04.14.2026Sermon SummaryThere are certainly common experiences that we are all guaranteed to walk through in life. One we do not choose, but somehow finds all of us is suffering. If life is consistent about one thing, it’s delivering hard circumstances for us to walk through. The prevailing question, especially as disciples of Jesus, is, “Where is God in suffering?” In addition, a series of questions often arises as we face adversity: Why does God allow this? Why am I going through it? What am I supposed to do with suffering? Is this part of God’s plan for me? There are thousands of others, but no matter the question, when we think of suffering, humanity, and God's involvement, we are drawn to the book of Job. 04.08.2026Sermon SummaryOnce a year, people across America pack the church. For many, it’s a glorious day of crowds, beautiful outfits, full stomachs, and busy calendars. But for Jesus, seeing His Church filled is a reminder, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21 We are not tasked with filling seats, but with the more difficult privilege of filling our hearts with Truth. That Truth is a person, and He sets us free. Not everyone is willing to have their hearts open, transparent, and vulnerable before God, living in true authenticity. That’s the call in Luke 7: the woman who came to Jesus, pouring out not only an alabaster jar of perfume but her whole life to experience the love of God in His forgiveness. All of us are at different points in our faith and seasons of life; we are walking through different things and facing different challenges. However, the Word calls us to consider putting the interests of others above our own. When others are rejoicing, we are instructed to rejoice with them. If they are suffering, be with them in their suffering. For when one suffers, we all suffer, and when one member rejoices, we should join in. At any point, there are two groups in our family: those who rejoice and those who weep. Date 09.11.2026Sermon SummaryAs we continue the Vision and Mission series, we are discussing the second facet of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. The first aspect of a disciple is to ‘strengthen yourself in the LORD,’ and the second is to ‘manage your household.’ To manage your household means to be present and active in your personal relationships, seeking their good over your own. The picture we get of a well-managed home goes all the way back to Eden in Genesis. Eden was a place where humans were immersed in God’s Presence, where life was cultivated and multiplied. This same picture is given in today’s home, so we can manage our own greenhouses. Greenhouses have gardens, where each represents individual relationships to maintain and tend the soil. The nutrients in each garden require us to maintain healthy levels of water, fertilizer, seeds, air, and light. This week, we are looking at the identity and function of the Church. As we examine the story of Gideon in Judges 6-8, we find a small remnant of 300 people who form an army that defeats their enemies, numbering 135,000, in a decisive yet unorthodox victory. This is the picture of the Church: we are at war against the principalities and rulers of this world, not with human weapons but with those that dismantle strongholds. When we get together, a small group can see a massive multiplication effect in our cities because there is little that can stop the Church. It’s only the absence of godly men and women that allows evil to triumph. The Church is a force to be reckoned with when we come to a full understanding of our true identity, built on revelation and formed to heal, prosper, and build cities. 12.15.2025Sermon SummaryOur tendency is to read the Bible as if we are the main character. We read it to affirm what we already know, infer our own presence as the hero of the story, and get our ego stroked by false affirmations. Instead, the Word offers another function in reading: it trains, it equips, and it shapes like fire and a hammer. The story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 may be better titled if the focus is not on us, but on God. It’s a story about a father who recklessly loves his two sons. He showers the one with unrestrained celebration and offers all he has to the other as an excessive act of mercy. 09.18.2025Sermon SummaryThis weekend, we gathered in anticipation to see our hearts fully set free and living in breakthrough. Jesus came to set our hearts free, and we tend to take Him at His Word. We made space to grieve, let our hurting hearts have space to mourn, and most importantly, connect them to a God who will restore us. As we looked through the book of Lamentations, it paralleled much of what we are seeing today: a city that is in ruins. As Jerusalem was in physical ruins, the spiritual condition of our cities is being destroyed by the slow erosion of sin. There is order to Lamentations' structure, just as there is in our lives, but in the middle of our routines, we are interrupted with pain and disorder that sin brings. Yet in the middle of this poetic and well-ordered book, there is a heart cry of Truth. In 3:22-24, we are reminded that in the middle of the pain, God's steadfast love never ceases. It’s truths like this that our hearts need to wait on, to listen intently to, so that in chapter 5, we can live out verse 21. Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may be restored. 08.21.2025There is an ancient orientation of our hearts that sometimes gets lost in all the good works we do. It’s the central desire of our hearts. It’s the deepest longing of who we are to simply be with Jesus. We are strengthened in the LORD by spending time with Him, not just hours on end like a monk, but by taking the attention of our mind and our heart throughout the day to be turned towards God. When we pay attention to who He is and what He is doing, it allows our hearts to burn again. The love that we had at first often gets stifled by an increase of knowledge; let's return to our first love, stirring our hearts in response to all that God has done. 06.12.2025Sermon SummaryComfort is killing our courage. The book of Nehemiah describes a massive transition that he went through from the comfort of the palace into the thick of the challenges of rebuilding. Nehemiah left the complacent yet lush culture of being an assistant to the King of Persia and went to a desolate city in ruins, all because he wept over what God put in his heart. The church finds itself in a similar season of shedding security to rise up and build our city. Renewal of our city comes out of the burden of revival in our hearts. We must leave the comforts that have led us to be dormant and stoke the fire of God again to hear His agenda for our city. We are called to use both of our hands—battling with one hand, building with the other. 06-05-2025Sermon SummaryDuring this Baptism Weekend we’re looking at Acts 8, which tells the story of an unexpected encounter between Philip, an Ethiopian diplomat, and the Holy Spirit. To this point in the diplomat’s life, he’s never been welcomed into the inner circles of worship. But during this life-changing chariot ride, he learns that there is nothing about him that disqualifies him from relationship with Jesus, and after he confesses belief in Jesus, he is joyfully baptized as an outward declaration of an inward transformation. 05-29-2025Sermon SummaryIn the fast-paced, calendar-driven world in which we live, it is imperative that Jesus’ followers intentionally leverage creative ways and means to engage our cities. And sometimes the creativity required is simply a “reset”—a “back to the basics” mentality that boldly declares that there is no law against loving our families, neighbors, co-workers, employers, and employees well with the consistent, clear-eyed vision that this is what Jesus calls us to do. A desire and genuine hunger for the things of God in people’s lives are being stirred up. This revival that’s coming, which we are seeing glimpses of, is unlike what we have encountered before. It’s not characterized by mass gatherings but by decentralized, scattered pockets showing up in cities, not stadiums. Jesus had a strategy for carrying revival–discipleship. The question is, where will this revival take place? The answer? In cities, not auditoriums. This isn’t a new plan, but the original plan restored.
