven superfan) come on the show to talk to us about boobs.

The boys consider the classic 'They Live' and ponder the greatness/weirdness that is the team of Roddy Piper and John Carpenter.

The fellas (all three this time) talk about the 1997 creature feature Anaconda. Is it bad? Yes. Is it boring? Also yes. Is the snake... kind of not that snake-ish? That's correct. Also, a thought-provoking "Would You Rather?" near the end of the show.
