Motherhood, Grace, and the Stories We Don’t Always Tell
Mother’s Day is often presented as simple: flowers, cards, brunch, sweet posts, and celebration. But for many women, Mother’s Day brings grief, longing, estrangement, regret, complicated family history, or the ache of someone missing from the table. In this episode of Grit and Grace Podcast with Tonya Bruton, we talk honestly about the complexity of motherhood and the grace of God in the unfinished places.Tonya reflects on the pressure many women feel to live up to the image of the “perfect mother” or the perfect Christian woman, including the way Proverbs 31 has sometimes been used as a measuring stick instead of encouragement. She also talks about mother wounds, forgiveness, boundaries, estranged adult children, mothers separated from their children, grief, miscarriage, infertility, grandmothers, aunties, spiritual mothers, and the God who comforts what family could not fully reach. The heart of this conversation is simple:Mothers do not just need applause.Mothers need grace.Companion blog: www.tonyabruton.com/blogPrayer requests and connection: www.tonyabruton.comStory submissions: [email protected]

Cara’s Story: Medical Trauma, Faith & Grace
In this deeply personal episode of Grit and Grace Podcast with Tonya Bruton, Tonya sits down with her daughter, Cara, for an honest mother-daughter conversation about medical trauma, faith, motherhood, and learning to trust God through fear and uncertainty.Cara shares pieces of her story — the pain, emotional strain, fear, exhaustion, and spiritual growth that can come with walking through medical trauma. Together, Tonya and Cara talk about what it means to keep showing up when life feels heavy, and how God’s grace can meet us in the middle of suffering. This conversation is especially meaningful as Mother’s Day approaches, because it reflects the love between mothers and daughters, the strength built through hard seasons, and the kind of faith that is often formed in waiting rooms, hospital rooms, and moments we never would have chosen.Medical trauma can leave deep emotional and spiritual marks. It can affect how we see our bodies, our relationships, our motherhood, and even our faith. But this episode is also a reminder that grace is not found in the absence of struggle — sometimes grace is found in the strength to keep going.Tonya also pauses during this episode to introduce a prayer request opportunity through her website and prays over listeners who may be walking through medical trauma, anxiety, grief, health struggles, addiction recovery, depression, or a painful season of their own.At the end of the episode, Tonya introduces a new recurring segment: Real People, Real Stories of Grit and Grace, featuring Lisa Creswell’s testimony. If you have walked through medical trauma, chronic illness, pregnancy-related fear, motherhood struggles, anxiety, grief, or a season where trusting God felt hard, this episode is for you.Scripture reflections mentioned in this episode:Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”2 Corinthians 12:9 — “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”Paul’s words in Philippians remind us that “I can do all things” was written in the context of enduring every circumstance through Christ’s strength.Read the companion blog post:www.tonyabruton.com/blogSend in a prayer request or connect with the podcast:www.tonyabruton.comIf this ministry has encouraged you and you would like to support the podcast, you can give through Venmo: Tonya-Bruton.Thank you for listening to Grit and Grace Podcast with Tonya Bruton — a Christian podcast sharing real stories of faith, healing, addiction recovery, mental health, motherhood, and God’s grace in the middle of real life.

Practice the Pause: Anger, Pride & the Holy Spirit
This episode is different. No script. No outline. Just a real, unfiltered conversation—recorded live while sitting on the floor, Bible open, painting, and processing in real time.Over the last few days, I’ve been dealing with anger—losing my temper, feeling justified, thinking it was anxiety…But God showed me something I didn’t expect. It wasn’t anxiety. It was pride. In this episode, we talk about what it really means to grieve the Holy Spirit—not in some distant or dramatic way, but in the everyday moments where we react instead of pause.📖 Key Scriptures:Ephesians 4:26–32James 1:20Proverbs 16:32Proverbs 29:11Proverbs 17:27–28Psalm 141:31 Peter 2:231 Peter 5:8Romans 8We unpack:• Why human anger doesn’t produce God’s righteousness• How pride fuels our reactions• What “be angry and sin not” actually looks like in real life• How reacting in the flesh gives the enemy a foothold• Why the pause is not self-control—it’s surrender✨ The Pause Practice:Identify the triggerTake a 3-second breath prayerAsk: “Lord, what does love look like here?”Respond led by the Spirit—not your emotionsThis isn’t about managing your anger better. It’s about letting the Holy Spirit lead you in the moment.📝 Companion blog (deeper reflection):👉 https://www.tonyabruton.com/blog💛 Support the show:👉 Venmo: Tonya-BrutonIf this episode spoke to you, share it with someone who needs it.

Identity in Christ: Why You’re Still Struggling (And How Truth Sets You Free) | Cameron Garner
What if the reason you’re struggling isn’t spiritual attack — but misplaced identity? In this powerful episode of Grit & Grace Podcast, Cameron Garner joins Tonya Bruton to unpack what it really means to live from your identity in Christ. Too often in the church, identity is taught intellectually — but not lived practically. The result? Grace for Motherhood | Faith, Loss, Mental Health & God’s Sufficient Grace
Motherhood is sacred — and it is also complicated. In this deeply personal episode of Grit & Grace Podcast, I open my heart and invite listeners into a conversation shaped by decades of motherhood, loss, faith, and God’s sustaining grace. For 33 years, I raised children in my home. I am the mother of seven living children and one precious baby in heaven, who passed away at three months old on Mother’s Day in 1997. I also raised children with chronic illness, navigated years as a young and often single mother with little support, and carried the weight of generational mental health struggles. For many years, Mother’s Day was painful for me — filled with grief, resentment, and unanswered prayers. But through journaling prayers, pouring out my heart to God, and walking daily through uncertainty, I encountered the unbelievable grace of God in ways I never expected. As Scripture reminds us:“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”— 2 Corinthians 12:7–10In this episode, I share how God gave me enough grace to mother children with vastly different needs — and how humility before Him (James 4:6) became a lifeline. At 23:15, my husband Josh joins the conversation as we reflect on our journey raising triplets, walking through postpartum depression, and my first mental health diagnosis of bipolar disorder — and how God remained faithful through it all. This episode is for anyone who loves motherhood, struggles with it, grieves through it, or feels unseen within it.✨ Subscribe to Grit & Grace Podcast for faith-based conversations about mental health, trauma, healing, and hope.🔗 More episodes & resources:👉 https://www.tonyabruton.com

Dennis McClung is the founder of Grace Path, a nonprofit ministry dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel through creative content, discipleship, and outreach. In this episode, the overarching biblical theme is hope. The key scripture is Jeremiah 24:4. Even in exile, there remains a path for spiritual renewal and reconciliation with God. After losing everything and becoming homeless, Dennis encountered the life-changing love of Jesus. Healing Through Stories with Barbara Lane
In this episode with one of my top 5 favorite guests Barbara Lane tells the incredibly moving true story of 11 children given up to the foster system where they endured all sorts of abuse and neglect and Barbara's journey to finding not some but all of her lost siblings to be reunited again. Rev. Barbara Lane integrates her life experiences into her writing. By sharing her own personal journey, Barbara destigmatizes the fate of child abuse survivors, leading her to write "Broken Water." In addition to her 25-year service in private practice as a ministerial counselor, Barbara’s educational background in human development, social sciences, and family psychology with a focus on child abuse, inspires her to share her expertise on interrelated issues: the family, family separation, the foster care system, attachment and bonding, child maltreatment, relationship formation, the resilience of the human spirit, healing from trauma, and the power found in having faith in something greater than the self. When not writing, you will find Barbara enjoying nature, reading, swimming, playing sports, people watching, and story writing. She especially enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. How To Avoid Spiritually Bypassing Suffering with Mike McInerney
Mike McInerney is my special returning guest and Station Manager at www.truthseekertexasradio.com. Mike is a Pastor, runs a benevolence ministry, runs the Safe Place in Decatur, TX where he operates as a biblical counselor. Mike has also authored several books and many articles that can be found on his website mikemc.org. "Spiritual bypassing" refers to the act of using spiritual beliefs or practices to avoid confronting and dealing with unresolved emotional issues, psychological wounds, or personal challenges, essentially using spirituality as a way to sidestep difficult feelings rather than working through them healthily; it's considered a form of avoidance mechanism. Join us as we discuss how not to use our faith to evade a trial that may be ordained by God. We discuss how to stay authentic in our faith as we endure a trial and how to appropriately respond to others going through sufferings or trial.

Jason Tuttle Special Needs Grief from a Father's POV
Jason Tuttle is a father of 2 kids with multiple physical and cognitive disabilities who lost his 15 year old special needs son suddenly and unexpectedly on 01/28/22. He has a compelling story to help show triumph over adversity in the special needs life over the last 18 years as well as on this lifelong grief journey that he is now on. Jason created a Facebook blog on grief called, Letters To Zachary, where he shares his raw, unfiltered, transparent, non-sugar coated emotions from a father's/male's perspective. This page started the day that he lost his son. It chronicles the utter devastation he has felt from the start of the grief journey through the evolution to today where he has created a following to help others along the grief journey as he continues to learn to navigate the grief life. The ultimate goal of the "Letters To Zachary", is to help men to understand that it is OK to be vulnerable to share their heartfelt emotions on grief and devastation. It is a safe space created to let men come in and to express themselves in a judgment free environment. Tabitha believes we comfort others with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (AND I LOVE THIS ABOUT HER👉), She does not minimize, nor does she spiritually, bypass suffering.
