    In Defense of Gentlemen Broncos

Oooooo it's time for us to defend Gentlemen Broncos! From the brilliant minds of Jared and Jerusha Hess comes this touching and bizarre film about being true to yourself and rediscovering yourself after the death of a family member. After the hugely successful Napoleon Dynamite, and the iconic Nacho Libre, and LONG before this new Minecraft movie, came this little comedy that completely flopped at the box office and was lambasted by critics - a mere 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. But is it really so simple? Come along as we dive into the themes and symbolism of this not-so-hidden gem.   If you enjoy the show, please help us reach more people by dropping a review or a rating! In Defense of Coneheads

The wait is finally over. It is time for us to tackle 1993's Coneheads. This movie, based on the classic reoccurring SNL characters played by Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin sits on Rotten Tomatoes at 37% with a Popcorn Meter rating of 38. But why? How? Beldar and Prymatt (Aykroyd and Curtin) find themselves stranded on the planet Earth and on the run from the INS, as they attempt to blend in and start a family while they await rescue from their fellow Remulak - their home planet. But is Remulak really all its cracked up to be? Is Earth more suited to their family now? What about their daughter, Connie? Filled to the brim with SNL cast members, visual gags, and a surprising amount of heart and depth, this movie deserves the status of cult-classic. Let us explain why... In Defense of Deck the Halls

Ho Ho Ho! Welcome to December! We hope you're ready to get into the spirit of the season with this classic Christmas movie featuring Matthew Broderick, Danny Devito, Kristin Chenoweth and Kristin Davis. When his daughters, Ashley and Emily (played by Kelly and Sabrina Aldridge respectively) alert him to the fact that their new house is the only house in the neighborhood that can't be seen from space, Buddy hatches a plan to spend every last penny he has decorating his house to make it as bright and elaborate as possible. The townsfolk love it, all except for his neighbor across the street: Steve Finch, the stick-in-the-mud control-freak played by Broderick. It's a head-to-head Christmas neighborhood showdown! In Defense of The Phantom

Are you ready to Slam Evil? Back in 1996, this beloved comic book hero was brought to the big screen for the first time. But with a Tomatometer rating of 44%, an Audience Score of 31% and a box office take of only 17.3 million, clearly people were not ready for the campy authenticity of The Phantom. Starring Billy Zane, Kristy Swanson and Treat Williams, this movie has become something of a cult classic. So what happened? Why the icy reception? Come check out this episode as we investigate and discuss the history of this character, the incredible production of this film and what the future could hold for The Phantom.   This episode contains selections of an interview with Billy Zane conducted by, X-Band The Phantom Podcast #133. In Defense of Alien 3

The time has come to finally take on the film that inspired the very concept of this podcast! Dan and Aaron finally take on "Alien 3". With a Tomatometer rating of 43% and an Audience Score of 47%, Alien 3 is a prime example of what studio meddling can do to a beloved franchise. With expectations sky-high after the blockbuster success of 1986's "Aliens" fans were lead to believe that the next installment would bring the mighty Xenomorph to Earth. Turns out 20th Century Fox had other plans. More specifically, 20th Century Fox had no plans at all! With a release date set in stone before a story or script were locked in, the stage was set for box office disappointment. "Why are the innocent punished? Why the sacrifice?" Against all odds, Director David Fincher somehow managed to scrape together a film that is dark, dreary, and wildly divisive among fans. But is it all bad? Not by a long shot! 3 Times the Episode, 3 Times the Defending, 3 Times the Jokes! Let's go! If you enjoy the show, please support us by dropping a rating and subscribing! In Defense of The Predator

Sequel Season is in full-swing as Dan and Aaron take on 2018's "The Predator" Sitting on the Tomatometer at 32% with an Audience Score of 33%, it is pretty easy to see that this film didn't resonate with die-hard or casual fans alike. However, being the most successful film of the franchise does raise a few eyebrows and prompt some investigation. Dan and Aaron discuss the fine lines Director Shane Black had to walk in order to bring this soft reboot to the big screen. They discuss the history of the franchise, the bizarre reshoots, and take a second look at stuff they didn't like about it with fresh eyes. Did nostalgia set unrealistic expectations? Is this movie actually just mad trash? Is there more good to it than meets the eye? Come find out why "The Predator" might actually be a better Predator movie than you think it is. NOTE: This episode has been flagged as Explicit due to some language from the film clips included. Assuming you're a Predator fan, this shouldn't come as a surprise. Dan and Aaron are back - just in time for the world to go full-on Mad Max. Grab a hot dog and take shelter from the doom and gloom with this bizarre film. Dan and Aaron dig into the hilarious mess that is, 2008's "The Happening." With 18% on the Tomatometer, and a 24% Audience Score, this film will have you laughing, crying, and shaking your head all at the same time. Is it a comedic masterpiece, or a completely botched and misguided horror film? Close your windows, lock your doors, and let's dig in and find out. It is time once again to ask ourselves, is M. Night Shyamalan a good filmmaker? If you enjoy the show, please support us by dropping a rating and subscribing! The roads are busy, the stores are crowded, and one regular everyday bodybuilding mattress salesman needs to prove to his wife that he has what it takes to make his son happy! It's Turbo time as two less-than-stellar dads face off in a battle to the death over the Nation's hottest selling action figure: Turbo Man! On this episode, Dan and Aaron plumb the depths of this film, and read way too much into everything in the quest for truth. That truth? What exactly was this movie supposed to be? In Defense of The Stupids

If you grew up in the 90's, you might recall coming across this bizarre gem of a film while channel surfing one lonely afternoon. It starts simple enough: you know, middle-class suburban family with stop-motion pets, nothing serious. Next thing you know, you find yourself in a world of wild and deep rooted conspiracy theories. Who is taking your garbage and why? Who is this "Sender" we keep returning mail to? Do aliens exist? Can you really be your own Grampa? Is Tom Arnold really that bad at rollerblading? Aaron and Dan hop in their time machine elevator and head back to 1996 to tackle all these questions and more! Let's get stupid! In Defense of The Last Witch Hunter

On this episode we welcome back our friend Cody Buhler to the show to talk about "The Last Witch Hunter". Sitting on Rotten Tomatoes at a 17% Critical Rating and a 43% Audience Score, we unpack the many reasons why this particular Vin Diesel vehicle failed to get its franchise due. There's a whole ton going on in this movie for being under 2 hours run-time. But as wacky as the movie can be, there's actually a lot of elements worth a second look. Could Kaulder see a sequel in the future? We hope so. Come find out why! Also, Dan mispronounces the word "Dolan" repeatedly! In Defense of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)

Happy Halloween! Are you ready to dance till you just can't dance? Dan and Aaron head back to 1992 for a nostalgia-fueled journey into campy blood-sucking comedy! Before Sarah Michelle Gellar graced us with her run as Buffy in 1997, there was another. Enter Kristy Swanson: vampire hunter and valley girl extraordinaire. Joss Whedon's first attempt at getting Buffy off the ground is an interesting tale full of many firsts, a bizarre cast, and a lot of strange decisions. Whether you're already fan of this movie, or you didn't know it existed, ring in your Halloween right with some ghoulish fun! Happy Halloween, everyone! In Defense of Jack and Jill

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! There's been a bit of an episode shake-up due to an awesome series of events, as explained in this episode! Therefore ThanksKilling has been swapped to American Thanksgiving! So the time has finally come to discuss Adam Sandler films - Jack and Jill in particular! Come along as Aaron and Dan discuss Adam Sandler's impressive career trajectory, and the impact he's had on Hollywood. And as far as Jack and Jill goes, why does this movie have so much product placement? Why are there so many cameos? How much bodily humor is too much? Does it really deserve a 3% Critical Rating on Rotten Tomatoes? So much to discuss! Come kick off the long weekend with us! Don't forget to drop us a rating and subscribe! In Defense of Godzilla (1998)

After swimming half-way around the world and crossing the Panama Canal, Godzilla is finally ready to make her nest and hatch her young! Much can be said about 1998's failed Americanized Godzilla, but that doesn't mean there isn't some stuff worth liking here! Dan and Aaron embark on a nostalgia-fueled journey into late-90's advertising campaigns, craftsmanship, and visual effects, and explore the rich and troubled production of this failed trilogy. Also, Dan pitches a wild conspiracy theory about this film that may actually make sense... Don't forget to subscribe and drop us a rating! Dan and Aaron talk The Boys

On this special episode, Dan and Aaron subvert the genre of their own podcast to talk about a show that famously subverts a genre! It's Amazon Studios' The Boys! So it's not a movie, and it's not terrible, so why are they talking about it? It's a jam-packed episode about the state of streaming services, identity, superhero fatigue, parody, and adaptation. They pick up where they left off on their characterization conversation in "In Defense of The Last Airbender" and dive deep into why this series speaks volumes about the current state of Hollywood.  Due to the nature of "The Boys" this episode has been rated Explicit in order to discuss some of its darker elements. Also a correction from this episode: This series does indeed have a Rotten Tomatoes Score: 83% Critical, and 94% Audience. Dan and Cody talk The Rise of Skywalker

People have a lot of very strong opinions about the current state of Star Wars under Disney's leadership. Many fans were sent reeling after Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi - taking to the internet to vent their anger and frustrations. Now, with the final film in the Skywalker Saga fast approaching, many are asking, "Will this one unite the fractured fan base? Or plunge it into darkness forever and ever?" Is such a thing even possible? Are people forgetting how good of a time it is to be a Star Wars fan right now? Dan sits down with friend of the show, Cody Buhler to deep-dive all things Star Wars Episode 9! They discuss the state of the fandom, and share their deep thoughts and predictions on The Rise of Skywalker!  Twitter: @DefenseofMovies Instagram: indefenseofmoviepodcast Reddit: /r/IDOMoviePodcast Email: [email protected] https://indefenseofpodcast.podbean.com/   Intro music composed by Gavin Luke Outro music composed by Johannes Bornlof Used under license from Epidemic Sound

In Defense of The Last Airbender

If it's one thing that both critics and fans of the beloved series can agree on, it's that M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" failed to deliver the goods. In fact, as far as sheer anger goes, this one really seems to take the cake. From name pronunciations to major character arc omissions, "The Last Airbender" is a fascinating cautionary tale on how NOT to approach an adaptation. So the question is, how do you defend a movie that the very creators of the source material hate and pretend doesn't exist? Come along on the journey as Aaron leads Dan through the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Is there anything worth admiring here? They have thoughts. Come along on this self-proclaimed epic journey from Writer/Producer/Director/Fan of Destruction Roland Emmerich! On this episode, Dan and Aaron discuss historical accuracy in film - exploring both sides of the argument, and dig in to a theory as to why mainstream academia may have played a part in the lousy 8% Critical Rating this film receives on Rotten Tomatoes! In Defense of All About Steve

Is it solvable? Is it entertaining? Does it sparkle? This is the metric by which Sandra Bullock's character, Mary Magdalene Horowitz judges crossword puzzles. But now, Dan and Aaron must ask the same thing of this 2009 "Rom-Com" misfire in their ongoing quest for redemption. But what started as a simple task takes an extraordinary and unexpected turn, and nearly melts their brains. This episode is All About Steve. Do not miss it! In Defense of Battlefield Earth

You knew this was coming. It's impossible to talk about legendarily bad movies without eventually mentioning John Travolta's epic Sci-Fi misfire, Battlefield Earth. Dutch angles, terrible special effects, Scientology, George Lucas, - there's a lot to unpack here. But for all this, does Battlefield Earth manage to deserve "so bad it is good" status? Or is it truly as bad as people say it is? Dan and Aaron put their rat brains to the test!
