Jancast.com - Podcasting to Cleaner & Healthier World

Jancast was started in 2004, and we won the ISSA Innovation Award! Jancast is the first and longest-running podcast dedicated to the Jan/San industry. We have had thousands and thousands of downloads over all of those years. We started as an audio podcast and moved to video about ten years ago. You can see our video podcast online at jancast.com

  1. 39

Price Spikes, Shortages, and Force Majeure

So the trend with supply chain issues is starting to look like back in the days of the pandemic, but that was a slow process over the years, versus what we are moving into. In this episode, we cover the recent price jump with key raw materials. On our last Jancast, we discussed how freight was going to be impacted, and we've now received the first substantial increase in chemical products, mainly raw materials, with a significant increase in ingredients like propylene glycol. What else could we see increasing on cost and a lower level of supply in the market place.

  2. 38

Jancast # 211 - Freight First, Shortages Next

As we did during the pandemic, we think it is important to be transparent about what we are seeing as a result of the war or the excursion in the Middle East. Scott gives his commentary and then the AI co-host digs deeper into what is coming.

  3. 37

Jancast # 210 - 6 Years Later: How COVID Rewrote the Cleaning Industry

Six years ago this month, the World Health Organization made a declaration that changed everything—COVID-19 was officially a global pandemic. Almost overnight, the world shut down, supply chains were turned upside down, and the cleaning industry was thrust into the spotlight like never before. What was once behind-the-scenes work suddenly became front-line essential. Disinfectants, wipes, and PPE became some of the most sought-after products on the planet, and the expectations placed on cleaning professionals changed—permanently.Today on Jancast, we’re taking a look back—and a look forward—at how the pandemic transformed the world of cleaning.

  4. 36

Jancast # 209 -Disruption Topologies: Pandemic vs. Geopolitical Supply Shocks

We thought it would be interesting to compare the supply chain issues that occurred during the pandemic with the current situation as the Gulf War expands its impact on everything coming out of that region. The discussion highlights the distinctions between supply chain interruptions caused by military conflict versus those triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

  5. 35

Jancast # 208 - The Big 4 Trends Reshaping Commercial Cleaning in 2026

In this episode we cover the Big 4 Trends Reshaping Commercial Cleaning in 2026s.  We start with a human discussing the trends, then an AI, then another AI covers what the first AI did.1) Technology & Data-Driven Cleaning Is Reshaping Service Delivery2) Sustainability & Green Cleaning Standards Are Moving from “Trend” to Baseline3) Workforce Challenges & Changing Labor Dynamics 4) Health-Driven Hygiene & Infection Prevention

  6. 34

Jancast # 207 - The Hidden Cost of "Cheap" Cleaning

The Hidden Cost of "Cheap" Cleaning and the illusion of savings. Why, in an industry where labor makes up 50 to 70 percent of total cleaning cost, do we still make decisions based primarily on the lowest line-item price of a chemical?

  7. 33

Jancast # 206 - What to do about Measles?

The single most important message for our Jancast audience, measles spreads through aerosolized respiratory droplets that can remain suspended for up to 2 hours after an infected person leaves a space. Learn what you need to do if there is an outbreak.

  10. 30

Jancast # 203 - Who is going to fix the robots?

This is the uncomfortable question under all the hype. Everyone—from equipment manufacturers to building service contractors—is talking about autonomous scrubbers, AI-enabled vacuums, and robotic floor machines. But as you point out, car dealerships can’t find enough mechanics, so how exactly is the cleaning industry going to support a growing fleet of robots that break, need updates, and require routine service?

After my six-minute intro, for Jancast number one we got down to business with Mark and I actually talking about the ISSA trade show. From a technical standpoint, I apparently erased the real number two show, so we're calling this number two even though it's actually number three. Back then we recorded the shows on a digital recoding deck with microphones, no video, we got that around 2011. Even if you could do video there was no Youtube.
