Is The Zero-Torque Putter Trend Dying, Or Just Getting Started? Plus, How Many Fairway Woods Are Too Many Fairway Woods For The Average Golfer?
Massive thanks to Under Armour for sponsoring this week's episode. The new Drive Pro Clone and Drive Pro Clone SL golf shoes are on sale now.Joe's away this week, so what better time than to welcome back Sam De'Ath (a.k.a Sweaty Sam) to chew the fat on all the equipment he's been busy testing over the last six months. Sam looks after the putter, golf ball and fairway wood categories for Golf Monthly, and it is the putter where we spend most of our time this week.To assess whether the zero-torque putter trend is just getting going or starting to fade away, Sam has brought in some of the finest examples of this subcategory into the studio with him. From the new, more affordable options from Wilson to the new Asner-style option from L.A.B. Golf, can the zero torque putter be a catch-all putter for the average golfer? If zero torque isn't your thing, don't worry, Sam has his analysis on the latest Sausage putter, something new (and confusing) from TaylorMade, as well as Odyssey's latest lineup. We also have some of your excellent Ask The Pod questions surrounding Sam's other area of expertise, fairway woods. With so many lofts now available, how many fairway woods is too many fairway woods for the average golfer?Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: [email protected] up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint Hosted on Acast. Are Direct To Consumer Blades The Best Value For Money Golf Clubs? Plus, Graphite vs Steel Wedge Shafts & Which Tour Pros Buy Second Hand Clubs
Big thanks to our friends at GolfClubs4Cash for sponsoring this week's episode. You can visit them in store now at its locations in Edinburgh, Warrington, Milton Keynes and Southampton or head to www.golfclubs4cash.co.uk to browse the more than 50,000 items in stock.Welcome back to regularly scheduled programming! We hope you enjoyed the Masters and our Tour Issue specials, but we're back onto our bread and butter topic this week: equipment. For the bulk of this week's episode, we wanted to answer one simple questions, are direct to conusmer blades the best value golf clubs on the market? Often priced at less than 50% of the bigger brands' rival blades, do they offer the same performance? To see whether the blade irons offered by direct-to-consumer brands really are the best value to performance golf clubs on the market, we put the best three head-to-head. Which of the Vice, Ben Hogan Ft Worth MB and Takomo 301MB is the best of the best in the DTC space? Also, this week, we debate whether blending a mix of graphite and steel shafts through irons and wedges is a good idea, and get a sneak peek behind some of the Tour pros who love shopping in the second-hand market. Masters Sunday Recap: Rory McIlroy Makes History By Defending His Green Jacket At Augusta National
I want to once again thank our sponsors for this week, Callaway. We’ve just watched four days of world-class golf and the big takeaway is consistency. The players who perform under pressure are the ones who can rely on their equipment, shot after shot. That’s exactly what the Quantum family is built for - drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, iron - the whole lineup - designed to give you more speed, more control and more repeatable performance. Because, while we might not be teeing it up at Augusta anytime soon, we all want to play our own courses a little bit better. So if this week has got you thinking about your game, it’s a great time to explore the Quantum range. To find out more, go and visit your local retailer or take a look online at eu.callawaygolf.com.Well, there you have it. Rory McIlroy has successfully defended the Green Jacket, becoming only the fourth person in history to do so. After losing a six-shot lead in round three, McIlroy bravely batted to a one-shot victory over World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and once again wrote his name into the history books. In this episode, Joe and I discuss Rory's ability to win without his best game, Scottie Scheffler's incredible weekend, Cam Young's Major chances and Justin Rose's latest attempt to finally get over the line at Augusta National.Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: [email protected] up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletterGet three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpointHosted on Acast. Masters Day Three Recap: Rory McIlroy Loses Historic Six Shot Lead As Cameron Young Goes Low
I want to once again thank our sponsors for this week and give a quick shoutout to Callaway’s Chrome Tour golf balls. This is where everything matters - feel, control, spin, and performance under pressure. The Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X are designed for exactly that. You’ve got exceptional distance off the tee, but also that control and consistency into the greens, especially on those delicate shots around Augusta. And that balance is what we’re seeing from the players in contention, total trust in every part of their game. So whether you’re chasing a personal best or just trying to sharpen up your short game, the Chrome Tour range delivers tour-level performance. To find out more, visit eu.callawaygolf.com.One way or another, Rory McIlroy is going to make history at the 2026 Masters Tournament. He will either defend his Green Jacket, becoming only the fourth person to do so, or he will have blown the largest 36-hole lead in Masters history. With plenty of big names in hot pursuit, the final round at Augusta National is promising to be incredibly exciting. In this special daily episode, Joe and I discuss Cameron Young's impressive charge after starting the tournament four-over-par through seven holes, the chances of other Major winners like Justin Rose or Shane Lowry, the professionalism and consistency of Sam Burns and, of course, the lurking presence of the World No.1 Scottie Scheffler on the leaderboard. This is a Masters Tournament that continues to deliver and one you will not want to miss down the stretch on Sunday.Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: [email protected] up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletterGet three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpointHosted on Acast. Masters Day Two Recap: Rory McIlroy Leads The Way With A Strong Leaderboard In Hot Pursuit
Big thanks to this week's sponsor, Callaway. Seeing Augusta this week, it’s obvious how important approach play is to success. Distance control, consistency and giving yourself chances is so important. Now, while the guys out there aren’t gaming these, Callaway’s new Quantum Irons are built for exactly that kind of challenge… for everyday golfers. They’re designed as game improvement irons, which means more forgiveness, more consistency, and helping you hit more greens, especially on those slight misses we all have. So while the pros are dialling it in with precision this week, Quantum Irons are all about helping you bring a bit more of that consistency into your own game. If you’re looking to improve your iron play, they’re definitely worth a look. To find out more, visit eu.callawaygolf.com.Well, If you thought the opening day at The Masters was good... day two was truly something else. Rory McIlroy continued to dazzle at Augusta National, with a majestic second round performance stretching his lead, but there is an incredibly strong leaderboard that are going to do their best not to make it easy for him over the weekend. In the second of our Masters daily specials, Joe and I discuss Tyrrell Hatton's impressive 66 powered by a 100% green in regulation success rate, Patrick Reed's sublime short game, Justin Rose's popularity and prowess around Augusta National, Brooks Koepka's chances and plenty more. As we look ahead to the weekend, this Masters Tournament has all the makings of a classic.Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: [email protected] up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletterGet three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpointHosted on Acast. Big thanks to this week's sponsor, Callaway. After round one, you can already see how important it is to get the ball in play off the tee. Augusta National doesn’t let you get away with much. And that’s where the new Quantum Driver is making a serious impact. It’s already picked up five global wins in 2026, including Jon Rahm - the 2023 Masters Champion - who won at LIV Hong Kong using the Quantum Triple Diamond. This driver is built for elite-level performance; speed, control, and consistency when it matters. But it’s not just for the pros. You can visit them in store now at its locations in Edinburgh, Warrington, Milton Keynes and Southampton or head to www.golfclubs4cash.co.uk to browse the more than 50,000 items in stock. What's Joe's best-ever second-hand golf club purchase? How far back from the hole would you go to 'guarantee' it going in (for a cash prize)? Should I use blades for vibe nd vibes only? What's the meaning of life? All of this (and much more) is asked and subsequently answered on this week's episode. We also take two of the biggest (literally) and best (also literally) game improvement/high-handicap irons to have been released in 2026 and put them head-to-head. Can Ping's chunky 'super game improvement' G740 outclass the new kid on the block, the Cobra 3DP X? Min Woo Lee What's In The Bag (With His Club Fitter)! Plus, How To Get Grip Thickness Correct & Should We Ban Alignment On Golf Balls?
Thanks to this week's sponsor, PXG. PXG has fitting locations across the country, so if you’re ready to take a more serious approach to your game, head to PXG.com, check out their latest deals and book a fitting near you. Joe's on a crusade again this week, folks. He looks at the game of golf like no man on earth. Caddies? Why do we have them? Loft on drivers? Why is it always incorrect? Now, alignment aids on golf balls are in the firing line. Why do we allow golfers to mark precise lines on their golf balls to help them aim? Surely this is part of the skill? We debate this, and much, much more, this week. After that, we've got some of your recent comments and Ask The Pods and to round off this week, we've got another cracking interview, looking in depth at the equipment of Min Woo Lee. We welcome back now friend of the show, Kellen Watson, Callaway Tour Rep and fitter for Min Woo Lee. Much like the Jon Rahm interview two weeks ago, expect an in-depth analysis of the chef's love of the Callaway Apex UW and why he uses Kangaroo leather grips. Ping i540 vs TaylorMade P790! Which Players' Distance Irons Is The Best? Plus, Christina Kim On The Lessons We Can Learn From Women's Pro Equipment & Can You Raw Your Own Irons?
Another jam-packed episode this week, if a little shorter than last week's feature-length chow down. Firstly, we're putting the latest players' distance iron to hit the shelves up against the GOAT of the category. Can the Ping i540 come close to knocking the TaylorMade P790 off its perch? We've got some of your excellent questions to get through too, as one listener wants to know if he can raw his own irons by taking the protective coating off. Based on Joe's answer, let's hope he hasn't pulled the trigger on that process yet...After all of that, we're welcoming (for the second time) one of our favourite people in the industry, Christina Kim, onto the show. After she popped up for a quick Ask The Pod in an episode a few weeks ago, we thought it best to sit her down for a proper interview. It's a wide-ranging chat where we take a quick peek at her equipment, compare the equipment used by female professionals to that of male amateurs, analyse dropping the equipment ego, and dive into the reasons why she thinks both men's and women's European teams have created better atmospheres at Ryder and Solheim Cups in recent years. Rory McIlroy's 2026 What's In The Bag! Why Has He Switched Irons Twice This Year? Plus, Cashmere Keith's Final Boss Blade Putter & Joe's Driving Range Routine Advice
Massive thanks to Stromberg for supporting this week's episode. The new LaunchPad Pro and LaunchPad Pro SL golf shoes are available in the UK from American Golf from today, March 6th, at www.americangolf.co.uk. TGIF, amirite? Happy Friday, folks. For those listening in the UK, we sincerely hope you can take advantage of this small dry weather window to enjoy some golf this weekend! This week, we dive into the bag of Rory McIlroy for the 2026 season. Funnily enough, we recorded this before he switched back into his Rors Proto irons a few weeks ago, BUT, with Joe being The Oracle, he had already predicted on February 6th (when we filmed this) that he'd have switched out of the P7CB irons he was using on filming date. Make sense? No? Fine. Anyway, consider this WITB fully up to date as we ponder why Rory has been switching irons and what about the Qi4D family has allowed him to switch so seamlessly into the new woods. Your brilliant questions and comments take up the rest of this week's pod as we cover advice on the best use of driving range balls, investing in lessons or equipment (or both), and clarifying what amount of spin with the driver is the right amount. TOUR ISSUE: Why You Shouldn't Be Worried About Shane Lowry's Blow Up, Echavarria's Winning Clubs & How Casey Jarvis Won Back To Back Despite A Broken Driver
Shane, what have you done?! After looking like he was going to cruise to victory at the Cognizant Classic yesterday, two water balls on the 16th and 17th holes saw Shane Lowry throw away a four-shot lead in Florida and see a 4th PGA Tour win slip through his fingertips. Despite the mess he made, we're here to tell you it's not all bad for Shane and that sometimes, sh*t happens! We also dive into the very interesting equipment of the beneficiary of Lowry's catastrophe, Nico Echavarria, who has bagged another win for a TaylorMade classic and some of our favourite wedges in the game right now. Also, Joe has some insight into Casey Jarvis's back-to-back winning bag, who has now won the Kenyan and South African Opens in consecutive weeks. The Science (And £2000 Price Tag) Behind Joe's New Irons, The Secrets Behind Bryson's 2024 Avoda Irons & Our New Game 'Golf Club Name Or Not Golf Club Name'
Happy Friday, everyone. We've got a jam-packed show for you this week! Joe purchased a new 3-wood (with his own money), we play a new game called 'Golf Club Name Or Not Golf Club Name', and we've dug deeper into the science of Cobra's new 3D printed irons, why they cost so much and why Joe is immediately putting them in his bag. As well as loads of your excellent recent questions and comments, we also welcome the founder of Avoda Golf, Tom Bailey, onto the show. He dives into the tech behind the company's curved face irons, his relationship with Bryson DeChambeau that saw him put Avoda irons into play at the 2024 Masters, as well as his ongoing relationship with Jason Day. Behind The Scenes At Golf Pride's Pinehurst HQ! The Importance Your Grips Grips In The Present & A Peek Into The Future Of Golf Grips
This week, we're live from what Joe has dubbed 'heaven on earth', otherwise known as Golf Pride's Global Innovation Centre in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Filmed during our trip in December, consider this week's episode the grip special you've all been waiting for. We cover all of the behind-the-scenes goodness from Golf Pride's HQ, including its Performance Lab, Fitting Centre, and its retail fitting space. We've also got news on its latest model, the Zero Taper Putter grip, as well as some of your grip-specific Ask The Pods. Apologies that this week's episode is a little shorter than our normal Friday offering, but we had limited time in Golf Pride's Performance Lab. TOUR ISSUE: Is Anthony Kim's Comeback Win The Best Since Tiger's Masters? Plus, Morikawa Wins With A Borrowed Putter & Is LIV Golf A Better Product For TV Than The PGA Tour?
Well, who saw that coming? After what looked like a Bryson vs Rahm Sunday shootout was going to take place at LIV Golf Adelaide, Anthony Kim came from five shots back to win for the first time in 16 years and send the world of professional golf into something representing unified glee. We ask whether Kim's win is the biggest and best comeback story since Tiger's in 2019, and also ask whether LIV Golf's TV coverage has the edge over the PGA Tour's TV offering. Elsewhere, we dissect Collin Morikawa's win at Pebble Beach, Jacob Bridgeman's Best Bogey Ever on the final hole, and take a quick look at Charley Hull's win on the LPGA Tour. Baz also looks ahead to the second Signature Event in as many weeks as the PGA Tour returns to Riviera. Reviewing The Most Underrated Iron Family Of 2026! Plus, LA Golf's Surprise New Irons, Titleist Slash Driver Prices & Joe's Winter Mat Warning
Massive thanks to Under Armour for sponsoring this week's episode. The new Drive Pro Clone and Drive Pro Clone SL golf shoes are on sale now.Happy Friday, everyone! For those in the UK, we hope you're not buried under too much water and can get out and golf this weekend. Those listening from warmer climates...don't want to hear about it. This week, we've got two new iron families to talk about, Wilson's Staff Model MB, CB and XB, as well as some surprise new irons from the folks at LA Golf. Wilson's 2026 irons have been universally well-received, so can we call them (and a brand with the most Major wins) underrated anymore? And why won't anyone buy them, even when they're £300 cheaper than the competition?Elsewhere, Joe has a warning about strike location on winter mats (who said we're niche?), Titleist has slashed its GT driver prices by the best part of £200 (what does this mean for you?), and we dive into some of your excellent Ask The Pods regarding golf ball choice and clubs for teenagers - enjoy!Chapters: 0:00:00 Intro and catching up0:03:13 New sponsor - Under Armour Drive Pro Clone!0:07:16 Dan's indoor golf adventures in America0:09:52 Joe Winter mat warning on strike location0:15:05 Is this the worst worn grip you've ever seen?0:17:11 Titleist slash 2026 driver prices - what does this mean?0:19:29 LA Golf's surprise new irons, reviewed0:27:13 Wilson Staff Model MB, CB & XB reviews: the most underrated irons of 2026?0:37:09 Ask The Pod - Catching up with your comments0:43:46 Ask The Pod - Advice on sourcing driver heads from America0:49:42 Ask The Pod - What clubs should I get my 14-year-old?0:56:33 Ask The Pod - Should I use the same type of golf ball all year?Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: [email protected] up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint Hosted on Acast. TOUR ISSUE: What Went Wrong For Matsuyama? Plus, Hovland Finally Switches Drivers, Koepka Joins The Mallet Revolution (Unsuccessfully) & Will Chris Gotterup Carry His Form Through To Major Season?
Happy Monday, folks! We hope you enjoyed this weekend's golf more than Baz did. Having seen his two picks for the WM Phoenix Open head out in the final group on Sunday, both to come up empty-handed, he's a little disappointed. Add to that Daniel Hillier's slow weekend after a lightning-fast start, and it was a case of the nearlies for Baz's debut. We've got our reaction to Matsuyama's chaotic final round, Gotterup's stunning start to the season, and ask whether the in-form American (alongside Patrick Reed) can keep his form going into Major season. We've also got plenty of equipment news to get stuck into from the weekend ,as Hovland finally switched into a new driver, Koepka finally saw sense and switched into a mallet putter (then proceeded to putt even worse), and Morikawa swapped flat sticks for the 1056th time this year. Baz also has his key pick ahead of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am coming up this week. Enjoy! Ian Fraser On The Future Of Golf Club Fitting, His Favourite Golf Clubs Of All Time & Whether Technology Alone Can Fit Golfers
Folks, we got him! It's the interview you've been asking for, and the interview Joe has been itching to do ever since we started this podcast: Ian Fraser. Ian, who you'll likely know from his time on the TXG YouTube channel and more recently the Fraser Golf Institute. Quite simply, he's one of the best minds in the world of golf when it comes to equipment and golf club fitting. We met up with Ian at the PGA Show in Florida a few weeks ago for a wide-ranging chat about equipment and, most eye-openeingly, about the future of fitting for all of us. He also ponders what golf clubs he would play if we gave him one more round of golf, his favourite golf components of all time and whether humans could be taken out of golf club fitting for good. There's much, much more to dive into as he and Joe chew the fat on our favourite subject: equipment. Before all of that, though, we give you our highlights (and lowlights) from our time at the PGA Show. From the new Ping product, the 'hidden' tech in Autoflex shafts, a new prototype Yonex driver and a break dancing robot, we'll give you the insight into our time at golf's biggest circus. We've also got some of your stellar Ask The Pod questions to catch up with and a surprise visit from Solheim Cup star, LPGA winner and all-around good egg, Christina Kim, who helps us answer your latest questions. TOUR ISSUE: Justin Rose's Winning What's In The Bag! Can He Win Another Major This Year? Plus, Three Different TaylorMade Fairway Woods Win & Calum Hill's Bahrain Fever Dream
Happy Monday, hope you enjoyed the weekend's golf! Tour Issue is back after a winter break, and we'll be here every Monday for the foreseeable future with our look back on the weekend's golf from across the professional tours. We've welcome a new face to the show this week, as Barry Plummer joins the Kick Point team as our new Tour Issue correspondent. Having worked on betting content for the last five years and with a keen eye on all the major tours across the world, Baz will be bringing his best tips ahead of next week's action. Don't worry, Joe is going nowhere, though, and he'll be popping up on the occasional Tour Issue episodes as well as every Friday gear show episode as normal. This week, we get our teeth stuck into Justin Rose's wire-to-wire win in San Diego. With a few equipment changes since the Ryder Cup already paying dividends and one of the best ball striking displays we've seen in recent memory, can Justin cap off this run of form with a Major win this year? Elsewhere, Calum Hill suffered a golfer's worst nightmare in his playoff loss to Freddie Schott in Bahrain, and Nelly Korda starts 2026 with a win and a brand new driver in freezing Orlando conditions. All of that, plus Baz's picks for next week's events in Phoenix and Qatar. Enjoy! Which Brand Has Produced 'The Best Iron Of 2026'? Plus, Cobra's New Optm & Mini Driver Review, Putter Advice For Higher Handicappers & Why Won't Ludvig Aberg Switch Out Of His Blade?
Massive thanks to Titleist and the new Vokey Design SM11 wedge for sponsoring this week's episode!Happy Friday, folks! We're still in the thick of launch season, and this week our focus turns to Cobra. With its new Optm woods and Tec MD mini driver now out in the world, can the brand that had a less-than-sparkling 2025 find some life again with its 2026 range of clubs? Elsewhere, Joe's gone big early in his declarations this year with his iron testing, but which brand has created what he has dubbed 'the best iron of 2026'?It's not all about new launches, however, as we've also got a stack of your brilliant questions to get through. This week, we've got tips on picking a putter if you're a higher handicapper (spoiler: mallets), driver adapter tips and tricks and debate why and when Ludvig Aberg might finally switch out of his Anser-style putter. Has The Takomo Bubble Finally Burst? Plus, Our Verdict On The Ping G440 K Max Driver, The Real Difference Between Graphite And Steel Iron Shafts & We Bought The 3 Best Clubs Of The 21st Century!
It's been a busy week as KPHQ has been based out in Orlando at the PGA Show. To that effect, I'm writing this podcast description at 2:26 am in bed, so it's going to be a short one. This week, Joe reviews the new Takomo irons. With private equity now on board and the 'new kid on the block' bounce now over, is the second generation of Takomo irons a step forward or backwards? We also review the Ping G440 Max K driver, showcase the new retro clubs we've purchased online, and answer some of your always brilliant Ask The Pods questions, this week discussing the actual difference between graphite and steel irons' shafts. Can Callaway's New Quantum Driver Keep Up With Qi4D? Plus, Is Marco Penge's Switch To PXG A Risk, Why Does Rory Have New Irons & Has Golf Equipment Marketing Got Out Of Hand?
We're practising gratitude this week at KPHQ, so thank you for downloading this week's episode amidst the glut of golf content that exists in the world. With Tour golf back and equipment season in full swing, it feels like golf has woken up again after a quiet few weeks over Christmas and New Year. With that in mind (and the fact we only filmed this episode on Wednesday), we thought a mini Tour Issue would be in order. We've got our reactions to Marco Penge's switch from Mizuno to PXG, the news that Rory McIlroy is no longer a blade man, the Ping prototype mini driver and Erling Haaland's bizarre golf vlog he put on his YouTube channel. After that, it's the next big release of the year: Callaway Quantum. Joe has hit all four of the new models and is very impressed with what he's seen so far. We put his favourite model of the Quantum range up against his favourite driver of the year (so far), Qi4D core, to see how the data stacks up. We've also got some of your brilliant Ask The Pods this week, including one enraged listener who is fed up with golf equipment marketing and another listener seeking some mini driver advice. Enjoy! Is TaylorMade's Qi4D Driver The Model To Beat In 2026? Plus, High Handicapper Wedge Issues Solved & Why Are Older Drivers On Tour Not Pulled For Creeping?
It's all go here at KPHQ to start 2026, and our first big driver release of the season is upon us. While we feel like we've already given plenty of airtime to TaylorMade's Qi4D since we first saw it in November, we can now talk about it without the shackles of woke embargoes limiting Joe from going into full flow. And that's exactly what he does this week with his full verdict on the full family of drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, Qi Max irons and the new technologies that aim to make Qi35 a distant 12-month memory. But we're not just focusing on this major release this week. We've got a huge backlog of Ask The Pods to work through, and the three this week cover wedge issues for higher handicap golfers, the actual reason why Bryson DeChambeau uses such unique equipment and why old driver models on Tour (like Aaron Rai's M6) have yet to be caught out for creeping. Peter Finch Answers YOUR Equipment Questions! What Are The Best Irons For High Swing Speed, High Handicappers & How To Retrofit Irons?
Happy New Year! We hope you've all had a restful break and are as ready for 2026 as we are here at KPHQ (Kick Point Headquarters). Before we get into launch season proper, we've got one more special episode to bring you from our week in Pinehurst back in December. You've already seen his What's In The Bag, but we liked Peter Finch so much we asked him to come back on the pod for a 'normal' episode of Kick Point to answer some of your burning equipment queries. So, get the jingle ready, it's an Ask The Pod special! We've got questions about the best irons for high-speed, high-handicappers and a debate on the best way (if there is one) to retrofit second-hand clubs. Ranking The 25 Best Golf Clubs Of The 21st Century! Plus, How To Use Equipment To Drill Swing Basics This Winter
Well, we think the title pretty much explains this week's episode! After we saw Rolling Stone magazine's Top 250 Albums Of The 21st Century, we thought it was time Kick Point delivered its own version. Thankfully, despite the relative length of this week's episode, we trimmed our list down to 25 rather than 250. Think TaylorMade M2 (2016), TaylorMade P790, Ping G2, Nike VR Pro Blades, Odyssey 2-ball, Vokey SM6 wedge, you get the idea. We've exhaustively analysed every golf club release of this century to offer you this definitive list of the very best. Prepare to agree (and most likely disagree) over the next 90 minutes or so. We hope you enjoy this week's episode, and all it leaves us to do is wish you a Merry Christmas (yes, it is next week). We're going nowhere over the break, though, and will be back on Boxing Day for the 2nd Annual Pointy Awards and on January 2nd for a very special guest episode. Peter Finch What's In The Bag Special! Plus, Catching Up On Our Week In Pinehurst & What Are The Golf Clubs To Beat in 2026?
A very special episode for you this week, filmed outside The Cottage at Pinehurst No. 8! Yes, we're back from our very special week in golf heaven, and we've got loads to catch up on. From playing Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 10 to snooping around inside Golf Pride's new Performance Lab and Global Innovation Center, we've been busy boys. We'll update you on our time in North Carolina, including our time in the Golf Hall Of Fame and the USGA testing facilities, too. After the self-indulgence, there's plenty of equipment chat to get stuck into. With the 2026 releases just around the corner (most of which we've already seen), what clubs from 2025 and before and the ones to beat? We've also got some of your excellent correspondence, including one listener who has managed to caramalise his golf clubs...We then welcome Peter Finch onto the podcast for a What's In The Bag looking ahead to his 2026 season. Though now a Titleist staffer, Pete has a wealth of club knowledge, having been a club reviewer for much of his YouTube career and has had the privilege of a VIP fitting at TPI. Massive thanks to Golf Pride, the Pinehurst Resort and GMS for hosting us last week. We'll have a special pod coming from inside Golf Pride's Global Innovation Center in the New Year. Tour Issue: Matsuyama's Winning Clubs, The Tour Sauce Behind Scheffler's New Driver & Our First Look At Callaway's Quantum and Cobra's OPTM Drivers
What a weekend of golf that was! With high profile tournaments in Australia, South Africa and The Bahamas, we've got loads to talk about. While not a winner this week, Scottie Scheffler took his appearance at the Hero World Challenge to debut his new TaylorMade Qi4D driver. We've spotted some unqiue features already on what looks to be a model with plenty of Tour-only offerings built in. We also dive into tournament winner Hideki Matsuyama's winning bag as the Japanese star romped home to victory after a stunning final day display. Also this week, Callaway's Quantum and Cobra's OPTM drivers hit the conforming list - we've got our first impressions of the new offerings. Tour Issue: David Puig's Winning Bag, Penge Changes Putters (Again!) & Was The Skins Match Just A Worse Version Of YouTube Golf?
Happy Monday, thanks for downloading! Another busy weekend of golf to reflect on this week. Joe met up with David Puig in Singapore earlier this year and, for reasons we disclose in the podcast, we never used the interview in a show. Though we've never aired it, it does mean Joe has a good insight into the Spaniard's bag that features four different brands and some old equipment too. Elsewhere, Ping has teased some new putters (and Viktor Hovland is testing them), and Marco Penge has switched putters again. Can You Trust Online Club Fittings? Plus, How Reducing Shaft Length Can Help Your Driving & Peter Uihlein What's In The Bag Special?
Happy Friday, folks, and happy Thanksgiving weekend to our American friends. Another jam-packed episode this week, one that gets very techy in places, so strap in. Firstly, Joe has a Big Question. Why are club fittings all working in such small parameters? Lie angles never go more than two degrees upright or flat, swing weights are rarely altered outside of standard, grips are normally standard size - why don't we think bigger when it comes to fittings? Speaking of swing weight, Joe's got a new digital swing weight machine to show off, and we do a little live experiment showing how adding a taking away a little weight at either end of the club can drastically affect the swing weight reading. He's also got some tidbits on driver shaft testing, and how reducing the shaft length in your driver could be a solution that most amateur golfers aren't utilising to improve their game off the tee. Finally, we've sent our roving reporter, Sam De'Ath, back out to the Philippines for another What's In The Bag special, this time with Peter Uilhein. Valimaki's Free Agent, Multi-Brand Winning Clubs, Odyssey's New Zero Torque Putters Get A Win & Why Are Titleist So Dominant On Tour?
Happy Monday - hope you had a good weekend, thanks for downloading this week's Tour Issue! Plenty for us to cover as the 'Free Agent Finn' Sami Valimaki wins on Tour with a massively mixed bag of equipment featuring four brands and, our favourite, a mini driver. On the LPGA Tour, Jeeno Thitihul broke records with her full bag of Callaway equipment, including a first win for the brand's newest range of putters. Will this start a new trend in the zero-torque putter space? Also, Titleist's 24/25 DP World Tour report was released this week, revealing a truly dominant share of golf balls and wedges on Tour this year. With driver counts increasing year on year for the brand too, we ask: why are Titleist so dominant in the bags of Tour players?Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: [email protected] up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint Hosted on Acast. Bryan Bros What's In The Bag Special, Our 'Mount Rushmore' Of Equipment Components & Should All Golf Lessons Start With Equipment Checks?
Happy Friday, everyone! This week, we welcome our biggest guests to date: George and Wesley Bryan, also known as the Bryan Bros. Two of the biggest content creators on YouTube stopped to chat with our very own Sam De'Ath at the International Series in the Philippines last month. Expect insight on their experiences with Takomo irons, driver tinkering stories and why they've decided to switch to L.A.B. putters. But before you listen to any of that, we've got much more in this week's episode to get stuck into. Firstly, Joe runs us through his 'Mount Rushmore' of golf equipment components. Which grips, shafts, or other golf components are in Joe's top four? We've also got what we think is our best collection of Ask The Pods to date this week. One listener wants to know why the line between equipment fitter and golf coach isn't more blurred, and we've also for a great message from a fellow equipment junkie and club builder who wants to know if the Frankenstein's monster of a club he's concocted is too daft to play in reality. Tour Issue: Fitzpatrick Wins With 11-Year-Old Irons, Rory's Early Qi4D Love Affair & Why Was Adam Schenk's Putting One Handed (And Should You Try It)?
Happy Monday, everyone. The start of a new working week means a new episode of Tour Issue, and we're here to recap Fitzpatrick's win in Dubai, Rory's 7th Order of Merit win, Adam Schenk's one-handed putting chaos, and Nelly Korda's under-the-radar iron switch. Why can't Fitzpatrick quit his old Ping irons? Has Rory found a new best friend in Qi4D? And has Rory's 2025 been the best year of golf in the modern era since the Tiger Slam? All of that and more answered this week! Thanks for your positive feedback on our first episode of Tour Issue last week - we really appreciate it. We're still working on how to structure this show every Monday, so any feedback is most welcome. We want this show to reflect what you'd like to hear us discuss on Tour, so do get in touch if you have any burning requests (we do read everything!). The Secrets Of Scheffler's Grips With Adrian Retiveld, The Best Irons Of The 80s and 90s & We Call Out Wedge Manufacturers
Happy Friday, folks, thanks for downloading. This week, there's an update on Joe's vobesman set, we call out wedge manufacturers and plead with them to stop over-designing their wedges, Joe pines for Robert Rock (again), and we go through some of the best-looking irons of the '80s and '90s after a listener wanted to know what set he should be for his own vibesman set. We also welcome Adrian Retiveld back onto the show to chat all things equipment from one of the best fitters in the professional game. We unearthed this interview from our time in California at The Kingdom in the summer, and it's a wide-ranging interview about Adrian's life on the Tour van and some of the most interesting experiences he's had with players on the Tour. Thanks for your kind words on the first episode of Tour Issue, which dropped on Monday. We'll be back next Monday with much more of the same - enjoy! Welcome to the first episode of Kick Point: Tour Issue, your weekly roundup of the weekend's Tour golf and equipment breaking news stories. We couldn't have asked for a more exciting week to bring you our first episode, with new equipment from TaylorMade, Ping and Cobra being seeded on Tour far earlier than we expected. We have our first impressions of all these new clubs and react to Aaron Rai's stunning playoff win in Abu Dhabi. How fitting that, on a week with so much new equipment, a man with a six-year-old model goes and wins big - we love you, Aaron. Harry Hall What's In The Bag Special, The 'Useless' Launch Monitor Data To Be Wary Of & Are Driving Ranges Getting Too Crowded?
Happy Friday, and thanks for joining us this week! Another bumper episode for you this week, and we're starting with a rant about driving ranges. Since the introduction of Trackman ranges, it's safe to say the demographics and sheer volume of people going to driving ranges are changing. Is this newfound love for ranges making it tougher for the less casual golfers to get practice in? Or are we too busy looking down our noses at new people joining the game? On Tested This Week, Joe has a new toy - a Foresight GC3 launch monitor to be precise. Off the back of this, we wanted to chat about why the one metric in particular on this (and all) launch monitors should be totally ignored by all levels of golfer.. Ask The Pod this week wants to know why more manufacturers don't switch to two-year release cycles, and then we're excited to welcome Harry Hall onto the show for a What's In The Bag interview. Sam De'Ath met up with Harry at Wentworth to discuss some of the more unique equipment decisions he's made this year. Massive thanks to our sponsors, Golf Gear Giveaways. Robert Rock What's In The Bag Special, Odyssey's Zero Torque Breakthrough & Have We Been Getting Lie Angles All Wrong?
Happy Friday and happy Halloween! Nothing spooky for you in this episode, unless you find an hour of rambling about golf equipment scary. One thing some people do find scary is the shaft lean in zero torque putters. Odyssey's new line of Tri-Hot Square 2 Square putters has been designed to get rid of this nearly entirely, and we have our immediate reaction to the new launch and what it might mean for zero torque putters going forward. Also, this week, we chatted about how Jason Day added Avoda irons to his bag, and Joe gained insight from Avoda's Tom Bailey on how and why the switch took place. Ask The Pod wants to know about spin axis on golf balls, and, finally, we welcome Robert Rock onto the show for one of our most detailed ever What's In The Bags. While most know Robert for his beautiful, meticulous swing, he's also a meticulous equipment builder. Often building his own clubs, he takes us through his current bag of equipment that features four different brands and plenty of old equipment, too.Watch us in FULL on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolfGet in touch with Dan and Joe and 'Ask The Pod' via our email: [email protected] up for the weekly Kick Point newsletter, released every Friday: https://www.golfmonthly.com/newsletter Get three issues of the Golf Monthly magazine delivered to your door for just £5 at https://www.magazinesdirect.com/kickpoint Hosted on Acast. Matt Wallace What's In The Bag Special, Our Full Verdict On The Sausage Boudin Noir Putter & Why You Should Be Excited About The Kingdom Coming To The UK
Happy Friday, and thanks for downloading this week's episode! There's loads to cover in this jam-packed episode, including the breaking news that TaylorMade's Kingdom fitting centre is finally coming to the UK! But, what does this mean for the average golfer in the UK, and what are the pros and cons of being fitted in a 'single brand' fitting centre? We've also got the viral Sausage putter in the studio with us this week. We alluded to it a few weeks ago, and it's finally arrived. Joe's tested it, and Dan gets to see it in person for the first time - so what's the verdict? Ask The Pod follows before we welcome Matt Wallace onto the show! Takomo vs Titleist Irons: What's The True Difference? Plus, Callaway's New 'Perfect' Gap Filling Club & Niklas Norgaard What's In The Bag Special
Happy Friday, folks, thanks for joining us for another week of equipment deep dives. After our direct-to-consumer chat a few weeks ago, we've received some comments asking for more data comparing the drivers and irons of these brands versus the OEMs. So, Joe's brought some receipts from his testing. How close, from a data perspective, are the DTC brands getting to the big dogs? Also, this week, Joe's been out and purchased a golf club with his own money. As a man who gets every club he wants for free (for testing purposes, FYI), why has he gone and purchased an old Callaway Apex UW, and how does the 2025 version stack up against his favourite club? We've got more of your brilliant correspondence and Ask The Pods, and then we welcome 2024 British Masters champion Niklas Norgaard onto the show for a what's in the bag chat. Joe embarrassed himself in front of Niklas just as the cameras started rolling. Could he recover and get through the rest of the interview in one piece? Romain Langasque What's In The Bag Special, The Truth Behind Hitting A 4.5° Driver & Should We Do Away With Stated Driver Lofts?
Another jam-packed episode for you this week, thanks for joining us! Joe's been given a 4.5° long driv head from Callaway - and has decided to put it in the bag! He tells all about his time with the incredibly low lofted beast, and why it could work for more golfers than you think. Since his dalliance with the long driver head, Joe's been busy measuring driver heads in his garage (what a cool bloke), and he's uncovered some shocking results of the actual driver lofts versus what is stated on the loft sleeve. Should we just get rid of driver stated lofts if (spoiler alert) some of the actual lofts are so far off? After that, it's Ask The Pod (as well as all your other recent correspondence) and then we're excited to welcome Romain Langasque onto the show for an excellent What's In The Bag chat. Ewen Ferguson What's In The Bag Special, The Revolutionary Sausage Putter & What Is The Best Putter Of All Time?
Happy Friday, folks! Hope you enjoyed last week's Ryder Cup action. We're back this week with a jam-packed episode and something of a putter special. Firstly, Joe's been doing some more digging in the bags of Ryder Cup players, and has been wondering: is the blade (Anser-style) putter dying out completely? After that, we take a look at one of the hottest pieces of equipment doing the rounds on social media right now, the Sausage Golf Boudin Noir putter. Amusing though the name may be (perfect for our innuendo-laden podcast), this putter has rightly generated a lot of excitement online thanks to its modular construction. It's a perfect club for the tinkerers out there, and while we haven't had our hands on it yet, we've got all the details about this exciting release. With putters on the mind, Joe wants to know what you think is the best putter model of all time. He nominates what he thinks are the Big Three, but we'll leave it up to you to decide which is truly the GOAT. Some more Ask The Pods follow that, and then we're excited to welcome Ewen Ferguson onto the show. Filmed back in August at the British Masters, the Scot talks us through the brand new Titleist irons he put in play that very morning, as well as the reason why he carries two L.A.B. putters with him.
