Ep 99 - Why Fall Is a Great Season for Healthy Habits

Rather than a list of fall health tips, this episode is about recognizing how the fall season can naturally support your health goals... if you choose to see it that way.   Fall can be such a natural time to reset healthy and productive habits, without needing to force motivation or manufacture structure from scratch.   In this episode you'll hear:   🔸 What a national poll reveals about how Americans really feel about fall, and why that matters   🔸 Why you don't have to love this season for it to still offer real opportunity   🔸 An honest story behind why fall isn't everyone's favorite, including a family member's very different experience with this time of year   🔸 A few specific reasons fall naturally supports healthy habits, from schedule shifts to energy changes   🔸 Why this season can feel like a fresh start without the pressure that often comes with January resolutions   🔸 How a wellness routine for fall can be built around structure that's already there, instead of one you have to create yourself   🔸 A free resource to help you build habits that stick, no matter what season you're in   If you've been wondering how to feel more grounded as the seasons shift, or if you want healthy living after 40 that doesn't require overhauling your entire life, this episode offers a starting point that's realistic and sustainable.   Listen in for a calm, honest look at what this season has to offer, and what it might mean for your own health and habits going forward.   Also mentioned in this episode: Episode 53 - Shorter Days Got You Down? Ep 98 - Back to School with Less Mental Load: A Simple Family Calendar System That Gives Your Kids Ownership

Back to school tends to bring a real spike in mental load, even when nothing has technically gone wrong yet.   Teacher emails. Sports schedules. Volunteer sign ups. Supply lists. Forms. It all lands around the same two weeks, and most of it needs somewhere to live.   In this episode, I'm sharing what shifted in our house this year around our family calendar system, and why it's made a real difference in how much I'm carrying on my own.   This isn't a rehash of my weekly fridge calendar system from episode 32. This is what came after. What happened when a summer job gave my kids a reason to actually use their own calendars, and what that's meant for our house heading into this school year.   You'll hear:   🔸 Why the start of the school year increased mental load in a different way than any other time of the year   🔸 The two year backstory behind our current calendar setup, and why it didn't work at first   🔸 What changed this summer, and why it had nothing to do with me trying harder   🔸 How I set up separate calendars so my kids only see what actually applies to them   🔸 What it looks like now that my teenagers manage their own schedules   If you've ever felt like you're the only one who knows what's going on in your family, this episode will give you a different way to think about that role, and a reassuring answer for what to do about it this year.   Listen to episode 32, Feel Like You're the Only One Who Knows the Schedule?, for the calendar system this episode builds on.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 97 - Why Your Brain Won't Quiet Down and What to Do About It (How to Reduce Mental Fatigue and Improve Your Energy by Closing Open Loops)

If mental fatigue and low energy are a regular part of your week, open loops might be playing a bigger role than you realize.   An open loop is anything your brain is still tracking because it hasn't been resolved. And the tricky part is that these loops don't wait for a convenient time to surface. They come up in the car, while you're making dinner, and sometimes at 2am.   In this episode, we talk about what open loops are, why they keep coming back up, and what it takes to close them. And it's probably not what you think.   You'll learn:   🔸 A common productivity rule that sounds efficient but can quietly work against you   🔸 The difference between finishing a task and closing a loop   🔸 A simple way to capture and organize tasks so your brain can let them go   🔸 How to schedule this kind of work without letting it compete with the things that matter most   If you've ever felt like your brain just won't quiet down, even when you're resting, this episode is for you.   If you want help mapping out your own time and energy patterns, check out the Time and Energy Reset 🔁. Ep 96 - Tired of Wasting Healthy Food? A Simple Way to Plan Healthy Meals with Less Waste

If you're looking for simple meal planning tips to reduce food waste, this episode offers one small shift that makes a real difference. This is a short episode, perfect for a busy week, but the idea inside it can change how you shop and cook for a long time.   Have you ever bought an ingredient for one recipe, used part of it, and found the rest gone bad in your fridge a week later? Yeah, me too. But don't worry, it's not a sign that you need a complicated system.   In this episode, you'll hear:   🔸 Why certain ingredients keep ending up wasted, even when you're trying to be careful   🔸 One question to ask while making your grocery list that changes the outcome   🔸 How this approach lowers mental load, not just food waste   🔸 Why this isn't about meal prepping every ingredient   This episode is a great fit if you're interested in easy meal planning, healthy living after 40, or simple ways to make healthy habits stick without adding more to your plate.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 95 - Listener Favorite: Struggling with Discipline or Motivation? Break the Deprivation-Rebellion Cycle and Build Healthy Habits You Actually Enjoy

Struggling with motivation or discipline when it comes to your healthy habits? This is one of the most listened-to episodes in the show's history, so I'm bringing it back this week!   Do you ever feel like you have two choices when it comes to your habits: give in right away, or deny yourself completely?   That's how so many people end up trapped in a cycle of deprivation, rebellion, and guilt.   In this episode, I share a mindset shift that helps you build healthy habits without feeling deprived, and it helps you enjoy the things you love even more.   You'll hear:   🔸 Why deprivation backfires and what it does to your habits   🔸 Why rebelling against your own rules is common, and how to stop   🔸 How to use moderation intentionally, so it feels good instead of like punishment   🔸 Why delaying (not denying) the things you love makes them more satisfying   🔸 How this strategy builds discipline and consistency without resentment   You’ll learn how to approach moderation in a way that builds self-trust, consistency, and motivation — instead of resentment.   You don’t have to punish yourself to live a healthier, happier life. If you’re ready to stop swinging between extremes, and finally build healthy habits and routines that stick — while enjoying your life more — this episode is for you.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 94 - The Hangover After the Push: Understanding Energy Management and Recovery

If you've ever finished a demanding stretch of work and ended up dealing with low energy and burnout instead of feeling recharged, there's a reason for that, and it's not a lack of discipline.   In this episode, we're talking about what happens after a push. The kind that leaves you feeling foggy, flat, or worn out, even when you technically have the day off.   If you've ever felt guilty for not being productive on a day you "should" have had energy for, this episode is for you.   Kiley talks about:   🔸 Why energy is a resource to manage, not a moral test   🔸 The pattern behind low energy days that follow a big push, at work or in life   🔸 Why rest and recovery matter for burnout prevention and long term health   🔸 A shift in mindset that can bring real relief if you've been hard on yourself for needing to recover   🔸 How to recognize this pattern showing up in your own life   This episode is a reminder that needing to recover isn't a sign of weakness. It's part of how energy and productivity work, and understanding that can change how you treat yourself on your lowest energy days.   If this episode resonates with you, and you want help mapping out your own time and energy patterns, check out the Time and Energy Reset 🔁. Ep 93 - Why Waiting for the Right Time Backfires: A Time Management Mindset Shift

Waiting for a calmer season before you focus on your health habits, time management, or other important goals? This is a common pattern, but this episode asks whether that calmer season is actually coming.   Waiting for the right time to start something new feels responsible. But if you've been putting off change until things calm down, consider this: what if right now already has more room in it than you think?   I share two real-life moments where the "right time" turned out to be different than expected. One involves a coaching client who chose to start in August instead of waiting for fall. The other is a personal story from my trip to Florida, where a decision made under time pressure ended up revealing more available time, not less.   You'll hear:   🔸 Why the season you're waiting for might not be calmer than the one you're in   🔸 A coaching client's decision to start before her kids' school year started, and what she saw that most people miss   🔸 A personal story from a family trip to Florida, and what I realized after the trip began   🔸 Why waiting often has less to do with timing and more to do with delay   🔸 A simple mindset shift that makes it easier to take a small step now, instead of waiting for a better moment later   This episode isn't about filling every open hour. It's about noticing where enough room already exists, and what becomes possible once you start using some of it.   If you've been feeling behind, reactive, or like you're just trying to get through the day, this episode offers a different way to think about your week, one small step at a time.   Also mentioned in this episode: the Time and Energy Reset 🔁, a single 45-minute coaching session where I help you map your week, identify time and energy leaks, and build a realistic plan around your priorities, not somebody else's idea of balance. Ep 92 - Planning But Not Following Through? Here’s What You Might Be Missing

If your plan for healthy habits keeps falling apart, you're not alone, and it's probably not because you're bad at planning.   In this episode, I share a personal story about a time my husband and I needed to dig ourselves out of a big financial hole. The plan we made mattered, but it wasn't the main thing that got us there.   I share:   🔸 What came before the plan, and why it made all the difference   🔸 Why looking at your current habits can feel uncomfortable, and what to do with that discomfort   🔸 The difference between tracking for clarity and tracking to judge yourself   This episode is for anyone who has made a plan, watched it fall apart, and assumed that meant they needed a better plan. If that sounds familiar, this conversation might shift how you think about planning altogether.   Other episodes mentioned: Episode 39 - How Paying Off Debt Improved My Health, Energy, and Work-Life Balance   Want to be in better control of your finances? Ep 91 - How the "Pay Yourself First" Rule Improved My Health

If you've ever felt like there's nothing left of you by the end of the day, this episode may sound familiar, especially if you're a busy mom or have a high-stress career.   When my kids were little, my husband and I were running on empty. Two demanding careers, two kids in diapers, a house that needed a lot of work...   We weren't sleeping enough, eating well, or moving our bodies.   We knew better. We just didn't have anything left to give ourselves.   Then I heard a concept that changed how I thought about health. It's a phrase my husband and I still repeat today, years later.   In this episode, I share:   🔸 The personal finance concept that ended up reshaping how we protect our health and energy   🔸 What it looked like to pay ourselves first, starting small, in a season with no extra time or energy   🔸 How this decision changed the culture of our entire family, including our now teenage kids   This isn't a story about discipline or willpower. It's about a small shift in order, and what that shift can build over time.   If you are in a depleted season right now, I hope this gives you permission to stop waiting.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 90 - Can’t Stay Consistent with Healthy Habits? How to Lower the Setup Cost

If you've been struggling to stay consistent with healthy habits, the problem might not be what you think.   Most of us assume that when we fall off track, we need more motivation, more willpower, or a better plan. But there's something else that often gets in the way. Something that has nothing to do with how much you care or how hard you're trying.   In this episode, Kiley talks about the concept of setup cost: the time, energy, and mental load that stands between you and the things you want to do consistently.   When setup cost is high, even the habits you genuinely want to build tend to fall apart. And when it's low, consistency becomes a whole lot easier.   You'll learn:   🔸 Why motivation isn't usually the real problem   🔸 What setup cost is and how it affects your healthy habits   🔸 Real-life examples of how lowering setup cost leads to doing things more consistently   🔸 A simple question to ask yourself about any habit you've been struggling with   🔸 How to make a small upfront investment that pays off long-term   This episode might shift the way you think about why healthy habits stick for some people and not others. And it might make you feel a little less frustrated with yourself in the process.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 89 - Summer Threw Off Your Routine? The Real Skill Behind Long-Term Healthy Living

Healthy routines and consistency can feel especially challenging in the summer.   If your schedule has been all over the place and you’re feeling a little “off” with your health habits, this episode is for you.   Summer can feel destabilizing, even if it’s a fun time of year. The changing schedules, travel, later nights, social events, and loss of structure can make healthy living feel harder than usual.   Instead of focusing on creating the perfect summer routine, this episode explores a different approach to consistency.   Kiley discusses:   🔸 Why so many people feel like they fall off track during the summer   🔸 Why healthy habits often feel harder during less-structured seasons   🔸 The difference between routine and consistency   🔸 How to stay connected to your health goals even when life feels unpredictable   🔸 Why long-term healthy living is less about perfect routines and more about repeatedly returning to what matters   If you’ve been feeling discouraged because life feels less organized and less healthy lately, I hope this episode helps you take a deep breath and realize that while this experience is incredibly common, it doesn't have to be your story.    Healthy living does not have to depend on a perfect conditions.    👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 88 - Exercising and Eating Healthy, But Not Losing Weight? Why Your Effort and Results May Not Match

Exercising and eating healthy but not losing weight can feel incredibly frustrating, especially when you genuinely feel like you're making a real effort.   In this episode, Kiley takes a calm, honest look at why your effort and results may not always match when it comes to fat loss and calorie balance.   If you've ever wondered: “Why am I working out and still not losing weight?” or “How can I be eating healthy and not seeing progress?” …this episode is for you.   Kiley unpacks 3 extremely common ways people accidentally misread the math around weight loss, including:   🔸 Underestimating calories consumed   🔸 Overestimating calories burned through exercise   🔸 Miscalculating real-life activity level and TDEE   This episode is not about obsessing over calories or tracking every bite forever.   It’s about awareness.   It’s about getting clearer feedback so you can stop feeling like your body “isn’t responding” when the real issue may simply be distorted assumptions about calorie intake, exercise burn, or activity level.   Kiley discusses:   🔸 Why healthy foods can still push calories higher than expected   🔸 How exercise calorie burn is often lower than people expect   🔸 Why fitness machines and watches aren't as accurate as we assume   🔸 Why smaller women over 40 may burn fewer calories than they realize   🔸 How tracking and reflection can reduce frustration and improve decision-making   🔸 Why results often has less to do with “trying harder” and more to do with improving awareness and feedback   If you’ve been feeling discouraged because you’re putting in effort but not seeing the progress you hoped for, this episode will help you look at things through a calmer, more realistic lens.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 87 - Why Everyday Life Feels More Exhausting Than It Should (and How to Reduce Daily Friction)

Why does everyday life feel more exhausting than it should, even when you're just doing normal things?   In this episode, we’re talking about daily friction and how small, repetitive tasks can quietly drain your energy, mental bandwidth, and motivation over time.   Not because the tasks themselves are difficult. But because constantly making decisions and recreating the same setup over and over again adds up.   This episode explores a simple mindset shift that can make healthy habits, meal prep, planning, and everyday responsibilities feel lighter and easier, without requiring more discipline or willpower.   Kiley discusses:   🔸 Why tiny repetitive tasks can become surprisingly draining   🔸 The hidden cost of constantly “starting from zero”   🔸 A simple question that can help you reduce friction in daily life   🔸 Why reducing friction matters more than trying harder   🔸 Small ways to make life easier on your future self   🔸 How this relates to healthy habits, productivity, and feeling less overwhelmed   If you’ve been feeling mentally overloaded, low on energy, or like everyday life requires more effort than it should, this episode is for you.   Not because something is wrong with you.   But because small amounts of friction, repeated often enough, can quietly wear you down.   And sometimes, the solution is simpler than we think.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 86 - Why Your To-Do List Feels Overwhelming (and a Simple Way to Organize It)

If your to-do list feels overwhelming, learning how to organize your to-do list in a simple, realistic way can make your day feel more manageable and a lot less chaotic.   There’s something satisfying about getting everything out of your head and onto paper. Seeing it clearly. Checking things off. It creates a sense of progress, and that matters more than we sometimes realize.   But when everything is sitting in one long list, it can start to feel like too much. Work tasks, things for your family, and the things you hope to do for yourself all end up competing for your attention.   In this episode, we’re looking at a small adjustment you can make before you even start your list. It takes just a few seconds, but it can change how your day looks and feels.   I discuss:   🔸 Why one long list can lead to overwhelm and avoidance   🔸 A simple way to organize your to-do list into four clear areas of your life   🔸 How separating tasks helps you focus during different parts of your day   🔸 A way to see where your time and energy are going without overanalyzing it   🔸 Why more clarity often works better than trying to push harder   This approach isn’t about doing everything or creating a perfectly balanced day. Some days will lean heavily toward work. Others will be focused on family or home. The goal is simply to see it more clearly, so you can move through your day with less mental noise and more intention.   If you’ve ever made a to-do list and then felt like avoiding it altogether, this episode will feel like a helpful reset.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 85 - How to Feel Like You Have More Time: An Interview with Time Management & Productivity Expert Laura Vanderkam

Time management and productivity expert Laura Vanderkam’s approach to time abundance offers a refreshing alternative to the feeling that there’s never enough time.   In this interview, we talk about some of the concepts from her latest book, Big Time: A Simple Path to Time Abundance.   We explore what it looks like to step out of constant time pressure and start experiencing your time differently… feeling better in the life you’re already living.   We discuss:   🔸 Why so many of us feel like we’re constantly running out of time… even when that’s not entirely true   🔸 How shifting from a mindset of time scarcity to time abundance can change how your days feel   🔸 What time tracking actually looks like in real life (and why it’s more helpful than most people realize)   🔸 How weekly planning can help you enjoy your life more   🔸 How small changes in your work and evenings can create more relaxation and enjoyment   🔸 Why saying no isn’t always the answer to better time management   If you’ve ever felt like your days are full, but not always in the ways you want them to be… this conversation is for you.   Where you can find Laura: Website: lauravanderkam.com Instagram: instagram.com/lvanderkam   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 84 - How to Start Liking Healthy Food (How to Retrain Your Taste Buds)

If you’ve ever thought, “I know what I should be eating… I just don’t really like healthy food,” this episode walks through how your taste buds change over time, which can make healthy eating easier.   There’s a quiet frustration that a lot of people carry when it comes to food. You understand what’s “better” for your body. You’ve tried to make changes. But it still feels like you’re choosing between health and enjoyment.   This episode offers a different way to think about that. I discuss:   🔸 Why your food preferences aren’t fixed and how they’re shaped by what you eat most often   🔸 What’s really happening when healthy foods taste “underwhelming” at first   🔸 How long it typically takes for your palate to start shifting   🔸 What you may notice as your taste buds begin to recalibrate   🔸 Why foods you used to crave can start to feel too sweet, salty, or heavy   🔸 Simple, real-life examples of how this shift plays out over time   If you’re in that phase where healthier choices just don’t taste as good, this episode is meant to take the pressure off. You’re not doing anything wrong. You may simply be early in the process.   As your palate begins to shift, something important happens. The foods you used to feel like you “should” eat start to become the ones you actually want.   That’s where this starts to feel more natural. More sustainable. Less like a constant effort.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 83 - Why Your Week Doesn’t Go as Planned, Even When You Plan It Well (And Why I Got Called "Unc")

If you’ve ever felt frustrated that your plans don’t work or your week doesn’t go as planned, even when you try to stay organized and follow through, this episode will likely feel familiar.   Sometimes it’s not about doing more or trying harder.   Sometimes it’s about understanding what’s actually happening beneath the surface.   In this episode, I share a quick, slightly ridiculous story involving my son, my phone, and a very unexpected nickname. It’s one of those moments that makes you pause and think, “what just happened?”   From there, we zoom out and look at something I see all the time with planning and follow-through. You can have a solid plan, clear intentions, and a realistic schedule… and things still don’t go the way you expected.   Not because you did anything wrong, but because there are often variables you didn’t see coming. Some obvious, some subtle, and all very real.   I talk about why this happens, why it’s so easy to turn it into a personal failure, and a small shift that can make your week feel a lot less frustrating.   If you’ve ever thought, “Why can’t I just stick to my plan?” this episode offers a different way to look at that question.   This isn’t about perfect planning.   It’s about creating a way of approaching your time and energy that actually works in real life.   📩 Join my email list, and grab your free guide: Get 10 Hours Back. Ep 82 - Spring Doesn’t Always Feel Better (Why You Might Feel Off This Time of Year)

If you’ve ever noticed your mood feels off in the spring or you experience seasonal mood changes when the weather gets nicer, this episode is for you.   Everything around you starts to feel lighter this time of year. More sunlight. Warmer days. More activity.   And yet… you might not feel the way you expected to.   Not severely depressed. Not in crisis.   Just a little off. A little heavier. Not quite yourself.   In this episode, I talk about:   🔸 Why this can happen and why it’s not as unusual as it may seem   🔸 The subtle ways seasonal transitions can affect your mood and energy   🔸 Why your energy and mood don’t always rise at the same time   🔸 How expectations around “feeling better” in the spring can actually make things feel harder   🔸 The idea of your inside not matching your outside, and why that can feel so uncomfortable   This isn’t about fixing anything or adding more to your plate.   It’s about understanding what might be going on.   If you’ve felt this way before, or you’re feeling it right now, this episode might help you make a little more sense of it and feel less alone.   Interested in coaching? Ep 81 - Hate Cardio? How to Actually Enjoy It

If you hate cardio, struggle to stay consistent with exercise, or feel like workouts are boring or too hard, this episode offers a simpler, more realistic way to think about cardio and movement.   Maybe you’ve told yourself you just don’t like cardio.   Or that you “should” be doing it a certain way.   Or that you just need to be more disciplined.   But what if none of those are the real issue?   In this episode, we look at why cardio often feels like a struggle… and how it might have more to do with the way you’ve been approaching it than cardio itself.   I discuss:   🔸 Why so many people believe they “hate cardio” and what’s actually going on   🔸 How a limited view of exercise keeps you stuck and inconsistent   🔸 A simpler way to think about cardio that feels more flexible and realistic   🔸 Real-life examples of what cardio can look like beyond the usual routines   🔸 A small shift in how you approach movement that can make it easier to come back to   If you’ve ever fallen off track with exercise or felt like you just can’t find something that sticks, this episode will likely feel like a bit of a relief.   You don’t need a perfect plan.   You don’t need to force yourself into something you hate.   And you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing.   There may be more options than you’ve been considering.   And that can change everything.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 80 - Why Your Goals Aren’t Sticking (and How to Plan Your Time So You Follow Through)

If you’ve ever wondered why your goals aren’t sticking or how to follow through on your plans when life gets busy, this episode offers a simple shift in how you think about time that can make a real difference.   It’s easy to assume the issue is motivation or discipline. But often, it’s the way we’re structuring our time that makes consistency feel harder than it needs to be.   In this episode, I walk through a different way to look at your days, weeks, and months… so your efforts build on each other instead of constantly resetting.   I discuss:   🔸 Why focusing too much on “today” or “this week” can make your progress feel fragile   🔸 How thinking in terms of a full year can leave you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected   🔸 The middle ground that helps you stay consistent without needing everything to go perfectly   🔸 A simple way to structure your goals so missed days don’t mean starting over   🔸 What it looks like to adjust instead of restart, and why that changes everything   If you’ve felt stuck in a cycle of starting over... this episode will likely feel relieving.   Because it’s not about doing more.   It’s about looking at your time in a way that supports follow-through.   Interested in coaching? Ep 79 - An Easy Way to Eat More Greens | 🛠️ Useful Tools

Trying to eat more greens and increase fiber can feel harder than it should, especially when preparing vegetables feels inconvenient and messy.   You buy the greens. You want to eat the salad. But when it’s time to make it, something about the process slows you down.   It’s not that you don’t care about your health. And it’s not lack of discipline.   Sometimes it’s just friction.   In this short episode, I walk through a simple kitchen tool that can make eating more greens easier. Not by trying harder, but by changing the process itself.   I discuss:   🔸 Why vegetables can feel just inconvenient enough to skip, even when your intentions are good   🔸 A common friction point that shows up when preparing salads at home   🔸 How a simple tool in your kitchen setup can make salads easier to prepare and eat   🔸 Why making food easier to eat will naturally lead to eating more of it   🔸 A simple example of how reducing friction helps healthy habits stick   If you’ve ever felt like you should be eating more vegetables but just aren’t following through consistently, this episode offers a small, practical shift to make it feel easier.   Sometimes the goal isn’t to push yourself harder. It’s to make the next step feel more manageable.   And if you’re looking for a deeper understanding of why fiber matters for your health, I suggest listening to Episode 46 too.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 78 - Why I've (Mostly) Quit Caffeine in Midlife — and How It’s Going So Far

Reducing caffeine in midlife can affect sleep, energy levels, anxiety, and even things like cyclical breast tenderness in ways you might not expect.   If your morning coffee doesn’t feel quite the same as it used to…   If you feel a little more jittery, a little more tired, or a little more “off”…   You’re not imagining it.   In this episode, I share my own experience of cutting back on caffeine, and what I've noticed along the way.   Not in a dramatic, all-or-nothing way.   Just one small shift… and what changed.   I discuss:   🔸 How caffeine can play a role in midlife symptoms like sleep changes, decreased energy, and breast tenderness   🔸 The subtle, low-level effects of caffeine that are easy to miss until they’re gone   🔸 What happens when you reduce caffeine without giving up your morning coffee routine   🔸 Why this approach was easier to stick with than previous attempts   This isn’t about quitting coffee or doing something extreme.   It’s more about paying attention… and noticing what your body might be telling you now that it didn’t before.   Because sometimes the shift isn’t as big as we think.   And often, the healthy habits that work best are the ones that quietly fit into your life without forcing you to overhaul everything.   If you’ve ever wondered whether cutting back on caffeine might help you feel a little more steady, a little calmer, or a little more like yourself again… this is a gentle place to start.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 77 - Feeling Unmotivated to Exercise? Focus on This | 💡 The Reframe

You know you should exercise. But you're unmotivated to do it.   When the results you’re hoping for feel far away, it’s hard to stay consistent.   If staying consistent with exercise has felt harder than it should, even when you genuinely want to take care of your health, this episode is for you.   The reason might be less of a discipline problem, and more of a reward problem.   The reward you’re looking for might be showing up later than your brain wants it to.   So the habit starts to feel harder than it should.   And over time, consistency slips, even when you care about your health.   But there's a different way to approach exercise.   One that doesn’t require more motivation, more time, or more pressure.   It starts with noticing something that’s already happening, but is easy to overlook.   🔸 A change in your mood   🔸 A little more mental clarity   🔸 A subtle drop in stress   🔸 A sense that the day feels more manageable   These are real benefits.   And they show up much sooner than most people expect.   When you begin to recognize that, exercise can start to feel less like something you have to push yourself to do… and more like something that gives back right away.   Inside this short episode, I offer a simple reframe that can make exercise feel easier, more rewarding, and more sustainable.   Sometimes the shift isn’t about doing more.   It’s about seeing it differently.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 76 - Why You Can’t Rely on Motivation and Willpower (and What to Do Instead)

You start the week feeling motivated. Clear. Focused. Ready to follow through.   And then somewhere along the way, motivation fades… and willpower disappears right when you need it most.   If you’ve ever found yourself wondering why it’s so hard to stay consistent, even when you really want to… you’re not alone. A lot of people searching for answers around motivation and willpower assume they just need more of it. More discipline. More effort.   But what if that’s not the real problem?   In this episode, we take a step back and look at why relying on motivation and willpower can keep you stuck in a cycle of starting and stopping.   I discuss:   🔸 Why motivation comes in bursts and doesn’t stick around as long as you’d like   🔸 Why willpower feels strong one moment and completely gone the next   🔸 The hidden pattern that keeps you restarting, even when you’re trying your best   🔸 A more sustainable approach to building habits that doesn’t depend on how you feel   There’s a different way to approach this. One that feels more predictable and less exhausting.   If you’ve been caught in the cycle of waiting to feel motivated or trying to push through with willpower, this episode will help you to see another path forward.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 75 - A 30 Second Habit That Makes Healthy Eating Easier —The Grape Trick | ⚡️ Quick Win

You want your family to eat healthier. You buy fruit with the best intentions, hoping it will be an easy healthy snack.   But a few days later, it's just sitting there, untouched.   The issue often has less to do with discipline and more to do with something much simpler.   In this Quick Win episode, I look at a small shift that can make healthy eating easier without adding more work to your day.   I discuss:   🔸 Why healthy habits rarely stick when they rely on willpower alone   🔸 A tiny system that can make healthy eating feel almost automatic   🔸 How removing friction can make healthy snacks the obvious choice   🔸 The role environment design plays in everyday food choices   If you’ve ever wondered how to make healthy habits easier for yourself and your family, this episode offers a small but surprisingly powerful example.   👉 Grab my free resource, The 3E Formula for Habits That Stick, where I distill the core ideas from countless habit books into one simple framework you can remember and use right away. Ep 74 - Missing Your Youth? How to Feel Young as You Get Older

Do you ever catch yourself missing your youth?   A song comes on. You visit a place you haven’t seen in years. You notice a younger person who reminds you of yourself decades ago.   And for a second you feel it. That strange mix of nostalgia and disbelief at how quickly time moves.   Maybe you find yourself thinking about the choices you made back then… or the things you worried about that don’t seem nearly as important now.   Maybe you catch yourself wondering how it all went by so quickly.   Or maybe you simply feel a quiet tug to slow down and appreciate life a little more.   These moments can feel bittersweet. But they can also offer a hopeful shift in perspective about getting older, aging well, and how we experience the season of life we’re in right now.   In this episode, we explore a simple realization that can change the way you think about youth, aging, and the time you still have ahead of you.   It’s not about trying to rewind the clock.   It’s about seeing the present moment a little more clearly.   And remembering that this chapter of life might be more vibrant than you think.   If you’ve ever found yourself reflecting on the past, wondering how to feel young as you get older, or wanting a calm and healthy perspective on midlife and aging, this conversation may bring a quiet sense of relief.   And if you’re someone who wants to take care of your health, time, and energy so you can really enjoy the season you're in, you might enjoy a free resource I created called Get 10 Hours Back. Ep 73 - When Kids' Sports Take Over Your Schedule: We Took a Season Off… Here’s What Happened

If you have kids in sports, you know how quickly kids’ sports schedules can take over family life.   Practices after school. Games during the week. Travel on the weekends. Dinner happening whenever you can squeeze it in between car rides and gym bleachers.   At some point you look at the calendar and think… how did it get this full?   In this episode, I share a small behind-the-scenes shift our family experienced recently when both of our kids decided to take a season off basketball.   At first, the quiet felt strange. When you’re used to constant practices and games, open evenings can almost feel… wrong.   But after a few weeks, something else started to happen. Our evenings slowed down in a way that felt surprisingly good.   More time at home. More sleep. More conversations around the fireplace. Less rushing out the door.   This episode isn't criticizing youth sports or saying families should cut activities. Sports can be an incredible part of growing up.   It’s simply a reflection on something many parents quietly wonder about when life starts to feel like one long shuttle between practices and games.   What would it feel like to have a little more margin in a busy family schedule?   And sometimes the simplest way to create that breathing room isn’t adding a new productivity system.   Sometimes it’s just… less.   If you’d like more ideas for creating space in your week, you can grab my free guide called Get 10 Hours Back, where I share the strategies I personally use to create more breathing room in my week... so habits like movement, rest, nutrition, and self-care have space to exist.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 72 - If You Had 10 Extra Hours This Week, What Would Change? (Creating Margin in a Full Life)

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly behind?   Like no matter how hard you try, how early you wake up, or how organized you attempt to be… there’s still this low-grade hum in the background telling you you’re not doing enough?   In this episode, we look at a different possibility.   What if it’s not a discipline problem?   What if it’s a margin problem?   We'll cover:   🔸 If you had 10 extra hours this week, what would actually change?   🔸 Would you rest differently, move differently, respond differently?   🔸 Would your evenings feel calmer?   🔸 Would your workouts feel less rushed?   🔸 Would you snap less and breathe more?   Instead of telling you to try harder, this episode explores how time management and margin affect your capacity, your health habits, and your patience.   When your calendar is packed edge to edge, willpower becomes expensive. And relying on motivation alone in a full life rarely works long-term.   But small structural shifts can quietly change how everything feels.   If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by your schedule, or wondering how to create margin in a full life, this conversation will give you a new lens to look through.   You don’t need a new personality.   You might just need breathing room. 👉 Grab my free resource, Get 10 Hours Back, where I share the strategies I personally use to create more breathing room in my week... so habits like movement, rest, nutrition, and self-care have space to exist.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 71 - Expect It to Take 3 Years: Why "Fast Results" Are Slowing You Down | 💡 The Reframe

Have you ever wondered why you keep quitting too soon… even when you care deeply about the goal?   Maybe you are trying to build muscle. Or trying to lose weight. Or working on better habits. Even when you are doing things “right,” it can feel slow.   In this short reframe episode, we zoom out.   What if the issue is not your discipline or motivation… but your timeline?   There is a pressure that comes from expecting big transformation in a few months. It shows up as urgency. As overhauling everything. As pushing harder when results do not appear fast enough. And eventually, as burnout.   This episode offers a different lens. A longer one.   Not about lowering standards. Not about coasting. But about understanding how real change actually works. The kind that builds strength, endurance, consistency, and identity over time.   If you've ever felt behind in your fitness journey or frustrated with slow progress, this conversation will feel grounding.   Sometimes the shift is not about doing more. Sometimes it's about expecting it to take longer. And noticing what that changes.   This episode is about:   🔸 Sustainable fitness   🔸 Building muscle over 40   🔸 Long term habit change   🔸 Why progress feels slow   🔸 How to stop quitting   🔸 The long game in health and personal growth   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 70 - Feeling Strong… Then Setback? Here’s Why (A Smarter Way to Reach Your Fitness Goals)

You know the feeling... You’re finally consistent with your workouts. Your energy is up. Your strength is improving.   And then something flares. A knee. An elbow. Your motivation.   In this episode, we’re talking about why setbacks often happen right after you start feeling strong. It's not because you’re careless or because you lack discipline. But because feeling good can quietly lead to doing too much, too fast.   If you’ve ever increased your workout intensity and ended up with knee pain, tennis elbow, overtraining symptoms, or unexpected burnout, this conversation is for you.   We explore what’s really happening when your body struggles with abrupt changes in exercise, why gradual progress supports injury prevention, how midlife fitness requires a slightly different pace, and why slow, steady adjustments are often the smarter path to reaching your fitness goals.   This episode is not about holding back. It’s about building strength, improving metabolism, and increasing endurance in a way your body can sustain long term.   Inside, we talk about:   🔸 Why injuries and setbacks often follow seasons of feeling strong   🔸 The connection between overtraining, recovery, and burnout   🔸 How increasing workout intensity too quickly can impact joints and overall performance   🔸 What sustainable fitness progress actually looks like in real life   🔸 Why slow and steady is often the key to avoiding injury and staying consistent   If you’re working on strength training, returning to running, or trying to lose weight without sabotaging your metabolism, this episode offers a calm reframe.   You don’t need to prove anything. You just need a pace that allows you to keep going.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 69 - The Calendar Habit That Saves Me Hundreds of Decisions a Month and Reduces My Mental Load | ⚡️ Quick Win

Are you looking for a simple way to decrease mental load and stay organized?   In this Quick Win episode, I share a simple calendar habit that has helped me decrease mental load and reduce decision fatigue over the years.   It is not a complicated productivity system.   It's one small shift in how and when you use your calendar.   And once it is in place, something interesting happens.   Your brain gets quieter.   You stop re-asking yourself the same questions.   You stop mentally bookmarking emails.   You stop carrying dates and deadlines in the background of your mind.   In this short episode, you'll hear:   🔸 The moment I realized my old system was not working anymore   🔸 The one rule I keep in mind when putting events on my calendar   🔸 Why this habit reduces mental load without creating more work   🔸 A few everyday examples of how this plays out with school schedules, work shifts, and appointments   This conversation pairs naturally with my previous episode on mental load and energy.   If your brain has felt crowded lately, this is a practical place to begin.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 68 - Why the Mental Load You’re Carrying Is Draining Your Energy (Even If You’re Sleeping Well)

You’re going to bed at a reasonable hour. You’re doing the “right” things for your health. And yet you still feel tired. Drained.   In this episode, we explore a different explanation for low energy. Not physical fatigue. Cognitive fatigue.   If you’ve ever wondered why you feel exhausted even when you’re sleeping well, this could be contributing.   You’ll hear about:   🔸 Why mental load can quietly drain your energy, even when your physical habits are solid   🔸 The difference between physical fatigue and mental exhaustion   🔸 How being the one who “remembers everything” in your household may be contributing to low energy levels   🔸 The hidden category of mental vigilance that contributes to burnout   🔸 A few simple ways to reduce mental load without overhauling your life   This episode is less about doing more, and more about carrying less. Ep 67 - Why Your Smallest Habit Matters More Than Your Biggest Goal | 💡 The Reframe

Sometimes habits don’t fall apart because you lack discipline. They fall apart because you only defined them at their best.   In this short reframe episode, you’ll learn a shift in how to think about habit consistency, especially if your schedule is unpredictable or your energy fluctuates from week to week.   Instead of focusing on the ideal workout or the perfectly prepped meals, this episode turns toward a quieter question:   What counts on your lowest-capacity days?   If you’ve ever felt like you “fell off” after missing a few workouts, or like one chaotic week erased your momentum, this conversation normalizes that experience. It explores why strict rules often break, how flexible ranges bend, and how defining a minimum viable action (MVA) can protect long-term habit formation.   You’ll hear:   🔸 A practical reframe that supports consistency without lowering your standards   🔸 A simple way to approach habit-building when your time and energy are limited   🔸 Why identity-based habits matter more than intensity   🔸 How a small action can preserve momentum during busy or overwhelming weeks   🔸 A helpful metaphor for understanding why restarting is harder than continuing   This episode is not about doing more. It's about staying in motion.   It gently reframes what “showing up” means so that healthy habits can survive real life, not just ideal circumstances.   If you’re navigating midlife health goals, balancing work and family, or trying to stay consistent with exercise, meal prep, or strength training, this conversation offers a steady reminder that repetition builds identity, and momentum builds confidence.    👉 Grab my free guide: Get 10 Hours Back. Ep 66 - How to Build Good Habits When Your Schedule Is Unpredictable

Some weeks run smoothly. And others feel scattered, uneven, and hard to plan around.   This episode is for anyone whose schedule changes week to week... long shifts, variable workdays, fluctuating energy, or seasons of life that don’t follow a predictable rhythm.   Instead of pushing harder or trying to force yourself into routines that never quite stick, this conversation gently reframes the problem. It explores why so much habit advice feels frustrating when your life isn’t consistent, and what actually works better when flexibility is required.   You’ll hear a calm, real-life perspective on building habits that can bend without breaking, even when your weeks look very different from one to the next.   In this episode, I talk about:   🔸 Why rigid routines often fall apart in unpredictable schedules... and why that’s a design issue, not a discipline issue   🔸 How anchoring habits to moments in your day can work better than fixed times on the clock   🔸 Why ranges tend to be more sustainable than strict rules when energy and availability fluctuate   🔸 How weekly or monthly goals create steadiness when daily goals feel unrealistic   🔸 A simple reframe that separates flexibility from inconsistency, and takes the pressure off “doing it perfectly”   This episode isn’t about doing more, optimizing harder, or tightening your grip on your schedule. It’s about zooming out, easing up on rigid expectations, and building habits that actually fit the life you’re living right now.   If your weeks feel unpredictable, and habit consistency has felt frustrating, this episode will likely feel validating and stabilizing.   Grab my free resource, Get 10 Hours Back, where I share the strategies I personally use to create more breathing room in my week... so habits like movement, rest, nutrition, and self-care have space to exist.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 65 - An Easy Way to Make Eating Out Healthier + Less Expensive |⚡️ Quick Win

Eating out doesn’t have to mean feeling uncomfortably full, low-energy, or like you made a choice you regret. It also doesn’t have to turn into a mental tug-of-war between “being good” and “just enjoying yourself.”   In this short mini-episode, I’m sharing a simple, realistic way to make restaurant meals feel better physically and mentally.   This is a quick, practical follow-up to my recent episode on losing weight without feeling hungry or deprived, and it’s based on something I do all the time when eating out with my family.   It involves: - No special restaurant list. - No rigid rules. - No “starting over tomorrow” energy.   Just a calm, flexible approach that works in real life.   In this episode, I talk about:   🔸 A simple ordering strategy that naturally supports weight loss without deprivation   🔸 How to build a restaurant meal around fiber and protein from whole foods   🔸 Why this option is often more filling than a traditional entrée   🔸 How eating this way still leaves room to enjoy bites of other foods   🔸 An unexpected bonus that helps your wallet too   If you want eating out to feel easier, more satisfying, and less mentally exhausting, this quick win is for you.   Be sure to listen to the previous episode as well. Ep 64 - How to Lose Weight Without Feeling Hungry and Deprived (The Simple Truth Most People Skip)

Have you ever noticed that the moment you decide to “eat healthier,” food suddenly takes up more mental space?   More decisions.   More second-guessing.   And that quiet worry of… what am I going to have to give up this time?   In this episode, we’re talking about how to eat healthier and lose weight without overcomplicating things or feeling deprived.   This is a grounded, realistic conversation about why eating well often feels harder than it needs to be, and how coming back to one simple anchor can make healthy eating feel calmer, easier, and more sustainable.   We’ll explore:   🔸 Why food starts to feel mentally exhausting the moment you try to be “intentional”   🔸 A simple nutrition principle most people know, but don’t consistently protect in real life   🔸 How fiber and protein from real, whole foods quietly support appetite control and satisfaction   🔸 Why highly processed foods make hunger and cravings harder to manage   🔸 A practical way to think about healthy eating that doesn’t rely on perfection or willpower   This episode isn’t about strict rules, cutting foods out, or following a perfect plan. It’s about understanding how certain foods affect your hunger, your energy, and your ability to maintain a healthy weight — and using that knowledge to make eating feel less complicated.   If you’re tired of feeling like healthy eating requires constant effort, this episode will help you exhale and refocus on what actually works.   Interested in coaching? Ep 63 - Why Am I Always Behind? Understanding the Planning Fallacy

Some days end with a quiet but nagging thought: Is that seriously all I accomplished today?   You weren’t lazy. You weren’t scrolling all day. You were busy, and yet somehow the day still feels like it slipped between your fingers.   In this episode, we talk about a surprisingly common reason so many capable, motivated people feel behind at the end of the day, even when they’re doing meaningful things.   I share a simple real-life story, along with a concept from psychology that helps explain why our days so often feel more disappointing than they deserve to.   This isn’t an episode about doing more or pushing harder. It’s about seeing your days more clearly, easing the pressure you put on yourself, and understanding why realistic expectations matter far more than perfect plans.   In this episode, we explore:   🔸 Why days can feel unproductive, even when nothing went wrong   🔸 What the planning fallacy is, and how it quietly sets us up to feel behind   🔸 How misjudging time leads to unnecessary self-blame   🔸 A gentle mindset shift that can change how you evaluate your days   🔸 A simple experiment to help you feel less pressured and more at ease.   If you often end the day feeling like you should have done more, this episode offers a calm reframe that may help you stop blaming yourself and start planning in a way that actually supports your real life.   Interested in coaching? A clean, organized refrigerator can make healthy eating feel easier and more automatic. But most of us don’t need complicated systems or weekly reset routines to get there.   In this short episode, I’m sharing three simple habits I use to keep my fridge clean and organized in a way that actually fits real life. They’re small, practical habits that quietly prevent clutter, reduce food waste, and make it easier to see and use what you already have.   If you’ve ever opened your fridge and felt overwhelmed by half-used containers or forgotten food, this episode will give you a simple way to rethink how fridge organization fits into your normal routines.   Listen in to learn how small, built-in prompts can do the heavy lifting so fridge cleaning doesn’t turn into a huge, overwhelming chore on your list. 🙌   Interested in coaching? Ep 61 - Do This Now, Thank Yourself Later: Tiny Habits That Reduce Stress and Overwhelm

Ever notice how good it feels when something is already handled for you? Lunch is packed, the space is tidy, the plan is in place. That sense of relief doesn’t happen by accident. It usually comes from a few small decisions made at the right moment.   In this episode, we’re talking about tiny habits that take only seconds to minutes, and they quietly make life easier for your future self. These aren’t big productivity overhauls or rigid routines. They’re simple, low-effort actions that reduce stress, save energy, and help your days run more smoothly.   You’ll hear practical, real-life examples of how small habits can reduce decision fatigue, improve energy, and prevent overwhelm before it starts, especially for busy women juggling work, family, and everything in between.   In this episode, I cover:   🔸 Why life feels easier when small things are handled ahead of time   🔸 How tiny habits create relief for your future self without adding a lot to your plate   🔸 Simple meal-related habits that save time, reduce stress, and eliminate daily decisions   🔸 How getting to bed on time and planning outfits ahead can improve energy and mental clarity   🔸 Why mentally pre-living your day helps it run more smoothly   🔸 Small habits that keep your car and other spaces from becoming overwhelming   🔸 The identity shift that happens when you start thinking ahead instead of reacting   🔸 How tiny habits reduce friction before it turns into stress   🔸 Why systems matter more than motivation when it comes to staying organized   This episode is a reminder that making life easier often doesn’t require more discipline or more effort. It just requires better timing. When you take small actions while you’re already in the moment, you create calm, clarity, and relief for the version of you who’s tired, busy, or stretched thin.   As you go about the rest of your day, notice one moment where you could make things a little easier for your future self and take it. That’s how overwhelm shrinks, one tiny choice at a time.   Interested in coaching? Click ➡️ here.   Enjoying the podcast? Ep 60 - Why Do I Keep Starting Over? (When It’s Hard to Stick to a Plan)

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “Why do I keep starting over?” trust me, you’re not alone. So many motivated, capable women want to make progress, yet feel stuck in a frustrating cycle of planning, falling off track, and resetting everything from scratch.   In this episode we're talking about why it can feel so hard to stick to a plan and why the problem usually isn’t discipline, motivation, or willpower. Often, it’s the way we’re approaching planning in the first place.   Instead of treating plans like rigid final drafts that must be followed perfectly, this episode introduces a calmer, more intentional approach: rough draft energy. A way of planning that’s designed to evolve, adjust, and grow with you, rather than fall apart the moment life gets messy.   You’ll hear a powerful analogy comparing a beautiful, untouched planner to loose, messy scraps of paper and how those imperfect pages can actually tell a far more compelling story of consistency, learning, and real progress.   In this episode, we explore:   🔸 Why constantly starting over is often a planning expectations issue, not a discipline problem   🔸 How perfectionism and all-or-nothing thinking quietly sabotage even the best plans   🔸 The difference between treating a plan like a final draft versus a working document   🔸 Why it’s easier to stick to a plan when you expect it to change and evolve   🔸 How reflection and small adjustments help you make progress without needing a “fresh start”   🔸 Why messy, lived-in plans are often the most effective ones   If you want to make progress without pressure, stop abandoning plans when they aren’t perfect, and learn how to stay engaged even when things don’t go exactly as planned, this episode is for you.   You don’t need a flawless planner, a perfect system, or a complete reset. You need a plan you’re willing to use imperfectly, honestly, and in real time. Because real progress isn’t spotless, and it’s not meant to be.   Interested in coaching in 2026? Ep 59 - The Healthiest Version of You Starts With This One Simple Shift

As a new year begins, it’s easy to feel pressure to come up with the perfect plan, summon more motivation, or follow stricter rules. But the healthiest version of you doesn’t start there.   In this short New Year episode, I’m sharing the most important advice I give my coaching clients when they begin working with me. It’s a simple but powerful shift that makes healthy habits feel more natural, sustainable, and aligned with who you want to be.   Instead of asking, “What should I do differently this year?” we explore a better question: 'Who do I want to become?'   This episode introduces identity-based habit development and explains why lasting change starts with how you see yourself, not how disciplined or motivated you feel.   In this episode, you’ll reflect on:   🔸 What the healthiest version of you looks like and how she feels in her body and mind   🔸 How that version of you carries herself and makes everyday choices   🔸 How she spends her time and protects her energy   🔸 How identity-based habits help you take consistent action without needing a perfect plan   🔸 Why rewriting your internal narrative is often the missing step in creating lasting change   We also talk about why this approach isn’t about pretending to be someone you’re not. It’s about uncovering the strong, capable version of you that’s always been there and learning how to step into that identity through small, daily actions.   This episode is especially helpful if you’ve struggled with motivation, consistency, or all-or-nothing thinking around health and productivity. It offers a calmer, more intentional way to move forward without overwhelm or pressure.   As you head into the year ahead, think of identity as your North Star. You don’t need everything figured out on day one. You just need a clear sense of who you’re becoming and the willingness to take the next right step.   Interested in coaching in 2026? Ep 58 - Your End-of-Year Mini Retreat: Reset, Get Clear, and Prepare for the New Year

As the year comes to a close, many of us feel the pull to plan, set goals, and “get ready” for what’s next... often without ever slowing down long enough to ask what we truly want.   In this episode, I’m sharing one of my highest-leverage recommendations for ending the year well: a simple mini retreat. Nothing fancy. Nothing expensive. Just a short, intentional pause that helps you step out of your daily noise, reconnect with what matters most, and gain clarity before the new year begins.   This is not about productivity for productivity’s sake. It’s about creating space — mentally and emotionally — so you can move forward with purpose instead of pressure.   In this episode, I talk about:   🔸 Why getting out of your normal environment is a powerful way to reset your thinking and access clarity   🔸 How changing location helps shift your brain out of task mode and into perspective mode   🔸 Why dreaming and noticing what comes up is more effective than forcing a rigid planning process   🔸 How to determine one non-negotiable goal that will serve as your anchor for the new year   🔸 Why focusing on one main goal does not mean you can’t make progress in other areas of your life   🔸 How reducing pressure across too many goals actually sets you up for more sustainable success   🔸 When and how to add strategy and mindset so your goal has real staying power   🔸 A simple year-in-review process you can use during your mini retreat (inspired by Tim Ferriss) to help you reflect on what worked and what didn’t   🔸 A clear, 15-minute goal-setting process that combines strategy and mindset for one meaningful goal   If you’re feeling overwhelmed by planning, unsure where to focus, or craving a calmer way to approach the new year, this episode will help you slow down, get clear, and choose direction without adding more to your plate.   Your invitation after listening: schedule your mini retreat, step away from your normal environment, give yourself permission to dream, and leave with one clear goal that feels aligned and grounded — so you can enter the new year with confidence and clarity. 🙌   Interested in coaching in 2026? Ep 57 - A Simple Year-in-Review Ritual That Only Takes 20 Minutes

If the idea of reflecting on your year or setting New Year’s resolutions feels overwhelming, or you’re not quite sure where to start, this episode offers a refreshingly simple approach.   Inspired by a blog post I read by Tim Ferriss, this simple year-in-review ritual can help you gain real clarity without big worksheets, long journaling sessions, or complicated systems. All it takes is about 20 minutes and a look at your calendar.   In this episode, I discuss:   🔸 Why traditional goal-setting and year-end reviews can feel so overwhelming   🔸 How to use your calendar as a mirror for your real life, not your ideal life   🔸 How to identify the people, activities, and commitments that created positive emotions versus negative emotions   🔸 Why emotional data matters just as much as productivity data   🔸 How to create simple “more” and “less” lists that guide your next year   🔸 How this quick reflection can help you avoid repeating patterns that leave you exhausted   🔸 How this process supports busy women managing work, kids, schedules, and endless logistics   This approach is especially powerful for women carrying a heavy mental load. Your calendar quietly holds the story of your year, including the invisible labor, appointments, sports, caregiving, and commitments that don’t always get acknowledged. When you review it with intention, you gain honest feedback without shame or pressure.   This episode is an invitation to slow down, reflect gently, and move into the new year with intention instead of overwhelm.   If you finish this review and realize you want support turning clarity into real change, coaching is designed to help you take those “more” and “less” lists and turn them into habits, boundaries, and systems that actually stick. Ep 56 - Simple, Calm, and Healthy: A Stress-Free Approach to the Holidays

If you’re craving a simple, calm, and healthy holiday season this year, this episode will feel like a breath of fresh air. December can easily turn into a whirlwind of shopping, decorating, scheduling, cooking, budgeting, and carrying the mental load for everyone. But a simpler holiday doesn’t mean a less meaningful one. In fact, simplifying your season might help you show up with more joy, presence, and energy than ever.   In this episode, I talk through how the holidays feel different for everyone and why it’s important to stay aligned with what matters most to you, not what social media or cultural pressure tells you to do. Gifts might not be your love language. Clutter might drain you. A tight holiday budget might matter deeply. And if so, this season can feel heavy. You’re not alone.   We’ll walk through the hidden mental load women often carry this time of year and why it’s so easy to slip into holiday overwhelm. You’ll learn why it’s completely normal to feel stretched thin, and why doing “all the things” doesn’t automatically create a more meaningful December.   Most importantly, we talk about the power of simplifying. Simplifying your holiday season can lighten your mental load, protect your energy, and help you create a calmer, more connected experience for you and your family. I’ll share several practical ways I’ve simplified over the years and how each one has helped me show up with more presence.   In this episode I cover:   🔸 Why the mental load increases for so many women in December   🔸 How financial pressure around gifting impacts stress and energy   🔸 Why clutter, overspending, and holiday expectations feel overwhelming   🔸 How simplifying helps you stay aligned with what actually matters   🔸 The connection between simplicity, presence, and meaningful holiday memories   🔸 Personal examples of simplifying gifts, budgeting, meals, and holiday traditions   🔸 How delegating holiday responsibilities can reduce stress and strengthen connection   🔸 A simple Google Sheets system for staying organized and on budget   🔸 Why elegant simplicity can bring more joy than over-complicating (thanks, Ina Garten!)   🔸 How to identify your own holiday tipping point so you stay on the enjoyment side   If you’ve ever found yourself feeling tired, stretched thin, or overwhelmed by holiday expectations, this episode will give you clarity, a shift in perspective, and a breath of fresh air. A simple, calm, and healthy December is absolutely possible for you.   Interested in coaching in 2026? Now is the PERFECT time to join! Ep 55 - Think You Need More Motivation? What Really Creates Momentum When You’re Stuck

If you’ve ever wanted to change something in your life but you just can’t seem to follow through, this episode is going to connect a few important dots. Most people know exactly what to do when it comes to eating healthier, moving consistently, and taking better care of themselves. The real struggle is staying consistent in the middle of real life.   In today’s episode, we talk about why motivation and willpower aren't the issue and what the real missing piece is when you keep starting over. You’ll learn why external accountability creates momentum, why it’s helpful during busy seasons of life, why it's especially important in the early stages of behavior change, and how it takes you from good intentions to real results.   You’ll also learn how structure, support, and accountability help you follow through long enough to see the changes you’ve been wanting, and why this kind of accountability feels encouraging, not intimidating. We’ll talk about how accountability looks in real life, why it works so well for women juggling work and family, and how it gives you clarity, confidence, and the follow-through you’ve been craving.   We’ll also get into why it’s easy to invest in our kids’ growth and development but so hard to invest in our own, even though our health and energy have a massive impact on everyone around us. If you’ve been trying to do things on your own for months or years, today’s episode will give you a new perspective on what actually helps you stay consistent.   You’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of how to gain momentum, and what to put in place to create sustainable habits that last.   In this episode, we talk about:   🔸 Why information isn’t the problem and why implementation is   🔸 Why motivation fades and why accountability creates consistency   🔸 How external accountability helps you follow through when life gets busy   🔸 Why new habits feel hard in the beginning and how support makes them stick   🔸 How coaching gives you structure, support, and clarity   🔸 What accountability looks like inside a real coaching relationship   🔸 Why planning your week helps your decisions feel easier   🔸 How simplifying your meals and habits makes consistency more realistic   🔸 Why your health impacts your patience, energy, productivity, and family   🔸 Why your goals matter just as much as your kids’ goals   🔸 How to know if it’s time to try something different instead of going it alone   If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated with your lack of progress, this episode will help you understand what’s likely been missing and what to do next.   Interested in coaching? Ep 54 - How Many Calories Should I Eat? Make Sure You Know This One Number

Calories often get a bad rap, but they’re not the enemy. In fact, understanding them is key to feeling your best and reaching your health goals.   In this episode, I explain how to find your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). This number determines how many calories your body burns in a day, and why it’s so important for sustainable fat loss, muscle gain, and maintaining your energy.   If you’ve ever felt like you’re eating healthy but not seeing results, this episode will help you understand why.   You'll learn:   🔸 How to determine your calorie needs   🔸 What TDEE is (and why it matters for your goals)   🔸 How your age, height, weight, and activity level affect your metabolism and calorie needs   🔸 Why starting with the “sedentary” activity level can give you an eye-opening perspective   🔸 Why plateaus happen during weight loss and what to do about them   🔸 How to avoid losing muscle and slowing your metabolism   🔸 What a healthy calorie deficit really looks like   🔸 How to build calorie awareness without falling into obsession   You’ll walk away with a better understanding of how your metabolism works, how activity and muscle play a major role, and how to make informed nutrition choices that fit your lifestyle, without restrictive dieting.   If you’re ready to stop guessing and start making progress, this episode will help you connect the dots between calories, metabolism, and lasting results.   Want to calculate your TDEE manually? Here's how to do it.   First, calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation:   • Women: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (y) – 161 • Men: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (y) + 5   That gives you your BMR — the calories your body burns just to stay alive.   Then, to estimate your TDEE, multiply that number by your activity level: • Sedentary (very little movement): × 1.2 • Lightly active (light exercise 1–3 days/week): × 1.375 • Moderately active (3–5 days/week): × 1.55 • Very active (6–7 days/week): × 1.725 • Extremely active (physical job + hard exercise): × 1.9   The result is your estimated Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) — roughly how many calories you burn in a day.   Ready to take this even further? Ep 53 - Shorter Days Got You Down? Cozy Up with These Healthy Hygge Habits

Colder days and darker evenings used to leave me feeling drained, discouraged, and desperate for spring. But not anymore! And in this episode, I’m sharing exactly what changed.   When I discovered the concept of hygge (pronounced HOO-gah), it helped me to reframe winter completely. Instead of just pushing through the season, I learned how to create a cozy, intentional lifestyle that actually supports my energy, mood, and well-being. (Thanks, Meik Wiking!)   But here’s the thing... not all hygge habits are healthy. And if we’re not intentional, it’s easy to slip into patterns that leave us feeling more sluggish than restored.   In this episode, I’m walking you through five key areas where you can embrace healthy hygge—habits that are both comforting and energizing... so you can make this season one of the most nourishing times of the year.   You'll learn:   🔸 What hygge actually is (and how it explains why Denmark is so happy, despite dark winters)   🔸 Why cozy doesn’t have to mean checked out, and healthy doesn’t have to mean hustle   🔸 How to create a home environment that soothes your nervous system... simply   🔸 Nourishing food and warm drinks that feel indulgent but actually support your energy   🔸 A funny story about “coma in a bowl” and what it taught me about comfort food gone too far   🔸 The power of movement and outdoor time to enhance the cozy factor, not take away from it   🔸 The role of mindfulness, rest, and screen-free moments in boosting your mood   🔸 Why true connection is about quality, not quantity, and how to find more of it this season   If you tend to feel a little off as the days get shorter... or if you just want to feel better, more grounded, and more energized this winter... this episode is for you. 🕯️   Ready to take this even further? If you’d like help creating healthier habits, building routines that actually work, and designing a lifestyle that supports your well-being, I’d love to work with you. Ep 52 - What One Year of Podcasting Taught Me About Healthy Habits, Staying Consistent, and Sustainable Routines

This week marks one full year of the Healthy and Productive Living podcast 🤗, and I’m reflecting on what this experience has taught me, not just about content creation, but about life, health, and sustainable habits.   If you’ve ever felt discouraged because you didn’t meet a goal perfectly, or if you’ve struggled to stay consistent without burning out, this episode will provide some useful mindset shifts.   This is a real-life look behind the scenes of my first year of podcasting, and how it reinforced some of the most important lessons about long-term health, self-care, and consistency.   In this episode I'm sharing:    🔸 Why I scaled back from 2 episodes a week to 1, and why I don’t regret it   🔸 The surprising benefit of taking intentional breaks (and why my downloads still went up)   🔸 How to know the difference between rest and avoidance   🔸 The power of building momentum with habits that last   🔸 Why “never miss twice” has become one of my favorite mantras (thanks, James Clear!)   🔸 How a lifestyle approach to health and wellness keeps you in the game long-term   Whether you're working on your health, trying to stay consistent with meal prep, or simply trying to create space for the things that matter, you'll find encouragement and real-life strategies in this episode.   And if you're ready to ditch the all-or-nothing cycle and take a more realistic, lifestyle-based approach to your health and well-being, coaching might be the perfect next step!   Interested in coaching? Ep 51 - The Martyr Trap: How Neglecting Yourself Hurts Everyone (An Example from My Own Life)

Have you ever caught yourself putting everyone else’s needs before your own... only to end up tired, resentful, and frustrated? It feels noble in the moment, but there’s a hidden cost. Today I’m sharing a personal story from my own life that shows how playing the martyr role actually hurts everyone involved, including the people we love most.   In this episode, you’ll discover:   🔸 What the martyr complex is and why it’s so destructive   🔸 How unnecessary self-sacrifice leads to resentment, guilt, and disconnection   🔸 The difference between true generosity and giving from obligation   🔸 Why self-care isn’t selfish — it’s essential for healthy relationships   🔸 Practical ways to be authentic and honest about your needs so everyone wins   If you’ve ever struggled with self-care guilt, caregiver burnout, or the feeling that you’re always giving but never refueling, this episode will help you see things in a new light. You’ll walk away with both encouragement and clarity on how to stop playing the martyr, and and start showing up with more energy, patience, and true generosity.   Tune in to learn how to let go of guilt, honor your needs, and give from a place of wellness, not depletion.   Interested in coaching? Ep 50 - Protein Imposters: Foods You Think Are High-Protein (But Aren’t)

Think you’re eating plenty of protein? You might be surprised.   So many foods are considered “great protein sources,” but when you look closely, most of the calories are actually coming from fat or carbs. In today’s episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on some of the biggest offenders — foods that look protein-rich but tell a different story when you compare them calorie for calorie with a lean protein source like chicken breast.   You'll learn:   🔸 Why cheese is more of a fat source than a protein source (and what to swap it with)   🔸 The real story behind ground beef labels like “93% lean,” and why they can be misleading   🔸 Eggs vs egg whites — how to get the nutrients you want without the extra calories   🔸 Why nuts and nut butters aren’t the protein bombs you’ve been told they are   🔸 Protein bars: how to spot the ones that are basically candy bars in disguise   The goal isn’t to cut out these foods completely. It’s to understand what you’re really eating so you can build balanced meals that support your energy, your workouts, and your goals.   Protein doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does require a little awareness. Let’s dive in!   🎧 Listen now and learn how to avoid these common protein mistakes.   Interested in coaching? Click ➡️ here.   Enjoying the podcast?
