Like Fire ● Rick Shaffer
Rick Shaffer’s track, Like Fire, is a late night classic full of haunting emotion that’s a poignant overdose tale that harkens back to the psychedelic undertow of Jim Morrison and The Doors. The song contains some guitar work stylings like the work Shaffer did with The Reds on the Band of the Hand soundtrack. His guitar work has mysterious, taut and razor sharp phrasing and, not to be ignored, his vocal is a dark soulful rasp with an undiminished singers’ poetic passion.

Some Say is track 2 on Rick Shaffer’s 2014 album release, MISADVENTURE, and it has him back in the garage again, with some of his best songs, performance and production to date. The ragged edges, room echo, distortion, great hooks, and underlying menace are right in place for some compelling tension and adrenaline drenched garage blues.

Cool Treatment ● Rick Shaffer
Written and produced by Shaffer, STACKED DECK continues the "sonic minimalist” blueprint of his previous solo albums. The sound combines hard fuzz guitar driven garage-blues, a blues edged two step, lazy insistent rolling beat, new colors in the harmonica and spoons style percussion, along with an unadorned and unaffected blues narrative.

Soon afterwards, the 12" record and audio cassette were deleted making them highly sought after by fans of the film. Currently, the film is a cult classic and can be viewed almost daily on various cable channels all over the world, while the soundtrack has become a huge collectors item. In 1984, The Reds®, consisting of founding members Rick Shaffer and Bruce Cohen, found themselves in a situation, not unfamiliar. The evidence is on their five song extended play album, Shake Appeal, named after the track on the Raw Power album, recorded by one of their musical influences, Iggy Pop. The results are best exemplified on tracks "Laughing," "Waiting For You" and the closer "Beat Away" which has a booming Joy Division feel propelled by Shaffer's haunting vocals and disturbing lyrics. Re-released in 2013 worldwide by Warner Bros., and in 2014 by Tarock Music in the USA. It’s time to listen with new ears.
