9 Grouped Anomalies Appeared then Disappeared on a Star Survey in 1950 with Dr. Beatriz Villarroel

Satellites before Sputnik?9 grouped bright anomalies appeared then disappeared on photographic plate taken in April 1950 as part of the historic Palomar Sky Survey. This was well before the first satellites, and given that they disappeared within 30 minutes, if they weren't false positives, this makes them most likely to be within the solar system.Dr. Beatriz Villaroel joins John Michael Godier to discuss her work in determining just what these anomalies are. Why the Future Will Be Weird with Isaac Arthur

Science and Futurism with Isaac Arthur is a YouTube channel which focuses on exploring the depths of concepts in science and futurism. Since its first episode in 2014, SFIA has considered topics ranging from the seemingly mundane, to the extremely exotic, featuring episodes on megastructure engineering, interstellar travel, the future of earth, and the Fermi paradox, among others. Yet regardless of how strange a subject may seem, Isaac always tries to ensure that the discussion is grounded in the known science of today.Isaac Arthur joins John Michael Godlier on today’s Event Horizon to discuss these subjects, the future past 2020. Why Planet 9 May Not Exist with Kevin Napier

Mike Brown and Konstantin Batygin wrote the Planet Nine hypothesis paper in 2019. Since then, there has been a concerted effort to find the mysterious planet 9. Last month, Kevin Napier, a PHd candidate from the University of Michigan lead a team to study the apparent clustering of Extreme trans-Neptunian objects, and found that there was No Evidence for Orbital Clustering in the Extreme Trans-Neptunian Objects. Is this correct? Do we need more data? or is Planet 9 real? Why Are We Alone? Fermi Paradox Solutions With Author Trevor Williams

Fermi Paradox solutions. Could we be surrounded by intelligent life and not know it? The Zoo Hypothesis is one possible solution to the fermi paradox where we are kept from knowing that aliens exist by alien civilizations that keep us from knowing the truth. Could intelligent life in the universe end up choosing to become machine civilizations? And if so, would they even care to communicate with us, or rather live a blissful life, largely protected from the dangers of space and the universe that we live in.Why Are We Alone? Life on Venus? Phosphine found in the Clouds Featuring R.J. Graham

A team of Astronomers from Cardiff University and MIT announced today the discovery of finding a rare molecule, phosphine, in the clouds of Venus. Here on Earth, Phosphine is usually only found to be made by microbes that live in oxygen-free environments or made industrially. There have been past hints of life in the clouds of Venus, where the temperature is much more hospitable for life than the surface. This finding of Phosphine on Venus could be a hint that alien life exists there.R.J. Graham is a Department of Physics student in Atmospheric PhysicsClarendon Laboratory working in Ray Pierrehumbert's group at Oxford. Magneto-Inductive Communications for Ocean Worlds, is a new concept from Dr. Robert Romanofsky of NASA. A mission to the under-ice ocean of Europa is one of the highest priority missions for NASA. The challenge of communicating back to the surface of Europa is also directly addressed. Fusion and Magnetic Reconnection Propulsion with Dr. Fatima Ebrahimi

To get your free 30 day trial visit https://www.audible.com/eventhorizon or text EventHorizon to 500-500.A new type of rocket thruster that could take humankind to Mars and beyond has been proposed by Fatima Ebrahimi a physicist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL).The Plasma thruster would apply magnetic fields to cause particles of plasma, electrically charged gas also known as the fourth state of matter, to shoot out the back of a rocket and, because of the conservation of momentum, propel the craft forward. Current space-proven plasma thrusters use electric fields to propel the particles. The new concept would accelerate the particles using magnetic reconnection, a process found throughout the universe, including the surface of the sun, in which magnetic field lines converge, suddenly separate, and then join together again, producing lots of energy. Reconnection also occurs inside doughnut-shaped fusion devices known as tokamaks. The above text is from: New concept for rocket thruster exploits the mechanism behind solar flareshttps://www.pppl.gov/news/2021/01/new-concept-rocket-thruster-exploits-mechanism-behind-solar-flaresFatima Ebrahimi is a Principal Research Physicist at the PPPL Theory Department and an Affiliated Research Scholar at the Department of Astrophysical Sciences, Princeton University. Dr. Ebrahimi received her Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003.Her research interests span from magnetically confined fusion plasmas to flow-driven plasmas, such as accretion disks. Her primary research experience has been in the field of theoretical and global-computational extended magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), with wide applications to astrophysical, laboratory and fusion plasmas. Also discussed is the ITER project, the international nuclear fusion research project to build a Tokamak reactor. Building the Giant Magellan Telescope with Dr. Rebecca Bernstein and Dr. Jim Fanson

The Giant Magellan Telescope will be a member of the next generation of extremely large ground-based telescopes that promises to revolutionize our view and understanding of the universe. It will be constructed in the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. Commissioning of the telescope is scheduled to begin in 2029.The GMT has a unique design that offers several advantages. It is a segmented mirror telescope that employs seven of today’s largest stiff monolith mirrors as segments. Six off-axis 8.4 meter or 27-foot segments surround a central on-axis segment, forming a single optical surface 24.5 meters, or 80 feet, in diameter with a total collecting area of 368 square meters. The GMT will have a resolving power 10 times greater than the Hubble Space Telescope. Why the Solar System May Be Full of Life with NASA Chief Scientist Dr. James Green

Is life on Europa?Did Mars have life? Does Mars currently have life on it?NASA Chief Scientist Dr. Jim Green joins John Michael Godier to discuss NASA's plans for Mars 2020, the possibility of past and current life on Mars. As well as the fact that the solar system may be full of life as much of the moon's and Kuiper belt objects have large amounts of water on them. Does Europa have complex life? It has an ocean of water underneath it's surface more than the combined amount of water on Earth. The Europa Clipper mission will do its best to answer that. Mathematical SETI with Dr. Claudio Maccone

How does SETI search for intelligent life? What is radio SETI?SETI is becoming a complicated business as our capabilities to search increase, but the payoff increases. Dr. Claudio Maccone has worked on a mathematical way to look at those signals, perhaps far more efficiently than anything used before.
