    Snow Tides

This long overdue episode highlights the music of Norwegian composer Erik Wøllo, whose album Snow Tides was released in early March of this year. He has been composing and performing since 1980, and his musical range is wide indeed -- from rock and jazz to experimental electronic and classical music. His works have been used in film, theatre, ballet, and art exhibitions. Although he has composed for strings, woodwinds, and larger orchestras, his primary instrument is guitar, and he uses it in extraordinarily imaginative and expressive ways. Today we will hear a sampling from his new album as well as some previous releases. Snow Tides Luminara Snow Tides Glacial Veil Astral Travelers Arctic Moon Falling Show, Whispering Tides Solastalgia Prayer for Rain Recurrence Stargazers Different Spaces Memory Space North Star North Star Earth Luminous Light and Ground I'll play live in the second hour (but not for the whole hour this time). The live set will be called Glacier Collapse. A glacier in Antarctica has been recorded retreating at the fastest rate in modern history. Our earth is changing before our eyes.

    The Overview Effect

It takes an extraordinary team of people, with technology that defies imagination, along with exceptional courage, to send humans into space. Each time we do, we contribute to something greater than our individual selves. The successful Artemis II journey reminds us that together we are capable of great achievements when we focus on collaborating, working toward a common goal. Today we celebrate space travel. Cypress Rosewood: “Live at the International Spaceflight Museum Part 8” (Live at the International Spaceflight Museum) brokenkites: “Waystations in Space” (A Desaturated Version of Tomorrow) Incandescent Void: “Falling Through Timeless Space Eternal” (Aether et Umbra) M.NOMIZED: “Space Sailing Ship” (Minimal Stories) Dreamhub: “Zero Gravity” (Moments in Space) Jim Ottaway: “In Search of the Lost Star” (Deep Space Blue) Imaginary Landscape: “The Deep Space Between” (Undiscovered Landscapes) SPACECRAFT: “Explorations In Space” (Hummel) Brannan Lane: “Ambient Space Dreams” (Ambient Singles, Vol. 1) Robert Carty: “Enveloping Space” (Starlight Volume 1) In the second hour, the live set is called Greater Than Ourselves, and is a tribute to all the people who imagined and brought to life the Artemis II mission. “Staring Out At the Vasty Dark” “Love You to the Moon and Back”

    A Wind In the Door

Wind finding its way through and under doors, window, and other gaps, can be incredibly eerie. This episode explores the wind. ʞu¡0ɹʞS: “Ghosts” (Over. Tone.) This track was crafted from the sound of high wind through heavy steel doors in a studio that ʞu¡0ɹʞS had in Los Angeles years ago. The sound was so bizarre! You hear us exclaiming at the beginning of the track (we were in a recording session at the time), and we decided we had to let the wind do its thing before we could resume. I then processed the sound using Paulstretch and other effects, layered my voice over the track, and this is the result. Lily Pond Orchestra: “Weaving the Wind” (Olde Ghosts) Wavestar: “Voyager” (Moonwind) DeepWarmth: “Winds” (Nature 3) Headzic: “Wind Rider” (Flow) The live set in the second hour is called The Wind Breathes a Ghost.

    Hope and Fear

Fear and hope often live together in an uneasy collaboration. Today we explore both emotions, and the boundaries between the two. John DuVal: “River of Fear (slight reprise)” (Heavy Water) Nettless: “The Lurking Fear” (From Beyond) Gypsy Witch: “Hopes, Fears and Longing” (Unspoken) Simon Slator: “One Man’s Hope” (Halo) Michael Brückner: “A Greater Hope” (The Undercurrent) Lutz Thuns & Wolfgang Gsell: “Hope” (The Moon Is Low) In the second hour, the live set is called Fear and Hope.

    Colder Sun

Last week we did a show called Cold Sun, and in the course of the show I was asked if I were going to play anything by the project called Cold Sun. I confess I had forgotten about this particular project (shame on me!), and we didn’t have any of the music in our library… until now. This week I’m making up for it by playing tracks from Cold Sun, also known as Simon Slator, a longtime ambient artist based in the UK. Antarctica Mount Erebus Antarctica Rain Piano in the Rain L’arc-en-ciel In the second hour, the live set will be called Colder Sun and is inspired by the sounds of Cold Sun.

    Cold Sun

It’s interesting how random remarks in life cause crazy inspiration. This past week I read a weather update from our local (very skilled) meteorologist who referred to the “cold sun” — and that hooked me. So here’s a very chilly show about the sun in winter, and other types of cold light. playman54: “Misty Light Through Skeleton Trees” (Reflections of Winter Landscapes) Christopher Short – Guitartronics: “Strange Lights in the Mist” (Winter Soundscapes 2014) ontol: “the sign of a sideways winter never showing you should” (photocopies) Darkened Soul: “Winter’s Cold Stare” (Seasons of Dark and Light) mindSpiral: “Winter Garden” (Curiosa Positronica) George L Smyth: “Winter Sun” (Haiku Music, Volume 5) usr/sbin: “Night Fog, Morning Sun” (Deep Winter, North Texas Skies) zucchini: “grey sky” (winter EP) Juta Takahashi: “The Door into Winter” (The Door into Winter) The live set in the second hour is called Cold Sun. Snow Moon

Today is the full “Snow” moon, shining its cold light on the winter world. Loneward: “Hush Upon the Wind” (Moongate) Conni St. Pierre: “Setting Moon” (Between the Branches: Legends Of The Wild) Roy Mattson: “Melancholy Moon” (Melancholy Moon) Jack Hertz: “Late Last Night We Played With The Moon” (FOURTH WORLD IS – Jon Hassell Tribute) James Shain: “Did the Moon Shine” (Windowless Journey) In the second hour, the live set is called Snow Moon, and is inspired by the Winter Embrace series by Altus, which is one of the sets of works that got ʞu¡0ɹʞS into ambient music in the first place, and has been in many ways a model of the production values I’ve been chasing lo these many years.

    Ice Ice Baby

A large swath of the US is covered in dangerous ice and freezing rain this weekend. The ʞu¡0ɹʞS household has taken refuge outside the worst of it, but we know that some others of the RadioSpiral family are stuck in it. So today’s program is all about the ice, and we’re keeping good thoughts about all the folks stuck in the cold. No live set today — I didn’t bring the right gadgets to play a live show today. There’s also no video stream today. Janne Hanhisuanto: “Icescapes Movement 1” (Icescapes) Bing Satellites: “On The Ice” (The Visitor) Chris Kuborn: “Ice Caves” (Static Movement) Somnarium: “Ice” (Frost) Ben McCarthy: “beneath the ice, the river still flows [feat. In the Bleak

January and February tend to feel disproportionately long after the lights and anticipation of the winter holidays. But there is beauty in the bleakness, too — the quiet and stillness a good reminder that we can slow down for a while, and look inward. Today we feature a variety of artists from the RadioSpiral library: Sydalesis: “Bleak Landscape” (Living Machine) Altus: “Winter Embrace – Part II” (Winter Embrace (15th Anniversary Edition) George L Smyth: “The Heavy Winter Sun Appears” (Haiku Music – Volume 2) Cousin Silas: “The Stream Never Froze In Winter” (Festive) Lily Pond Orchestra: “Winter Stars Over Lily Pond” (Soft Observations) Christopher Short – Guitartronics: “Step Into the Light” (Winter Soundscapes 2014) grum~pe: “A Bleak Outlook” (Guided Apophenia) Jack Hertz: “Winter Breeze” (Compilated) Erik Wøllo: “Winter Tide, Part 2” (Winter Tide / Live at SoundQuest Fest 2021) Altocumulus: “Gothick Winter” (Unreleased) playman54: “Shadow Tracks of Ghostly Snow Beast” (Reflections of Winter Landscapes) Jack Hertz & Wolfgang Gsell: “A Cold Winter’s Light” (Sleeping Trees On Earth)

    Electric Bones

It’s an odd thing: the title of the live set for today came to me in a dream, with no other guidance. So I’m making today’s show about vibrancy, electricity, vitality, and joy. Bing Satellites: “Electricity” (The ambient world of Bing Satellites, volume one: 2008 – 2010) Broekhuis, Keller & Schönwälder feat. Raughi Ebert & Thomas Kagermann: “Electric Chess” (Repelen Revisited) Spheric Lounge: “Electrically Charged Air” (Session 67 19.11.2006) Church of Hed: “Electric Sepulcher” (Electric Sepulcher) Indigo Symbol: “Electric Temple” (Parallel Worlds) Robert Carty: “Electric Skies” (Ethereal Deserts) M.NOMIZED: “Electric Bubbles” (Minimal Stories) The live set in the second hour is called Electric Bones, and will be an indulgence in joyful dance music. And to close the show, we played Boogie Belgique: “Forever & Ever” (Nightwalker vol 1) 4T Thieves: “Drifting in the Clouds” (The Singles) Erik Wøllo and Byron Metcalf: “Earth Luminous” (Earth Luminous)

    Yuletide

The twelve nights of Yule begin around the solstice, which was last Sunday. These days are a liminal time when the veil between worlds is thin, and spirits, gods, and ancestors should be honored. It is also the time to welcome the return of the sun, who slowly wakes from his winter slumber. Our time starts in darkness, and then turns to greet the light. Welcome, one and all, to our Yuletide celebration! Wolcum Yole! Crows In the Garden: “It’s Growing Dark” (Atom) Michael Brückner: “Ancient Darkness” (Servant Of The Secret Fire (Drones, Atmospheres and Dreamscapes Vol. 1)) Franck Martin: “Dark Dance” (Cold) Kevin Fletcher Tweedy: “Dark Forest” (A Distant Vision) Not Your Average Hippy: “Balance With Nature” (Warm Ground Dark Sky) Dimitris: “Can You Find Me In The Dark” (Black & White) Phillip Wilkerson: “Cradled in Darkness” (Amorphous Worlds) Lucette Bourdin: “Crack of Dawn” (Rising Fog) In the second hour, the live set is another new effort from The Third Course, the collaboration between ʞu¡0ɹʞS and Pallid Mask, and it’s called Wolcom Yole!. Winter Solstice

Today is the Winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere. During these darkest days (and that has more than one meaning of late), it is easy to forget that the sun will return, that the light will come again. We’ll hear tracks from Edges of Solstice, a compilation created for Winter Solstice 2019 for a previous iteration of this show. VÆRNA: “Winter’s Flight” Mr. Spiral: “Cold Blue Night 1 – Prelude in Fugue (Machine)” Robert Scott Thompson: “A Winter’s Sojourn” playman54: “earthlight” Museleon: “Rainbirds” Karl Fury: “Wind, Stars, Ice” In the second hour, the live set is called Darkest Night.

    First Snow

    Unto the Stars

We’re looking to the stars on this edition of I Scream Sunday, hosted by ʞu¡0ɹʞS. Especially as the nights grow colder and the skies clearer, the stars feels as though they’re closer. Journey with us as we look outward. Phillip Wilkerson: “Among the Nebulae – Ambient Mix” (The Stars and Afterward) Robert Logan: “Binary Star” – (Sculptor Galaxy) Simon Wilkinson: “Birth of a Distant Star” (Birth of a Distant Star) Robert Carty: “Galaxy Dreams” (Starlight Volume 2) Ishq: “Arcadian Star” (Moonflower) Carbonates On Mars: “Omega Centauri” (Cosmic Connections One: Stars, Clusters & Nebulae) Bing Satellites: “Star Trails (Ambient World version)” (The ambient world of Bing Satellites) The live set in the second hour is called Drifting Between Stars.

    I Whisper Sunday: Horizons

Today’s I Scream Sunday will be I Whisper Sunday, as I, Whispering Cosmos, takes over the radio broadcast instead of Skro!nk as she cannot do her show. Leading with this beautiful view of the city where I grew up, Málaga, focusing on the horizon, that will be our theme for today. Gaze upon where land, sea and sky join together while we listen to the music of artists like Kuutana, Sevish, Chromadrift, Dreamhub, Luna Firma, Jack Hertz, Cousin Silas, Thom Brennan and Robert Rich. And for the second hour we will have a live section by Whispering Cosmos. Hope to see you all there!

  17. 40

    Steel and Strength

Our lives constantly test us, and if we still breathe, we have passed the test. Existence is a beautiful balance of pain and joy, and having our mettle tested over and over again makes the joyful moments all the more precious. Today’s program explores strength in several forms: Cousin Silas: “Crystallized Steel” (The Snow Imposed Silence) Giles Reaves: “Uruz (Strength)” (Wunjo) Bing Satellites: “Tall Trees” (Song of the Hummingbird) Saul Stokes: “Slowing into Shimmering Steel” (Metacollage) Tange: “Steel Waves Part 3” (Steel Waves) Der Spyra: “Tired Steel” (Live In Berlin.de (Elevator To Heaven Pt. I / Remaster 2016)) Matt Borghi & Loneward: “Lifted, Held Firm” (The Still Guardian) The live set in the second hour is called Heavy Mettle.

  18. 39

    Into the Dark

The darkness closes in as Autumn advances and Winter approaches. We explore the descending darkness that happens both within and without. m00m: “Into the Dark” (Sun Rise) Alpha Wave Movement: “Dark Meridian” (Kinetic) Darkened Soul: “An Ominous Fall” (Seasons of Dark and Light) Cousin Silas: “Down the Darkening Hills” (The Sound of Silas) Dan Pound: “Darkness Falls” (Dreams that Take You) Altus: “Umbra” (Dark) Headzic: “Waiting for the Dark” (Safe Harbour) The live set in the second hour is called Descending Dark, and is an exploration of the inner darkness that sometimes keeps pace with the outer.

  19. 38

    The Thinning Veil

The Veil is thin this time of year, and especially around the end of October and early November. We say goodbye to those we have lost, and honor all the ancestors who have gone before. Different Skies: “The Voices Behind the Veil” (Strange Lines and Distances) Michael Brückner: “My Veil of Darkness” (Ombra – Revisited) Tony Gerber: “Ancestors Across the Bridge” (Sound Medicine for Now) Peter Phippen: “Beyond the Veil” (Into the Ancient) Arcanum: “Shadowland” (The Ancient Saga) In the second hour, the live set is called The Thinning Veil.

  20. 37

    Autumn Light

The light in autumn is its own phenomenon: on crisp days or hazy, it takes on a golden hue. Reflecting from the changing leaves, and as an effect of the lengthening shadows, it feels… precious. Nature gives us this fleeting gift of gold before her grey cloak settles across the land for winter. RadioSpiral artists have been inspired by autumn over the years, and composed some truly great music, so today’s program celebrates them. Bing Satellites: “The Colours of Autumn” (Twilight Sessions Volume 8) Altus: “Green to Gold” (Autumn Breeze) Cobalt Rabbit: “autumn hymn” (fall apart beautifully) Lucette Bourdin: “Autumn Light” (Rising Fog) The Color of Sleep: “Autumn Red IV” (AutumnRed) Scott Lawlor: “The Autumn Sky” (Pianissimo) Caul: “Just one autumn for ripe songs” (Let the Stars Assume the Whole of Night) Juta Takahashi: “Autumn Bringer” (Light and Shadows) Daniel Robert Lahey: “for Autumn (thing_821) (2020 Vision) George L Smyth: “Splitting Autumn’s Sky” (Haiku Music – Volume 2) Una Voce: “Autumn Alchemy” (Butterfly Phantasmagoria) Cousin Silas: “Blue Autumns” (Cousin Silas)

  21. 36

    Focal Point

Focusing on a single point in space can help establish visual perspective; the same is true of mental perspective, and musical as well. Today we examine the centers of things — earth, movement, one’s own heart. Vir Unis & Saul Stokes: “Kinetic Center” (Thermal Transfer) SPACECRAFT: “Center of the Earth” (Inside the Inside) Carbon Entity: “The Center of Nowhere” (Within the Cosmic Void) Spheric Lounge: “The Heartbeat Centers While In a Dream” (Session 69 14.12.2006) Robert Scott Thompson: “Center of It” (Alphabet of the Trees) Different Skies: “Snap to Focus” (Arcs & Angles) In the second hour, the live set is called Focal Point. It is a tour through a museum, so we’ll hear a series of vignettes — a distant cousin and homage to Pictures at an Exhibition, if you will. Birds Landscape Portrait of a Lady Battlefield Still Life Heaven Antiquity Hell

  22. 35

    Cats

Cats large and small are an endless source of fascination — and sometimes entertainment! (But don’t ever tell them that; they rarely have a sense of humor about themselves.) Today’s episode explores the cat: Endorphin: “Running Cats” (Red EP) QX#55: “Cats Could Catch Cough” (After Technic There Was Music) usr sbin: “Cats Paw” (Unreleased [Live in Second Life]) jarguna: “Twilight, Grasshopper, Cat…” (A Peaceful Granular Day) m00m: “Cat That Ate the Stars” (Sun Rise) Ma Ja Le: “Alley Cat Sings Midnight Blues” (Dreams In the Orchards of Saturn) ontol: “Small Black and White Cat, Missed.” (photocopies) Tone Ghost Ether: “Ming Ling Cat” (Hydrogen 2 Oxygen) In the second hour, the live set is called Consider the Cat.

  23. 34

    Circles

A circle can be a metaphor for many things. As a noun, “circle” can refer to one’s orbit of friends, or the planets, or protection; as a verb, it can be an embrace, a threat, or a comfort. Today we explore many different circles. Kit Watkins: “Circle of Rain” (Circle) Different Skies: “Circle for Position” (Arcs & Angles) Max Corbacho: “Three Circles” (The Talisman) Erik Wøllo: “Circle Dream” (Different Spaces) Robert Rich: “Circle Unwound” (Echo of Small Things) Robert Scott Thompson: “Stone Circles and Carin” (As First Star Wakes, She Wanders There) Arcanum: “Circle of Dreams” (Man In The Mirror) In the second hour, the live set is called Circles on the Ground. Especially in such maddening, fragile times, we need to remember to remain close to the earth, close to one another; touch the things we can, draw peace and strength from these connections. - The Gathering - Ritual Dance - The Family We Choose

    Autumn Equinox

Tomorrow is the Autumn Equinox in the northern hemisphere so, predictably, we’re doing a show about it. In the Southern Appalachians, the nights are cooling and the days are pleasant. The leaves are starting to turn and we’re trying to find our balance in a world gone crazy. The equinox is a perfect time to seek that balance and focus on finding both personal and collective equilibrium. Music is a great way to do that! Ishq: “Autumn Still” (In Memoriam) C. Reider: “Crickets fall silent in Autumn” (Disappointment Engine) Fanger & Kersten: “Autumn Kiss” (Splashdown) Shane Morris: “Equinox” (Equinox) Lucette Bourdin: “Spirit of the Equinox” (Nordic Waves, Vol. 4: Autumn) Sequentonal: “Autumns Dawn” (Autumns Dawn) In the second hour, we’ll feature another live collaboration between yours truly and Al Baldwin, aka Pallid Mask — the joint project is The Third Course, and the live set is called Helios and Nyx.

  25. 32

    Late Summer

Summer is winding down in the northern hemisphere. The days are warm and sultry with the tiniest hint of chill in the evenings; leaves are just starting to show peeks of gold and red, and the light is cast in a particular hue. This episode walks through these last few days and nights of summer, out of dreams, through meadows, and into night. Cousin Silas: “August Dreams” (The Silas Summer Sampler) Bing Satellites: “Late Summer Meadows” (Twilight Sessions volume 1) Lucette Bourdin: “August Buzz” (Nordic Waves, Vol. 3: Summer) EugeneKha: “The Lost August” (The Lost) Wolfgang Gsell: “August Night Walk” (Harmony) Mika Pontecorvo: “Reliquary: late august night path through fog bound forest in central Finland” (Stone Tales) In the second hour, the live set, called But Soft, is once again in two parts: “Cotton Ball Clouds” “EvenSong” This one will be great to hear in headphones! 🎧

  26. 31

    Journey

Yesterday’s Morning Cup of Calm was about the end of the road and what it might mean… the lessons one has learned, the memories made, the places and people one has met along the way. Today we look at the journey itself, and all it might bring us: the stars in the sky, the stops along the way, and the faith to continue, even in adversity. Team Metlay: “The Wheel of Stars” (Beneath Stars) EugeneKha: “Love the Sky” (POP-UP (Tape Cassette Version)) Dimitris: “The Wheel Stopped Turning” (Black Ambience) Conni St. Pierre: “Raining Lights” (Beneath the Waves: Legends of Lost Cities) Lutz Thuns: “The Whole City” (The Music Plants Trees) Fiesel & Hertz: “Inlet Bay” (The Lighthouse) ontol: “What We Believed All This Time Wasn’t Real” (photocopies) Phillip Wilkerson: “Elements of Belief” (Familiar Voices) Larry Gaab: “Brave Belief” (Outside Meanings) Akikaze: “Leap of faith” (Blue Sky Events) In the second hour, the live set will be called The Road Leads to You.

    Voices In the Night

The mysteries of the night are many and varied. Mystical, frightening, comforting, gentle — it is a place to hide, to rest, to drift, to explore, Today we visit the night with tracks from the RadioSpiral library. Thom Brennan: “Night Lights part 3” (Night Lights) Sydalesis: “Night Passage” (Trivium) Fritz Mayr: “Night Forest” (This Music Plants Trees) David Gerard: “Nightfalls” (The Dream Chamber) Robert Carty: “Windswept Vista” (Midnight Rainbows) Meg Bowles: “Nightwalk Across the Isle of Dream” (The Shimmering Land) Broekhuis, Keller & Schoenwaelder: “Mysteries of a Full Moon Night” (Berlin – Culemborg) Wings of an Angel: “Those Spiritual Nights Out” (Lemon Stardust) Dan Pound: “Crack Between the Worlds” (Nightwatch) Lucette Bourdin: “Night Sun” (Stories from the City) Cousin Silas: “The Forgotten Village (Midnight Radio vol. 1)” (Gallimaufry)

    Voices of Rhythm

The rhythm of a heartbeat, of the days, of the tides, of the seasons — rhythms are all around us, and in us even before birth. Slow or fast, we live in beats. Today we celebrate those beats. Let’s dance!

  30. 27

    The Tapestry of Life

We are inextricably woven into life around us, both in the physical world, and in our relationship with it. Today we explore this idea through music. Daniel Robert Lahey: “Twilight Tapestry (thing_034)” (weather or not) SPACECRAFT: “Thread of Continuity” (Earthtime Tapestry) anantakara, featuring Mukti: “Unweave the Stars” (The Never Dying Fire) Spheric Lounge: “Rachel’s Spiders” (Session 40 27.12. to 30.12.2005) Holosphere: “Weaver” (Holosphere) George L. Smyth: “A Snowflake, A Cobweb” (Haiku Music, Vol 5) Lily Pond Orchestra: “Weaving the Wind” (Olde Ghosts) Robert Logan: “The Weaver” (Sculptor Galaxy) And in the second hour, the live set is called Tapestry.

  31. 26

    The Voice of the Desert

She howls, she hums, she whispers menacingly; she sings, she laughs, she quiets. The desert does what she cans to sustain life on her terms. This episode was inspired by a call that Aural Films put out for tracks about the desert. The desert landscape has been a popular theme in electronic music from the start with the debut of “Deserts” by Edgar Varese in 1954. The soundtrack for a movie that did not exist, was the first composition to combine electronic and orchestral music in the same piece. Ever since, electronic music artists from Brian Eno to Vangelis have been creating their own slow evolving soundtracks for these unique biomes. In the first hour, we’ll hear tracks from the RadioSpiral library: Jacob Newman: “Great Salt Desert” (Reflections and Diffusions0 ontol: “(Desert) Souls and Sand” (Auraline) Alpha Wave Movement: “Desert Light” (The Regions Between) Robert Carty: “In High Deserts” (Skyhearts) Robert Otto: “Desert Crossing” (Into the Unknown) Una Voce: “Gathering Desert Food” (Provenance) The Lovely Moon: “Driving Across the Desert” (Journeys to Peach & Happiness) In the second hour, your host will perform live as usual, but with a twist: a contribution from collaborator Al Baldwin makes this a track from The Third Course, a new collaborative project.

  32. 25

    The Voices of Summer (Solstice)

This weekend we celebrate the Summer Solstice! The days are long, nights are warm, wildlife is active...and so are the tourists. We'll hear from a variety of RadioSpiral artists in the first part of today's program: Darkened Soul: "Sublime Summer" (Seasons of Dark and Light) George L Smyth: "Summer Sleep" (Haiku Music Volume 7) Lucette Bourdin: "Twilight" (Nordic Waves, Vol. 3: Summer) Gypsy Witch: "Mojito" (Gypsy's Summer Brews) Robert Scott Thompson: "Summer Twilight (Resonance)" (Alchemy) James Shain: "Early Summer in the Temple" (The Temples that Fell) Pallid Mask: "Midsummer" (The Wheel) Robert Rich: "Summer Thunder" (Echo of Small Things) In the second hour, the live set is called The Plagues of Summer.

  33. 24

    Voices of Else

In this edition of I Scream Sunday, we travel along possibilities elsewhere and elsewhen. We'll visit dreams and imagination, and travel across time, space, and universes, starting with the immortal track that got your host started in electronic and experimental music. Different Skies: "Teilhard's Stepchildren" (Imaginary Spaces) REMY: "The Perfect Dream" (The Other Side) Numina: "Elsewhere and Here" (The Haunting Silence) Altus: "A Different Universe" (Black Hole) Thom Brennan: "Another Time and Space part 2" (Another Time and Space) In the second hour, the live set is called Else, performed live by ʞu¡0ɹʞS.

  34. 23

    A Woman's Voice

We highlight women creators on this episode of I Scream Sunday. The voices are as varied as the composers themselves. Poemme: “Clouds of Breath” (Soft Ice) Meg Bowles: “Venus Rising” (The Shimmering Land) Tantroniq: “neXt (Premiere Version)” (neXt) VÆRNA: “Winter’s Flight” (Edges of Solstice) Lucette Bourdin: “Last Small Spark” (Drum-atic Atmospheres) As part of Sci-Fi Con in Second Life, we were challenged to create a sci-fi mashup theme around “Eragon vs. Alien”. I decided to create a live set for the second hour honoring the smart woman who survived. Some years back, Adam Shaftoe tweeted: Soooooo I have been writing reviews for about ten years. My wife’s review of Alien puts everything I have ever written to shame. “Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat. Four stars.” In the fight between Eragon and Alien, who wins? Ripley.

  35. 22

    A Voice in the Silence

“Dare to declare who you are. It is not far from the shores of silence to the boundaries of speech. The path is not long, but the way is deep. You must not only walk there, you must be prepared to leap.” - Hildegard von Bingen Music can help us achieve a kind of stillness that's elusive in the modern world. Out of the silence comes inspiration, motivation, wonder, awe. We'll hear music that's all about quiet and silence on this week's episode of I Scream Sunday. Voices in the Wind

The wind carries stories of life, of our home on this earth, and of our own joys and sorrows. It whispers, it sings, it roars, it rages. Voices of the Animals

This weekend is Imbolc. Even though winter is still in full voice, we celebrate the very first hints of spring — maybe crocuses are starting to poke their little heads up; maybe we’ll see animals preparing nests for new births. So we continue our theme of voices in the natural world this week with an episode focusing on the critters around us: horses, dogs, cats, elephants, sea horses, insects, and more. In the first hour we’ll listen to a collection of tracks from the RadioSpiral library: Ozone Player: “Dogs On a Beach” (Videozone) Ozone Player: “Lemons and Lizards” (Orange Apples) Lucette Bourdin: “Mystic Horse” (Horse Heaven) Ma Ja Le: “Alley Cat Sings Midnight Blues” (Dreams in the Orchards of Saturn) Forrest Fang: “Seahorses and Aeolians” (Forever Cascades) Franck Martin: “Firefly” (Suspended Times) Kit Watkins: “Elephants and Ants” (Holographic Tapestries II) Palancar: “Insect Melodrama” (Precis) Cloudwalk: “Creatures of the Air” (Forgotten World) In the second hour, rather than a live set this week, you’ll hear highlights from Saving Cecil’s Pride, an album that we produced ten years ago after Cecil the Lion was shot by a trophy hunter in Africa. Proceeds from sales of this album are still directed to Big Life Foundation, a conservation group that works in Kenya and Tanzania to protect elephants, lions, rhinos, and other wildlife from poachers and trophy hunters. Cousin Silas: “Lost Latitudes” Pas de la Dame Sauvage: “At the Water’s Edge” VÆRNA: “Requiem for Cecil” Wings of an Angel: “Saving Mankind Begins with Respect to All Lifeforms” Tim Kays: “Kings of the Kopje” Chris Anderson: “Shavi e Shumba Ofora Pamberi (the spirit of the lion(s) marches forever forward)” The eloquent final commentary on this program was written by George Miler, the co-producer of Saving Cecil’s Pride. Voices of the Green World

It might seem strange to create a show around the green world in the dead of winter, but nature has her own wisdom. Deep underground, spring is already starting, even as winter lies across the frozen land. So in this episode of I Scream Sunday, we’ll get to know the green world a little bit. In the first hour, we’ll hear tracks from the RadioSpiral library: Jack Hertz & Wolfgang Gsell: “Ever Greens” (Sleeping Trees On Earth) EugeneKha: “Green Heart of Earth” (Green Quest) Scott Lawlor: “Green Pine Needles in Autumn” (Biolumenescence) Natural Life Essence: “Ancient Tree (Listen Tales Ritual) (Plants and Trees) Sacred Moments: “Desert Roots” (January 2018 Week 3) Robert Carty: “Organic Seas” (Ecoroots) And then in the second hour, I’ll play another live set that focuses on the world around us, teeming with life even in winter: The Greening Below Ground.
