Every day is a GROWTH experience!
Being invited to "do a pageant" can be a thrill and a half. Doing a pageant, with little to no experience is all the ingredients you need for a nightmare. I have reviewed photos, videos and head shots from several pageants. Here is my take (36 years of experience in pageantry). The Platinum DIVA - Rose McCall

"You don't come for me... and I won't come for you": When reality strikes
As a child I heard my mother utter those words... "You don't come for and I won't come for you", meaning don't pick a fight with me if I have done nothing to you. It may not turn out the way you've planned it. In this three-part podcast, I discuss the "Slap seen around the world"; Causes and Consequences of Stardom and its management or mismanagement; and finally the "War Putin Made"! Sorry this is so late but I have lost a friend since my last posting and taken time out to do some introspection. The Platinum DIVA - Rose H. McCall

The Platinum DIVA Speaks: Self-Care is the BEST Care
This week we lost one of our brightest lights in the Pageant community, Miss USA 2019, Chesli Kryst. You never know what is going on behind a person's face until you pull the mask that hides their despair and disappointment. Get some help can be easily said. It was said to me many years ago. It's been said to alot of us. We need to care for each other more during this time of COVID and self-imposed quarantine. It never hurts to ask: "Are you ok?" because they may not be. Call a friend, hunt for them on Facebook if they have not been seen or heard from in sometime, write a letter like we used to do years ago just to say hello.

Episode 43: Tips on Visualization for the Pageant Queen
Welcome to my latest episode of "Pageant Journeys w/Alabama Sr. America"! I noticed that I have had almost 300 plays of my Podcast and listeners from 8 countries plus the USA! Fabulous! I hope that you will leave a comment, continue following and listening and be blessed by my podcast! This week is about VISUALIZATION - using your mind to "see" your goal in order to achieve it. Positive Visualization In order to achieve the type of success you want in life, you must VISUALIZE IT! In other words, – see it as it happens – wear the CROWN as if you already had it. You must be able to ask and answer the following questions: a) What do you want out of this pageant? Scholarship money for school, make friends, advance your cause or platform or do you shoot for a bigger fish – a national title and the money that comes with it?; b) Do you know the competition and are not worried because you are better than the rest? NEVER assume that you are so good that you do not have to STUDY the ones you compete against. Like any good sportswoman (and believe me, pageantry is the Super bowl for women) PREPARE for the game by studying your opponents. If you know their strengths and weaknesses, YOU stay ahead of them in the minefield of life; c) What is your end goal for being here? What do you plan to achieve? Do you have a “Master” plan to the crown? (Excerpt from my book "The Beauty Queen's Little Instruction Book"! https://triplecrownpag2019.wixsite.com/msalsramerica2020 Rev. Rose H. Episode 42: Get Ready, Get Set, One year to go to Senior America
The Pandemic put the breaks on a lot of things... Sports activities, family gatherings, but most of all for those of us who love competition - Pageants! This weekend we would have all been flying, driving, traveling in one fashion or another to the 41st Annual Senior America Pageant for 2020. Its been moved now to 2021 due to concerns about health, families and more. Its not too late for you to apply if you would like to join our Sisterhood of Queens and celebrate the "Age of Elegance" as we approach another stellar moment in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Our reigning Queen, Esmeralda Ybarra Hetrick, has done a wonderful job encouraging and promoting Sr. America and all her "Sister-Queens" during this time of crisis. Rev. Rose H. McCall, ALABAMA Sr. America 20/21 http://senioramerica.org/

Episode 39: RBG, CDM and Pageant Tips for life
This week a beloved and inspiring woman passed into history and the response to her passing showed just how much she was loved. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer, one fought long and hard, that inspires the rest of us "to keep it moving"! This is also the day before my son's birthday! He turns 31 tomorrow and I remind him every year how long my labor took. He just laughs. My topic for today focuses on pageant tips for the "young" beauty queen but I add key points for the Senior Beauty. You'll have to listen to find out what they are. Enjoy! Rev. Rose H. McCall - Alabama Senior America 20/21 Thanks to our local supporter LNC Tax Relief, LLC (of Montgomery for sponsoring this month's podcasts!

Episode 38: "Mustang Sally", Pageantry and The Mask Debate
What would life in the South be without an impending Hurricane at least every two weeks. Well, here comes Hurricane Sally to make her mark on an already difficult year. I am happy to also announce that I am in the recent issue of Pageantry Magazine on page 58 - upper left corner! Also as today is September 15th, I want to tell anyone contemplating throwing their masks away.... Just don't do it. The battle with COVID is not done until we have a vaccine. Rev. Rose H. McCall - Alabama Sr. America 20/21

Episode 37: Where were you on "9-11"?
By age 66 I have witnessed a lot of events in life, especially dealing with history and monumental change. No one had ever attacked our country on home soil. We were all shocked and overwhelmed. As a friend of mine said all those years ago, "you don't walk over and kick the Lion in the teeth and not expect it to bite you"! I have recounted the day's events in my podcast, and how it affected me and my family. Peace, love and brotherhood to all my listeners. Rev. Rose H. McCall - Alabama Sr. America 20/21

Episode 36: "Nowhere to Live: Homelessness in America"
My Social Impact Initiative is a daunting task but it must start somewhere. "Nowhere to live: Homelessness in America", is about the lack of fair, equal and affordable housing available in not just America but around the world. I was awe-struck during the Summer Olympics held in Brazil, when they profiled the Favelas, the substandard shanty areas where the majority of Black Brazil lives. What we have in America look like a paradise, compared to them. Our slums and "re-engineered housing complexes" need replacing - period. The average cost of housing in Montgomery is about $650 - 1200 a month and we have approximately 6000 units of everything from apartments to house for sale and or rent. The WORLD needs to take a step back after the dust settles and consider 1) A decent living wage, 2) the cost of a meal/eating in general; and 3) HOUSING to get people off the streets. Episode 35: Memories of my Chamberette past
I know what you're already thinking about this title. However, a Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce CHAMBERETTE was an official hostess for City events thru the Chamber. I was on the board for roughly 6 years and loved it while I was in it. Forty years have come and gone but I still have fond memories of all the things we did as a group. Rev. Rose H. Episode 34; "How can someone's death be inspiring?"
Like many of our Community - Black and White the world over we will spend this week in mourning Chadwick Boseman as if we KNEW him but there are three things to also take note of about how he lived and died. 1) He was diagnosed in 2016 - before he made his landmark movie. He underwent treatments, surgery and continued to "cover up" his sickness. He never allowed it to "overtake" him. 2) Hollywood is a very particular community. If you let one hint of illness show, you run the risk of being "passed over for jobs", agents might leave, leading to divulging your secret, so you keep it hidden. 3) And finally you work until EVERYTHING is done that you can possibly afford to do. Had it not been for COVID-19, he may have continued his treatments and worked one last project, but it was not meant to be. Rev. Rose H. Episode 33: "Blue Light Specials" and an expanding cityscape
Word of the day: Perspicacity - the quality of having a ready insight into things; Shrewdness. Yes - it takes a certain type pf person or business to grow a city. West Montgomery needs that kind of person. If you have ever driven to, through, or around Montgomery you have been privy to one of our "Blue Light Specials" - a Police Car with a ticket with your name on it. Rev. Rose H. Episode 21: A Somber Week
I meant for this to be a happy journey this week but instead it turned somber last Friday. Listen to the podcast. Understand that this is the worst of times and the best of times but that we need to continue to love and support each other to get to the "light at the end of the tunnel"! Rev. Rose H. Episode 20: Pageant Banners, Face Masks and Strange Interview Questions

Episode 19: Transportation Engineer
What else can I call myself? I transport my adult kids to and from work now and that is my "unofficial title"! Nothing is close to where we live in terms of their new jobs and their schedules now overlap so, here I am riding down the road making this thing called LIFE work. Enjoy my perspective as I take you along on my journey on one of Montgomery's busiest highways! Rev. Rose H. McCall - Alabama Sr. America 20/21

Episode 17: Something different - The power of Prayer
From the moment I could follow along with my mother as she read our family Bible (which I still have to this day - its about 75 years old or more) I have always believed int he power of prayer and known that if you "prayed with a sincere heart and waited on the Lord", that he would answer you in due time. We need to get back to this understanding, following after God's own heart, rather than our own wants and desires. Rev. Rose H. McCall - Alabama Sr. America 20/21

Episode 16: Another Day, another sick (extended) family member
Today was supposed to be my radio broadcast from a local station - 94.1, so I went in about 30 minutes early only to find half the place was now sick! I quickly put everything back in the crown case and waved good-bye to my friend the anchor dj because he really did not llok well at all, and drove off. This will be done another day or as a remote =, in the future,

Are you a PGK? I am!
Are you a PGK? I am, a Preacher's Grandkid that is! I spent many a Summer weekend with my parents taking my grandfather down to his churches in Escambia County, Alabama and Escambia County, Florida... the only county in this state that crosses borders. He was the founder of the congregation in Brewton, Alabama and we have several old photos made before I was born, with my parents and grandparents. I used to run and play in the tall grass near the church, never fearing I might step on a corn snake or something else. Little kids who have no fear can do anything! They grow up to be really curious people!
