For my 50th episode, I sit down with returning guest and political bestie, Faith Martin. We discuss something I have recently become obsessed with: Wichita’s rich history of political activism. From the Dockum Drug Store Sit-Ins in 1958, to the Herman Hill Riot in 1979, the Summer of Mercy in 1991, all the way to the historic Vote No efforts of 2022. The citizens of Wichita are no stranger to banding together against racial inequality and women’s rights and I believe that legacy is still very strong. I know that many of us feel like the cards are stacked against us in today’s political atmosphere, but Faith and I are here to let you know there is ALWAYS something you can do to make a difference!

In my 49th episode I sit down with my friends Betsy, a Republican Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician, and Jade, who just got done running as a Democrat for the Kansas House of Representatives. Jade and I talk about our experiences as candidates this past cycle and we all discuss how we’re feeling after the results. We also discuss what is next for each of us. We hope this convo helps others heal and find purpose moving forward!

In my 48th episode I cover all things budget season! Most municipalities are going through the tedious process of setting their budgets for next year. I have been involved in reviewing both Sedgwick County and the City Of Wichita’s budgets, as well as attending hearings and meetings. I have granted Sedgwick County “The Good,” the City of Wichita “The Bad,” and specifically the City of Wichita’s lack of supporting it’s firefighters as “The Ugly.” I also give a Hayse for Senate campaign update and share about a new effort here in Kansas: the Porcupine Club.

In my 47th episode I sit down with a handful of delegates from Kansas who attended the Libertarian National Convention last month in Washington D.C. My guests are: Dan Gaeddert, Hayden Maples, Mark Robinson, Eric Lund, and Mark Davis. For the first time attendees, we talk their expectation vs reality. Then we all give our highs and lows of the convention. We talk some developments since convention and we end with sharing what we are working on now that convention season is over. In my 44th episode I sit down with one of my oldest and dearest friends Maggie. We talk about how through therapy she has been able to unpack certain traumatic events that she has held onto since our teenage years. Please note that neither one of us are a therapist by trade, we are simply sharing our stories, not necessarily giving advice. We are both big advocates for seeking professional help! We discuss an attack on her family that happened when she was 14, our experience at a small town pregnancy crisis center, her abortion (performed by Dr. Tiller), and all the grief that followed including the death of the baby’s father. Finally we hear about how her life has come full circle as she is a loving mother and nurse who works in urgent care to help others in their time of crisis. We discuss the difference between big L and little l libertarianism, the history and goals of the Mises Caucus, wokeism, and what she is currently working on. In my 36th episode, I sit down with my cousin Serina who is not only a wife and mother, but also works as an Ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene, AND as a Forensic Scientist/Crime Scene Investigator. Hear from her directly on how her two roles “often intersect” but also the areas where they are the most different. I asked her her opinion on all those CSI-type shows and even the craziest scene she’s ever had to visit. In my 35th episode, I interview my cousin Angela; who went from working in IT for the Marine Corps to being a Civil Litigation Defense Paralegal. In my 34th episode, I start off talking about the CJ Lofton incident that happened here in Wichita. CJ was a 17 year old boy that the cops were called on for “erratic” behavior. He ended up in a juvenile facility where his subsequent death was ruled a homicide. This week, the DA stated no criminal charges could be made in the case, stating the “Stand Your Ground” law. At about 8:10, I switch gears and discuss my most recent blog post. I share how learning about demons in the bible has helped my overall mental health. I’d love to hear your thoughts on both topics. In my 33rd episode, I discuss two documentary news programs I recently watched, both now available on Hulu. One is called, “Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson.” Produced by the New York Times, the same series that did “Framing Britney Spears,” it talks about the 2004 Super Bowl incident.
