All About Narcism and Narcistic Parents with Psychologist Melissa Lehto | Journey With Jess

This week I'm super excited to bring you a long-awaited discussion all about narcism and narcissistic parents with psychologist and mental health coach, Melissa Lehto. A little bit about Melissa: Melissa Lehto was born in El Paso, Texas. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, later obtaining her Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso. She has worked in the mental health field since 2018. Her adult career started in the banking industry and, thanks to a lot of work, support, and dedication I was able to move up fairly quickly. In the end, she wanted a job that was fulfilling and that could align with her personal values and beliefs. So, she took a big leap of faith and decided to restart her career by enrolling in college and exploring different jobs and volunteer opportunities that she wanted to participate in.  Even at times when she felt like she was stepping back "financially, or with stability”, she knew that the rewards would outweigh the challenges and difficulties. She found her specialty which is helping adult clients with processing and healing from trauma, toxic relationships, and dysfunctional family systems. She works with clients who have been involved in narcissistic relationships either with their families, parents, or significant others. She values the strength that it takes for them to ask for help. With that same sentiment, there is not a day when she takes for granted the ability to provide the best quality of care to her clients. Even on the most difficult days, her heart is full and she has an immense sense of gratitude for her profession and the connection she develops with my clients.  Connect With Melissa: @mentalhealthincolor (IG, FB, Youtube, Tiktok, Threads, Clapper, and LinkedIn)  website: mentalhealth-incolor.com phone: 813-508-8826 email: [email protected] Podcasts Dr.  Ramani  Mental Healness (Instagram or YouTube)   Unscrew You Guided mediation for detachment from over-thinking   Beyond Bitchy: Mastering the art of boundaries  Recovery road  UnF*ck your brain   Understanding Today's Narcissist  Books  Here are the Tears I You we didn't cry by Vianney Harelly  Self-compassion: The proven power of being kind to yourself by Kristin Neff The art of living: peace and freedom in the here and now by Thich Nhat Hanh Healing the adult children of narcissists: Essays on the invisible war zone and exercises for recovery by Shahida Arabi.  Welcome home: A guide to building a home for your soul by Najwa Zebian Will I ever be good enough? Hi 👋🏽 ! My name is Jess. I'm a Mental Health Coach and Therapist Matchmaker. In this week's episode of ✨ Journey With Jess ✨ I'm chatting with my cousin, Yeimy.  In this episode we discuss Yeimy’s journey from El Salvador to the United States (she was only 6 when she came!), how she adjusted to reuniting with her father after not seeing him for a few years, and their relationship struggles and eventual wins.  Want to know what culture differences Yeimy experienced and how she handled them and why her mom was shocked by American fast food? Tune in because this is one of the most vulnerable episodes I’ve done to date.  My goal is to educate, uplift, share inspiring stories, and show people who want to build and live their best, most fulfilling life that with a bit of support, accountability, and positivity, anything is possible! Some episodes will have heavy topics such as mentions of s*xual ass*ult, su*cidal ideations, and more. Please listen at your own discretion, take breaks as needed, or listen with a friend.
