Our pastor preaches exegetical, expositional sermons with the goal for the Lord to be glorified and the believer might be edified.See our website at https://www.mbcglobe.org for more information.

  1. 81

    Nineveh Repents

Jonah 3:5-10 Jonah preaches the word of God to the Ninevites they hear and they repent. The message reaches the greatest and the least - even the king. The King issues a decree expanding their fast. The text shows us what repentance looks like. They received a believable message from a reliable source and so they repent. True repentance plus sound doctrine will result in godly living. Pastor Brian also mentions what happens to Nineveh following the close of the book of Jonah.

  2. 80

    Repent or Perish

Jonah 3:1-5 In this sermon, Pastor Brian Morris examines what we can learn about preaching from Jonah. Jonah preaches a sermon that leads to mass repentance from the people of Nineveh, yet it seems that Jonah does not preach to himself first. What Jonah does right is that he simply preaches the word, and the word does the work. In all of this though we see that Jonah's message is not all that different from ours today. We also have a message to preach of repent or perish, as we see Jesus preach in Luke 13:5. We get the joy of preaching Christ and him crucified for the salvation of sinners.

  3. 79

    The Song of Jonah

Sermon Text: Jonah 1:17-2:10 Jonah cries out to God from the belly of the fish. Though he has sought to flee from the Lord's presence in chapter 1, here in chapter two he longs to be in the presence of God again. From this text Pastor Brian points out that God desires more than just lip service from us, that Salvation belong to God, and that there is nowhere that God's children can go where God's cannot hear you.

  4. 78

    The Sovereignty of God

Sermon text: Jonah 1:7-17 Jonah has headed in the opposite direction of Nineveh to Tarshish, though he still cannot escape God's presence. Ironically, Jonah has sought to escape the God of the land and the sea by ship. God has sent a storm to judge Jonah. This text shows us that God is sovereign over the lots, the sea, the salvation of sinners, and even animals. God's sovereignty encourages us in our mission to bring the gospel to lost sinners.

  5. 77

    As The Dove Flies

Jonah 1:1-6. From our first sermon in our series through the book of Jonah. We see how Jonah, like his namesake the dove, flies away from God in a silly and senseless manner. The Lord calls him to preach against the evil of the Ninevites, yet Jonah seeks to flee from the Lord's presence. Jonah will find that even in the storm on the Mediterranean Sea, and even in the belly of the whale he will not escape The Lord. Obeying God's call is always worth it, disobedience is always foolish.

  6. 76

    Our Everlasting God

Sermon Text: Psalm 90 Moses authors the first Psalm of book 4, and the final Psalm we look at for 2024. In this Psalm, Moses praises God for his eternality. He also observes and comments on man's mortality. After reflecting on these two things he remarks that we can gain wisdom from numbering our days.

  7. 75

Hope in the Bleakest of Psalms

Psalm 88 is known by many as the darkest of Psalms. It is a lament that is full of sorrow and seemingly lacking of praise. Though the Psalmist is close to death he still comes to the Lord day and night in prayer. From this Psalm, we see an example of a man desperately praying to God without ceasing. This Psalm helps us learn how to come to God in suffering. One day the Lord Jesus will wipe away every tear, but until then we may suffer. Suffering is hard, but it is not meaningless. God knows and sees your suffering and he is working in that for you good, and for his glory.

  8. 74

    The Glorious City of God

Psalm 87 like Psalm 84 is a Psalm that focuses on the city of God. Part of this finds its fulfillment in the physical city of Jerusalem, as this psalm would have been sung at the temple during feasts. However, as we read through this Psalm we see that it draws out eyes toward eternity. In the City of God we see a description of many different nations and they are described as being born there. Jesus tells Nicodemus, and us, that if one wishes to enter the Kingdom of God then he must be born again. And this Psalm foreshadows the idea that Jesus taught.

  9. 73

    The Love of God

Sermon text: Psalm 86 In Psalm 86 David asks the Lord for help and protection from his enemies. In this Psalm, he reflects on Exodus 34:6-7. He repeats that God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. In this Psalm David teaches us how to pray. He primarily asks God for grace and he celebrates God for who he is.

  10. 72

    Restoration

Dr. Jim Ptak preaches on Psalm 85.

  11. 71

    The Loveliest Place

Sermon text: Psalm 84 In this Pilgrimage Psalm, the Psalmist speaks of his desire to be in the dwelling place of God. He wants nothing more than to be where the Lord is. He even envies the birds who make their nests at the temple. Pastor Brian in his sermon shows us how even though we do not have a physical temple today this Psalm leads us to rejoice in God's Holy Spirit dwelling in believers, and the eternity they are promised in God's presence.

  12. 70

That They Might Know the Most High

In Psalm 83 we read the Psalmist asking for God to no longer be silent, but to speak. He is asking the Lord to bring judgment about the enemies of God, who are seeking to wipe out the people of God. Ultimately, he prays not only for them to be humiliated but for them to know God.

  13. 69

    The Justice of God

In Psalm 82 the Lord is seated in his divine assembly and he calls unjust rulers to listen. He pronounces an indictment upon them for failing to uphold justice and for failing to care for the weak, the poor, and the needy. These rulers that God has placed in their positions are to be his servants and to uphold his commands. The Lord is a holy and righteous judge and he warns them that his wrath will come upon those who love wickedness. Pastor Brian ends his sermon with a reminder that you will either fall upon the rock of ages and be broken with repentance and faith, or the rock of ages will fall upon you and you will be crushed. Those who have faith in Christ Jesus will be saved.

  14. 68

    Remember and Repent

Psalm 81 begins with a command to praise. The text draws our attention to the Feast of Tabernacles. Then the Psalm changes speaker and the Lord God is preaching a sermon to his people calling them to remember his mighty deeds before them and then calling them to repent of their sinfulness.

  15. 67

    Our Only Boast is Jesus

Sermon Text: Galatians 6:11-18 In this conclusion to his letter to the churches in Galatia Paul takes the quill to provide a final point and a signature. He drives home the point that this book is ultimately not about circumcision it is about salvation. Paul tells them that neither circumcision nor uncircumcision have any value - but rather the value is in a new creation. Paul tells them that the only reason he has to boast is in the cross of Christ. We ought to also find our only boast, and our only hope in Jesus and his cross.

  16. 66

    Bear One Another's Burden

From Galatians 6:1-10. In this text, Paul encourages us to bear one another's burdens. He argues this through Spiritual Restoration, caring for Spiritual Leaders, and the Spiritual Harvest. Paul gives a good standard for caring for all but especially caring for the household of faith.

  17. 65

    The Flesh or The Spirit

Sermon Text: Galatians 5:16-25. The Apostle Paul teaches the Galatians that there are two ways to live. You can live gratifying the desires of the flesh and run a hellbound race. Or you can crucify the flesh and the deeds of the flesh along with its passions - and seek to glorify God. The Fruit of the Spirit and the deeds of the flesh are incompatible.

  18. 64

    Keep Running Well

Sermon text: Galatians 5:7-15. Paul laments that the people have been deceived he mourns that they were running well and someone had deceived them. He reminds them they are free and should use their freedom to serve one another. This text gives us appropriate caution against being deceived by others and being careful not to mislead others. It serves as an instruction to us that we ought to use our freedom well, and to use it to serve others, not to to serve our flesh.

  19. 63

    The Hope of Righteousness

From Galatians 5:1-6. We have been set free in Christ, we ought not to allow ourselves to be forced back into a yoke of slavery. The gospel of Jesus Christ saves, our good works, our traditions, our actions do not. Paul in this text warns the Galatians about the message that the Judaizers have preached to them and shows them the logical conclusions of this message. If they accept circumcision they will be cut off from Christ.

  20. 62

    Two Covenants

Pastor Jim preaches from Galatians 4:21-31. In this text we learn how Paul uses the Old Testament to teach us about the New Covenant and our freedom in Christ.

  21. 61

    Happy Mother's Day Paul

In Galatians 4:8-20, Paul shows how dear the churches in Galatia are too him. Though Paul is angry he loves them enough to correct them and to show them the logical and spiritual conclusions of the theological errors they are embracing. Paul speaks to them as if he is a parent lovingly correcting a child.

  22. 60

    We're Adopted

In Galatians 4:1-7, Paul teaches us of our adoption in Christ Jesus. Those who are in Christ Jesus are no longer slaves to sin, or slaves to the law but adopted as sons of God.

  23. 59

    One in Christ

From Galatians 3:23-29 - Though we were once under a guardian, the law, that guardian is no longer needed since Christ has come. We have been united in Christ through his death and resurrection - those who have faith are brought together - we are all adopted and made sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

  24. 58

    Promise or Law

From Galatians 3:15-22 Paul explains that the law does not save, but only faith in Christ brings salvation. The law was never intended to save.

  25. 57

    Jesus Cursed For Us

From Galatians 3:10-14. Paul roots his theology of justification by faith in four Old Testament texts. In the last text he quotes Paul proclaims how Jesus becomes a curse for us in his crucifixion that we might become justified by faith in him.

  26. 56

    By Faith or Works?

Galatians 3:1-9. Paul continues his argument against the "Foolish Galatians" who have taken to believe that they can earn their salvation by keeping the law.

  27. 55

    Crucified with Christ

Galatians 2:15-21 - we have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer us who live but Christ who lives in us. We are comforted and we rejoice in the wonderful new of our justification by faith alone in Christ alone.

  28. 54

    Maundy Thursday

From our 2024 Maundy Thursday service. Pastor Brian looks at the events of the evening prior to Jesus' arrest. 1. Jesus in washing his disciple's feet provides them with an example of how he has come to serve and how they ought to serve one another. 2. The Lord's Supper is Jesus' meal for his disciples to proclaim his death until he returns.

  29. 53

    Apostolic Showdown

From Galatians 2:1-14. Pastor Brian looks at Paul's two historical anecdotes to reveal to the Galatians how they have been deceived. Paul in Jerusalem faced the circumcision party, who were adding works to the gospel. In Antioch, Paul had to correct Peter who was misunderstanding how the gospel is for the Jew and the Gentile.

  30. 52

    What's Your Story

Dr. Jim Ptak preaches on Paul's story in Galatians 1:11-24.

  31. 51

    No Other Gospel

From the first sermon in our series through the book of Galatians. This is an angry letter from the apostle Paul. He is upset and angry that this church that he loves has so quickly abandoned the gospel. Hear how this letter encourages us to remain faithful to the only Gospel and seek the approval of God and not man.

  32. 50

Where Is Your Heart? Bob Edmondson missionary report

Bob Edmondson visits to give us a ministry report from his service with Global Training Network as well as to preach from Matthew 19:16-30. The main question he draws out from the text is "Where is your heart?" The Rich Young Rulers heart was on his money, not on pleasing the Lord.

  33. 49

    The Chosen King

Haggai 2:20-23 - From our final sermon in our series through the book of Haggai we read of how God has chosen Zerubbabel his servant, and how he is going to make him into a signet ring.

  34. 48

Divine Blessings for a Defiled People

From Haggai 2:10-19, in the Lord's penultimate word for the people he asks them two questions from the law, and then teaches them following those questions. Holiness is not transferred in the same way that sin is transferred. Holiness is only transferred to us through Christ. Sin is transferred to us much easier.

  35. 47

Ben Joseph "Three Reasons for Missions"

Ben Joseph gives us a ministry report and speaks to us from Isaiah 55. Maranatha Baptist Church has supposrted Ben Joseph for over 35 years as a missionary with Friends of Internationals through Missions Door. We are thankful for his ministry at Arizona State University in Tempe. He has been faithfully ministering there for 40 years.

  36. 46

    The Temple's Latter Glory

Haggai 2:6-9. The Lord promises to give the people riches, glory and peace. He promises to give the people everything they need to rebuild the temple. However, there is a more important message in verse 9. The temple's latter glory will outshine that of Solomon's temple. That glory is Jesus. Jesus is God who dwelt among his people.

  37. 45

    The Promise of God's Presence

In Haggai 2:1-5 we hear the people being told that God is with them. This gives them comfort to continue on the work. They are reminded of their past, God's promise, and God's presence. In the same manner, we are also reminded of our pastor, God's promise and God's presence as we are encouraged to share the gospel with others.

  38. 44

    Rebuilding the People

God's people led by God's Word, repent of their sins, fear God, and obey his commands to rebuild God's house.

  39. 43

    Building For His Glory

From Haggai 1:7-11. The Lord gives a further instruction to rebuild the temple, but he also tells that them their harvest is lacking and their land is in drought because he has withheld the rain. He wants them to fix their worship and restore the temple. The people of Judah will soon repent, but God wants them, and us to seek his kingdom first. Whose kingdom are you seeking?

  40. 42

    Time to Rebuild

The people have returned from exile after 70 years. In Ezra 1-4 they begin to rebuild the temple and then stop following opposition. In Haggai the Lord calls them to repent after they have delayed for 16 years in rebuilding the temple. Their homes are cozy but the temple is in ruins. Their lives are seemingly in order, but their worship is neglected.

  41. 41

    What is Truth?

Pastor Jim Ptak preaches to us from John 14:1-6 teaching that Jesus is the Truth, the Way and the Life. He answers the question "What is Truth?", and shows us that we can know truth and that Truth is Jesus.
