Gutting the Sacred Cow

Gutting the Sacred Cow invites guests to argue why some of the most financially successful, beloved or acclaimed films are trash or overrated. But here's the twist, the film must meet 1 of these criteria: widely beloved, financial success, or critically acclaimed. Standup comedians Kevin Gootee and Kevin Israel love films and they love arguing about them.. But will they agree with their guests arguments or feed them into a wood chipper? We give a platform with those who have unpopular opinions to be bold enough to voice them. What are some films that have faced scrutiny: Back to the Future, Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, the Dark Knight, Toy Story, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the Matrix, and Die Hard. Can the guests persuade us or do we rip them a new one? Give us a listen and we'll easily prove that we belong on any top movie podcast list. We throw plenty of fun segments in the mix: 5 fun facts, our readers have us ask our guests questions they'd like answered in "Ask a Gutter"

Close Encounters of the Third Kind BANISHED to Area 51 by Chris Woolsey Episode 217 GTSC podcast

Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001 A Space Odyssey arere probably the most influential science fiction films of all time. Chris Woolsey from Crackle returns to take on arguably THE most influential, iconic, and copied sci-film of all time, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Spielberg lover Kevin Gootee invited fellow fanboy Kevin Israel back for another round of, "Is this Gutter's argument foolish or are they making sense?" Alex Hooper PRESSES RESET on Edge of Tomorrow episode 216 GTSC podcast

The GREATEST action hero in the last 25 years is without question, Tom Cruise, had a rare underperforming film with Edge of Tomorrow. It underperformed so much in North America, they changed the title to Live, Die, Repeat which was the title of the Manga comic book/graphic novel/whatever you nerds call it. Alex Hooper loves Tom Cruise films as well as Emily Blunt (and who doesn't?) but he doesn't love the lack of pretext and disjointed plot. Cruise superfan and Mission Impossible lover, Kevin Gootee, LOVED this film when it came out. Does it stand the test of time unlike his marriage to Katie Holmes, Mimi Rodgers, and Nicole Kidman? Faithful back massager Kevin Israel straps on a mech suit and gets ready for some grab ass good times. The guys discuss where Emily Blunt ranks on the list of female ass kickers/action heroes. And of course, an abundance of Tom Cruise jokes flow. Lastly, the trio lament if Catherine Zeta Jones arching through laser beams was an acceptable excuse for Michael Douglas to get HPV in the throat. Thanks for having with us every week and time for a small favor: tell a friend why you love this podcast. Do you think Alex Hooper threw enough shade at Edge of Tomorrow? Why Donnie Darko donnie SUCKOS according to Phil Ranta episode 212 GTSC podcast

Why is Donnie Darko so beloved and why does Phil Ranta feel it's unjustly revered??We're back and Phil Ranta returns to assail one of the most recently beloved cult classics, Donnie Darko. Phil gets on a soapbox and methodically elucidates why this Jake Gyllenhaal and Maggie Gyllenhaal time travel movie ain't no Back to the Future. Phil explains why Frank the rabbit completely screws up the space time continuum, why this movie sends a terrible message to teens with suicidal thoughts, what the hell is going on with the Patrick Swayze role, and how Drew Barrymore's antics wouldn't even be tolerated in 1988, let alone 2023. Sitting in with Kevin Gootee is his all time favorite co-host, Kevin Israel. Can Phil get the hat trick with his 3rd gutting? Or is his argument worse than Seth Rogen playing the role of a bully in this film. Yep, this happened. Is this the best recent cult classic? Are you tired of clickbait-y questions? Lisa Curry EXPELS Rushmore Episode 211 GTSC podcast

Just as the nerds are sheathing their swords, another Wes Anderson finds itself on the business end of a broad axe. Lisa Curry, opener for Jim Jefferies, gets a megaphone to shout why Rushmore is one of the worst high school comedies ever made. Lisa explains how Bill Murray, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, and why Jason Schwartzman's nepotism tanks the film. Lisa also explains how she went to a super rowdy school in (checks notes) Crown Pointe, Indiana. Well, they all can't be the high school from Lean on Men. Kevin Gootee taps the shoulder of old pal, AC Roe (The Conversation on Hulu) to jump on this USS Enterprise of bemusement. Where do you rank Rushmore on the list of great comedies? Scotty Landes DISSOLVES the Royal Tenenbaums Episode 207 GTSC podcast

The Citizen Kane of quirky, nerd comedies is possibly about to get its comeuppance. The Royal Tenenbaums is debatably the best of Wes Anderson films. Gene Hackman, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson (thankfully they have different hair color and noses), Gwyneth Paltrow (I hate that I had to google her correct name spelling and remind myself that her kid's name is Apple) Ben Stiller, and Roger Murtaugh himself round out this cast of Upper West Siders you would never invite over your house.Enter Scotty Landes, podcast host of Banana along with Kurt Braunohler, writer of Ma, Burt Kreischer's "The Machine" movie that was out earlier this year. The boys discuss what movies to put on to while inviting a lady over the house. Do you think Wes Anderson is a genius and Scotty is insane? No mincing words here. Jackie Kashian is metaphorically strapping on a suicide vest and attacking arguably, the greatest film ever made. The Godfather is not only beloved, financially successful, and acclaimed; it's probably most people's opinion of the best movie. She explains why Michael Corleone, Vito Corleone, Sonny, Tom Hagen, Kay, Fredo is just a complete waste of time and easily the most wrongfully overrated film. She acquiesces that Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, Talia Shire, and John Cazale were great performances but the storyline should sleep with the fish.Joining Kevin Gootee to hear this Don Quixote-esque quest to poke holes in the Godfather is super friend to the show, Dave Quist, of the Blockbuster Mentality podcast. Dan Szymborski MICROWAVES Frozen episode 194 GTSC podcast

Want to get your daughter to hate your guts before she turns 12? Dan Szymborski (Fangraphs and ESPN) will gladly hold your hand as he gives the step by step manual reasoning why you should hate Frozen. Dan says Elsa and Anna's cutesy poo adventures are masked by a weaker than normal Disney/Pixar plot and the perfect masking agent...Disney Songs that may or many not be breaking the Geneva Convention. Let It Go, Do You Want to Build a Snowman, and Love is an Open Door are the holy trinity of hell known as Disney Radio and Disney on Ice/Icecapades. @KevinGootee's daughter LOVES this film and she might allow herself to be kidnapped in hopes of a better life if she ever heard that her dad allowed one of her favorites to be held to public scrutiny. @delvin_Cox (Delvin Cox Experience podcast) had his daughter watch it again with him just to see his reaction.Does Dan stand an Olaf's chance in hell arguing that this beloved Disney princess singalong juggernaut is worse than John Travolta butchering Idina Menzel's name? Or is his argument as sweet as Kristin Bell's ice tea? The gang also discusses creepy adult dudes who shows up alone at Disneyworld with 85 pins and no wife or kids.Let's also see if Chat GPT can FINALLY write better jokes than Kevin Gootee. But most importantly, let's see if Dan can Gut...the..sacred...cow!Don't forget, you can find us on all podcasts platforms:apple iTunes: <img decoding="async" class="secondline-psb-subscribe-img" src="/wp-content/plugins/podcast-subscribe-buttons/assets/img/icons/Apple-Podcasts.svg" alt="Apple Podcasts">Apple PodcastsSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2GDfYlOC36RWFAhXTlgSM0google: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5yZWRjaXJjbGUuY29tL2JmYjYyMmYzLTk5Y2ItNDQ4Mi05OWQzLWIyNjlhMWIzNjBjYw?hl=eniheartradio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-gutting-the-sacred-cow-52467806/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@GuttingtheSacredCowHello to our new friends! ABOUT THIS SHOW
