The Next Secretary of Defense Knows Christian Education

Off the top, Chris and Christine discuss the shocking news of a Wisconsin Christian school shooting this week. How in the world did a Christian school miss a troubled young woman like this? The Stigall explore why a lack of scrutiny and a "take all comers" policy of Christian schools may be a dangerous mistake. Then, it wasn't too long ago Pete Hegseth was a host on Fox News and had authored a book on his deep concerns about America's education system and how he and his wife have chosen to make aggressive moves in educating their blended family. In some cases, even removing them from certain private Christian education for falling just as short as public education. Now, Hegseth is considered a "highly controversial" pick for President-elect Trump's next Secretary of Defense. While the Stigalls don't debate his qualifications for his appointment, you'll get a good sense of who Hegseth is as a father.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Meet The Woman Who Kept Men Out Of Her Women-Only College

Saint Mary's College, an all women's Catholic school not far from the University of Notre Dame is the lone female-only school left in the United States.  19-year-old sophomore Macy Gunnell who worked in the admissions office while taking classes at St. Mary's stumbled across something shocking in student recruitment literature.   The words "consistently live or identify as a woman" jarred the officer of St. Mary's College Republicans and Turning Point USA chapter.  That's when Macy sprung into action.  Hear the story of one bold, young woman's fight to preserve and protect her all-women's Catholic school and the lengths to which she went to eliminate "woke-ism" from her campus with the help of the local bishop, the media, and a lot of determination.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. SPECIAL EDITION: Mom To Mom

We're trying a new feature here at Making the Leap.  The concept is simple.  Now that the Stigalls have "made the leap" to Christian education and have a better understanding of all that goes into the decision, Christine decided to talk with moms she knows who've also made the leap and how they arrived at the decision.  How is it working?  What would they do differently?  How is God moving in their family life.  We find the simplest way to reach others and encourage them in making the leap is to hear stories of others who've done it.  Once a month, we have a personal conversation - just "Mom To Mom." Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. The Only Christian School In Town

This episode might reflect one of the biggest "leapers" we've ever featured. Both geographically and in terms of educating her kids. Stephanie Murray was a young mother in Boston whose husband's work to her to Park City, Utah. She began by placing her kids in a Montessori school, before pulling them to homeschool. The Murray family quickly realized the need for a Christian school in their back yard andthe interest many other families had in what she was doing. It led her to create Telos Christian, and interestingly families of multiple faith backgrounds began to pour in. But how do you navigate a Biblically based curriculum in a town with many families who don't share those views and values? It's another inspiring story of someone making a way for Christian education in an environment where none exists.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. The Poison Politics Of Public School

It's no secret the presidential election of 2024 simply broke some people.  But what if it broke one of your kids' school teachers?  The Stigalls react to some headlines in the days and weeks surrounding this election.  They also unpack what seems to be an attempt by some "red states" and their governors and legislatures to re-introduce Scripture and discussions of faith in the public classroom which is leading to more feuds in court.  The bottom line?  If the culture and how it impacts your kids is your concern - it's probably time to have an honest conversation with yourself just as the Stigalls do in today's episode.  The only real fix to this starts in our own hearts and homes.  Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Who Says You Can't Have A Job And Homeschool?

Are you a professional who thinks you don't have the time or resources to make a change in your child's education? One of the most impressive stories we've heard on the show is that of Constance Bradley. She began with a son in public school who was so bright he was simply left aside in the classroom. As the owner of her own real estate agency with a team of eight - Constance decided to homeschool her son and two other children. And she did it while keeping her agency running! But when her Oregon community took notice of what she was doing, she felt guided to partner with her church to create a community school for more families. In one year, Constance secured grant money, bought a building, and became director of Rogue Christian Academy which instantly welcomed hundreds of families looking for educational alternatives of their own. Hear how she did it, and the advice she gives you if you're feeling stuck or uninspired to "Make the Leap." But most important, how listening to God and being willing to evolve is critical to your child's ultimate success with learning. Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Church, School, And Home. How Do Yours Compare?

Have you heard of RenewaNation?  They are an organization near and dear to our hearts.  They share many of the same objectives of our parent organization, The Herzog Foundation.  In addition to impacting schools with a Biblical worldview,  theirs expands into the church and the home as well. They say it is that three-stranded cord of church/school/home that, if properly aligned with a Biblical worldview can truly renew our nation.  Hear how one of their executive directors - Josh Mulvihill explains his organizational roll in specifically counseling families on best practices to keep your kids and family on the right path in a cultural storm.   From grandparents rolls to phones, politics and media - this is a great conversation to sharpen our focus!Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. These Moms Carry A Big Political Stick

If you're a concerned parent about the state of your community's schools, odds are you've heard of Moms for Liberty. They've played a big roll in the presidential election cycle, with candidates since the primaries attempting to court their support. They aren't a partisan group. They don't pledge to a particular party. But who are they? What are their goals? Is there a chapter in your neck of the woods? Jamie Tromba is one of the original chapter founders in the all-important swing county of Bucks, in the swing state of Pennsylvania and she explains how her chapter came to be and what they face in the fight to keep their kids' educations free from indoctrination. Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Elections, The Church, And Your Kids

With a major, national election just around the corner, the Stigalls contemplate with their pastor, Dr. Ken Parker the role of the church and its leaders' in discussing civics, voting, and education with our school-aged kids and how they do or don't compliment our primary focus - Jesus, and the Word of God. Is your church speaking up about the issues of the day and advocating for your Christian walk through your week? Is your church leadership bold, or lukewarm? Christian schools thrive when they're inhabited by students and teachers who come from strong, truth telling churches. Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Does Your Child's School Make The Grade?

We bring back a familiar voice to Making the Leap this week. Ginny Gentles - a senior fellow at Independent Women's Forum - has now joined with a fairly new D.C. based organization called the Defense of Freedom Institute where she serves as the Director of Education Freedom and Parental Rights. Ginny's mission is to push for more educational freedom at the national level and make parents aware across the country of not only options to public education, but also holding the public school teachers' unions accountable. In this episode, we discuss her agenda and the obvious need that exists for parents to have as many options available to them as possible for their kids' educations. How One Christian School Literally Rose From The Ashes

Sometimes we hear churches find reasons why opening their doors to Christian schools or homeschool programs doesn't work for them. We've never heard of a church totally destroyed, only for the leadership to declare - "We must rebuild, and this time with a school!" That's the story of Victory Church in Bloomington, Illinois - home to Foundation Christian Academy. Hear from the executive pastor Jarrod Herald who shares how a 23,000 square foot church had to be completely leveled after a fire and what his father, the senior pastor of the church said God asked him to do in a dream when it was time to rebuild. Christian Media Is Booming!

While there's never been a bigger selection and menu of Christian media options today, there's also never been a more aggressive push to silence those products. That's why the National Religious Broadcasters exist as an organization - to advocate for and defend Christian programming. President of the NRB, Troy Miller has invited the Stigalls to participate in producing Making the Leap from their annual convention and they will return next year with their colleagues from the Herzog Podcast Network and the Lion to formally join the NRB. In today's conversation we get a peek inside the battles Christian programmers sometimes fight to get their products to market for their audiences. The NRB has been in existence for over eighty years when radio was the primary media delivery system. Fighting For Family

If you're a parent, it's no secret the secular world is working overtime to drive a wedge in between you and members of your family. Chris and Julie Bennett have one of the most extraordinary stories of trying to listen and follow God's will for their lives while at the same time coming up against some of life's biggest challenges in their professional lives, in their health, and in their relationship with their kids. How do we as families hold it all together and keep "the main thing" the main thing? How do we battle loneliness, isolation and defeat from swallowing our kids? This was one of the Stigall's favorite conversations to date. It's fun, it's emotional, and it's thought provoking. When Tragedy Strikes, Who Tells Your Kids?

The news of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump last Saturday got the Stigalls thinking about the different national tragedies that have befallen the United States over the years and who are our kids spending time with when they happen? How can we discuss these tough events with our kids and shield them from the ugliness? In addition, news this week of the explosive growth in alternative post K-12 education caught their attention and the governor of California signs legislation that should serve as a major concern for any parent with school-aged kids.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Embrace Change If Your School Isn't Getting Through To Your Kids

Dr. Allison Lassiter is one of the more interesting examples of someone whose life in education is one full of change. She's a community college professor who also homeschools but has also placed some of her kids in a classical Christian school. She's also willing to revaluate if it appears her kids' needs in learning change. As we know, every child learns differently so why do we try to teach them all the same way? Dr. Lassiter understood from an early age why learning for her was a struggle because her own mother was willing to make changes that ultimately shot her to the head of her class by graduation. If there's one thing we learn in this conversation it's that we need to shed the self-imposed handcuffs - even in Christian school settings - that we're locked in and scrap the notion that we can't change the way we're teaching our kids if it's not working.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. This Family Shatters One-Size Fits All Education

We've never met a couple with a background quite like the Oettels. In one conversation, you'll hear how a young couple became public school teachers - while first home-schooling their kids. They then started their own classical Christian school, followed by entering seminary, becoming a youth pastor and eventually an associate pastor. Then back to public school while sending their own children to a classical Christian school. Why all the change? With so many different perspectives from so many different venues - what did the Oettels learn? Which setting do they think best to learn and teach? How does Lacey navigate teaching in public school while her own kids aren't enrolled there while she yearns for her past in Christian education? What does Jon think about the Church's responsibility to open their doors to developing their own educational offering? If you take nothing else from this conversation, it's that keeping your eyes and ears open to the way the Lord moves in your family's lives can lead to big changes you can lean into rather than ignore.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Live On Set! An Exclusive Conversation with Kirk Cameron

The Stigalls head to College Station, Texas to get a behind-the-scenes tour of Brave Books' new children's TV show hosted by Kirk Cameron. In part one of this two-part episode, you'll join the Stigalls on set for a one-on-one with the star of "Adventures with Iggy and Mr. Kirk." He discusses the importance of being a parent in a digital age and why, as successful entertainer and father of adult children who could be doing anything at this stage of his life instead works so hard to impact our nation's kids.Kids of the 80s - you can appreciate Chris and Christine getting a little geeked-out talking with one of the stars of a hit TV show from their formative years. But despite his star-power with some, Kirk is humble, kind, and passionate about our kids' futures. Digital Technology: Your Child's Friend Or Enemy?

Here's a topic we've never tackled on the show. Can Christians, specifically Christian schools lean into rapidly developing technology like A.I. or is it a dangerous place that runs counter to Biblical teaching? Dr. Seann Dikkers is both a Christian and a self-proclaimed homeschool dad and "tech guy" who reaches some interesting conclusions on the subject as he leads the Stigalls through the minefield of culture, big tech, and faith. He's created an online, K-12 curriculum called "Portals" that's a one stop shop for every day, in every subject to make homeschooling a breeze.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Answering Life's Biggest Questions For Kids

What if your child asked "What is truth?" or "What does it mean to be human?" Those are deep questions and Elizabeth Urbanowicz - the founder of FoundationWorldview.com and host of "The Foundation Worldview" podcast says the answer is in her approach to helping parents instruct kids through Biblical strategies. For Christian parents, not only knowing what you believe but also knowing why you believe it is important. But it's also how you steer your kids to believe it as well in an increasingly secular and hostile world. It's a lot easier when you know where to start and Elizabeth tells the Stigalls how today. Slaying Government. Winning School Choice.

Bob Vander Plaats is perhaps the state of Iowa's biggest political "influencer."  As the President and CEO of The Family Leader, Bob is known as a cultural force for strengthening families and encouraging churches to get involved in government to impact real, legislative change.  Together he and Governor Kim Reynolds launched a strategic mission to target recalcitrant members of the Iowa legislature on advancing school choice and they won.  Today, Iowa is one of twelve states to pass sweeping school choice legislation allowing families across the state access to the education of their choice, no longer bound by a zipcode.  Hear Bob's inspiring personal story, and how he has led one of the most impactful cultural, spiritual, and legislative shifts in his state's recent history.Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Christian School Before It Was Cool

The Stigalls often speak with folks who are on the ground floor of starting a new adventure in Christian education. But sometimes we forget - there are many who've been doing Christian school at a high level of excellence for decades. That is the focus of today's episode. For twenty-seven of Covenant Christian High School's thirty years in existence in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Andy Goodwin has served as their principal. He also hosts his own podcast called "Transforming Lives."What has he learned about the challenges and rewards of a Christian school growing and expanding to the size of what many would consider a "traditional" public high school while maintaining the focus on the Kingdom?Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Schools Need Leaders, Not Lawyers

It's important from time to time to remember what your rights are as a taxpaying citizen in your public school district.  If you're someone who's yet to "make the leap" to a different education for your kids, or you're just a concerned citizen about the direction of the schools in your community - this is your show.  Ian Prior is a senior advisor at America First Legal and author of "Parents of the World Unite."  In a world of school boards run amok, Ian reminds us that you have every legal right and obligation to make your voice heard at school board meetings.  Further, school board members should answer to you, not to the school district's attorneys.  Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Another Public School Cover-Up

Chris and Christine depart into a news of the week show where they discuss the shocking story out of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in the North Penn School District. Parents and citizens are outraged as a massive cover-up of a brutal attack is perpetuated by both media and their school board. Hear Chris interview one parent so upset she's ready to "make the leap" and an average citizen in the community with no children boldly stands up and speaks out at the local school board meeting. Plus, a discussion of the Biden administration's decision to re-write Title IX and an uplifting interview with actor, author, and now children's TV host Kirk Cameron. Follow Making The Leap on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Modern Feminism Is Punishing Our Girls

It's not a surprise that Christian and conservative girls and young women find the outside world hostile to their point of view, particularly in higher education. Karin Lips founded the Network of Enlightened Women (enlightenedwomen.org) because she came up in college understanding traditional women felt driven underground, keeping their world view hidden from classroom discussion, clubs, and more.
