GARVIES
by GARVIES
It was a Red Moon back in 1975, an alien spaceship crash-landed in a field outside of Johannesburg. A small blob of goo was ejected from the foreign inter-stellar vehicle and splashed against the belly-button of a beautiful young South African woman. She didn't shower that night as she was considering becoming a hippy. A few months later GARVIES was flushed into the ocean where he lived on fish & seaweed until his teenage years. One very bright sunny morning he was seen by an elderly man with a cane walking his dog on the beach, emerging from the rocky shore-break on The Bluff with nothing but a shitty warped Spanish guitar with some goo on it. He was later reported seen skateboarding the mountainous downhills of the N2; various sightings in J-Bay & some in Hermanus. There were rumors he was seen playing bass in & around Cape Town. There were reported sightings in London & Newquay (England) in the late 1990's and more recently in Toronto & Vancouver, Canada.

Matador in a Masquerade (Mastered)
Daz wrote this song way back in the Cape Town days when he was a tad depressed. We have brought the song back. Its a little different, this one.. Pretty gnarly lyrics, not for the faint-hearted! Check out Carina's double-bass with bow action, epic stuff! Co-produced with our friend John Marks with a few first takes here in Tofino, BC, Canada. Matador in a Masquerade: What do you see when you look around? The clowns in town make me frown like I’m hearing a bad sound.. From the present to the past & back for more, to take me up and make me soar through the almighty aurora.. but my feet are still on the ground and I’m strolling though town, in my white gown, my golden slippers look like flippers as I flip through history’s pages. Sages in cages throughout the ages. What really happened to Bob Marley? I’ve been so down & out, I’ve ben so down & out. I’ve been so down that I’ve wanted to die. But I know that all of us have been here before but I know that I’m lying here right down on the floor because all of a sudden, I feel like a Matodor in a Masquerade. Out riding my Harley, got stung by two B’s Unchained by B.B. Kings keys, flung open The Doors His Majesties eyes, his demise was a sad surprise Why are all our kings are dead? Its no mystery to me. Chilling with my subtle friends & its crowded in here. Whose the killer? TV? Bureaucrazy? Adam & Eve’s family tree, wrapped in serpentine? The crystal snake’s mesmerising lies, live on CNN.. Holy fuck have I got news for you; Jesus was like you & got killed by the same crew, the ever-fearful masses, me & you.. I’ve been so down & out, I’ve ben so down & out. I’ve been so down that I’ve wanted to die.

Mother Garvies
This song is a dedication to my mother Kim Collins (Roberts), who passed away on 30 June 2016 at the age of 58. She was born in 1958. The second time the cancer came knocking, we held it at bay with cannabis oil for a while before it finally got her. She was so brave, she went on national television with her story about the Phoenix Tears: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG3FTE0J_JY We will always love you Mom. We will make you proud down here. <3

01 Starling (feat. John Marks)
This is The Good Life (Mastered), our first batch of recordings from the last ten years, in the pitch of A=432Hz. The songs are all completely different so its hard to categorize them, they are mostly midi experiments that turned into full tracks over the years. They're now performed by the full rock band & sound completely different live. We will be recording the new sound over the next few months, for a taste of the band as a 3-piece, check out our Live At Crab Apple Floral playlist.. You can find this album on iTunes if you'd like to support our band. Thanks! Peace, Daz.

01 Intro Jam
GARVIES played as a 3-piece at Crab Apple Floral in Tofino on 12 September 2015 with Daz on an acoustic steel-string guitar & vocals, Carina on bass & Nick on drums.. The rhythm section was on fire! The crowd was beautifully warmed up by Bousada & Butterflywingtip before us. These are the first six tracks we played, unfortunately we didn't manage to record the second half of the set. This was by far our skankiest show so far!
