Dan Wants to Talk About The Bender Family
Send us Fan MailImagine it, 1870's Kansas! More specifically, 1870's South Eastern Kansas.....so basically South Eastern Kansas today. You're on your way out West when you stop at what could be the last place to gather supplies and get a hot meal before the adventure beyond civilization. The bad part is that it may be the last place anyone ever sees you alive. Meet The Bender Family! A group consisting of Ma, Pa and two "kids" that managed to kill at least 11 people and some speculate as many as 20. That's just the story that Dan wants to talk about on this episode. This and a whole lot more on this week's brand new episode of Gettin' Sidetracked!

Dusty Wants to Talk About Fake Patty's
Send us Fan MailStarting back in 2007, the week before Spring Break has had a special tradition around the town of Manhattan, KS. In an effort to not miss out on the festivities of the actual St. Patrick's Day, a young man (or group of men depending on who you're talking to) decided to get together with some local bars and start a new holiday. Thus, Fake Patty's Day was born. A day long celebration of drinking and general debauchery that Dusty wants to talk about. The guys are past their prime when it comes to the celebration but they used to be young. So join the guys as they discuss some of their past experiences and maybe some advice for anyone wanting to check it out for themselves. That and so much more on this week's episode of Gettin' Sidetracked!

Dan Wants to Talk About Behavioral Experiments
Send us Fan MailWho thought that conditioning a young child to be terrified of anything white and fluffy could have any long lasting side effects? Well, pretty much anyone really if you think about it. That didn't stop someone from sciencing the hell out of it anyway. This as well as a few other "fun" behavioral experiments are what's on Dans mind this week. From an innocent conformity test to some not so innocent instances of making someone believe they are actually issuing out corporal punishment for wrong answers just because they were told to. Like I said, fun! All of this and a whole lot more on this weeks episode of Gettin' Sidetracked!

Send us Fan MailCome with me and you'll be in a world where grown men spend almost an hour talking about candy. You heard right! David wants to talk about his and everyone else's sweet tooth. From Snickers and Butterfingers to Twizzlers and Sweet Tarts, the guys will probably talk about one of your favorites at length. Find out what candy Davids family loves but he hates, Discover where Dan sits on the whole "Sweet Tarts vs Sprees" debate. Be confused by Dusty's illogical disdain for Mounds and Almond Joys. Dusty Wants to Talk About Baseball Movies
Send us Fan MailCause it's 1....2....3 strikes you're out at the movie theater. Wait. That's not how it goes. Right? Either way, we all know Dusty is the movie guy but he likes sports too. This week, he managed to find a way to talk about both. There have been countless movies made about sports but baseball in particular has found its way into cinemas countless times. Join the guys while they talk about as many of them as they can fit into one episode. From Major League to A League Of Their Own, they get through quite a few. It's a real home run of an episode. Okay, I'll see myself out now.

Dan Wants to Talk About Butt Rock
Send us Fan MailYou might not be familiar with the term but trust me. You are definitely aware of this sub genre of rock. The term was originally coined from a radio station. As in, "We don't play anything BUT rock". This style of music includes some favorites such as Breaking Benjamin, Creed, Poison, 3 Days Grace and many, many more. What do all of these bands have in common? You'll have to tune in to find out. Taken from a lost episode from over a year ago, the guys try to give it another go with this week's episode of Gettin' Sidetracked!
-

David Wants to Talk About The Donner Party
Send us Fan MailIt's been pretty cold around here lately and it got David doing some thinking. Could he survive out in the wilderness during the cold? Hell no! Then he got to thinking about some other people that couldn't make it either. Namely a pretty big chunk of The Donner Party. We're getting just a little dark with this one. Join the guys as they discuss some of the terrible luck that these people experienced leading up to their eventual date with history and cannibalism. The worst road trip any of the guys have ever been on doesn't hold a candle to this one. All of this plus Planet Comicon, dying while shoveling snow and so much more on a brand new episode of Gettin' Sidetracked!

Dusty Wants to Talk About The Last Of Us
Send us Fan MailA cordyceps strain mutates and starts jumping to humans, taking over their bodies and turning them into savage creatures intent on spreading the infection at all costs. That already seems like a cool idea for a video game but then you go and add characters and a story inside this world that absolutely blows you away from start to finish. That my friends, is the recipe for an amazing game experience. That experience is what Dusty wants to talk about today. From both part 1 and 2 of the games and even into the HBO series, the guys will go over why they care so much about these characters and this story. Come on a cross country trip (on foot mostly) and join us for our discussion about The Last Of Us.
-
108
Dan Wants to Talk About The Lake Bodem Murders
Send us Fan MailNot to brag or anything but the guys totally solved an almost 70 year murder that took place in Finland. Seriously though, we're as clueless as anyone when it comes to this strange case that took place alongside a Finnish lake. Join the guys for a little exploration and a lot of joking. Remember, we don't take things seriously. Like, ever. So join us for a brand new episode while we take a stab in the dark. Get it? Stab? I'll see myself out

David Wants to Talk About Energy Drinks
Send us Fan MailWhen a cup of coffee isn't strong enough but it's too early in the day for meth, go for the next best thing. Energy drinks! David is a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to the different varieties and he brought his knowledge to the show. From Red Bull (which doesn't actually make you fly) to Monster (turns out you CAN get a hangover from these things) to Rockstar and NOS, we'll go over some of the more known and less well known kinds and go 1000 miles per hour while doing it. Pop that tab, take a big drink and lets get ready for a very high paced episode of Gettin' Sidetracked!

Dusty Wants to Talk About Future Tech Movies Got Right
Send us Fan MailFrom the earliest sci-fi films to modern day blockbusters, movies have a tendancy to try to predict what the future holds. This is especially true for technology. On this week's episode, Dusty wants to talk about some of the tech that the movies just so happened to get right. From tablets to Dick Tracy watches, the guys will cover quite a few marvels that a lot of us take advantage of every day. Bust out your hoverboards and AR glasses and join us on a trip to the future.....and then we'll bring you back.....from the future. Don't hold that joke against us. The actual podcast is a lot funnier. Promise!

Dan Wants to Talk About Frivolous Lawsuits
Send us Fan MailWe've all heard a story or two in our time. Someone sets their cruise control in a Winnebago and goes to take a nap, sues the manufacturer when they end up crashing and getting a few million out of it. Or a burglar breaks into someone's house and cuts their hand in the process, sues the homeowner and walks away rich. While those stories aren't necessarily true, the ones that Dan wants to talk about this week definitely are. Were they frivolous? We'll let you be the judge. See what I did there? All of that, David'a slow nightmare of a bathroom remodel and a visit to the Oddities and Curiosities Expo and so much more on a brand new Gettin' Sidetracked!
-
104
David Wants to Talk About Streaks
Send us Fan MailIn sports, streaks can mean one of two things. Either you are really good at something......or REALLY bad. On this week's episode, we're gonna try to stay focused on the positive for the most part. Unless you are a KU fan and in that case, sorry not sorry. David wants to talk about some memorable streaks in sports including K State's current win streak against in-state rival KU in football, Cal Ripken's consecutive games streak, Julio Cesar Chavez's win streak in boxing and so much more. For all of you non sports fans, don't worry. We don't get too sporty and we're all still just as dumb as ever. So join us for a look at some streaking. Wait, I worded that wrong. Or did I?

Dusty Wants to Talk About Stephen King
Send us Fan MailIt's Halloween! Our first episode to actually come out on the holiday and Dusty is taking full advantage. For starters, we wanna know what some of your favorite costumes were in the comments below. We begin the episode just about the general festivities of what is arguably the best holiday of the year but then we dive into the real meat of the episode. Stephen King is a name that is synonymous with horror. One of the most prolific writers of our time, he has had countless adaptations of his work done over the years. On this week's episode, Dusty wants to talk about a few of his stories. From the books themselves to some of the different tv series and movies, the guys will cover a little bit of everything. Once you're done trick r' treating, turn off all the lights and make sure to lock all the windows and doors. It's time for Gettin' Sidetracked Halloween!

David Wants to Talk About Mel's Hole
Send us Fan MailI know what you're thinking. With a title like that, half of it is probably just butt jokes. That couldn't be further from the truth. It's actually more like 3/4. David stumbled across an urban myth and decided to educate the guys on the story of Mel's Hole. Calling into "Coast To Coast AM" in 1997, Mel shared his story with listeners across the nation of a strange, bottomless hole located somewhere on his property in Washington state. Measuring roughly 9 feet in diameter, he claimed the hole had been known about for generations and that the government had even come to do environmental tests. What's weirder is that no one else has ever been able to find the hole. Oh, and he found another one in Nevada. All of this and a whole lot of worm holing around many other topics, join the guys on this week's brand new episode of "Gettin' Sidetracked"!

Dusty Wants to Talk About Halloween
Send us Fan MailIt's that time of year again! The air is getting cooler. The days are getting shorter. Halloween is right around the corner. Dusty wants to talk about it. Not the holiday itself. Today, we're talking about Michael Myers and the iconic Halloween horror franchise. While the series has experienced many highs, it has certainly had its fair share of lows as well. On this episode we're gonna cover a little bit of everything. From its humble independent roots to the global phenomenon that it is today, explore some of the history of the franchise that gave birth to the modern slasher and gave a new name to the Boogeyman. All this and so much more on this week's brand new episode of Gettin' Sidetracked!

From a trial about someone that dared to teach evolution to a Tennessee classroom to one of those giant metal balloons taking its maiden voyage and more. Join the celebration as we bring you our 100th episode on this week's Gettin' Sidetracked

David Wants to Talk About TV Sitcom Spinoffs
Send us Fan MailSpinoffs have been around almost as long as tv itself. David has a list that includes some of the most successful ones.....and some of the not so successful ones. "Joey" is on one of the lists. We'll let you figure out which one. From "After M.A.S.H." and "Top of the Heap" to "Frasier" and "The Jeffersons", we'll go through quite a few. For instance, most of the hosts didn't realize "N.C.I.S." was a spinoff of "J.A.G." If you didn't either, you're in good company AND you need to tune in and pay attention cause David is gonna learns ya.
