Inside Your Biology
by Wilder Brooks
Inside Your Biology is a deep-dive health and science podcast about what is actually happening inside the human body. Why does inflammation help us heal but also contribute to disease? What does cholesterol really do? Why does blood pressure rise? How does insulin control energy? What changes when we sleep, exercise, age, gain muscle, lose fat, or get sick? Each episode starts with one familiar health question and follows it down into the biology. We explore physiology, medicine, metabolism, nutrition, exercise, sleep, hormones, immunity, aging, disease, prevention, and the research scientists use to understand them. Along the way, we separate established evidence from emerging research, association from causation, biological mechanisms from real-world outcomes, and useful health information from exaggerated wellness claims. This is not a show about miracle cures or diagnosing listeners. It is about understanding the machinery.</p

Muscle: Why Your Body Fights to Keep It
Muscle looks like a system for movement. But biologically, it does far more than move your skeleton. Skeletal muscle stores fuel, helps regulate blood glucose, responds to hormones, adapts to mechanical stress, communicates with other tissues, and becomes increasingly important as we age. In...

Sleep: What Is Your Body Doing While You’re Unconscious?
Every night, consciousness disappears but the body does not simply shut down. Your brain reorganizes activity. Hormones change. Body temperature falls. Memories are processed. Immune signals shift. Metabolism changes. And throughout the night, the brain repeatedly moves through different stages…

Blood Pressure: What Do Those Two Numbers Actually Mean?
Inside the Force That Keeps Blood Moving and Damages Arteries When It Stays Too High Every time your heart beats, it pushes blood through thousands of miles of vessels. That pressure is essential. Without it, oxygen and nutrients would never reach your brain, muscles, kidneys, or other organs.…

Blood Sugar: What Actually Happens After You Eat?
In Episode 3 of Inside Your Biology, we follow a meal through the body to understand how blood sugar is regulated and what changes when that system begins to lose efficiency. We break down what glucose actually is, what insulin really does, how the liver stores and releases energy, why skeletal...

Cholesterol: The Molecule Everyone Loves to Blame
Why Your Body Needs It and When It Becomes Dangerous Cholesterol has spent decades being treated like a villain. But your body makes it on purpose. You need cholesterol to build cell membranes, produce steroid hormones, make bile acids, and support normal human biology. So why is it also so…

Inflammation: The Body’s Fire Alarm
You cut your finger and it becomes red, warm, swollen, and painful. That reaction may be uncomfortable but it is also part of the system helping keep you alive. So why has inflammation become one of the most feared words in modern health? In the first episode of Inside Your Biology, we go inside...
