Writes4Women is all about celebrating women's voices and supporting women's rights. It’s about writing the voice, reading the voice and being the voice. It's where women are invited to take up as much space as they want and we do!Every month co-hosts Pamela Cook (the professional author) and Kel Butler (the total newbie) take the audience along with them as they write their own books. Pam's 5th and Kel's 1st. In MENTORING MOMENTS Pam mentors Kel as she writes her book, focussing on a particular writing challenge each month and setting tasks that everyone can apply at home. ASK PAM is where Pam picks a writing challenge sent in by someone from our audience and provides advice on how to tackle it. Then we put a SPOTLIGHT ON AN EMERGING AUTHOR. Each season W4W will follow an emerging author who has completed their novel and is now seeking publication. This season we are following Rae Cairns and each month we will talk to her about a different part of her writing process which we all hope

S03E05 Penelope Janu "On the Same Page"

Pam chats with Australian commercial fiction author, Penelope Janu, about her clever new book "On the Same Page" and how she forged through the judgement of the genre to write romance books, with an edge of humour, that everybody loves.  Then Pam and Kel deconstruct that very judgment. Judgement of readers, writers and genres in general. Asking the questions - what are we judging people for and why? And how does that judgement subconsciously effect us as writers? There's lots of juicy discussion on the Writes4Women podcast.  To listen to all of the Writes4Women podcast episodes go to www.writes4women.com OR SUBSCRIBE (free and painless) at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher or wherever you get your pods. #w4wpodcast #PenelopeJanu #writing #romance #fiction #women #publishing #writinglife #WritingCommunity   SHOWNOTES: Writes4Women Web - www.writes4women.com Facebook - @writes4women Twitter / Instagram - @w4wpodcast Pamela Cook Web -www.pamelacook.com.au Facebook - @pamelacookauthor Twitter - @PamelaCookAU Kel Butler Facebook / Twitter - @kelbutler & @listenuppodcasting Penelope Janu Web -www.penelopejanu.com Facebook / Twitter - @PenelopeJanu

On the Convo Couch with "Marlee Jane Ward"

"I’m a writer, reader and weirdo from Melbourne, Australia." Is how Marlee Jane Ward describes herself on her website and she is all of those things in the most delightful way BUT Marlee isn't just any ordinary writer...as Kel fast discovers in this interview.  Marlee's preferred literary world is Speculative Fiction, she is obsessed with doomsday scenarios and post apocalyptic worlds and her first 2 books "Welcome to Orphancorp" and "Psynode" were both nominated for an Aerealis Award, they were that good.  It's clear that Marlee Jane Ward is an exciting new voice on the literary scene and we aren't the only ones who think so!  CONTENT WARNING: Marlee is open and candid about her mental health in this interview. On the Convo Couch with "Lynnette Lounsbury"

Lynnette Lounsbury is an exciting voice breaking through the YA and Sci Fi writing scene. Her first book "Afterworld" explores death from a philosophical perspective, her second book "We Ate the Road Like Vultures" is a feminist exploration of Beatnik writing inspired by Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" and her upcoming novel tackles the complicated subject of religious fanaticism and it's deep psychological impact, something she has intimate experience with.  Each book thoroughly excavates it's subject matter, allowing the reader to think as much as be entertained by the rhythm of her words.  As well as writing edgy, gripping books, Lynnette is a lecturer of History and Media, is doing a PHD about colonisation and science fiction, is a mum to 2 very entrepreneurial, creative whizz kids; is married to a documentary maker and is the keeper of one very sooky dog. In short she is awesome and a great role model to other women who don't want to pretend they can do it all but give it a go anyway.  #w4wpodcast #lynnettelounsbury #allen&unwin #writing #YA #SCIFI #religion #women #publishing #death #jackkerouc #beatnik #podcasts   SHOWNOTES: Writes4Women Web - www.writes4women.com Facebook - @writes4women Twitter / Instagram - @w4wpodcast   Pamela Cook Web - www.pamelacook.com.au Facebook - @pamelacookauthor Twitter - @PamelaCookAU Kel Butler Facebook / Twitter - @kelbutler & @listenuppodcasting Lynnette Lounsbury Web - www.lynnettelounsbury.com Twitter @linet3177 Facebook @lynnettelounsbury

FWF 09 - "Mentoring Feminists, Mentoring Writers"

In the "Mentoring Feminists, Mentoring Writers" session, from the 2018 Feminist Writers Festival, writers and editors Jennifer Mills, Natalie Kon-Yu and Jacinda Woodhead discuss the importance of active mentoring in the creative arts. Mentoring is a critical part of the creative life, but something women and non-binary writers are often excluded from. Without mentoring, writers and artists can miss out on important networks or opportunities; sometimes, it can be hard to even get a foot in the door.
