Friday, August 28th, 2026- Joe Kooima and Brady Huck
Another Friday, another headline out of Washington for the cattle market. Joe Kooima of Kooima Kooima Varilek Trading in Sioux Center, Iowa joins Market Talk to break down why President Trump's latest social media post on meat processing deregulation barely moved an already oversold cattle market, where the technical support levels sit for October live cattle and feeders, why the lean hog chart has gone quiet, and why fund money is pushing corn toward a run at $5.65 with wheat and soybeans following along. Also corn, wheat and soybeans closed out a powerful two week rally on Friday even as they faded into the close, while the cattle market kept sliding under the weight of headline risk and weak feedyard leverage. Brady Huck of Empower Ag Trading in Kansas joins Market Talk to walk through his December and March corn seasonal charts, explain why funds keep piling into length, and break down why the cattle market's damage may not be finished yet.We also have analysis and perspective from Mike Castle, Senior Commodities Economist at StoneX in Segment One and discuss the topic of beef on dairy and U.S./Canada trade impact on dairy in Segment Four.Mentioned in this episode:Farm RescueLearn more at https://www.farmrescue.orgFarm RescueLearn more at https://www.farmrescue.org

On this week’s Cattle Chatter, Brad Kooima with Kooima Kooima Varilek breaks down why it was so unusual to see Northern cattle trade ahead of the Southern market and what that could mean for cattle producers. Brad also looks at plant closures, including Joslin, and how changes in processing capacity can work their way back into the cash cattle market. We also take a look at the border reopening this week, comparing cattle and futures prices from May 11, 2025, with where the market stands this week.Mentioned in this episode:Farm RescueLearn more at https://www.farmrescue.orgFarm RescueLearn more at https://www.farmrescue.org

He and host Jesse Allen dig into the Midwest crop tour's surprising soybean pod count data out of Indiana and Nebraska, a near-total collapse in Black Sea grain shipping capacity, why Paris corn futures are the chart to watch, and what a razor-thin global stocks-to-use ratio means for corn's next move. Monday, August 17th, 2026- John Heinberg, Eric Snodgrass and Mike Minor
On Monday's episode of Market Talk, Mike Minor of Professional Ag Marketing kicks things off to unpack Monday's soybean-led rally, driven by strong export inspections and continued Chinese buying for the new crop. Plus: cattle and hogs continue to digest the Tyson plant closure news, and Mike shares what he's watching on basis heading into harvest. In Segment Two, we get a look at the weather forecast for the week ahead including a recap of flooding, severe weather and drought with Eric Snodgrass from Nutrien Ag Solutions. Find more at https://www.agweather.com. And then, John Heinberg of Total Farm Marketing joins Market Talk to break down Monday's action across the grain and livestock complex. Soybeans led the way, closing above the May high and opening the door to a possible run at July highs, while corn stayed caught between beans and wheat just under the key $4.92 resistance level. John also digs into last week's Commitment of Traders data, where funds were net sellers of the core ags but massive buyers of sugar, coffee, and cotton — a pattern he ties to possible El Niño weather premium building for Brazil's next growing season. Plus: cattle and hogs react to the fallout from Tyson's plant closures, and John shares his marketing advice for producers heading into harvest.

Friday, August 14th, 2026- Joe Kooima and Brady Huck
Joe Kooima of Kooima Kooima Varilek in Sioux Center, Iowa joins Market Talk on Friday to break down a rough end of the week in the cattle complex after Tyson Foods announced it is closing two beef facilities, including the Joslin, Illinois plant, and looking to sell a third. Joe explains why this round of consolidation does not feel like the last two, what the loss of open interest is telling him about who is left in the cattle market, and why packer margins recovered almost overnight. He also looks at a stagnant hog market, the surprise corn yield cut in Wednesday's WASDE report, and the weather risk building west of the I-29 corridor. Brady Huck of Empower Ag Trading in Kansas also joins Market Talk to unpack a Friday that pulled the cattle and grain markets in opposite directions. On the cattle side, Tyson Foods announced it is closing the Joslin, Illinois plant and a case-ready facility in Utah while looking to sell Pasco, Washington. Brady walks through why the market still lacks conviction, why the boxed beef cutout is the number that has to move first, and what the chuck and the round have to do with any rally. On the grain side the tone flips. A supportive WASDE report, a national corn yield cut, Black Sea headlines and a wheat market making a run at eight dollars have given the bulls multiple stories to work with. Brady lays out what tight world stocks-to-use means going forward, and how producers should think about rewarding this rally without over-committing bushels they may not raise.

Thursday, August 13th, 2026- Bryan Doherty, Sue Martin and Cattle Chatter
Corn carryout is narrowing on both old crop and new crop and the resulting stocks-to-use figure is the tightest in four years. Bryan Doherty, Senior Market Advisor at Total Farm Marketing, joins Market Talk the day after the August WASDE to break down a 180.7 bushel national corn yield, the wide gap between the I-states and a drought-stressed western Corn Belt, and why he thinks 2027 sets up as a must-have crop year. Bryan also continues our lesson series built on Total Farm Marketing's special report, 12 Option Strategies for an Uncertain World, walking through the bull call spread and the bear put spread and when each one fits a producer's marketing plan. On this week's Cattle Chatter, brought to you by Zoetis, Brad Kooima with Kooima Kooima Varilek breaks down the latest slaughter numbers while looking at the impact of extreme heat, dry pastures and an uptick in video cattle sales. Was last week's cash cattle trade actually cattle purchased for deferred delivery? As Labor Day approaches, the focus turns to beef demand and boxed beef movement. How does the market get the boxes turned, and what will it take to keep product moving as we look beyond the holiday and into the fall? We also begin the program today with market analysis and perspective from Sue Martin with Ag & Investments in Clarion, IA during Segment One of Thursday's show.

USDA pegged corn yield at 180.7 bushels per acre and soybeans at 52.7, both under the average trade estimate, while adding more than a million acres of harvested area to each crop. Zuzolo's own client survey, released the night before, had corn at 181.0 and beans at 52.7. We cover the USDA modeling change that pulled the agency's numbers in line with private survey work, why Illinois and the western Corn Belt did the damage, the same-day subsoil moisture picture, new-crop corn carryout at 1.653 billion bushels, the deleted USDA tweet and the transparency questions that followed, Black Sea shipping and the rumor that pulled risk premium out of wheat, the feeder-corn ratio, USDA's 2.7 percent cut to third quarter beef production, and the cattle-to-S&P correlation flip. Also in Segment Four, we learn about Bayer's new exclusive licensing agreement with RAGT to bring hybrid wheat into commercialization by the early 2030s. Dr. Francis Beecher with Bayer joins us to discuss on the show.

Soybeans and wheat led the grains lower Tuesday as traders squared up positions ahead of Wednesday's August WASDE report, while corn held within a penny and cattle and hogs finished mixed. On Friday's Market Talk, we start the show with Mike Castle, senior commodities economist at StoneX, to break down a rebound in grains to close out the first week of August. Mike explains why the wheat rally tied to Black Sea escalation between Russia and Ukraine has more room to run. He also details a massive week of new-crop soybean flash sales to China and shares a look at the fertilizer complex, where sulfur and ammonia supply disruptions tied to the Strait of Hormuz are already forcing plant closures, including a fresh announcement in Europe this week. In Segment Two, Susan Littlefield joins us to share a broad market conversation with Heather Ramsey from The ARC Group as they look at the markets after the first week of August. Then, Scott Varilek of Kooima Kooima Varilek joins Friday's show to break down a volatile first week of August in the cattle complex. Scott discusses the stalled recovery in live cattle, why packer interest picked up briefly near $235-236, and why he expects late August and September to bring tougher trade. He also digs into early signs of heifer retention after years of talk without much movement, why packer margins could shift leverage back in their favor, and why lean hogs have struggled to capitalize on record beef demand.

He also discusses the uncertainty surrounding the Fort Morgan plant, dry pastures across parts of the West while other areas are finally receiving rain, and what those conditions could mean for cattle supplies. Then we talk with Bryan Doherty from Total Farm Marketing who discusses why corn may be closer to a breakdown than it looks, what next week's WASDE and FSA numbers could mean for direction, why the stock market rally isn't translating cleanly to livestock, and why he can't find a convincing bearish case for wheat right now. Later, Bryan continues his ongoing options strategy series with a breakdown of short call and short put options — what they are, how they work, and why they can be powerful tools for producers and end users alike.

Wednesday, August 5th, 2026- DuWayne Bosse and Tommy Grisafi
Grain markets stayed mixed and quiet on Wednesday, with corn and beans slipping while wheat found a bid. DuWayne Bosse of Bolt Marketing joins Market Talk to dig into what's driving the action heading into harvest season — starting with the "great yield debate" now underway between analyst estimates and on-the-ground crop conditions across Iowa, Illinois, North Dakota, and South Dakota. He also covers the state of China's soybean purchase pace against its 25-million-metric-ton commitment, why the Black Sea wheat story could be a bigger deal moving forward, and where cattle stand after a brutal July. Corn and grain markets sat quiet on Wednesday, but the real action was happening in the outside markets. Tommy Grisafi of Nesvick Trading and AgBull Media joins Market Talk to break down a massive stock market rally, gold's $150 surge, crude oil's sharp two-day slide, and what it all means for farmers watching their 401(k)s and their basis alike.

Monday, July 20th, 2026- Mike Minor, Eric Snodgrass and John Heinberg
Crops are looking solid across much of the Midwest, despite heat stress and wildfire smoke in the Great Lakes area. Soybeans rallied again on more Chinese demand business while corn and wheat were mixed and cattle ended their long losing streak with higher futures on Monday. Mike Minor with Professional Ag Marketing joins us to discuss on one of today's interviews. We also hear from John Heinberg with Total Farm Marketing who joins us for analysis and perspective. There are also numerous weather factors being watched right now across the U.S. including wildfire smoke impacts in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes, extreme heat continuing across some areas, severe weather potential and even activity in the Gulf. Eric Snodgrass with Nutrien Ag Solutions joins us to discuss on our Weekly Weather Update. Find more at https://www.agweather.com.
