”Great in the Sack”: When Misogyny Leads to Mayhem

Don’t let the name of the podcast fool you...it’s a passive-aggressive poke at the way women seem to be viewed by society: expendable objects to be utilized and quite literally ended, if a perpetrator so chooses..that’s the message that I GET from the lack of action over the entire world, within our societies to protect women and girls. Let’s face it: femocide is on the rise. If you’re anything like me, then you know how important it feels to witness the stories within these cases. To be able to identify patterns of misogyny in our own lives is empowering and can also make us feel more prepared. We will be discussing crimes that include honor killings, intimate partner violence, war crimes, anti-abortion violence..all things caused by misogyny. My hopes are to educate everyone on a safer society because EVERYONE lives in society. I’m neurodivergent af and am doing this podcast alone. Sometimes episodes are late, but i’m doing my best to get them out every other week!

Ep. 18 - The Evolution of Exploitation: The cases of Marita Verón & Kristen Galvan

Human trafficking has a long history. It began with what we know as slavery, but as the world changed, the structure of exploitation evolved to fit that environment. When most people think of modern sex trafficking, they might pictture the movie Taken, where a victim is physically snatched off a public street by strangers...and in real life, it can look exactly like that. But thanks to the things like social media, it has also adapted. Decades ago, the internet existed, but it wasn't literally in our pockets, and the predatory behaviors of social media apps hadn't yet been born.               In this episode, we look at 2 distinct  eras and 2 cases from those eras to compare and contrast the traditional and modern faces of sex trafficking. First, we examine the traditional method, through the lens of adult sex trafficking in Argentina, where Marita Verón was kidnapped in broad daylight by a powerful, mafia-run syndicate. Then, we pivot to the adapted, digital version of child sex trafficking in Texas, exploring how fifteen-year-old Kristen Galvan was  targeted and coerced through her Instagram feed.      While the entry points are completely different - one a physical car on a street, the other a smartphone screen - the internal realities are terrifyingly identical. We discuss the techniques of sex-trafficking, from drugging and isolation to physical, psychological, and emotional abuse.   Show notes:   Resources & Global Directives: Safe, confidential support is available worldwide. Global Directory (190+ Countries): GlobalModernSlavery.org European Network & Safe Housing: La Strada International (lastradainternational.org) US National Hotline: 1-888-373-7888 (Text "HELP" to 233733)   Sources:   https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdtx/pr/documented-gang-member-sent-prison-sex-trafficking  https://gahtmo.org/unseen-bonds-the-link-between-past-slavery-and-modern-human-trafficking/  https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/mar/24/meta-new-mexico-jury  https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2026/apr/06/investigation-exposed-child-sex-trafficking-on-facebook-and-instagram-meta  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07sjgr1  https://www.britannica.com/biography/Pablo-Escobar https://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/argentina-jewish-white-slavery  https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias/2012/04/120402_argentina_caso_marita_veron_una_decada_vh  https://charleyproject.org/case/kristen-marie-galvan  https://www.unidiversidad.com.ar/la-periodista-sibila-camps-repasa-la-trama-oculta-del-caso-marita-veron  https://www.fiscales.gob.ar/criminalidad-economica/caso-marita-veron-declaro-la-chancha-ale-en-la-causa-por-lavado-y-asociacion-ilicita/#:~:text=Caso%20Marita%20Ver%C3%B3n%3A%20declar%C3%B3%20%E2%80%9Cla,por%20lavado%20y%20asociaci%C3%B3n%20il%C3%ADcita  https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/crime/article/houston-rapper-aryion-jackson-sex-trafficking-17786263.php

Ep. 17: Online "rape academies" & the digital age of misogyny

In this episode, we investigate the wild intersection of systemic  violence against women & girls, and modern technology. We begin with the landmark Gisele Pelicot case in France, breaking down the court proceedings involving the 50 co-defendants and analyzing the digital hunting ground & website used to facilitate mass abuse. From there, we make the connections of just how these patterns repeat across emerging tech frontiers. We examine the weaponization of everyday consumer tech like smart glasses, the alarming rise of AI-generated non-consensual deepfakes, and the targeted global mechanics of online grooming & sextortion. Finally, we zoom out to a sociological perspective to talk about how the pop culture of the last few generations primed society for this current digital age of misogyny.   Show notes: [email protected] www.tiktok/@greatinthesackpodcast  www.instagram.com/g.i.t.s.podcast  https://bsky.app/profile/greatinthesackpod    SOURCES: #341: Korea’s Nth Room: 260k Men Paying to Violate, R*pe, and Torture Middle School Girls On Telegram - Rotten Mango | Podcast on Spotify #342: Korean College Student Forces 100 Girls To Mutilate Themselves On Camera LIVE For His Chatrooms - Rotten Mango | Podcast on Spotify #386: New Nth Room: Middle Schoolers Deepfake Videos Of Mom, Sister, Classmates In "Humiliation Room" - Rotten Mango | Podcast on Spotify 'A rapist can be in the family': how Dominique Pelicot became one of the worst sexual predators in history | Gisèle Pelicot rape trial | The Guardian 'Girl on Girl' explores pop culture's impact on women | PBS News Weekend" (URL: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/girl-on-girl-explores-pop-cultures-impact-on-women  'Meta glasses are being used to secretly film women and girls – my app is fighting back' | The Independent How's Life for Children in the Digital Age?, OECD Publishing, Paris, https://doi.org/10.1787/0854b900-en  "90s Bitch: The Paradox of Progress and Bitchification" (Book Excerpt: 90s Bitch: Media, Culture, and the Failed Promise of Gender Equality by Allison Yarrow, Harper Perennial, 2018) "A French woman whose husband is accused of inviting men to rape her testifies in court | KPBS Public Media" https://www.kpbs.org/news/international/2024/09/06/a-french-woman-whose-husband-is-accused-of-inviting-men-to-rape-her-testifies-in-court  "AI-GeneratedDeepfakesandGender-BasedViolenceExploringtheTechno-FeministChallenges.pdf" (Citation: Benjamin, Matthew. Ep. 16: The CIA's Iran-Contra Affair, the crack epidemic, & the women who paid the price

The War on Drugs didn’t start in the streets; it started in the shadows of the offices of the CIA. This episode traces the timeline from the late 70s up through the late 90s, connecting the dots between anti-communist funding in Central America, the Middle East, & the sudden influx of crack cocaine into black communities in America. We’re also peepin' the exact moment the Second Boland Amendment went into effect..and how, as the CIA searched for alternative funding for the Contras, the streets began to change. We are discussing the crimes of Oliver North, Gary Webb's brave af reporting, and the biological warfare of "pseudoscience". We also talk about the extremely damaging articles that manufactured the "bio-underclass" myth to justify the lack of resources and the systemic abandonment of the very communities the state helped destabilize. By the time we get to the late 90s, the trap was already set, and waiting to be triggered. When you look at the outcomes of the crack epidemic, it becomes clear who was at fault, who was targeted, and who won.   This is the final episode to the witch-hunt series...for now ; )   **SHOW NOTES**   Socials:  https://www.tiktok.com/@greatinthesackpodcast  https://www.instagram.com/g.i.t.s.podcast  https://www.bsky.app/profile/greatinthesackpod.bsky.social    Sources: Behind the Bastards Cracktoberfest episodes:  https://youtu.be/MT6lnjIVWOE?si=-psWolEJFyTZib2H  https://youtu.be/UoqC9av2DcA?si=yN9uFQIDQuFm9pRo  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DKko0WCOgI&t=18s  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjOnWFLq_Os https://youtu.be/4F3IwLDZ1ss?si=vI5T9UopMoCf41x8    https://webhelper.brown.edu/cheit/Understanding_the_Iran_Contra_Affair/    https://allthatsinteresting.com/gary-webb    https://www.britannica.com/topic/intersectionality    https://www.britannica.com/event/Iran-Contra-Affair    https://fair.org/extra/the-myth-of-the-crack-baby/    https://www.jstor.org/stable/48750576?seq=1    https://archive.seattletimes.com/archive/19920114/1470264/new-research-explodes-crack-babies-myth    https://embryo.asu.edu/pages/ferguson-v-city-charleston-2001    https://www.splcenter.org/about/    https://www.aclu.org/news/reproductive-freedom/victory-regina-mcknight-case    https://scienceinsights.org/what-is-a-crack-baby-the-term-the-myth-and-the-truth/    https://feminist.org/news/woman-convicted-of-stillbirth-remains-in-jail/#:~:text=On%20Monday%2C%20the%20United%20States,to%2020%20years%20in%20prison.    https://www.britannica.com/topic/crack-epidemic  https://www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/Documents/Issues/Women/WG/DeprivedLiberty/Others/Human_Rights_and_Gender_Justice_Clinic_at_CUNY_School_of_Law_and_others-3.pdf

Ep. 15: Witchhunts pt. 4c - FBI EXPOSED by leftists!

So, how did COINTELPRO finally come undone? In this episode, we trace the program’s collapse through the interconnected movements of the late 1960s and early 1970s...from the New Left and anti–Vietnam War protests, all the way to women’s liberation, the Catholic Left, and the American Indian Movement. By examining all that went into the FBI's cointelpro operations, such as surveillance, infiltration, and internal fractures, the episode shows how state appointed crimes created lasting harm both externally and within activist spaces themselves, culminating in the Media, Pennsylvania burglary and later, the Church Committee’s revelations.   Socials: www.instagram.com/@g.i.t.s.podcast.com https://bsky.app/profile/greatinthesackpod.bsky.social www.tiktok/greatinthesackpodcast.com    Sources:   Medsger, Betty. Ep. 14: Witch Hunts pt. 4b - COINTELPRO & its attack on the Black Panther Party

*Content warning** political violence, racism, and brief mention of suicide.   *A FEW VERBAL MISTAKES*: at 2 occasions I referred to the BPP's early name as the "Black Panther Party OF Self Defense" & "Black Panther Party of Defense" which is incorrect. It should have been said, "Black Panther Party for Self Defense"...sorry-sometimes my mouth has its own plan  -_-   Hi there,  listeners! This episode examines the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s campaign against the Black Panther Party under the secret so-called "counter-intelligence program" known as COINTELPRO. Through different people's accounts, we trace how a community-based organization that provided free breakfast for children, health clinics, and sickle-cell testing became one of the government’s most hated, highest-priority targets.      The discussion follows the founding of the Party, its social programs & the FBI’s tactics of infiltration, surveillance & what is referred to as “snitch-jacketing,” which culminated in the raid that killed Illinois chairman Fred Hampton in 1969. We weigh out why the Party’s vision of independence: feeding, educating, and protecting their communities, was perceived as a danger to the political establishment...spoiler: when marginalized groups begin to see the system as unnecessary, the patriarchy doubles down.      This installment also marks the near conclusion of the Witch Hunt series’ exploration of COINTELPRO. After the conclusion of COINTELPRO, there will be one last episode (i think!) of the witch hunt series regarding a few '90s tropes and demonizations. Then my usual case-per-episode will resume...cases that reveal how power-imbalances and patriarchy can have devestating consequences. Ep. 13: Witch hunts (yes, still), part 4.a - Getting the band back together

H-Hey guys 😅 I know, I know…it has been a REALLY long time, and on top of that I keep finding more things to add to 'The Many Faces of Patriarchy' witch hunt series that I've been working on here most recently (possibly to some of your dismays)! I hope you all don't mind my side quests..after all, colonialism,  authoritarianism, misogyny…they all come from the same place. I just can't stop seeing how MUCH history rhymes.       Last episode, we left off at the lavender scare, with promises for this episode to deliver the so-called "black scare"…to which I am delivering (a part of, as you can see by the 4.a, because I plan to get 4.b out within the week-I PROMISE! It's already nearly done!).      In this episode, we begin by tying the present political violence of America to it's past, which includes the June 2025 assination of democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman. We then enter into the main part of the episode: the creation of the Counter Intelligence Program. We find that Hoover is up to his old tricks again, including surveillance & illegal operations..but this time he kicks it up a notch, with help from his FBI. Yep, he's getting the band back together, meaning he is widening his sights to include groups considered “other” from parts 1, 2, and 3 of this series.  That's right, Hoover's COINTELPRO begins by aiming to further oppress so-called communists & socialists (surprise!), people of color, feminists, Native Americans, AND MORE. Basically, anyone demanding equal rights. This episode will mainly focus on cointelpro's attack on Martin Luther King Jr.      So let's take a little trip into the past, so we can better connect the reasons of how tf we got where we are today. I guess some people think it's boring to learn from history's most horrendous mistakes…    socials:  www.instagram.com/g.i.t.s.podcast www.tiktok.com/@greatinthesackpodcast www.tiktok.com/@neurodivergentfeminist  www.bsky.app/profile/greatinthesackpod.bsky.social        Sources:   https://www.britannica.com/topic/Black-Panther-Party    https://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/disp_textbook.cfm?smtID=3&psid=3632    https://www.history.com/articles/martin-luther-king-jr-fbi-j-edgar-hoover-communism    https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/federal-bureau-investigation-fbi     https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fifth%20column#:~:text=lum%5C%20%E2%80%A2%20noun-,:%20a%20group%20of%20secret%20sympathizers%20or%20supporters%20of%20an%20enemy,unjustly%20blacklisted%20as%20Communist%20sympathizers    https://www.mprnews.org/story/2025/06/17/the-timeline-of-events-leading-up-to-and-following-boelters-attacks    https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/12/us/politics/charlie-kirk-shooting-firings-celebration.html https://scholarsarchive.library.albany.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1017&context=lacs_fac_scholar

Ep. 12: Witch Hunts pt. 3 - Surveillance State: Red Scare, Lavender Lies

It's PRIDE MONTH! In pt. 3 of "Witch hunts never go out of style: the many faces of patriarchy", we explore the history and impact of the First and Second Red Scares, alongside the lesser-known but deeply more consequential Lavender Scare. Through a feminist lens, we will take a look at how anti-Communist and anti-LGBTQ campaigns intersected with broader patterns of state surveillance, moral panic, and social control in mid-20th century America. The episode traces how these government-led efforts affected not only political dissenters and artists but also disproportionately targeted queer individuals and other marginalized groups, such as people of color. The next episode will feature the black scare, AKA cointelpro-I didn't want to cram it into this episode, because I wanted to make sure to spend enough time on each of these damaging, tragic moral panics which were waged against those who were seen as "other", or deemed less than.      While primarily historical in focus, the discussion draws brief parallels to contemporary dynamics of power, identity, and civil liberties.   Show Notes:   Kady Grass' gofundme: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-kady-grass-after-brutal-attack    The Trevor Project is the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention nonprofit organization for LGBTQ+ young people. Ep. 11: Witch Hunts pt 2- Salem, hysteria, eugenics, oh my!

In Part 2 of our series on witch hunts and patriarchy, we pick up at the decline of the European witch trials..starting with the end of the English (Anglican) prosecutions and moving through the infamous hysteria in Salem. From there, we explore how the so-called Enlightenment ushered in new systems of control under the guise of reason and progress. If this era was truly "enlightened," why did the transatlantic slave trade not only continue, but expand? This episode asks what we choose to see as civilized—and what, or who, we are willing to sacrifice to maintain that image. We then trace the enduring legacy of accusation, punishment, and control into colonial Africa, where European powers exported witchcraft panic as part of their imperial toolkit. From there, we transition into the rise of modern medicine and the medicalization of women’s bodies...where midwives and healers were replaced by male-dominated institutions, and into the development of eugenics as a tool to justify social hierarchies and racial "purity." We end with the Nazi regime’s calculated use of ableism, psuedoscience and gendered violence to define who was worthy of life, & who was not. This episode connects centuries of persecution, "progress," and power, revealing how patriarchal systems evolve, but never disappear. In part 3 (and quite possibly part 4), we will be starting with the McCarthy era, including the Lavender Scare, up through the "crack-baby" myth and the Welfare Queen trope, to the current status of the DEI pushback...worldwide, not just in the United States. Ep. 10: Witch Hunts Never Go Out of Style: The Many Faces of Patriarchy pt 1

From the witch trials in Valais, Switzerland, to the coerced confessions of Pendle and Salem, this episode uncovers the long arc of misogyny cloaked in religious fervor and legal authority. We trace how accusations of heresy & witchcraft can come as a result of moral corruption and political instability — and have been wielded to control women, the poor, the different, and the defiant throughout history. With voices lost to fire and rope, and others silenced by shame or forced to flee, this isn't just a story of the past. This is a ritual the patriarchy never quite stopped performing. In part 2, we follow this ritual as it evolves—from the Puritan gallows to the propaganda of Nazi Germany, from Cold War suspicion to today’s backlash against inclusion. The targets may change, but the hunt remains the same.   [email protected] www.instagram.com/@greatinthesacktruecrimepodcast  www.tiktok.com/greatinthesackpodcast www.tiktok.com/neurodivergentfeminist    show sources: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-21/girl-brutally-tortured-in-png-after-accusations-of-sorcery/9168876 https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/australasia/women-witchcraft-papua-new-guinea-b1863343.html  https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/cambridge-history-of-latin-american-womens-literature/women-cronistas-in-colonial-latin-america/5E27EA2D8B80D9441CA470E3CCD21F1F  https://www.thecollector.com/inquisition-cases-colonial-mexico/  https://kids.britannica.com/kids/article/Ferdinand-and-Isabella/353119  https://www.thoughtco.com/european-witch-hunts-timeline-3530786#:~:text=The%20European%20witch%20hunts%20lasted,and%20more%20susceptible%20to%20witchcraft.  https://www.irss.uoguelph.ca/index.php/irss/article/view/5801/5957  Kieckhefer, Richard (2013). Ep. 9: Kalashnikovs and Co-leadership: the road towards the Rojava Revolution

This week on Great in the Sack: When Misogyny Leads to Mayhem, we unpack a revolution born in the wreckage of war...where colonial borders, religious authoritarianism, and patriarchal power COLLIDE! And when these power COMBINE..sorry, almost did the beginning to Captain Planet. Anyway, somehow out of that collision, a feminist experiment began to breathe. Welcome to Rojava, up in the northeastern part of Syria, where TONS of Kurdish women took up arms against ISIS...risking their lives to basically keep the rest of the country..even the rest of the world safe. They were a group of soldiers formed out of the radical philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan, a former Marxist turned jailed Kurdish thinker. Rojava’s political model, democratic confederalism, is a rejection of both Western imperialism and religious authoritarianism. Power is decentralized. Ethnic divisions are challenged. And women are co-chairs, commanders, lawmakers, and rebels. Every council is led by one man and one woman. Every major decision is filtered through a lens of gender equality. But this revolution is a direct response to decades of betrayal. Colonialists carved up Kurdistan, denying the Kurds a homeland and pushing them into the margins of nation-states that treated them as problems. Add to that the rise of armed Islamist groups enforcing Sharia law with an iron fist, and you get the perfect storm for what is to come in this episode. We explore the tension between Islamic fundamentalism and female autonomy, how the Rojava model challenges both capitalist modernity and sectarian domination, and why this revolution, still very much under siege from every which way but loose, may be one of the most important feminist stories of the 21st century.   Red Crescent Rojava: https://hskurd.org/en/    Emergency aide for Rojava: https://heyvasor.com/en/2024/12/03/emergency-aid-for-rojava/#pll_switcher      instagram.com/@greatinthesacktruecrimepodcast  tiktok.com/greatinthesackpodcast [email protected]   show notes: https://www.hrw.org/report/2009/11/26/group-denial/repression-kurdish-political-and-cultural-rights-syria?utm_  Conflict Between Turkey and Armed Kurdish Groups | Global Conflict Tracker  https://hawarnews.com/en/mother-of-martyr-hevrin-khalaf-my-daughters-killers-are-stillroaming-free    https://youtu.be/cMfJRnWu52Y   Wayback Machine   Timeline: The Kurds’ Long Struggle With Statelessness  https://nypost.com/2024/03/30/long-mistreated-by-iraq-the-kurds-need-americas-attention-now/?utm_source=chatgpt.com   Turkey: Facing a New Millennium: Coping With Intertwined Conflicts, Amikam Nachmani, p. 210, 2003   Turkey Claims That Syria's Kurds Are Terrorists. Ep. 8: The Real-Life Serena Waterford: How Phyllis Schlafly Betrayed Women like Selena Maria Chandler-Scott

In this episode, we track the rise of Phyllis Schlafly-—the woman who weaponized housewife aesthetics and femininity to bulldoze the Equal Rights Amendment and hand America the long-term consequences we're still living through, and we will discuss a bit of that 2nd wave feminism. We follow the feminist heroes of the early 1970s—Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Brenda Feigen, Shirley Chisholm, and others—as they fought tooth and nail for the ERA, only to be blindsided by Schlafly’s grift in pearls: STOP ERA. You’ll hear how Schlafly mobilized fear, fundamentalism, and good old-fashioned misogyny to convince women they didn’t need rights—just a pie in the oven and a man in charge. We head into the chaos of the 1977 National Women’s Conference in Houston—slaps, slogans, and sabotage—before pivoting to Reagan’s rise, the GOP’s courtship of the religious right, and how Schlafly helped lay the groundwork for Trumpism. We’ll show how Schlafly’s fingerprints are all over today’s anti-abortion fanaticism, with stories like that of Selena Maria from Tifton, GA—a terrifying reminder of what happens when women’s healthcare becomes collateral in a culture war. But we end with resistance. You’ll hear about state-level ERAs, Senator Gillibrand’s push to make the ERA the 28th Amendment, and what you can do to help. Because the future of bodily autonomy and equality isn’t dead—it’s just waiting for us to wake the hell up.   Show notes/sources:   (Selena's go fund me)--> https://gofund.me/69868b43    IG.com/@greatinthesacktruecrimepodcost    [email protected]   youtube.com/greatinthesacktruecrimepodcast   Also follow: IG.com/@abortionfluencer for important activism!         https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/1977-conference-womens-rights-split-america-two-180962174/?utm_source=chatgpt.com    https://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-phyllis-schlafly-snap-story.html    https://journals.openedition.org/rrca/1226?lang=en#tocfrom1n1    https://www.jezebel.com/georgia-police-jailed-woman-for-miscarriage-performed-autopsy-on-miscarried-fetus    https://www.thecut.com/article/why-a-georgia-womans-arrest-after-miscarriage-is-disturbing.html    https://meidasnews.com/news/georgia-woman-arrested-after-disposing-of-miscarriage    https://www.tifton.net/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=151&utm_source=chatgpt.com    https://web.archive.org/web/20150402093633/http://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/pregnancyloss/conditioninfo/Pages/risk.aspx    https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/04/01/georgia-woman-miscarriage/    https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2020-04-29/mrs-america-phyllis-schlafly-gay-son-brenda-marc-feigen-fasteau    https://vtechworks.lib.vt.edu/server/api/core/bitstreams/b7fc60f4-9a5d-449a-858e-67afebd21dcc/content    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roe_v._Wade#:~:text=On%20January%2022%2C%201973%2C%20the,Texas's%20abortion%20ban%20as%20unconstitutional.    https://www.historyextra.com/period/20th-century/suffragists-suffragettes-difference/    https://web.archive.org/web/20120214143336/http://www.colorado.edu/AmStudies/lewis/2010/declare.htm    https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2020-05-14/mrs-america-fx-hulu-bella-abzug-margo-martindale    https://www.womenshistory.org/education-resources/biographies/phyllis-schlafly?utm_source=chatgpt.com    https://www.nytimes.com/1979/03/23/archives/rights-plan-foes-celebrate-its-difficulties-with-a-gala-award-for.html    https://www.americanprogress.org/article/the-era-solidifies-womens-rights-in-the-constitution-as-the-28th-amendment/    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/09/phyllis-schlafly-feminist-troll/498737/?utm_source=chatgpt.com  https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/17/joe-biden-equal-rights-amendment?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Ep. 7: Incel/ ideology pt 2: Inceldom explained- the case of Tres Genco

Episode 7 – Inceldom Explained: The Case of Tres Genco **CONTENT WARNING** DISCUSSIONS OF SELF EXIT, AND MASS SHOOTINGS-USE DISCRETION WHERE AND WHEN YOU LISTEN.   A growing subculture of disaffected men has turned their anger into a violent ideology. Incels—short for “involuntary celibates”—believe they are entitled to sex and that women, and society at large, are to blame for their isolation. While many incels remain behind keyboards, some take their hatred into the real world. Tres Genco was one of them. Inspired by past attacks, he stockpiled weapons, wrote a manifesto detailing his violent fantasies, and planned a mass shooting targeting women. He was caught before he could act, sentenced, released… and then arrested again. His case would  reveal the dangerous escalation of his own inceldom- from an online OBSESSION to real-world violence. In this episode, we’ll break down Genco’s crimes, the psychological and social factors that drive incels toward extremism, and the triad of risk factors that can help identify when someone is on the path to radicalization.   Show notes/sources: Office of Public Affairs | Ohio Man Pleads Guilty to Attempting Hate Crime | United States Department of Justice    Office of Public Affairs | Ohio Man Charged with Hate Crime Related to Plot to Conduct Mass Shooting of Women, Illegal Possession of Machine Gun | United States Department of Justice    Parental Investment Theory (Chapter 7) - The Cambridge Handbook of Evolutionary Perspectives on Sexual Psychology    Ohio 'incel' who plotted to kill women at college is sentenced to 6 years in prison   Intervening in Problematic Research Approaches to Incel Violence, Men and Masculinities | 10.1177/1097184x231200825 | DeepDyve   Self-described Ohio 'incel' sentenced to 6 years behind bars after planning to kill sorority girls in manifesto | Blaze Media    Interviewing I*cel Expert William Costello    The Truth About Incels | Novara Media   Incel Convicted For Planning Attack | Dangers of Unwanted Celibacy | Tres Genco Case Analysis    The woman who founded the 'incel' movement   Incels, violence and mental disorder: a narrative review with recommendations for best practice in risk assessment and clinical intervention | BJPsych Advances | Cambridge Core    United States v. Ep. 6: Which came first..the incel or the ideology part 1: The Story of Ayşenur Halil and İkbal Uzuner

When 19-year-olds Ayşenur Halil and İkbal Uzuner were murdered by Semih Çelik  in October 2023, the public was left grappling with a question: Was this the act of an incel, a narcissist, a psychopath—or something even more insidious? In this episode, we break down the disturbing timeline of events, from Semih's growing obsession with İkbal to the deadly deception that led both young women to their tragic fate. We examine the role of misogyny, extremist online communities, and whether incels are truly an isolated group or just a symptom of a much deeper societal disease. As we analyze CCTV footage, online activity, and Semih's final moments, we ask: Does it really matter what label we give him? Or is the real issue the violent entitlement that keeps claiming women's lives? Join us as we dissect the psychology, the ideology, and—most importantly—the reality of what happened to Ayşenur and İkbal. Because if we don’t confront the roots of misogyny, the cycle will never stop.   ig.com/@great_in_the_sack_podcast   [email protected]   WE WILL STOP FEMICIDE PLATFORM: WE ARE LEARNING, EXPLAINING AND EXTENDING THE STRUGGLE FOR ENGLISH    Anıt Sayaç : Şiddetten Ölen Kadınlar İçin Dijital Anıt    https://balkaninsight.com/2024/10/09/turkey-blocks-access-to-discord-online-platform-citing-child-safety-concerns/    https://www.haberturk.com/semih-celik-olayi-nedir-cinayeti-neden-isledi-ve-ailesi-kim-ikbal-uzuner-ve-aysenur-halili-katleden-semih-celik-kimdir-3727857/4    https://medyascope.tv/2024/10/08/ikbal-uzuner-ve-aysenur-halili-olduren-semih-celikin-ailesinin-ifadesi-alindi-olay-gunu-neler-yasandi/    Bates,   Laura, Men Who Hate Women, Laura Bates' Book 'Men Who Hate Women' Exposes Manosphere, World Of Incels : NPR    https://freedomhouse.org/explore-the-map?type=fiw&year=2025     https://www.medipol.edu.tr/en/news/medipol-students-remembered-aysenur-halil     https://www.sabah.com.tr/trend/galeri/yasam/son-dakika-katil-semih-celiki-babasi-anlatti-odasinda-insani-korkutan-seytani-figurler-sabah-tum-detaylara-ulasti     https://t24.com.tr/yazarlar/candan-yildiz/aysenur-halil-in-abileri-konustu-kardesim-icine-kapanik-biriydi-neden-gitti-tehdit-mi-edildi-santaj-mi-yapildi,46675#google_vignette     How One Man got Discord Banned in Turkey...

Ep. 4: The story of Nina Aouilk, and honor-based violence

Born into a world where daughters are seen as burdens and honor is worth more than a girl's life, Nina Aouilk grew up trapped—first by her family's expectations of servitude, then by forces far more sinister. From surviving trafficking as a child, to being forced into marriage, and ultimately escaping what her culture referred to as an honor killing, Nina's story is one of resilience in the face of unspeakable cruelty. But she refuses to be a victim. In this episode, we unravel the brutal reality of so-called "honor-based" violence, exposing it for what it truly is: a weapon of control, masked as tradition. Through Nina’s journey—from her childhood dreams of freedom to her fight for justice—we confront the uncomfortable truths behind cultural silence, generational trauma, and the battle to break the cycle.   Nina Aouilk is skilled in her ability to coach people, a skill she developed as a result of her very difficult upbringing. She coaches MMArtists, and boxers, and different folks alike. Ep. 3: The story of Holly Newton

At just 15 years old, Holly Newton had her whole life ahead of her—until Logan MacPhail decided she wouldn’t. In this episode of Great in the Sack: When Misogyny Leads to Mayhem, we unravel the brutal reality of intimate partner violence among teenagers. Logan wasn’t a stranger, a lurking danger in the shadows. He was Holly’s ex-boyfriend, a boy she once trusted—until control turned to obsession, and obsession turned deadly. Through the chilling timeline of Holly’s final day, we examine the red flags that were ignored, the systems that failed to intervene, and the terrifying truth about how young IPV escalates into violence. How did a teenage relationship turn into fatal possessiveness? And why do we still struggle to take coercive control seriously until it’s too late? This isn’t just Holly’s story. It’s a warning. Trigger warning: This episode discusses stalking, coercion, and graphic violence. Listener discretion is advised.

ABOUT THIS SHOW
