KCLR News: Pride of Place judging at Graiguenamanagh (3rd July 2026)
The sun shone brightly in Graiguenamanagh yesterday (Thursday, July 2nd) for the IPB Pride of Place judging during a visit which began at the town's GAA and Soccer clubs before concluding at the packed Quayside. Over three event-filled hours, the judges, who had visited Muckalee earlier that morning, were shown what Graigue has to offer from a sporting, civic, spiritual, cultural and tourism perspective. KCLR's Dermot Keyes was in Graiguenamanagh for the judging, where a man leading the group in monastic robes immediately caught his eye - and you'll hear from him at the opening and conclusion of this package!

The KCLR Daily: anti-social behaviour on St Kieran's Street (2nd July 2026)
Kilkenny City Gardaí must crack down on ongoing anti-social behaviour on St Kieran's Street according to City Councillor Eugene McGuinness. He was reacting to his own dealings with business owners in the area along with reporting by KCLR in which we've heard from traders who are witnessing increasing levels of theft, intimidation and what's been described as professional begging. While Cllr McGuinness is looking forward to the completion of the refurbishment works on Kieran's Street, he is calling for action against those upsetting traders and shoppers alike in the city centre. Meanwhile, Anne Ryan, who trades on High Street, told KCLR that anti-social behaviour has been a problem in the city centre for several years. Following our interview with Kieran’s Street newsagent with Paula Grant: Kilkenny retailer urges Garda presence to tackle Kieran Street issues, KCLR News spoke to Abbas Ghadimi of the Food for Life store and Catherine O'Dwyer of Lux Boutique, who is based at the junction with the Butter Slip.

The KCLR Daily: Wexford TD George Lawlor on "grossly unfair" fines on the N25 (29th June 2026)
The static speed camera installed alongside the N25 at Glenmore has been a source of controversy since its installation in May 2025, with Wexford TD George Lawlor (Lab) among its most outspoken critics. Having secured data from the Department of Justice, Deputy Lawlor has spoken of the discrepancy between fines issued at Glenmore in comparison to other speed cameras around the country. Deputy Lawlor spoke to Brian Redmond about the figures and repeated his hopes that fines and penalty points issued there will be rescinded due to "appalling signage" that was initially in place on the N25.

KCLR News iterviews Kilkenny County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Joe Malone (26th June 2026)
Fianna Fail's Joe Malone has succeeded Fine Gael's Mary Hilda Cavanagh as Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council. The Kilkenny City-based member was nominated and seconded for the role by party colleagues, Councillors Andrew McGuinness and Joe Sheridan at County Hall this afternoon, where the new Cathaoirleach was joined by family and friends, along with colleagues from his career in the Defence Forces. Cllr Malone has previously served as Mayor of Kilkenny City on two occasions but this election marks his first time to hold the Cathaoirleach's seat. He told KCLR's Martin Quilty that a big year lies ahead.

On Thursday's KCLR Daily, we heard about the new Grá Carlow initiative from Carlow Chamber's perspective and how the Chamber hopes it will promote and support the retail and hospitality sectors across the county both this summer and on a year-round basis. It also aims to empower shoppers, strengthen local enterprise and showcase the best of what Carlow Town and County has to offer. Carlow Tourism is another partner in this new project and it's aiming to showcase what local residents and those living in neighbouring counties can discover and enjoy in Carlow - something that we in KCLR are also playing an active role in. Love Carlow, Love Everything about Carlow and support businesses in Carlow: that's the aim of the new 'Grá Carlow' retail and tourism initiative which was launched in blazing sunshine at Carlow's Enterprise House yesterday (June 24th) This new branding, which will operate on a year-round basis throughout the county, was developed by Carlow's Local Enterprise Office, Carlow County Council, Carlow Chamber of Commerce and Carlow Tourism. KCLR's 'Between Towns And Villages' (Carlow Municipal District, 24th June 2026, Part 2)
KCLR was live at The Irishmans Bar in the heart of Carlow Town last night (Wednesday, June 24th) for the second programme in our 'Between Towns And Villages' series, presented by Brian Redmond, which focused on the Carlow Municipal District. In the second hour of the programme, Brian spoke to host Ivor O'Loughlin about the challenges and satisfaction in running a 40-year-old family business, members of Carlow Youth Services (CYS) about their vital work with teenagers and young persons in the town, as well as the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Carlow College under the SETU banner. We also heard from Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O'Connor, local political representatives, how St Laurence O'Toole AC is going from strength to strength and members of Carlow Choral Society, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last year. 'Between Towns And Villages' is funded by Coimisiún na Meán with the television licence fee.
