After recently making his debut on Pan-Pot’s Second State, Amsterdam based producer Tahko makes his way onto Secret Cinema’s Gem Records imprint. His double A-sided EP for the Dutch label is one of the must-hear techno releases of the month. Tahko is exploding onto the international techno scene with gigs at Tresor, Tomorrowland and Welcome To The Future Festival. His productions are on-point which is catching the ear of A&R’s and paving his way to becoming a top producer. Emotional, energetic techno from the heart. A multi-instrumentalist and former live jazz and classical organ player, Christopher Kah always brings a high level of musicality to his electronic productions. Christopher’s own words about title track Jahria: “This could be number one in my top 5! I really love it, this track is a complete trip into my universe. The title was immediately obvious to me. Jharia is a city in India where a huge underground fire has been burning continuously for more than 80 years. It is located above a volcano. The images are impressive and the atmosphere fits this track perfectly! He rose to fame with Richie Hawtin supporting his every release. He is an audio engineer and teacher and that reflects in his music. His Gem Records EP has a futuristic approach to dynamics with synths sticking out above mix, giving those raw sounds the energy in the mix instead of the usual kick drum. Gem Records return with an excellent three tracker by Stefan Weise. It is the first Ep from the Italian born Colorado resident since his critically acclaimed ‘The Tales We Tell Our Children’ album. The Prodigal Son is a nod to Steve Rachmad’s ‘Son of Norma’ (released as Norma G in 1993). Dutch techno in the nineties was a big inspiration to Stefan Weise. His Gem Records EP is written as a homage to the music that came from the Netherlands in that era. Unlike most dancefloor music producers, Weise enjoys to be surrounded by tranquil nature instead of the big city. He built his studio by hand in the basement of his Colorado mountain house. “ It’s beautiful, serene, relaxing… The perfect work environment for me. It’s only you and nature with no distractions.” From this restful place came Stefan Weise’s Prodigal Son EP which is set to disrupt the peace on any dancefloor exposed to it. Extremely funky and powerful with a meticulously sculpted and smooth low-end which according to the producer is achieved with dynamic EQing and the right sonic spacing.
