He joined the NDA in 1971 - one month before the Indo-Pak w@r began. His batch was commissioned early so they could be sent straight to the border. His elder brother, Captain SR Bakshi, was killed in the 1965 w@r. He joined to avenge that death - and spent the next 37 years fighting for this country. He fought in the 1971 w@r on the Eastern Front under Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. He commanded his battalion in Kargil. He led counter-insurgency operations in Kishtwar and Rajouri-Poonch.
