Downhill from Here - Comments and Resources on the US Presidential Elections

GPPW's Moritz Borchardt comments on recent events in the United States presidential race such as Donald Trump's prediction of problems caused for Hilary Clinton by her proximity to Anthony Weiner, Wikileaks, the holy grail for third party candidates and the future of the cooperation or cohabitation between the White House and the US parliament. Cross-Atlantic Ed. - Updates on the Dem. Rep. Congo, Canada, Germany and Mars

At long last, GPPWlive crosses the pond and Moritz Borchardt is joined by GPPW's very own Tom Lee to talk about world affairs. We catch up with events in Congo and Canada, cover bombs in East-Germany and get positively excited about Elon Musk's plan to get humanity to Mars. Finally, we close out the episode with our take on this Monday's debate between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton.

Demonstrations as Happenings - or: the anti-far-right protests in Erfurt, Germany on Sept 21st, 2016

Autumn is the demonstration time of the season for far-right groups in Germany, so GPPW's Moritz Borchardt joined a counter-demonstration and - as there is little drama to report - shares some thoughts about the idea of demonstrations as happenings without much interaction between demonstrators and counter-demonstrators. Also: you can find us on iTunes, podcast addict etc. now. -Yay! :)

Good News and Bad News - Numbers and Comments on the state-level elections in Berlin, Germany

The September 18th elections in Germany's capital city and city-state of Berlin proved that the far-right Alternative für Deutschland can get double digits even in the country's city with the highest amount of foreigners. Further, a continuation of the current Social-Democrat government with Angela Merkel's Christian Conservative party was rejected and , made a left wing coalition from Social Democrats together with Die Linke and the Green party. GPPWs Moritz Borchardt takes a look. Please find the data provided in the podcast here: https://wahl.tagesschau.de/wahlen/2016-09-18-LT-DE-BE/index.shtml

Numbers and Comments on the 2016 state elections In Mecklenburg Vorpommern

The September 4th state elections in Germany's North-eastern most state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Mecklenburg_Western Pomerania) brought what many perceived as a political upset when the Alternative for Germany (AfD) became the second biggest group in parliament, beating Angela Merkel's Christian Conservatives into third place. GPPWs Moritz Borchardt takes a look. Please find the data provided in the podcast here: http://wahl.tagesschau.de/wahlen/2016-09-04-LT-DE-MV/index.shtml

Germany Update - Angela Merkel and her party under pressure from the far-right in local elections

GPPW's Moritz Borchardt gives a quick update on party politics in Germany, especially with regard to the pressure Angela Merkel's Christian Conservatives face from the far right in form of the 'Alternative for Germany' in local elections. While doing so, he completely forgets which coalition governs the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which is -of course- a coalition of Social Democrats and Christian Conservatives under the leadership of social democrat Erwin Sellering. Our apologies to the people of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it was late and the last coffee was just a distant memory.
