    The need to double the number of CCTV cameras in Kilkenny City was among several issues highlighted during the August meeting of Kilkenny's Community Local Safety Partnership (KCLSP). Speaking at the Partnership's August meeting, KCLSP Chair, Councillor Pat Fitzpatrick (FF) said the case for increasing the number of CCTV cameras from 22 to 44 had been well made. Councillor Fitzpatrick said it was high time to get the additional cameras installed. He also spoke to KCLR News about how the new policing model was settling in, the need to curb dangerous driving and why he felt it was important for the KCLSP to meet throughout the summer.

    Representatives of Net Zero Energy, the company seeking to develop a 2 billion Euro long duration energy storage facility near Rathoe, held a seven-hour community information session in the Carlow village yesterday (Wednesday, 12th August) Gillian Dee, who is a member of the Rathoe Community Group, said the community was not opposed to renewable energy but was fearful of the unproven technology they claim is at the heart of the plan. Meanwhile, Net Zero Energy Chief Executive Peter Harte said the company was pleased with yesterday's session and was committed to providing further, detailed information to the local community in the coming weeks and months. On this morning's KCLR Daily, Brian Redmond spoke to Dermot Keyes from KCLR's Newsroom, who attended yesterday's Information Day in Rathoe.

    KCLR News: Cllr Michael McCarthy's tribute to Freshford's Gordon Ryan (August 8th, 2026)

    Tributes have been paid to Freshford native, All-Ireland winning Kilkenny hurler and retired Garda Superintendent Gordon Ryan, who died on Thursday last, July 30th. Mr Ryan, who was a resident of Ballinakill Downs in Waterford City, was a hugely respected figure within Gaelic Games and was a member of the All-Ireland winning Kilkenny senior panels in 1982 and 1983. A year later, Gordon enjoyed further success when landing a County Intermediate title with Saint Lachtain's. In the early 1990s, Gordon joined Ballygunner Hurling Club and later wore the red and black of the Gunners, winning Waterford Senior Championship medals in 1996 and 1997. Having managed Ballygunner to its first Munster Senior Club title in 2001 (his first year in charge), Gordon returned to Saint Lachtain's where he managed the club to the County, Leinster and All-Ireland treble in the 2009/2010 season. Freshford-based County Councillor Michael McCarthy described Gordon Ryan as a talented hurler, a great clubman and a loyal friend.
