The Perfect Sacrifice
The Superior Sacrifice Hebrews 10:1‑10 | Jesus perfect, once‑for‑all sacrifice gives believers confidence and assurance to live for Him, freed from striving to be good enough and from the burden of repeated offerings that can never take away sin.In this sermon from our Hebrews series, The Supremacy of Christ, we see how the law and its sacrifices were only a shadow pointing to Christ, the true substance who deals with the root of our sin and not just the surface. Pastor Ryan shows why it isimpossiblefor the blood of bulls and goatsor our own religious effortsto remove sin, and how Jesus obedient, willing sacrifice fulfills Gods will and establishes the New Covenant. Youll be invited to move from mere rule‑keeping or fear of hell to genuine love for God, to ask Him for a deeper desire to know Him, and to rest in the assurance that nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Whether you wrestle with guilt, feel spiritually dry, or wonder if you can ever be sure of your salvation, this message will help you fix your hope not on your performance but on Christs finished work and the ongoing sanctifying power of God in your life. Join us as we learn what it means to turn from a staircase of sand built on our own works and stand instead on the solid ground of Jesus superior sacrifice. Next Steps Admit that your own good works and religious routines cannot take away your sin, and turn instead to Jesus once‑for‑all sacrifice for forgiveness. Identify shadow habits in your lifeways you try to manage guilt without dealing with the root of sinand bring those roots honestly to Christ in repentance. Ask God daily: Give me a desire to know You more, especially when you do not feel like praying, reading Scripture, or drawing near to Him. Examine your worship: are you merely going through the motions out of obligation, or serving and giving from love for God and gratitude for Christs sacrifice? Commit to regular, intentional engagement with Gods Word so that your assurance rests on His promises and character, not on changing feelings. Preach the truth of Christs finished work to your own heart when your conscience accuses you, remembering that Jesus sacrifice is sufficient and that He will never cast out those who are His. Share with others how Christ has freed you from striving to be good enough, and invite them to trust in His superior sacrifice for their own salvation. The Work of the Holy Spirit
Are you living in the strength of your own efforts, or in the power of the Holy Spirit? In this sermon, The Work of the Holy Spirit, we walk through John 1416 to see how the Spirit restores the presence of Jesus in us, represents the person of Jesus to us, recalls the promises of Jesus for us, and releases the power of Jesus through us. You will be encouraged to see that you are never a helpless orphan, because Christ has given you another Counselor the divine Paraclete to live in you forever and make Jesus more real than the very skin on your body. Whether you are longing for deeper assurance, boldness in witness, or courage under trial, this message will help you understand who the Holy Spirit is and how He works in the life of an ordinary Christian. As you yield every room of your heart to Him, you will discover the freedom that comes where the Spirit is Lord and the joy of knowing Jesus in an intimate, personal way. Next Steps Surrender every area of your life to the Holy Spirits lordship and ask Him to fill you afresh each day. Spend time in John 1417, asking the Spirit to make the presence and promises of Jesus real to your heart. Confess and turn from any known sin that is grieving or quenching the Spirits work in you. Rely on the Spirit to recall Gods Word when you share the gospel, face trials, or need wisdom in conversation. Pray for our church family to be truly Spirit-filled so that those who worship with us are convicted of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and drawn to Christ. The Nail-Scarred Hands
In this message, The Nail-Scarred Hands fromLiving Word Community Church, we look closely at the risen Christ who still bears the scars of His crucifixion, the only manmade marks in Heaven. Those nail-scarred hands declare that God has suffered, that He feels our pain, and that He chose to enter our broken world in love so that by His wounds we might be healed. As we consider Thomass encounter with the risen Lord, we see how Jesus invites doubting, hurting people to draw near, to see His hands, and to move from unbelief to the confession, My Lord and my God. This sermon will help you face the problem of pain, see how God uses suffering to protect, unify, and correct His people, and find comfort in the Savior who walks with us in every trial and will one day wipe away every tear. If you are wrestling with doubt, grief, or deep questions, come place your hand in His nail-scarred hand and discover the hope and healing that can only be found in Jesus. Next Steps Place your hand in Jesus nail-scarred hand by turning from your sin and trusting Him as your Lord and Savior. Bring your wounds, doubts, and questions honestly to Christ, believing that He understands and cares. Ask God to use your scars and past suffering as a testimony to comfort and encourage others who are hurting. Endure trials as loving discipline from your Father, trusting Him to produce righteousness, peace, and maturity in you. Extend to others the same comfort you have received from God in your own seasons of suffering. No Blood, No Forgiveness
Without the shedding of blood there is no forgivenessdiscover why Hebrews 9:1822, the Passover lamb, and Palm Sunday all point toJesus our Passover Lambwho died so you can be forgiven and set free from slavery to sin and death. In this Palm Sunday message, PastorRyan Skolrudunpacks the seriousness of covenant, the blood-sprinkled scroll, hyssop, scarlet wool, and the sacrificial system to show how they all find their fulfillment in Christs once-for-all sacrifice on the cross. If youve ever wondered why the Bible speaks so much about blood, sacrifice, and atonementand what that means for your forgiveness and assurancethis sermon will help you see the beauty of penal substitutionary atonement and the hope of being washed in the blood of Jesus. In this sermon from our seriesHebrews The Supremacy of Christ, we trace the story from the first Passover in Exodus, through Moses covenant ceremony, to Jesus riding into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday as the true Passover Lamb. Youll see how the lambs blood on the doorposts, the hyssop branch, the scarlet wool, and the temple sacrifices were all shadows pointing to the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. You will be invited not just to understand the gospel more deeply, but to respond by repenting of sin, submitting your life to Jesus, and resting in His finished work for your salvation. If you are burdened by guilt, trying to earn Gods favor, or wrestling with whether God could really forgive you, this message will point you to the cross where justice and mercy meet. Learn why the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord and how His blood, shed in your place, secures full and final forgiveness for all who call on His name. There is no better day than today to have the blood of Christ painted on the doorposts of your heart and to experience the freedom, cleansing, and new life only He can give. Next Steps from the Sermon I will repent and submit my life to Jesus. I will trust the blood of Christ alone for the forgiveness of my sins. I will stop trying to earn my salvation and rest in Jesus finished work on the cross. I will remember, especially during Holy Week, that Christ is my Passover Lamb who frees me from slavery to sin and death. I will align my life more fully with Gods Word as I reflect on the cost of my forgiveness. Scripture Passages Used Hebrews 9:1822 Zechariah 9:9 Exodus 12:113 (Passover lamb and blood on the doorposts) Exodus 24 (Mosaic Covenant inauguration with blood) Psalm 51:7 Isaiah 1:18 John 1:29 John 19:2830 (hyssop and sour wine at the cross) Romans 6:23 1 John 1:9 Link to sermon notes:https://churchlinkfeeds.blob.core.windows.net/notes/46257/note-262951.htmlConnection Card:https://livingwordcc.breezechms.com/form/connection-cardIf any of our resources have blessed you, please consider giving to the mission ofLiving Word Community Church. Death Required
Jesus death wasnt an accident or a backup planit was the only way the new covenant could be put into effect. In this message, Death Required from Hebrews 9:1518, Pastor Ryan Skolrud unpacks why Christ had to die as themediatorof a new and better covenant, so that those who are called might receive the promised eternal inheritance. Youll see how Scripture links covenants, wills, and bloodwhy even the first covenant was inaugurated with sacrifice, how Jesus death redeems sins committed under the old covenant, and how every major covenant in the Bible finds its fulfillment in Him. This sermon will help you understand why the cross was required for our salvation, why the law could expose our sin but never save us, and how Christs once-for-all sacrifice secures an unshakable inheritance for all who repent and trust Him. Whether youre wrestling with the justice of God, trying to make sense of suffering, or wondering if your sin has the final word, youll be invited to take refuge in Jesus finished work and submit your life to the One who died to bring you into Gods eternal family. Redemption Obtained
Jesus didnt just cover our sins; He obtained eternal redemption with the only sacrifice that could truly save. In this message, Redemption Obtained from Hebrews 9:1114, Pastor Ryan Skolrud shows how Christ, our great High Priest, entered the greater heavenly tabernacle once for all by His own blood, securing a complete and everlasting redemption that the Old Testament sacrifices could only foreshadow. Youll see how Jesus fulfills the imagery of the Day of Atonement and the scapegoat, what Scripture means by penal substitutionary atonement, and how the blood of Christ not only satisfies Gods justice but also cleanses our consciences from dead works so we can serve the living God with confidence and joy. This sermon will help you wrestle honestly with the reality of sin, hell, and Gods holiness, while holding out the sure hope that heaven is not for good people, but for forgiven people who know they are not good enough and trust entirely in Jesus finished work. Whether youre questioning how a loving God can have wrath, wondering if youve done enough to be saved, or longing for assurance that your debt is truly paid, youll be invited to turn from self-reliance and submit your life to the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Insufficient Sacrifices
Religious activity can clean up the outside, but only Jesus can change the heart. In this message, Insufficient Sacrifices from Hebrews 9:610, Pastor Ryan Skolrud explains how the Old Covenant priests, tabernacle, and continual sacrifices could never truly perfect the worshipers conscience, but were designed as a parable pointing forward to Christs once-for-all, transforming sacrifice. Youll see why access to God was so restricted under the first covenant, how Jesus tore the veil and opened the way into the true Most Holy Place, and why no human systemwhether Old Testament ritual or modern religious performancecan replace coming directly to God through Jesus alone. This sermon will encourage you to move beyond external spirituality and into honest confession, genuine repentance, and bold confidence before the throne of grace. Youll be invited to bring your hidden sins into the light, trust that Christ saves completely, and experience the cleansing and freedom promised in the new covenant. Next Steps:- I will confess my sins to God and to a friend.- I will repent and submit my life to Jesus. Regulations for Worship
God doesnt leave worship up to our preferencesHe cares deeply about how we approach Him. In this message, The Superior Covenant from Hebrews 9:15, Pastor Ryan Skolrud walks through the Old Testament tabernacle, its furniture, and the mercy seat to show how every detail of the first covenants worship regulations was intentionally designed by God to point us to Jesus. From the lampstand and the bread of the Presence, to the veil, ark of the covenant, and the cherubim overshadowing the mercy seat, we see how Christ is our true light, our bread of life, our atoning sacrifice, and our Great High Priest who entered the real Holy of Holies with His own blood. This sermon will help you see that true worship is not about empty ritual or doing what feels spiritual, but about responding to God on His termsin Spirit and in truthby offering our whole lives as living sacrifices in view of His mercy. Whether youre curious about how the Old Testament connects to Jesus, wrestling with what acceptable worship really means, or longing to better understand the cross as both propitiation and expiation, youll be invited to trust Christs finished work and submit every part of your life to Him in worship. Next Steps: I will repent and submit my life to Christ. The Superior Covenant
The new covenant in Christ doesnt just cover sin temporarilyit transforms hearts and brings complete forgiveness forever. In this message, The Superior Covenant from Hebrews 8:713, Pastor Ryan Skolrud unpacks how God Himself promised a new and better covenant that would do what the old covenant, weakened by our sinful hearts, could never do. Youll see how Jeremiahs prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus: God writes His law on our minds and hearts, gives us new hearts by the Spirit, forgives our wrongdoing, and remembers our sins no more, making us His people rather than His enemies. This sermon will help you understand why religious effort and law-keeping cant save us, why we desperately need grace, and how the new covenant moves us from external rules to an internal transformation rooted in Christs finished work. Whether youre weighed down by guilt, confused about the Old vs. New Covenant, or longing for assurance of Gods forgiveness, youll be invited to turn from self-reliance to the Savior who makes us new creations and reconciles us to God. Copies & Shadows
Religious activity can never save usbut it can powerfully point us to the only One who does. In this message, Copies Shadows from Hebrews 8:16, Pastor Ryan Skolrud shows how the Old Testament tabernacle, priests, sacrifices, and even seasons like Lent are copies and shadows of a greater reality: Jesus Christ, our exalted High Priest, ministering in the true heavenly sanctuary and mediating a better covenant built on better promises. Youll see how every element of the Levitical system was designed to lift our eyes above earthly rituals and toward the finished work of Christ, who offered Himself once for all and now invites us into a relationship, not mere religion. This sermon will challenge you to examine where you may be trusting in habits, traditions, or church activity instead of in Jesus Himself, and it will encourage you to use practices like fasting and Lent not as a way to earn favor with God, but as a way to focus your heart more fully on the One who already sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Whether youve grown up around church your whole life or are just beginning to explore the Christian faith, youll be invited to fix your mind on things above, rest in the better covenant Christ secured, and respond personally to His call to repent and believe. Next Steps: I will fast from __________ for this Lenten season. I will repent and submit my life to Christ. A Superior Priesthood
Christ is oursuperiorpriest, the only One whose indestructible life and finished work can bring true righteousness, lasting peace with God, and confident access to His presence. In this message from Hebrews 7:1117, Pastor Ryan unpacks why the Levitical priesthood and the Mosaic Law could never make us perfect, how Jesus fulfills and surpasses them, and why His priesthood according to the order of Melchizedek changes everything. Through this sermon, you are invited to turn from self‑reliance and rule‑keeping, look to Jesus alone for righteousness, and rest in the forever priest whose once‑for‑all sacrifice secures your forgiveness, justification, and peace with God. Blessing the Blesser
In Blessing the Blesser, Pastor Ryan Skolrud continues our Hebrews series, The Supremacy of Christ, by unpacking Hebrews 7:410 and Abrahams tithe to Melchizedek. This message shows how Melchizedek points us to Jesus, our eternal High Priest, and how Gods superior blessing over our lives should move us to joyful gratitude rather than reluctant obligation. Instead of prosperity promises or guilt-driven pressure, this sermon explores the heart behind giving: a thankful response to Gods provision in salvation, daily needs, and every good gift. Youll learn how Old Testament tithes supported Gods work, how Christ fulfills and surpasses that system, and how believers today can bless God by giving financially, serving with their time and gifts, and sharing their resources to bless others. If you wrestle with tithing, generosity, or trusting God with your resources, this message will help you see giving as an act of worship flowing from theaseityand sufficiency of Godwho needs nothing, yet graciously chooses to bless his people. Youll be encouraged to respond to Christs superior priesthood by offering not just a tenth, but your whole life to him in faith, obedience, and repentance. Our Source of Salvation
Christ is the source of our salvation. Through His perfection, His sacrifice on the cross, and His resurrection, Jesus became the source of eternal salvation for all who believe and submit to Him. In a world offering many paths to meaning and redemptionwhether through personal achievement, religious works, or alternative philosophiesthe truth remains: there is no one else who can save us from the bondage of our sin.
