35: Sol readers, hover air bikes, AI-Diplomacy games and our team trip to Tofino
In this episode, we chat about our week in Tofino at our annual summer summit. We cnat team building, surfing lessons, unexpected hospital visits (whoops), and a tsunami warning which was totally cool and not concerning at all. We dive into discussions about AI models playing Diplomacy and their different styles of conflict resolution, air bikes, onewheels, and explore cool new tech like soul reader glasses, and a visionary urban development project in London. Plus, we touch on innovative wine clubs, a web-based tarot card experience (built all in webflow), and AI-driven platforms.Check us out, drop a comment, let us know if you liked the hardware talk! 34: AI-hardware, Rivian vans, Amazon delivery robots, the PostHog DeskHog, and smart home automation
This episode was all about hardware (almost). From smart composting / recyclers like Mill and Lomi that turn kitchen scraps into usable dirt (they grind bones, too), to AI training platforms like Gentle Rain for enhancing workplace skills through role-playing. We also explore gadgets like the Post Hog Desk Hog analytics display, which we’ve already ordered parts for.The Post Hog wasn’t the only hardware that we dug into that needed to be printed — we also give you our thoughts on Terra, an AI-guided wayfinding tool? We have questions, too. We also take a bit of a side quest and talk about Amazons new fleet of Rivian vans, and their autonomous robot playground where they’re testing new delivery robots.Check us out, drop a comment, let us know if you liked the hardware talk! 33: Vancouver Web Summit review, Google's Stitch, Finch self care app and Builder Ai controversy
Hey, we're back from a little hiatus because we were at Vancouver Web Summit last week (wowz) and it was great. In this episode, we give you a little review of the conference, highlight out favourite parts, and talk about some of the cool talks we went to (here's looking at you, Metalab). We also check out new AI-driven tools like Google's Stitch (spoiler, it's actually really cool and useful), and question quirky brands like David Protein. Plus, we discuss the future of AI in education and its role in our daily lives, how we digest information these days, and Elysse's incorrect use of self care apps. Lastly, we riff on the Builder Ai controversy and chat robot vacuums with Lidar (it's $1000 USD, yikes). 00:00 Introduction and Banter03:39 Web Summit Highlights and Experiences05:07 AI and Startups at Web Summit07:37 Shred Claims and AI Tools23:01 AI in Education and Future of Learning30:16 Robot Vacuums and Smart Home Devices34:34 Astri Frontier38:23 Gamified Goal Setting Apps44:25 AI-Powered Design Tools53:10 David Protein: A Controversial Brand56:04 Exploring Fair.com01:04:38 Final Thoughts and bye bye Links this week:David protein: https://davidprotein.comGoogle Stitch: stitch.withgoogle.comFlashform: https://www.flshfrm.com/Deta: https://deta.surf/Builder AI: https://www.builder.ai/moti App: https://motiapp.io/Matic robots: https://maticrobots.com/Faire: https://www.faire.com/Finch App: https://finchcare.com/Find us elsewhere:Shawn: x.com/nerdburnGavin: x.com/geekforbrainsInput: x.com/inputlogicStilo: stilo.aiWanna build an app together? 32: Cyber scooters, bio computing, futuristic toothbrushes, and Meta glasses live demo
In this episode, Shawn gives us an IRL demo of the Auto Brush, and Gavin reviews the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses (spoiler, they’re amazing). We chat about the Cyber Scooter, or, ahem, the Infinite Machine P1, a digital storytelling project on Chinese Canadian restaurants, a customized bike workshop from Belgium, and a health platform aiming to extend human health. We also click around a tool called Shadow Map which helps you visualize sunlight and shadows on Earth to better plan solar projects (pretty cool stuff). We intentionally veered away from our usual AI-heavy content, just since it felt pretty rinse and repeat as of late. Oh and stick around till the end and you’ll get a live demo of Shawn brushing his teeth. 00:00 Introduction and Casual Banter00:46 Podcast Production Insights01:35 Discussion on Narrative Podcasts03:45 Children's Stories and Podcasts04:47 Tom Hardy's Children's Book Readings05:28 Non-AI Links and Scooter Talk06:49 Infinite Machine: The Cyber Truck Scooter16:04 Cortical Labs: Biological Computing25:21 Sublime App: Personal Knowledge Management35:08 Color Monkey: Custom Bike Workshop35:33 Custom Bike Paint and Wraps38:25 Website Design and AI39:39 Chinese Canadian Restaurants42:14 Shadow Map and Sunlight Analysis45:18 Health Platform: Superpower.com50:36 Italian Plumbing and Heating Website58:25 Smart Glasses and Wearables01:05:00 Concluding Remarks and Future ReviewsLinks this week: Infinite Machine: https://www.infinitemachine.com/Superpower: https://superpower.com/Colour Monkey: https://www.color-monkey.com/Sublime App: https://sublime.app/Cortical Labs: https://corticallabs.com/cl1.htmlShadowMap: https://app.shadowmap.org/Find us elsewhere:Shawn: x.com/nerdburnGavin: x.com/geekforbrainsInput: x.com/inputlogicStilo: stilo.aiWanna build an app together? 31: Tesla vs Slate auto, AI dev tools, Sidekick CLI, and AI and bioweapons
In this episode, we chat so much about new AI and AI tools, that next week we decided it’s a no AI week (we’re tired, and there are so many new AI tools that basically do the same thing). We also dig into the pros and cons of Tesla versus new EV trucks like Slate and Tello, and chat into a few new dev tools we’re trying — like Phase and Vapid.ai. Gavin also tells us a bit more about Sidekick CLI, basically an open source Claude code that he built (a pet project that grew legs), so tune in for that and try Sidekick! 00:00 Breakfast Banter 00:14 Nostalgic Music Trivia04:20 Birthday Celebrations and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles14:52 Electric Trucks and Customization25:28 AI Learning Human Behaviour26:37 Bio Weapons and AI Endings27:13 Nanobots and Sci-Fi Concepts28:23 3D Printing and Microscopic Models30:14 Environmental Products and Expensive Gear35:52 AI-Powered Personal Finance42:39 Sidekick: The Open Source AI Tool48:41 Concerns About AI and Future Predictions54:29 Conclusion and Next Week's ChallengeLink this week: Phase: https://www.phase.com/comparison/figmaVapi.ai: https://vapi.ai/Slate Auto: https://www.slate.auto/enAI 2027: https://ai-2027.com/Era.app: https://era.app/Labo Mono: https://labomono.com/Micro: https://www.micro.so/Find us elsewhere:Shawn: x.com/nerdburnGavin: x.com/geekforbrainsInput: x.com/inputlogicStilo: stilo.aiWanna build an app together? In this episode, we explore a variety of new tech products and services that we’ve found on the internet, which includes an AI-driven productivity tool (yep, another one), Native.inc , a global broker dedicated to digital assets & crypto transactions, innovative music collaboration software with 24/7 artist, and intriguing design platforms that basically look like FigJam. We also tried to order some artisanal chocolate (shipping was $100 so that never happened), and we debate the impact of AI on the music industry while sharing insights into our favourite Disney Princesses. In this weeks episode, we take a good chunk of the episode to chat Apple's 'Glowtime' event, and we give you our honest thoughts. We dig into most of their announcements, delving into the new iPhone features, AirPod 4s, and general expectations from Apple products moving into the next few years. All in all, we're quite honest with our review. Hey, hi, hello! We're back with another week of riveting, educational and borderline controversial links. We were also fortunate to be joined by Robin Newman this week, the founder of Likely Story, a digital game about how to deal with awkward romantic relationship scenarios, all while educating women and young girls on how traffickers use romantic relationships to coerce girls into sex trafficking. In this episode, we also chat Vercel NYC conference, animation CSS, mechanical keyboards and if they're worth it, plus an array of other side quest topics that lead us to ask questions about iPhone sizes, and if phone cases are actually worth it.
