Audiobook Sales Data
This week's episode features 2020 sales data from the audiobooks industry. Stats are from the Audio Publishers Association (APA), Edison Research, and Triton Digital. Key Takeaways General fiction, mysteries / thrillers / suspense genre, science-fiction or fantasy, and self-help audiobooks accounted for just over half of all units* sold in 2020. The health and fitness genre experienced the most growth, with a 209% increase in units sold over 2019, while there was also renewed interest in history, biographies or audiobook memoirs that saw a 49% uptick in 2020. 56% of audiobook listeners are under the age of 45; this is up from 52% in 2020. 70% of consumers agree audiobooks are a good choice for relaxing. Daily audiobook listeners spend more time listening to books than any other form of audio (radio, podcasts, etc.).
