Welcome to In the Lair, hosted by current Lafayette College student-athletes. As part of the Oaks Leadership Academy, this podcast highlights the voices and experiences of those who make up the unique culture within Lafayette College Athletics. You’ll hear from student-athletes, coaches, staff, and more, as they offer insight into how our leopards balance their responsibilities at a high academic D1 institution.

    Ep. 5: Track and Field Success with Ida and Nava

    In this episode, we hear from sophomore Ida Moczerniuk and senior Nava Chevan about their success this indoor season at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. Ida finished the meet with a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash and a second-place spot in the 200 meters race. Nava scored a second-place finish in the 800 meters  and helped the 4X400 meter team place seventh. Both of them discuss the importance of a competitive and supportive team culture to prepare them for the big meets. They also share their own memories of freshman year and their own evolution into leadership positions.     Ep. 4: Coach Curcio on the Evolution of Patriot League Track and Field

    In another two-part series, we’re joined by Head Coach Michele Curcio, who has coached at Lafayette for over two decades. During this episode, Coach Curcio discusses the importance of team culture and its connection to team success. Our hosts reflect on how they’ve felt the team culture has evolved during their time on the team, and how strange it was to find a college team during the Covid pandemic. Coach Curcio also reflects on the growth of competition in the Patriot League and how many successful track athletes the league has produced.     Ep. 3: Coach Stone & Lafayette College WFH

    In Part two of a two-part series with the Lafayette Field Hockey team, our student-athletes sit down with Head Coach Jennifer Stone. We discuss what made Coach Stone return to Lafayette as a coach following her field hockey career here as a Leopard as well as what makes her stay. She touches on the evolution of the sport, the evolution of the culture within the Lafayette team, and how to sustain a championship mindset within the program. Coach Stone compares the recruiting process for international student-athletes as opposed to American student-athletes, and the acclimation of incoming freshmen into the team. She also dives into the process of identifying leaders and developing leadership skills with her student-athletes. Also discussed is the difference between this season and previous seasons with the team that won the 2024 Patriot League Championship, and how to push this momentum into future seasons.     Ep. 2: WFH Patriot League Champs

    In part one of a two-part series with the Lafayette Field Hockey team, our student-athletes sit down with India Ralph and Lineke Spaans, two senior co-captains of the team. We discuss favorite moments of the season, including their shutout against Lehigh for the rivalry game. India and Lineke shed light on adjusting their playing styles to fit their opponents as well as the difference between their experiences moving from international field hockey to NCAA field hockey. They look back on their recruiting experiences, what made them choose Lafayette, and how they transitioned to life in Easton. Both India and Lineke discuss their post-graduate plans, and how they are going to implement the leadership skills they developed during their time at Lafayette within their teams at home.     Ep. 1: Rivalry Week with Matt Bayly

    In the first episode of In the Lair, our student-athletes sit down with Matt Bayly, the Associate Director of Athletics for Holistic Wellness & Performance and the Director of Sports Medicine. We cover the long history of the Lafayette-Lehigh rivalry football game that will be played for the 160th time this Saturday, November 22nd. Matt recalls some of his favorite rivalry week traditions that he has seen over his 34 years at Lafayette.  Also discussed is the many communities of alumni, student-athletes, and faculty/staff that this game connects. Additionally, Matt sheds light on the increasing demands and specialization of athletics on student-athletes and the resulting health consequences.
