Laura is invited by her Aunt Sonja, owner of Nautical Napkins, to help with a task involving an old submarine being converted into a restaurant. While Sonja reminisces about the napkin business, a body is discovered in the engine room, stabbed and surrounded by poisons and several passports. One of the names on the list, Olga Dmitrieva, is a former spy Sonja worked with during the island’s espionage-filled 70s. As Laura investigates, she uncovers connections to the mysterious Chinese Jack, a spy whose identity was never revealed, and a past that refuses to stay buried. Laura and Orla are enjoying a summer holiday on the beach when a body washes ashore. When two witnesses disagree over whether the thief wore a duck or goose mask, the town becomes divided. Every year, an exclusive club made entirely of people named Ian gathers for its annual meeting. This year, one of the Ians is murdered. Distrusting the police, the club hires Laura to investigate instead. The annual Teflon Individual competition returns with a series of bizarre challenges, including comforting a crying orphan while baking a berry pie and swimming around the island in a dinosaur costume. But the event takes a dark turn when one of the judges  dies during the pie-tasting round. The grand opening of finger painter Jan Van Doodle’s latest exhibition descends into chaos when the centerpiece painting vanishes. Ignoring Sgt. Henry’s orders to stay out of the case, Laura gathers the key witnesses at Neptune Café with the promise of free coffee and launches her own investigation.
